Brothers Dissolution
Book 1: The Avatar
Water, Earth, Fire, Air
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony, then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements could stop them, though when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed, and my brother and I discovered the new avatar, Aang. And although his Airbending skills are great he has a lot to learn before he is ready to save anyone. But I believe, that Aang can save the world.
"Introducing, Avatar Roshan!" Standing in-between the crowd like any other citizen, Roshan was trying to bring some logic to what just happened. The ceremony had lasted nearly two hours... time spent with Ba Sing Se slowly filling up with people. From Air Nomads to the Water Tribe, and even Fire Nation, joining together for this monumental event. Roshan, Avatar Roshan, would be the one to succeed Avatar Kiew of the Water Tribe. How was this possible?! Roshan, the Avatar, keeper of balance? This had to be a joke. Roshan would be sure to ask his father about this later, but for now, he did sort of enjoy the attention.
"The avatar has been restoring balance since the beginning of time, having protected all nations... having showed that we all can come together, differences aside. Sixteen years ago, Avatar Kiew peacefully passed away, leaving a window for a new Avatar to step through... for another life to begin. Today, destiny takes hold, and that window is now closed. A new journey begins with the new Avatar, my son, Roshan. Tomorrow, he will travel to the Water Tribe to begin mastering the elements, the most hardest of all treks."
"So today, we stand here as not four nations, but one, to open our arms to the new Avatar, keeper of balance, and wish him luck on his upcoming journey." Earth King Minzeh stated, waving his arms in the air as the crowd began to yet again roar from excitement. Roshan was on the stage then, but his father encouraged him to get out there with the people and show them that he cared. In which he didn't. What was so great about having to save the world from its unrelenting terrors? Roshan would rather have a little fun rather than having to slave around for everyone else. The only person Roshan really cared about was himself, and that's how it had always been.
"Yes, yes, no need to scream, the Avatar is here." Roshan flaunted, waving about while making his way through the ocean of people that surrounded him; tipping his hat to cover his eyes, trying to escape this mayhem, his father abruptly appeared in front of him, stopping him. "I could not be any prouder, my son, the Avatar. You bring honor to the Earth Kingdom, and never forget where you are from. You have a long journey ahead of you... so let us return to the palace so you may rest." Roshan looked up to his father with a sigh... why him? It took him long enough to learn Earthbending... but now, he had to master, Waterbending, Airbending, and Firebending too. He didn't deserve this, and even though most people would be ecstatic, why wasn't he?
Roshan knew he was a screwup, he knew that he would be nothing like the prodigy his brother was... he couldn't do it, he couldn't be the Avatar that everyone wanted. "Dad, what if I don't want to be the Avatar... what if I can't do it..." Roshan asked, looking at the ground, disgusted with himself. "You must never say that Roshan! It is your duty, destiny chose you for a reason. You will master the elements Roshan, not because you have to do it, but because you have the power too." Putting a single hand under his sons chin, he lifted Roshan's head up and looked into his eyes. "If your mother was alive... if she could see this." Roshan pushed his fathers hand away and scowled, "Don't bring mom up, please?"
"If that is what you wish my son. Now, we'll go to the palace. You're not the only one suffocating from all these people." Smiling, his father looked around to the people and waved one last time before the rocks under him latched onto his legs and pulled him under. Roshan simply followed his father underground, taking to the secret tunnels.
"Not fair... the Avatar... fate should have chosen someone else. I could never meet the expectations." Roshan mumbled, crossing his arms. "You are wrong Roshan, you have done it many times before. You can do it, and you will." Saw that coming. If Roshan did have past lives, why was he the way he was now? He was nothing like the past Avatars, nothing like Avatar Kiew or any of his others lives. He was a fool.
"I'm going to let everyone down..." He murmured, stopping. "And when did you start caring about what others thought? I'd thought you'd be happy to hear such news. Where is my real flamboyant son?" Glaring at his father, Roshan removed his bamboo hat and grinned, "I'll admit, the attention is nice... but how do you know it's me?"
"We have things in place for that... destiny has an odd way of showing itself. But what does it matter? You are, and it's just that." Sprouting from the ground, appearing in one of the empty alleys close to the palace, Roshan and his father went on with their conversation.
"Naguri is the real prodigy... not me. I'll never be as good as him." It was true, his brother was an Earthbending prodigy, someone that his father could truly be proud of, but Roshan? He was nothing.
"Your brother is great, true enough, but you were meant to be greater. There is no changing your destiny, so just live with it okay?" Nodding once, almost to the palace, both Roshan and Earth King Minzeh were rudely interrupted...
