Description

Name: Lyr Gilliot.

Age: 23.

Gender: Male.

Appearance:

Visual Reference ((The picture I found was close, but not exactly it. I'm not that great of an artist, but if you could have this one into consideration it'd be cool since it's closer to how I imagined him))

Personality

Lyr is an odd person, to say the least. He is overall a very optimistic and merry individual, but contrary to what his appearance would suggest, he is also an extremely relaxed and random person. His general demeanor tends to suggest he woke up only a few minutes ago, as he will be slow in his movements and take a while to perform simple tasks or be able to concentrate on something else. This is due to him usually being inside his own little world, thinking about completely random things and forgetting about most of his surroundings; when something does interest him, he will pay attention, but since he tends to get bored of things quickly, he can switch to his distracted self after a while. He isn't prone to conflict and, unless it is about an arena match, he will need a reason to fight or argue with others. Even if he has a discussion with someone, he won't usually stand firm on his view and will soon agree with the opposing party just for the sake of ending the argument; that said, he is still headstrong and hard to truly be convinced about practically anything.

He has a very friendly and sincere character and will always try to get along with anyone upon meeting them and, while he doesn’t exactly become friends with all he crosses paths with, he has yet to meet anyone he hates or even dislikes. This is mainly because he tries to understand others' situations before making a judgement on them and assumes there is always a reason for why people do things. He looks at the bright side of things most of the time and no matter the situation, he believes that there is a solution to every problem in life; however, unless something means a lot to him, he isn’t normally willing to take much action against things he doesn’t like and will make peace with most situations even if they aren’t his ideal view. This, however, doesn't mean that he is the kind of person who let's life slip away entirely, he just needs to be reminded of what he needs to do from time to time and can find himself in need of motivation in some cases. Despite it all, he has a strong sense of responsibility and when he decides to do something for someone, he will make sure he can keep his word.

Once he has set his mind into fighting, however, Lyr can demonstrate a side of himself unexpected by people who knew him only outside the battlefield. Unlike usually, his concentration will be set entirely on what he is doing, trying to catch all of his opponent's movements and calculate his own while closing his mind off from any other kind of thought. He will become brutal and completely merciless, even cruel in some occasions if he thinks the situation requires it. He will show a vigor and vitality unbecoming of him and his overall demeanor will grow much colder. Furthermore, he will clearly differentiate between his life inside and outside the arena and ignore any previous relationship with an opponent in a fight. He is set on becoming the next Phoenixian Hunter and, if necessary to do so, the #1 globe ranker, and he is ready to show this side of him to anyone he thinks would stand in his way.

Discipline/Specialization:
Lyr is a Bladesman with a specialization in spears and lances, making him a Lancer. There is not a specific type of either he uses and he can implement new ones to his own style without much effort, although some are more effective than others; he does, however, have a favorite one. He has shown to be able to perform and prefers complicated and unpredictable maneuvers taking advantage of his physical strength, even using two spears simultaneously in one instance, but he is no acrobat. Finally, while he is very competent in the throw of one-handed lances too, his accuracy is nowhere near that of an Archer nor is he able to take a shot from a distance as large as they can.

Equipment

Choice of weapons:
Lances & Spears- Lyr's specialty lies on both lances and spears, preferring to use them on close combat. He is in possession of a wide variety of them and, while no one knows exactly how many he has, he tends to always carry around at least two with him. Most of the weapons he uses tend to be completely made of metal, something he can afford to do without compromising his speed too much given his great physical strength; this is done in order to fend off sharp weapons such as swords without risking his own weapon to get cut in half.

History

Rank: 8.

History/bio:
Lyr was born as the only child of a regular and stable family. Even though they lived in a small village in the surroundings of Crix, Lyr still had a pretty normal childhood and wasn't denied anything other children had. He showed an interest in fighting at a very young age and would often practice using wood sticks and other things he collected from the forest with other children until he was enlisted in a general training center. There, he didn't receive any kind of specific preparation for battle and was instead taught how to defend himself in general and use basic weapons and tools in a vague manner, along with knowledge on anatomy and other useful pieces of information for battle. He still attended school, but over time, he began to lean his lifestyle towards fighting rather than continuing his academic studies.

