MSS

The Mars Security Service is a public body under the command of the Martian Peoples Assembly. It investigates and prevents crime happening in and around Mars. The MPA has good relations with most people and as such should an MSS investigation take them off world they are normally well assisted.

CTU

The Counter Terrorist Unit of the MSS, in broad terms it is made up of three groups.

Agents.

They work in the field and are in many ways the power house of the agency. Their role is to gather intelligence on possible terrorist actions. This role can take many forms, undercover work, surveillance or just good old detective skills.

Operatives.

If the agents are the ones deciding which nails get hit the operatives are the ones holding the hammer. They are well a well trained tactical unit designed to combat asymmetric warfare. They tend to be Augmented more heavily than agents and their augments are more combat orientated.

Support Staff.

Everyone from the Janitor to the pilots, they provide support to the field agents. It could be a hacker providing intelligence, a director issuing orders or a any number of roles.

Pirates

The M-Gates have revolutionised how people travel however they make shifting ethically questionable items a lot harder. That’s why the best way to ship illegal substances is the long way it might take the guts of a year but it’s far safe than trying an M-gate when detection is far more likely. Popular cargos include weapons, augments, Illegal immigrants, Hacked Synths and so forth.

PSC’s

Private Security Companies are often employed by large Corporations as part their internal security force. Corporations get up to a lot of things they really shouldn’t and they use these guys to do. Common roles include body guarding, industrial espionage, industrial sabotage and site security of course the more unscrupulous (i.e. successful) companies will over a whole range of far darker services just so long as it’s kept “off the books”.

Members of such outfits are often ex soldiers from one of the countless wars on earth, ex operatives from the MSS of special designed
Synths.

Hackers

It’s not Cyberpunk without hackers. Their core belief is information needs to be free, this mantra is pretty much the only shared trait. Some will take it to mean governmental corruption should be exposed while others believe it means they should spend all their time tracking down celebrity sex tapes or pirating software.
In either case hackers can be famous beyond their culture and many usernames are well known in the real world.

AILF

The Artificial Intelligence Liberation front is a group that sees AI’s as exploited by humans and seeks to change this injustice. Its staged attacks on both Mars and earth often they include hostage taking, bombings and assassination. Its members are both human, AI and Synth. More info to follow.
