It had struck the ambassador as a little odd that the dragon stones never seemed to run out, and now it seemed that they did. This was vital knowledge, for the weapons were not so good as they once thought. But if the outlanders set up just a small trading post to supply dragon food they would hardly be invading the sacred ground. No, surely the High Chieftain would approve such a mutually beneficial agreement as this. Perhaps it was time for the tribes to learn to negotiate permanent alliances instead of merely deliver ultimatums. Their survival might depend on it.

"Because you give we extra dragonsticks and teach we secret bout them, we let you make trade village. High Chieftain send workers, help you build. Remember, this our land, and our land sacred. No defile, and no reason not to be friends. I thank for taking Hlulit, he gladly learn you ways to help us understand. Will there be else?"

Taking the dragonsticks, the guards hauled them back into the slowly-rebuilding walls of the city of victory. The ambassador indicated a place not far down the coastline for the trade village to be built, allowing them to be observed in case they tried to break their word but also allowing both sides easy access to one another's villages.

Well, this was a lost cause... Suyov tried to salvage it, saying, "We will give you Steel, Iron, and one of our Artilley, in exchange for... Gold, and we will not bother you anymore."

The ambassador cocked his head at the red-banner.

"What he say? Why he still here? You translate for we, please."

The Emissary nodded, "We will honor our part of the agreement. We can trade Dragonsticks for Jade, yes?" He then told the crew of the ship the location for where the post was to be constructed. Then, as his newfound ally asked him to translate the Ambassador's speech, he complied, answering, "Red-Flags will give you Iron, steel, and one big dragonstick! For Gold, and Red-Flags will not defile your sacred grounds any longer..." He then looked at the Native, awaiting his response.

"Yes, jade good trading. We get our stores, offer them to you for dragonsticks. As for red-banner... we think... he come back when trade town built, and we offer gold, jade then. For now, we not say yes or no. Since he cause much death, only High Chieftain decides, but we say his offer good. Build you village quickly, we begin trade soon."

The guards returned, carrying between them a wicker chest about the size of a soldier's footlocker. Placing it upon the ground they removed the lid, revealing a three foot by one foot by one foot piece of carved jade. Long serpents were carved into its length, inset with black obsidian to stand out against the green. Picking it up the guards tipped it upright, like a post, and two jade amulets slid from its depths. They replaced the large piece but did not return the lid to its position, then offered an amulet to the white-banner and (with some reluctance) the red-banner.

"These trade amulets, grant you safe walk through we's lands with less than fifteen men. This way we know you not attacking. You also leave behind riding dragons and weapons you not trade, to be safe. As long as you wear amulet we not hurt you, for that against honor. We also offer jade tradestone, made by master of carve, for barter."

The Emissary nodded, "We will build village as quickly as we can." He then turned to the Red Diplomat, saying, "He remains indifferent on your offer, he's going to let his Leader decide, since your people have caused so much destruction." Jon then eagerly accepted the amulet, putting it on with pride, and said, "Thank you, we will bring back Hlulit after some seasons have passed." He then bowed slightly to the emisarry, and taking Hlulit with him, returned to the ship, to depart back to the mainland.

Three Days Later...

The Cargo Ship arrived off-shore, unloading construction supplies in the designated area, as well as soldiers, with stict orders not to go beyond the beach or cleared area.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dinsmark, Belkan Reich

As Jon made his way into the Kaiser's office, the native boy, Hlulit, with him, he made his way up to the Kaiser's desk, at which he was sitting and proudly introduced Hlulit. The Kaiser asked, "Does he speak our tounge?"

Jon shook his head, saying, "But he can be taught."

The Kaiser nodded, saying, "I'll take him in, teach him our ways, in the meanwhile, Jon, you are appointed as ambassador to these people, set up an Embassy in this, trade village on the island. I'd much like to meet this high cheiftan..."

Jon, his spirits uplifted by this comment, asked, "When do I depart, mein Kaiser?"

The Kaiser shrugged, saying, "As soon as you wish."

