Robert Mann needed a new TV show. He needed to, or else all of the money he had collected would be for nothing. He was 32, had spent his whole life saving money, and desperate for fame. He wasn't an actor; he was a writer, but he needed a plot before he could even dream of calling people for investments, before calling a studio, before even hiring a director. The idea of XOXO came to him as he watched Gossip Girl. Of course, he thought. Of course! What did people like to see? The Hills, Gossip Girl, and Hannah Montana. They loved seeing people who could live the lives they never could, the lives they could only dream of living. So he came up with the idea of XOXO, but... well, it needed something. It needed a little bit of pizzazz, and he refused to even attempt to go into the market without a legendary idea. Without something to make it stand out. And he played with his theory of TV shows and extended it until the idea of a reality show came to him. A behind-the-scenes reality TV show! The cast wouldn't even know it!
But if they were boring? No, they needed something. Most reality TV shows were scripted, and his... well, he didn't want his cast knowing about it. He wanted it to be known as the real reality TV show... but an actual reality TV show wouldn't sell. It would be full of work and work and work. Robert knew most actors didn't exactly become best friends on set; they were just co-workers. Which meant actual workers must do the dirty work. It was perfect! In a few months, everything was ready, and the casting began. Eight talented, well-known actors were chosen, and everything was ready.
The characters would all be part of the same social group, with the most drama ever. All rich, all beautiful, and all looking for a good time, and nothing else. They would attend Malibu High, a high school for the rich... but these eight teenagers would stand out. Yes, perfect. Some would be smart, others dumb... all of them good looking, all of them with their own flaws, likable traits.. they would be human. They would go through heartbreak and drugs and sex. It would all work out. Perfect!
Reality show cameraman: The camera is a tiny thing, one that Robert Mann paid millions to get ahold of. It's not even on the market yet, the beautiful thing. It's a portable video camera, a tiny little button thing that attaches to everything, used by the CIA and FBI, and now, Robert Mann.
Rumor-maker: Writes rumors, gets them approved by Robert Mann, and then hands them to the spreaders to do their work.
Rumor-spreader: The ones who do the dirty work. They must be creative enough to think of new ways to spread rumors, to get them going and fan the flames.
Drama-maker: Does random things that are certain to cause a scene. Such as dropping a love note in a woman's dressing room for her to find, etc. Works independently of the rumor-maker, but often collaborates with them to come up with different ideas.
Confident/tattle tale: Works to become a close friend of actors/actresses, and spills secrets to others. Of course, the drama-maker or rumor-spreader goes and makes the secret seem as if it wasn't the confidant's fault. However, the secrets the confidant tells are often kept under wraps for later, always in the 'in-progress' mode until the perfect opportunity comes up. Hardest job to keep up, because retaining trust while giving secrets away for the purpose of publicizing them is extremely hard.
Eavesdropper: Listens to every conversation carefully, even carries around a recorder with them, to tell to the rumor-maker, and Robert Mann.
