(sorry for lame title XP)

"I now dub thee husband and...wife. May your bond be blessed by sky and water."

Everything was happening too fast. Just last month, two kingdoms were fighting, and now he was married to the son of their rival. He hadn't even met the man before he had to say his vow. It was confusing and daunting and just plain terrifying how easily his parents had thrown him to the other kingdom for the treaty. Sure he was the only heir that wasn't currently bonded and of age, but they hadn't even given him a say or anything. The process was rushed just so the treaty could be formed without any problems or second thoughts. Now he was stuck in a kingdom he knew nothing about. In the terms of the treaty, he had been forced to leave his watery home and live in his husband's kingdom and rule his own from afar. Oh and he had to eventually have kids. The kids were supposedly 'rules of both kingdoms'.

Mare stood in front of his husband's gates and watched his family turn away from him. Only his mother and eldest brother looked back at him one last time before the dove beneath the waves. His heart ached. He wanted to reach out for them to stay, to take him with them. He almost threw himself into the water to follow, but he couldn't. He was duty bound. He had honor. Mare would not disgrace his family and start the war all over again because he couldn't do this. Mare squeezed the flowers he had been given. He'd never seen flowers like these before and they weren't very comforting to him, even with their vibrant reds and whites and sweet scents. He wanted the salty smell of the water, a shell or a piece of coral. By the water's depths, he'd even go with seaweed instead of these stupid flowers.

Mare hid his shivering by squeezing the bouquet against his chest. He didn't want to show his new 'family' that he was scared. That was weakness. He was surprised they let him stay out here watching the sunset till the sun had disappeared. When they couldn't stall anymore, he was lead into the castle and to his new shared room with his husband. He had been informed that his husband would enter the room shortly. They wanted him to get comfortable in the room first. Ha, what a joke. Comfortable in a room he was supposed to give himself up in a few hours? He wasn't going to relax knowing what was coming.

Once the door was closed behind him, Mare threw the flowers on the counter and hugged himself, his pale fingers clutching at his sides. As was customary for his people, he wore the seashell necklace and earrings. The white dress he had been forced to wear was long with a beautiful lacy embroidery that revealed most of his back and arms. He still sported the veil that covered his face from view. His eyes were a maelstrom of blue and swirling gray. His hair was cut short at the base of his neck in the back but his bangs reached down to his chin in a mix of colors. Most of his hair was as black as the depths of the ocean, but there were strands stained with a rather light blue. His hair tips ended in the same blue.

Mare pulled the veil off his face and placed it with the flowers. He looked down at the dress and sighed. He didn't have cloths. He had no need of cloths in the ocean. What was he supposed to do with this dress? Should he take it off? Wear it until his husband took it off for him? What else was he supposed to wear here? He had noticed that everyone on this dry land wore clothing. He sighed and ran his hand through his silky hair and sat down on the bed.

All he could do now was wait.

Tap tap tap.

There was no reason to be nervous. Well, maybe there was. He didn't have that many experiences where his confidence failed him, but now he was faced with one of those rare moments when he would rather disappear for a while than be in this position. He was married. Just thinking about it made his head swim. Eventually, he knew it would happen, but with so little notice the whirlwind of events took him by surprise. He married the son of the enemy, their "past" enemy, the union was supposed to be a sign that all was forgiven. Yeah right. Kai wasn't an idiot, he knew his father had some ulterior motive. In due time, he was sure he would find out what it was. For now, he was left in the most uncomfortable position, wandering around the halls to go anywhere except for his own room where he knew his new bride would be waiting.

His distress was almost palpable. Every servant that passed by wore the same exact expression, one of unease. He could take comfort in knowing that he wasn't the only one stressed over the sudden events. Of course he thought of his bride too. He'd been forced to leave his own home and come live with a bunch of strangers, who at one time were bent on wiping his family out. Yeah, that was a nice touch. The prince knew he couldn't be happy either, at the very least, Kai didn't have to pick up and move anywhere. He wanted to try and comfort Mare, but he didn't really know how when he himself was experiencing such anxiety over the matter. He wasn't even sure he wanted to see his face right now. Kai was never a shy child, he was always fearless in his social life and never really cared how others perceived him.

Only now was he feeling a little awkward and mindlessly walking around in his black tuxedo trying to avoid the inevitable. He kept tugging at the bowtie around his neck, it felt like he was being strangled and he was feeling warmer than usual. He may have specialized in fire, as noted by his flamming head of silky red hair. As was tradition, it was incredibly long, falling down his back in a dramatic display. Somehow he was able to force some of it into a bun, strands still fell in his eyes, and the bulk of it remained cascading down his back. The hall he was currently strolling down consisted of nothing but mirrors, his kind was a very proud race. In the glass he could see the the black ink that permanently marked his skin, it stood out against the white collor of his shirt, stopping right under his jaw line. Once he took his father's place as king, an addition would be added to the side of his face. Now that he was married, that day would be coming sooner than he expected.

Kai stopped and turned on his heels at the end of the hall, he couldn't delay any longer. It wasn't fair to leave his new bride alone for so long. He sighed and started walking back to his room. All this time he hadn't thought of one thing to say that would possibly make the situation any better. So, to get it over with, he was just going to throw himself into the awkward meeting and hope it would somehow work out. He stood outside of the door, his golden eyes locked on the knob. 'It's your room idiot, go inside.' The mental push was enough to make his open the door and cross the threshold. He closed the door behind himself and leaned against it, looking towards Mare. "Uh," his mind blanked when he looked at the male sitting on his bed looking as unenthusiastic as he felt, "I'm sorry." He blurted out quickly. "You um, if you're uncomfortable I could find something else for you to wear."

In the back of his mind he could hear his father's constant reminder of Kai needing to have kids as soon as possible. He would eventually, but he didn't want to start the process now. The whole atmosphere was just wrong and he was feeling so nervous. His eyes looked all around the room, anywhere but back at Mare, looking at him sitting there in a beautiful dress didn't calm his nerves in the least.
Finals have arrived, forgive my sporadic activity these next two weeks!
