Anyone interested in a Final Fantasy VII Roleplay?I know, I know, some of you are probably rolling your eyes thinking, "Not another one." (It's okay, I do that too sometimes, heheh.) But being a big fan of the game, and not just the game but the overall universe, I've been itching to set up an RP.
I was hesitate at first - It's usually fan-based RPs that are quick to be butchered to no recovery. But I'm optimistic. So I thought I set up this OOC to get a chance to explain the RP and set it up before starting the IC.
Sorry if I come out to be strict at first, but I do have some expectation that participants won't have a problem writing decently-lengthened posts. (At least a paragraph or two).
Any characters here in the RP are to be original characters. You character can mention or have had an affiliation with characters from the games/movie (cloud, Tifa, etc), but keep in mind the setting is 17 years ahead of the video game. Other rules and regulations with be based according to the limits of the setting.

IMMEDIATE SETTING OF MY CHARACTERAnyway for my quick summary of my character and his immediate setting: Tax is a 34 year old explorer specializing in geology and archeology. who leads an expedition team across the globe. He works for and is funded by the Cosmo University Field Study Association (CUFSA). His is currently searching for clues to reveal historical information on the Ancients (the Cetra). As leader he also captains a small airship (The size of a large bus), which transports him and his team. Though Tax is known to go into riskier operations than usual, his supervisors and officials from other departments have recently been questioning his motives on the choice of his destinations on where to excavate since he's following his "dreams" and not concrete evidence. Even his own team members are a little skeptical however trust Tax enough since he has never let them down before. (More information about him on his character sheet.)
Eventually as the plan goes for the team is that they discover a map which will lead them to a location where there may be the last remaining living Cetra/Ancients.

a legal antagonist (Minimal skill - This individual is an agent of the World Regenesis Organization Economic Supervising Department (WRO-ES) and has just joined up with the team to monitor and critique Tax's research expeditions. The WRO-ES keeps tabs on the financial distribution of CUFSA and has been very skeptical of the funding proposals for Tax's expeditions, which is why this individual was sent. The WRO-ES agent is least acquainted with the team members and least familiar with the protocols and activities of the group. The agent is highly knowledgeable of finances, the economy, and has the social skills of a good businessperson. The only required personality trait is that the agent is initially very skeptical and critical of Tax's actions.
***WITH THE EXPECTION OF THE LEGAL ANTAGONIST, ALL OF TEAM MEMBERS HAVE KNOWN TAX LONG ENOUGH TO STAY LOYAL AND TRUSTWORTHY OF HIM (OTHERWISE THEY STILL WOULDN'T BE WORKING HIM). THE TEAM TEAMERS CAN HAVE DIFFERENT MOTIVES/REASONS TO TRUST TAX - for example they feel to be very close friends or they just enjoy the risky adventures that Tax has a habit of them into or etc.***

TIMELINE AND GENERAL SETTING17 years have past since the global domination of Shin-Ra Electric Company, the summoning of Meteor, the awakening of the WEAPONs, and the destruction of Midgar.
15 years have past since the attempted revival of Sephiroth by Kadaj.
14 years have passed since the awakening of Deepground and the battle to subdue the OMEGA WEAPON.
It has also been 5 years since the discovery of the lion species; the species of the famous Nanaki (Red XIII), who was thought to be the last of his kind.
Now…civilization as well as the planet has managed to stabilize thanks to the World Regenesis Organization (WRO). As new towns and cities are rebuilt, worldwide peace is slowly being establish. But while scientists obtain a better understanding of the planet, there are others that seek for darker answers.
Meanwhile politicians are developing a plan to advance into local governments and eventually become independent from WRO, but such progress will still take about another 10-20 years in order to maintain the economic stability that they’ve only recently attained.
The artificial conversion of Lifestream to into Mako and synthetic Materia is illegal worldwide. Because of this, Materia have become very hard to possess. Only existing materia can be traded or sold and natural occurring Materia is a rare find. Only members of the World Regenesis Organization Defense Department (WRO-D) and Cosmo University Field Study Association (CUFSA) have decent access to materia and the opportunity to train with it. Also one must possess a license to legally own materia.