At the age of twelve, Lyr had shown to have a lot of talent in the fighting center he had been training in, ranking amongst the best of his classmates. In light of his great potential, the mentors at the facility recommended him for a training camp in Crix, where he would receive specialized training for the discipline of his choosing and would be able to let himself grow as a fighter. Although his parents were a bit reluctant at first, as they found the arena matches dangerous, they eventually allowed him to have a try at it so long as he kept up with his school studies. And hence, Lyr was sent to the training camp and received training in the discipline of Bladesmanship, learning to use a variety of weapons in a very basic manner. After only a year or two, Lyr stood out as he was able to quickly find the weapon he was most comfortable with: the lance. This allowed him to completely concentrate on it and he soon ranked amongst the best Hunters of his group, since most were still stuck on trying out a wide variety of weapons with no specialization. He managed to keep himself as such for a long time and even by the time he left in order to finally take part in the low ranks of the arena, he was still one of the best close-range fighters in the camp. To make the progress smoother, he formed a group with other three partners from the camp and, together, began their journey in the arena.

Their start was mostly a positive one; while they did lose matches, by the time the group advanced to Rank 5, their number of victories was bigger than their losses. However, Lyr had proved to be a warrior more effective in theory rather than in practice, and his performance ever since they had left the training camp had been poor, many times being the cause for their losses. Once they moved on to a greater level, Lyr didn't get any better; on the contrary, he found himself completely unable to keep up with the new ranks and, even though his techniques and ability when practicing were definitely of a great level, they failed him completely in the arena when he actually needed them. His teammates were not able to make up for his mistakes and their own and the team met mostly failure. Eventually, after having won only two out of sixteen matches, the group had a meeting and concluded that Lyr had to be kicked out in order for them to advance and, despite his attempts to improve and keep himself in the team, it was done permanently. He kept trying to rank up on his own, but after having only one victory and a horrible losing streak, he broke into a depression and decided to quit the arena for a while. During that time, he began to give some serious consideration to forgetting about his initial objective of ranking up to a point where he could earn a living and just move on with his studies, as he clearly had gotten himself involved in something too big for him. Before he made any final decision though, he received a letter that would change his plans dramatically; the message was from a middle-aged man responding to the name Levon who claimed to be a retired Grandmaster interested in helping him and a few others improve in their fighting abilities, so long as he was willing to spend an entire year in intense training. Levon was a bizarre and energetic man and, as Lyr would discover later on, he was not a Grandmaster at all, having attained only Rank 5 when he was an active arena competitor; nonetheless, he definitely had some serious teaching skills and knowledge on the philosophy of a warrior. Concluding that Levon's training could be beneficial even though he couldn't teach him any new techniques, Lyr decided to join him and his group of potential fighters. The training proved to be extremely severe; no one knows exactly what kind of spartan lifestyle they had all taken on, but eventually the only one who didn't quit was Lyr.

After completing exactly a year of training since the day he left, Lyr came back from his journey with Levon changed into a different person. Although he hadn't learned any new techniques and his battle potential hadn't increased too much, he had a completely different mentality for fighting, a clear objective and a body that allowed him to perform feats completely out of his league before. This is when he also acquired his changed persona for when he was in a battle and his two scars. With new-found confidence, he parted ways with his mentor and decided to once again take part in the arena matches, meeting with much more success than before. He accomplished a sudden winning streak and managed to defeat not only his first opponent in all that time, but also the next eight adversaries he faced in a row, without losing even once. He quickly became one of the favorites and his winning streak was only stopped in his tenth match, which resulted in a draw against another participant who was also under the spotlight. Figuring it was a good moment to prepare himself for when he got himself into a higher league, Lyr decided to start looking for others to share his path with, keeping his new objective still clear in his head.

"Vyricia! Please, give your applause!" came the voice of a man upon a stage. He used some form of spell to amplify his voice over the massive crowd. "Today, we give welcome to the rise of our newest Phoenixians!"

