Tap tap tap.
There was no reason to be nervous. Well, maybe there was. He didn't have that many experiences where his confidence failed him, but now he was faced with one of those rare moments when he would rather disappear for a while than be in this position. He was married. Just thinking about it made his head swim. Eventually, he knew it would happen, but with so little notice the whirlwind of events took him by surprise. He married the son of the enemy, their "past" enemy, the union was supposed to be a sign that all was forgiven. Yeah right. Kai wasn't an idiot, he knew his father had some ulterior motive. In due time, he was sure he would find out what it was. For now, he was left in the most uncomfortable position, wandering around the halls to go anywhere except for his own room where he knew his new bride would be waiting.
His distress was almost palpable. Every servant that passed by wore the same exact expression, one of unease. He could take comfort in knowing that he wasn't the only one stressed over the sudden events. Of course he thought of his bride too. He'd been forced to leave his own home and come live with a bunch of strangers, who at one time were bent on wiping his family out. Yeah, that was a nice touch. The prince knew he couldn't be happy either, at the very least, Kai didn't have to pick up and move anywhere. He wanted to try and comfort Mare, but he didn't really know how when he himself was experiencing such anxiety over the matter. He wasn't even sure he wanted to see his face right now. Kai was never a shy child, he was always fearless in his social life and never really cared how others perceived him.
Only now was he feeling a little awkward and mindlessly walking around in his black tuxedo trying to avoid the inevitable. He kept tugging at the bowtie around his neck, it felt like he was being strangled and he was feeling warmer than usual. He may have specialized in fire, as noted by his flamming head of silky red hair. As was tradition, it was incredibly long, falling down his back in a dramatic display. Somehow he was able to force some of it into a bun, strands still fell in his eyes, and the bulk of it remained cascading down his back. The hall he was currently strolling down consisted of nothing but mirrors, his kind was a very proud race. In the glass he could see the the black ink that permanently marked his skin, it stood out against the white collor of his shirt, stopping right under his jaw line. Once he took his father's place as king, an addition would be added to the side of his face. Now that he was married, that day would be coming sooner than he expected.
Kai stopped and turned on his heels at the end of the hall, he couldn't delay any longer. It wasn't fair to leave his new bride alone for so long. He sighed and started walking back to his room. All this time he hadn't thought of one thing to say that would possibly make the situation any better. So, to get it over with, he was just going to throw himself into the awkward meeting and hope it would somehow work out. He stood outside of the door, his golden eyes locked on the knob. 'It's your room idiot, go inside.' The mental push was enough to make his open the door and cross the threshold. He closed the door behind himself and leaned against it, looking towards Mare. "Uh," his mind blanked when he looked at the male sitting on his bed looking as unenthusiastic as he felt, "I'm sorry." He blurted out quickly. "You um, if you're uncomfortable I could find something else for you to wear."
In the back of his mind he could hear his father's constant reminder of Kai needing to have kids as soon as possible. He would eventually, but he didn't want to start the process now. The whole atmosphere was just wrong and he was feeling so nervous. His eyes looked all around the room, anywhere but back at Mare, looking at him sitting there in a beautiful dress didn't calm his nerves in the least.