So all the cities and town on following map exist today, with the exception of Midgar which is in total ruins. The town of Edge, is located just on the outskirt of the Midgar ruins but even that town is disintegrating over the years as people emigrate to better locations and lifestyles.

World Regenesis Organization Economic Supervising Department (WRO-ES) - Headquarters located at Junon. This branch is responsible for monitoring trading routes and aid towns and businesses to have equal access to the economy.
World Regenesis Organization Home and Civil Engineering Department (WRO-HC) - Headquarters at Junon. This branch helps lead to the rebuilding and construction of towns and roadways worldwide.
World Regenesis Organization Defense Department (WRO-D) - Headquarters located at Junon with the major training facility located in the Nibel Mountains. Once the major police force of the world keeping everything in check during the global recovery, this army has gradually lost more weight of work as towns stabilize and establish their own police and justice system. Though the groups of WRO-D are still scattered throughout the globe hired by governments or privately for protection for various reason: from dismantling local mobs to eliminating monsters. This group consists of staff highly trained in defense, combat, weaponry, and even rarer - magic or summoning arts. A selected few have been enhanced through the process of “Mako Showering.” Mako Showering is the process in which an individual is momentarily exposed to liquid Mako, which ultimately provide enhanced strength and reflexes. (The source of the Mako is not synthetic, but is merely collected from natural pools in the Nibel Mountains). The because natural Mako is very rare, the process is only carried out to members who've proven to be completely trustworthy of WRO. Trained members of this branch are commonly known as WRO-soldiers.
World Regenesis Organization Alternative Fuel Department (WRO-AF) - Headquarters located at North Corel. This department is solely responsible for the prevention of technological regression, when the main fuel source was once Mako Energy. Within a short amount of time, the WRO-AF has managed to locate oil fields and natural gas mines and disperse the fuel throughout the globe. As the WRO-AF locate new fuel sources, the department slowly establishes the sites with different private owners to prevent any chance of economic monopoly. A subdivision of this department is also increasing the use of clean renewable energy, which is being pushed by GWECA.
World Regenesis Organization Medical and Technology Department (WRO-MT) - Headquarters located at Junon. The department is focused on medical research and technological advancements. They have successfully created various cyborg prosthetics, and have discovered cures to 77% of all known bacterial and viral diseases. They have vastly improved robotic and AI technology. They have created robots to serve in almost all mechanical operations and maintenance jobs. They recently created several prototype androids to serve in WRO-D.
World Restoration Organization Aviation and Space Department (WRO-AS) - Headquarters located at Rocket Town, including avian factory, building the bulk of the world's planes, helicopters, and airships. This branch is still the major provider for the World’s major aviation transportation. It is currently training many students as pilots and engineers for various aircrafts including helicopters, planes, and airships. It is also developing a department for rocket engineering for possible space travel, which was recently responsible for the launch for the two first artificial satellites, which orbit the planet. Any pilot and owner of any aircraft has been trained through this branch. Some pilots are trained as soldiers who lead the transportation units for WRO-D. Only recently are private airline companies opening to establish more secure routes.
Cosmo University Field Study Association (CUFSA) - This is an organization purely funded by Cosmo University located just outside Cosmo Canyon. The organization consists of scientists and the top university students who research out in the field, usually teamed with members of GWECA. The subject of research varies between biology, geology, lifestream and materia studies, and archeology. Many of researchers are highly knowledgeable on Lifestream, materia and few of the most skill of magic and summoning arts are members.
Gaia Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Association (GWECA) - What started as a local conservation and clean-up group at Junon, is now a global organization. It’s headquarters is stationed at the Junon Underwater Facility, which was once the Mako reactor of Junon. The Underwater Facility is currently in the process of being establish as a University focused on Marine Science and Engineering. It is heavily funded and supported by the Cosmo University. It’s major goal is to converse wildlife, foresee major human activity worldwide, and research the natural of the Mako mutations of the many infected species throughout the Shin-Ra era. The GWECA had discovered the whereabouts of the species of that of the famous Nanaki, 5 years ago. The unofficial name of Nanaki’s species is “red.” There are six red individuals that are active members of the Association. GWECA is strongly against the "Mako showering process" still used by WRO-D.