Jon, who had felt a special attachment to these people, immediatly departed, ready to return to the island...

((Are you going to rp the boy?))

The Red Diplomat returned to his skiff, where in he set off for the Destroyer, which remained parked there, while the troops transports went back to their Naval bases for use in the upcoming invasion.

--------------------------------------------------

Anton, Zhukov and the Admiral spent a large chunk of their time clearing up the exact details of the battle plan, and it was a a long week.

---------------------------------------------------------

In otherwords, lets cap off all the IC events but the invasion and the island, and let's get to work.

Re: Diplomacy IC

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Pandorym on Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:30 am

The ambassador made his report to the High Chieftain, who listened silently. The man had overstepped the bounds of his authority, certainly, but did not seem to have caused any deep harm. If the white-banners wished to establish a trading post and the red-banners wished to redeem themselves, why not allow them to do so? Despite having a society that revolved around the hunt, whether human or animal, other hunters who proved their worth were also to be respected. If these outlanders could show that they did indeed have honor they would be tolerated among the tribes.

With a wave of his hand he dismissed the man, pondering what would happen next. The red-banners seemed to have gotten the wrong idea about how to impress them and had overreacted to the destruction of a minor village that was not even their own. It was fortunate that the Seat of the Tribes was, unlike the now-ruined temple complex at Mt. Izcoatl, nearly impossible to find. Without a guide, outlanders would have to raze the entire jungle to locate it. That did not include, of course, the newly-restored Warrens of Vision. The ceremonies to reconsecrate them were well underway, and the High Chieftain himself intended to be buried there.

The gift of dragonsticks and the promise of more was excellent news, but part of the High Chieftain wondered what it meant in the long run for his tribe. He had outlawed the use of the weapons for hunting, ensuring that his men were not sloppy with the bow and arrow, but the dragonsticks meant long-term reliance on the outlanders. Who was left to fight, anyway? He would have his men practice with them as well, ensuring that they could use them against the outlanders for a time if needed, but he had to ensure that the old ways were safe in the face of new ones. Without the guidance of the priests or the High Warlord, everything was in his hands.

-----------------

As the trading post was set up, most of the tribesmen stayed well back. The spot had been picked so that it was not above the Warrens of Vision this time, as a gesture of good faith that the outlanders would not know of, but most were still skeptical of the honor of the newcomers. Even so the High Chieftain sent thirty workers from the City of Victory to aid in the construction of the trading post however they could. The ambassador's translator, whose vocabulary and grammar continued to improve, accompanied them.

"We bring the workers promised of you. Where they are needed?"

The Kaiser made his way across the dock, accompanied by both his Admiral, Native Geust, and Field Marshal of the Luftwaffe. He then looked over the many amphibious and other assorted landing craft arrayed in port, and he turned to his admiral and asked, "Go over the operational plan for Blau Nacht again with me Hans, how are we going to secure the islands once the saturation bombing has finished?"

Hans chuckled, and started on his explanation of the Blau Natch offensive, The Kaiser was going to like this.

"Emil, assuming that we are going to disable Peace's naval force in the bombing, I am planning to storm the major port cities, but not before using our off shore firepower to disable coastal defenses, and I'm sure the Luftstreitkräfte will be a great help in this."

He thought about the long and complex plan, and added:

"Once we have the beaches, the Reichseer will take over, and we will provide transport from the mainland to the islands, where we will then storm the beachs on the Peace Mainland, and preform more covert operations in the coastal ports, using the first push as a decoy. It will be bloody, but it will work. Once we have the ports, we begin moving troops in, and the Reichseer again takes control of the operation."

Hans took a breath, he had said all of that in one long stream, not pausing at all.

The workers did as they were directed, moving the village components the like of which they had never seen around so that the white-banner warriors could assemble them into vast huts. They labored throughout the day, more than used to the strain of constant heavy lifting, and only stopped to rest once the hottest part of the day was over and evening had come. They knew that it was best to work hard until the day was cool, for to be more exerted and rest without extreme heat is better than to try to rest under the merciless sun...
