Well, if you are going political, I would say senator would be the highest feasible for one person, and even then you would probably get caught. Maybe a member of the house would be easier, but I doubt it. If you want to get away with it, I suppose a governor is possible, but still very difficult. I would say mayors and below are the most doable for politics.

As for non-political, well... A real cartel would be really, really hard. Some of them have their own private armies, so you would have to be very good and very lucky to pull that off. The guy you are taking down now is probably small time in comparison to the real Mexican cartels. Outside of drugs, I suppose gang leaders are a possibility, albeit a difficult one depending on the group. I would think a mafia leader would be prepared for assassination, so it would be a challenge.

Of course, this is only my thoughts on it, so I defer to Zero on it as he has obviously done a ton of research. Also, as for the 12" revolver, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is a Colt Peacemaker.

Well, as I said, Valentine brought down a senator, and he did get caught; he simply managed to shoot his way out (using a bunch of planted explosives) and got out of the country before he could be tracked. It was an incredibly close call.

As I said, the only way to bring down even a medium-sized cartel would either be to attack with overwhelming force, or to slip inside with a suppressed, subsonic weapon (either a pistol, a submachine gun or a specialised special forces-issue rifle such as the AS-VAL) and use that to kill the guards, and even then, there's no guarantee that you'd manage to escape. Which is why I'm confounded why a supposedly experienced assassin like Gracie would attack with a revolver (which can't be suppressed). As for the Mafia, well, you'd need to do it covertly; the Mafia hitmen will be incredibly well-armed, and as a rule, one person - no matter how well-equipped or skilled - can't take down ten people with assault rifles on their own in one go.

I most certainly have done a lot of research for my novel; I wanted to keep it as realistic as possible, so I spent months researching it before I even started writing. I'm probably on every government watchlist ever now. Also, the Peacemaker only had either a 5.5 inch or a 7.5 inch barrel. As I said, a twelve-inch barrel is absolutely massive. The reason why I asked about the calibre of Gracie's revolver was because I was curious as to whether it'd be effective against Valentine's body armour (as a rule, you'd need something on the order of a .44 or .50 AE pistol round, or a full-sized rifle round to punch through ceramic armour; and even then, you'd probably need multiple shots with the pistol rounds).