Occupation and skills: CUFSA-hired explorer; Archeology and Geology specialist. Leader of his expedition team. He's very knowledgeable in world geography and generally serves as the navigator when traveling .He's been an excavator all his life and an explorer for 15 years. He has a lot of experience in mountain climbing and has basic training in first aid.
Attire: Hiking boots, tattered blue jeans, a wife beater with a buttoned shirt with tropical silhouettes, a red visor.
Physical Description: 6’1” tall. He has a solid physique thanks to his occupation. He has short dark hair; usually messy. His eyes are weird mix of hazel with an almost green sheen (a result from past mako poisoning) He has a thin beard that outlines the rim of his chisel chin. Picture of Tax:

He always carries with him a survival knife which he uses frequently for multiple uses. He'll also have is mountain climbing and excavation gear when necessary.
He also carries two materia strapped to his belt.
Sense: When equipped he can literally sense the presence of nearby individuals their spiritual aura and when focusing on an organism he can sense their general health by the state of their aura. (So it’s almost impossible to sneak up on the guy)
Barrier (at level one): When equipped he can emit a temporary force field at will; but it only can only last for several moments at a time and the duration is further decreased depending on the stress it uptakes. He normally activates the materia in emergency situations, normally a defense against falling rocks or just falling.
Brief History:
Hymer Tackston was born in the Bone village. He comes from a long line of diggers and was raised as one. He learned much about mineralogy, materia, and different types of magical artifacts. He and a group of friends were fortunate enough to find on of the enchanted musical instruments that have the ability to awaken the sleeping forest north of his village and allow passage into the Forgotten City. As a teenager he was distant witness to all the epic events that had occurred in a short time; from meteor’s summoning to the Lifestream quakes caused by the awakening of OMEGA WEAPON. At the age of 18 Hymer finally set off to Junon to look for work. It was in Junon that he heard of organization of CUFSA and then traveled to Cosmo canyon. He was hired on the spot and after joining several excavation crews, his supervisors were impressed by his skills in contributing much to accomplish many excavation goals. By the time here turned 28 Hymer was promoted to lead his own team. Hymer always insisted on taking on the more dangerous missions and would never come back empty-handed.
At the age of 32 Hymer was excavating buried ruins on an island northeast of Mideel when there was a massive earthquake in the area. A huge fault opened and lifestream oozed below. One of his team members fell on a ledge halfway down the fault. Luckily they had the equipment to rescue the member. Hymer was the one to climb to and provide the harness for the member to make their way up and climb out of the fault. Hymer wasn't so lucky. On his way climbing back up, a surprise tremor caused the rope break and he fell into the lifestream.
His body was not found until eight days later 12 miles down the fault. He was in a coma for two week before he recovered. Ever since then, Hymer would have vivid dreams about the location of maps around the world. These maps were to reveal the location "frozen in time." Constantly having these dreams Hymer was convinced they were real. He made it his goal to find one his these maps. So far he's made two pricey expeditions and each on a failure (a big shock to the whole CUFSA community) Hymer is now at his third attempt. Most of his superiors are concerned of his actions, chasing off wild dreams. Many are already convinced that he has permanent psychological damage from the Lifestream exposure - that he's crazy. He and his team are now in the mountains south of the Western Continent making their third attempt.
Personality: Hymer (close friends call him Tax) is a regular adventurer and outdoorsman. He is very intelligent in his field and passionate of his job. He's has the knack for making seemingly boring topics (like rocks and ruins) into very intriguing motivations. He's very informal and likes to get to the point. He hardly has any phobias and always insists on doing the most dangerous parts of the job. When he encounters an substantial danger he can keep his cool long enough until someone of a better position to handle the situation in time. For example, when face to face with a monster, he knows he can rely on his bodyguard to clean the mess or when the airship as a midair mechanical problem, he's calm knowing that the pilot will be able to save them in the knick of time. As a leader he has confidence in his crew and expects a mutual trust. He also feels that he's responsible for giving his crew an experience of a lifetime and reward them accordingly. He has a tradition to take his crews to biggest parties or festivals after completing an expedition. He's the type of guy that would give the shirt off his back when someone's ever in trouble. When whenever confronted in conflict, Hymer normally responds with dry sarcasm.
