1973: The first known powered individual becomes known to the public; Mr Leonel Foster, capable of telekinesis. Public opinion is varied, some believing him a miracle, others a scientific wonder to be unraveled. As more powered come forward, politicians debate how to handle the growing population, though no resolution can be decided on.

1977: Protests against and for the Gifted sweep the country, pushing politicians to come to a conclusion. The Bill of Powered Individuals is passed, ensuring that all powered are given equal rights. A register is set up to ensure that dangerous gifted may be identified. The practicality of the register is questioned, many feeling that more should be done to police the powered.

1978-1983: Tensions continue to rise within the country. Powered individuals feel increasingly restricted and demand more freedom. Meanwhile non-powered citizens demand more surveillance of their powered neighbours.

1984: While debate still rages, some communities start programs for the Gifted, enabling many individuals to socialise with like-minded individuals and better learn to control their powers. Some of the public fears that these programs are breeding grounds for Power Supremacists, though these fears are largely unsupported.

1989: George March, a powered individual and isolated extremist, travels to New York. On the 3rd of August, March attempts to destroy central New York in an explosive attack powered by his unique gift. An unknown group of Gifted and non-Gifted individuals stop Mr March’s attack, but not before a block of apartments have been flattened in the attack.

1989-1990: In the wake of the New York attack, Gifted programs are halted indefinitely and the register is widened to include all known Gifted, rather than just those above a certain level. Public opinion is again divided, with those against the Gifted leading protests across the country. Many point to March as a clear example of the Gifted’s danger, while others argue that those who stopped March were gifted too.

1991-1993: Protests continue to sweep the country, both for and against the gifted, however public opinion is being pushed drastically against the gifted due to March’s attack and an underground group attempting to emulate him.

1994: Most gifted prefer to live in secrecy rather than face the stigma of being powered. Stricter laws are implemented in policing those with gifts.

1995-2015: Slowly, as the Gifted ‘threat’ appears to ease, laws are relaxed. The Gifted Register is still in use, however many Gifted attempt to remain hidden within the population rather than declaring themselves. Prejudice and fear still exists against powered individuals, and many attacks on Gifted are recorded over the decade, yet as time moves on it becomes easier to forget the turbulent past.

2016: Modern day New York, the events of the past still haunt the people of New York, a monument to those lives lost stands in the middle of the blast zone, the centre having become Memorial Park. The Gifted still live blended in and hiding, though public opinion has eased slightly in that past two decades. In recent months some attacks on Gifted individuals have become known to the public, however details of the attacks and whether they are connected or not are not fully known.
