October 2103
Just over a year has passed since the secrets behind the Aurora Borealis were released from their prison. The world has been wasting away at an alarming rate, slow to some, but substantial nonetheless. The Earth rotting away has become world-wide knowledge. People are in a panic, riots have spread, and in the countries that rely on a strict daily food supply, they are starving, as their crops have begun dying away. Rural areas have been hit the worst. Layers have been scraped from the forests, the ocean's edge has receded from shore, and, in many places, animals who have lost their homes in the wild have begun seeking solace in towns populated by humans. However, in busier urban places with less plant-life, such as cities who are far from the shore, life has, for the most part, continued as it normally has. The Government assures us the plague spreading over the planet will be dealt with in due time.
A General Overview
In this modern society, we have been blessed with technological advancements, from medical examinations to the apps on your smart phone. Wars are raging as they always have despite the growing demise of our planet. Most of the Wonders of the world have fallen from one reason or another, with only a scattered few left standing. Even before the darkness spread across the land, tensions between all nations have been nearing the red. In the streets, people are easy to fight one another. More of the forests and oceans have been excavated and explored, revealing secrets never known to us before. Things are beautiful, but things are bad.
Eclipse City
Location: Northern America
This is where our characters reside. It's one of the busiest cities in the world, far off from any signs of natural nature and nowhere near any of the oceans. While there have been a few minor incidents of small-time anarchists try to stir up riots, none have caught fire and those who try are immediately apprehended. With that said, the city is riddled with both cops and well-known gang activity. It's not wise to be out after hours on your own (that is, unless you're in between one of the many parties happening downtown). There is no definitive poor side or rich side, with most homes and business crammed messily together. It seems to snow more often than it shines. The Mayor of this city has never been seen. People wonder if he exists at all.
Casper High
The most popular public school of the area, consisting of a mix of hoodlums and those who barely scrape under the line of being accepted by private school. There was a school shooting less than a year prior. Ironic to the name, there is a running rumor between the students and most of the staff that it's now haunted by the lives lost in the shooting. Strange events have occurred since then, but could it really be by ghosts?
Crescent High
The most popular private school of the area, consisting of only the best of the best. Your child would have to be a borderline prodigy to have been allowed into this school. It's live-in. People from all over the country send their children to go there. It's assumed that it's home to one of the more dangerous gangs of the youthful crowd.
Morning Star Mall
Anything and everything can be found right here in this mall. It's the most happening spot in the entire city, crammed with people of all ages. It doubles as the Civic Center and often hosts popular events that people from miles around come to see. Around the holidays, it hosts its annual city-wide scavenger hunt. The prizes are incredible, expensive things desired by people both young and old. People can compete individually or in teams. The first place prize is never revealed to anyone but those who receive it.
