Dying and dead role plays; how to deal with them?

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Colonel_Masters on Sat Jun 02, 2012 7:17 pm

Yep it's happened again, at least to me. I have been in quite a few roleplays but they all seem to die at some point usually at the opening sequence (what starts the role play)
I just don't know if I can handle that any more, when a story gets cut without it reaching closure I can't function properly. Frankly I am losing moral and I don't know how much longer I will be able to keep on making characters and then just having the role plays die.
It seems that whatever role plays I make are simply too boring, do not appeal to other role players etc so I do not make any.

I really need some advice on how to work with this setup because if the last 3 or so role plays I am on which are still going… some of them barley die like the others I don't think I will be able to continue role playing here.
Basically I can't handle a role play being so active at its start and suddenly failing and it happens to me all the time, not once has a role play not succumbed to that fate in my role playing experience here. I do not blame any one for that i just want to know how others deal with it.

I began making my own. It's working for me too. Then again I'm only along the ride for one game over here and use the RPG Design section for practising study-evasive behaviour :P So I honestly couldn't give you tips specific to this site.

Something I do urge you to keep in mind is realising what people came to do and give them the chances to do this. If I join an game where you tell us we're going to fight giant monsters and you'll make us wait 5 pages of intro before we can fight giant monsters, people are going to leave. So you send people on their first mission right away or have monsters break from their cages during the intro scene. If you make an RP where people join because they want romance and nobody takes initiative, put up some situations. Accidentally place the girl with the unisex name in a boy's dorm, let a dude good at chemistry tutor the absent-minded girl. etc. People often leave in the opening phase because it takes too long before they get to do what they want. So remember that.
Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.