The crowd consisted of every citizen of Crix, and all the visitors. They all were forced to be present. Including Star, more commonly known as "Blue Mist". She wasn't paying much attention to the ceremony, mostly because she didn't care for politics. She knew another Phoenixian was going to take the reins, and another era of bad choices and dramatic fighting would ensue. She knew many of the fighters that were present at the ceremony. Not personally, of course, but she'd heard their names. There was 'Wiseman', and his partner, Nai-lee. There was the leader of the Damel clan, Victor. There was also, further back in the crowd, Lyr Gilliot. This was just to name a few of the faces, though.

A round of forced applause came through the crowd. Most people didn't care about who their Phoenixians were. Others were jealous. A small percentage actually cared. The group that cared most were the Draconians, since they were the advisers for the Phoenixians. Three people emerged from behind a velvet curtain upon the stage. All the onlookers forced more applause.

"Akira, our Phoenixian Bladesman!" The announcer gestured to a tall, muscular man. He was wearing a full body cloak, completely black from head to ankle. His hood was down, though, so all could see his face. From his shaggy, medium length black hair to his dark crimson eyes, and from his pearly white teeth to his flawless complexion, he was truly handsome. He had been a Draconian for less than a year before he challenged the Phonixian and indeed won. That sort of thing was unheard of. Though, one look at his armaments would speak to his ability. Even now, he had a katana at his left hip, a kusarigama on the right, and a bow slung over his shoulder. Equipped for all ranges, it seemed.

Then came the next man to the front after the applause ended. "Our Phoenixian Sapper, Rylar!" This man was as thin as a twig, and wore clothes that suited that. Looking at him, one would guess that he never ate. Pale skin, pronounced bones, and dull white hair. He used his bow, and an extensive knowledge of traps to defeat his foes. He often worked with Akira to lure opponents to their doom. When the applause died, the final Phoenixian came forward.

"Our Phoenixian Enchantress, Misu!" This girl wore all green robes, which was par for an Enchantress. Star looked down at her own robes, which were all black, with a blue star over her heart. They were sewn by her mother, and she would never wear any other outfit to her battles. Looking back to Misu, Star noticed that the female had a scar across her neck, one that wasn't there before the fight. Star laughed a little to herself. This likely meant that during the epic 3v3 battle, Misu had died, and had to be revived after the battle. Misu was far from the best Enchantress, but she was carried up the ranks by Akira and Rylar, who were geniuses in their fields. Misu simply got by because of her looks. She was admittedly very beautiful.

The ceremony continued. Each of the Phoenixians were given their crowns. They were showered with gifts. All the things customary to the Phoenixian title. And everyone had to watch. Star sighed. She'd seen this many times before, but it never got any more interesting. One of Star's friends, Rin, was there with her. "I think they should have let Misu stay dead, eh Star?"

Star giggled. "Mm. She's not really what I would call an idol." she said. She looked over at her Huntress friend, Rin, and shot her a smile. The two of them continued to affably chat while the ceremony continued, and eventually concluded. Akira, Rylar, and Misu were now the official Phoenixians of Vyricia. Wonderful.

As Star walked away from the gathering, she noticed the dead body of the previous three Phoenixians being carried unceremoniously out of the Vyrician arena. She couldn't distinguish one pile of hacked up flesh from another, which only spoke to the brutality of the current leaders. They all may be number one in their disciplines, but in Star's mind, they would score low on the ranking of the best Phoenixians.

The voice of the announcer resounded so loudly around the masses that every single person composing the crowd was forced to listen to him whether they wanted to or not. Even if one were to cover his ears (and some actually tried), they would still hear some partially muted and impossible to understand sound perfectly capable of causing a headache to the most patient of spectators. If Lyr had to choose a single word to describe what he thought of the announcer, it would have to be 'aggravating'; if he could use more, however, it would be 'so annoying it is physically painful'. Then again, he was one to react badly to anything loud.

Lyr looked like he had forgotten about the ceremony and had appeared at the last possible moment, as he had ended up quite far at the back of the crowd and his low head suggested he had woken up just a few minutes ago. Despite this, however, Lyr easily drew attention to himself, as, despite the huge crowd and people pushing each other to have some space, he had a radius of 1m of free space all to himself. It could be his partially covered and menacing-looking eyes, or the huge scars on his face and neck, or maybe the two lances with their tips wrapped in cloth hanging diagonally on his back, but for some reason people tended to keep some distance from him. It wasn't like there weren't scarier-looking fighters out there, but that didn't change the fact that he indeed looked more like a serial killer rather than a warrior to many. However, him being as distracted as he was, had yet to notice both the image he was giving away and the big space he always seemed to have around him. This was probably the reason why finding partners to form a team for the arena was giving him such a hard time.

