The house seemed to sweat in anticipation as the eldest Summers's son slunked through the grand staircase that haunted him with every nightmare he had. His bare feet took care focus with each step he took. Chaz was not ready to be found before finding someone. There were no heels clicking, or the breaking of glass, which was a sign that he wouldn't be hurt for this moment. Sweat dripping from his bruised forehead, Chaz slipped one shaking hand against the wall beside him and curling against the picture frame's edge. As he took his hand off to step into the lobby, he heard a high-pitched squeal. That could only mean one thing: the adults of the estate were gone and Ashleigh Thomas had stepped through the door. Ash was the only girl on the street that hadn't slipped her v-card. The caramel-skinned girl slipped off her worn sunflower Toms and streaked for the lanky boy standing barefoot in the large house's lobby. With what little balance he had, Chaz caught Ash in a bear hug. "Little bitch, you didn't call me last night." Ashleigh scolded, tears stinging at her eyes. Chaz knew if he didn't call, the blonde girl in his arms would expect a call from a hospital or, if time went short, a heartbroken Ali.
Ali meant so much to Ashleigh and Chaz. Ashleigh rarely talked to the boy, mostly gave a shoulder to cry on or company during Chaz's breakdowns. Chaz knew his baby brother inside and out. The loyal Ali Summers always found the good in everything. If Chaz had a scar, Ali would say it would impress the ladies. Chaz would never had stayed in this Hell unless for the protection of Ali. He would do anything for Ali, and loved to buy him things. Ash was still close to his heart, but not as much as Ali. Ashleigh snapped her fingers in front of Chaz's face, sending him out of his thoughts. "Yes dear?" He asked, running a hand through his hair. He wasn't focused at all, and it made Ash worried. "Take off your shirt." Chaz stared at her as if she'd asked him to have sex with her. Not only was she a lesbian, it was just weird. He didn't like showing Ashleigh new signs of abuse, but she wouldn't take no for an answer. Chaz lifted his new Beatles shirt over his head and let her examine. His abs shone with new blackening bruises and there was a bandage on his hip. Ashleigh pressed against his wounds tenderly, and went up to his face. A scar on his eyebrow was hidden by an eyebrow piercing, as did a snake bite on his lip. "You can't let him treat you like this forev-"
"Where is my damn beer?" So maybe he was home. That meant he was home alone, and Chaz's "mother" was doing private business. "Go, now, I have to get Ali." Chaz hissed at Ash, pushing her out the door. Chaz streaked up the stairs, unfortunately noticed by his father. "Where are you going?" Chandler Summers asked his oldest son, who turned around unafraid. "Going to get my books for school." Chaz answered quietly, getting his bookbag and sneaking into Ali's room. "Ali, Chandler's home so you need to sneak through the window. I'll meet you at the bus stop." Chaz kissed him on the forehead, and got downstairs as quick as possible. As soon as he had his hand on the doorknob, another hand got a hold of his hair and yanked him back. "You think you can leave without saying hello to me?" Chandler growled in his ear, sending his son to the floor. After a good beating, with his son bleeding on the floor, Chandler returned to the kitchen for a beer. Chaz was out of the house before the man was all the way out of the room.
