Alexander Fynn vs. Lamina Manira

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Kilgannon on Thu Feb 24, 2011 11:04 pm

This is of course, a duel/sparring between Sara Whitley and I.
It will be a realistic set spar. It is for the sake of me gaining experience in both swordplay and text based fighting in general.
This wind you talk of blows us from ourselves.

Lamina Manira entered the Salle D'Armes, a traditional training hall similar to the European counterpart to the popular dojo setting. Wooden weaponry lined the walls on either side, the large polished floor depicting a wide circle approximately fifteen feet in diameter. Garbed in her typical sleeveless black battledress, black nylon leggings and polished steel-toe boots, she was ready whenever--and a simple wooden sword was grasped in her right hand, the arm lazily slack before she moved into stance.
She stood at the edge of the circle, her right foot forward and body contorted to a profiled angle that faced her bare, cut-scarred right shoulder to the opponent. At a forty-five degree angle the wooden sword was poised, it's tip angled between the opponent's eyes.
"Do not be afraid to attack first. Come--try to hit me."

Alexander Fynn was already at the opposite edge of the circle, not quite sure about the proper stance. He didn't know much about swordplay, it had taken him at least fifteen minutes to even find one that felt balanced in his hand. And they were just wooden! He looked up at his opponent, eying what she was wearing and then looking down at his own clothes. He was wearing a tight black shit and plain jeans. He hadn't really known what to wear, he was new to this whole fighting thing in general. He looked back up at Lamina's stance and tried his best to copy it, though just looked awkward. He gave on that and just stood straight, sword angled out in front of him.
"Do not be afraid to attack first." echoed through his head almost immediately after his opponent had said them. 'Right, attack first. You can do this' he thought as he ran forward at Lamina, raising the sword with both hands. When he reached her he would attempt to bring the sword down upon the shoulder that was bared at him, though his form was off and he was ill experienced. If he were to hit her, it wouldn't do significant damage, nor would it really hurt.

Well, everyone had to start somewhere.
As Alexander Fynn took his final step toward Lamina and raised his sword, telegraphing his next move, Lamina twisted to face the opponent and stepped forward once in a rightward direction, closing the proximity just one step closer than had been expected. Alexander's sword still swung true, even though the will behind it was negligible. Had she not known of her opponent's true inexperience before the spar, she would have suspected a feint as opposed to a truly feeble attack, though her reaction would be the same. With her diagonal step inward, she was well within proximity to bring her own wooden sword upward in a parry-like motion, it's edge aiming upward to intercept the opponent's sword-bearing arms from below, "cutting" just at Fynn's descending wrists. the sideways nature of Lamina's step allowed her to get out of the way of the descending sword, should Alexander fail to register damage done to the arms.