While initially tired and clearly uninterested in the ceremony, the voice had the desired effect on Lyr and his eyes were drawn towards the stage where the figures of the three new Phoenixians had appeared while he wasn't looking. The announcer proceeded to present them to the crowd one by one, starting with Akira, the Hunter. Being a Bladesman himself, it was only natural that Akira was the one Lyr showed most attention for; while he saw him with envy and resentment, he couldn't help but also feel respect and even admiration for him. It wasn't just because of his impressive history of being a Draconian for less than a year, but also for his mastery of the weapons; just looking at his equipment at that moment, one could tell he was one of the most (if not THE most) complete Hunters around, and he probably could use more weapons than those. Rylar, the Sapper, was a more mysterious individual; other than his strategy in conjunction with Akira not many knew much about him. What was he like? Where did he come from? Lyr was one of the many people who couldn't answer those questions.

As for Misu, the Enchantress, word had it that she didn't really deserve the spot she was being given amongst the best, but Lyr couldn't really declare such a thing himself. It was hard for him to tell the skill level of an Enchanter unless the difference in rank was really big; nonetheless, he trusted the judgement of others who did know about the subject and there seemed to be little to no objection to this claim to begin with. There had to be a reason why two geniuses would put up with her and even help her become a Phoenixian though, and that was precisely why many found her almost as mysterious as Rylar.

"Borin' like always, ey?" an aggressive female voice sounded beside Lyr, waking him up from his inner thoughts.

"...eh?" it took Lyr a few seconds to react to the sudden interaction and realized he was being talked to. It was a woman with a wild appearance who had entered the circle of free space caused by the man. It wasn't surprising that she wasn't intimidated by him; if he looked like a serial killer to many, then she would look like a psychotic one. He studied her for a few seconds; he didn't remember seeing her anywhere in the middle-ranking arenas, which meant she was most likely either a low or elite-ranking combatant. As the possibility of recruiting her for a team faded in Lyr's head, so did his interest in her. "Yeah well, there's no way around it, is there?" he responded while putting on a weak smile which prompted a quick and concise laugh from her. "They are going to stay for a while, aren't they?"

"Aye, that, they will..." the woman nodded as she agreed with Lyr, a wide and somehow savage smile planted on her face. "They'll have it real smooth too. Nobody'll be challengin' 'em in a long while after what they did to the previous #1s. Strategy of fear, know what I mean?"

A weak grunt emerged from Lyr's mouth in a sign of acknowledgement. He had seen the remains of the previous Phoenixians and he still didn't know exactly how they could have been human at some point. Hell, even he was terrified at the thought of facing any of them, so even if he had the rank and status to be allowed to challenge them, he definitely wouldn't, at least not until he forgot the image of their last opponents' remains. They probably had put on that brutal show on purpose exactly to achieve that: making sure nobody will even think of challenging them. After all, if they were just strong and had won a match, they wouldn't last very long as the best arena fighters. He sighed discouragingly at the thought of how that would apply to politics; he didn't like thinking about those things, but it didn't change the fact that it affected all of them.

"Well!" once the ceremony had ended and the public was freed from it, Lyr stretched his body lazily and turned to the woman. "Might as well get to work while we can; I got a long way before I can get my word in any of this." That said, he bid farewell with a gesture and made his way out of the crowd

"Aight, g'luck, pal. Hope to see ya 'round soon", the woman responded with a gesture of her own and headed the opposite direction.

Lyr's priority at the moment was forming a team; even if he still had to rank up to rank 9 and earn a nomination before he could enter the elite, it would be much easier to form a team now. After all, most high-ranking competitors most likely already had a solid team formed from when they were lower-ranking, and it would be much harder to join one of these than forming one while still in the middle tier. He had had no luck lately, which was precisely why he needed to spend more time trying to find the appropriate people. He was beginning to think that going around with a sign advertising his team could be a better idea than he had initially thought.
