i'm still not sure if fear is a rival or close relative of truth
bandito - twenty one pilots
What everybody first notices about harry is that he's tall. at 6'3", he's significantly taller than a lot of his peers. With his thin, narrow build, he jokingly describes himself as more like a rake than anything else. Lately, he's built up a little bit of muscle on his frame, but he's still on the narrow, thin side. Next, it's the handsome face and pensive smile. A strong jaw line and cheekbones give him good bone structure that the rest of his features live up to. Almond shaped, partially hooded blue eyes brighten up his face. Any imperfections one would pick out only seems to add to his good looks. His nose is a little crooked from where it was broken as a kid. His bottom lip is a little fuller than his top, a slight scar on one side of them. They're evidence of a life actually lived. He used to straighten his dark brown hair, but now he lets the curls roam free, often just running his hands through it to keep it somewhat tidy. His bright, intelligent eyes are framed on occasion by horn-rimmed glasses, but generally he prefers to go without. He tends to dress well, liking button down shirts and jeans and choosing to layer up with various biker and bomber jackets. He has no piercings but has a small tattoo of an owl on his forearm, as well as a scatter of stars on his collarbone.
He's growing as a person as a result of his godmother's influence. He's getting better at expressing what he actually thinks, and has even joined the college debating team. He's slowly learning how to live for himself and not for other people, and is starting to experiment with his self-expression. His clothes are already more younger and more comfortable, but that's only the start. He mightn't be exactly where he wants to be, but he's getting there, day by day, and that makes him so unspeakably happy. He has bad days, days where his skin feels all wrong and he just wants to be someone else, but he also has good days and normal days. He's getting there, which is all he wants. He wants to become someone he barely recognises, who can't be identified as his parents' son, but also somebody his godmother would be proud of. She's the only family he has left, and he would go to the ends of the earth for her if she asked.

Harry's early years were okay. His parents were strict, but not abnormally so. It was only when he was five that things started to change. It was gradual. Increased stress made them both irritable. They saw their young child as an additional source of stress and started taking it all out on him. His life was defined by his parents, and he only did what he told them, what suited them. It became more than just his schedule, they controlled every aspect of his life- his friends, his hobbies, everything. Then, as he grew older, they became manipulative.
They saw every little thing they did for him as a favour. He had to do everything they asked, and if they did anything nice for him, he knew that it meant something big was coming. He was forced to clean the house top to bottom in response to him just getting a birthday present. He had to be exactly who they wanted, and while everyone around him was developing and finding themselves, it seemed as though he was stuck being the kid his parents wanted him to be.
It was only when his godmother, Maria dropped around for a surprise visit and saw his mother screaming at him for staying late at school that anyone even realised anything was wrong. Maria was furious and sat down with Harry, asking him about what went on. When he told her, she took him home with her that evening, and she called social services first thing the following morning. Due to his age and the fact that there had been no physical abuse, it was difficult for the case to be decided. Harry was still afraid of his own shadow, afraid to do anything wrong. It was this fear that ultimately decided it, when he admitted that he was afraid to say too much in case they decided that he had to go back to them. Maria was given full custody of him and was declared his legal guardian.
She took him to a psychologist with the hope of being able to help him with these fears. But because he'd been raised like that, they were literally sewn into his system, into his behaviours. He's still working on it now, slowly but surely. But at the age of seventeen, he had no clue who he really was. He always dressed older than he was, always dressed conservatively, never tried anything new. Maria loved eighties music, and it didn't take long for Harry to also fall in love. He loved the drama, the theatre, the glamour of the decade. He loved how androgynous everyone and everything was, and began finding himself though this. He was making progress until the fear and changes of university made him revert to his old self. He's starting to get adventurous again, but still sticks to the safety of his button downs.
