The 21st Century didn't turn out so great. Maybe we had a bad start, and just spun out of control somewhere along the way. Maybe capitalism just got the better of us. Either way, the world has turned into a darker place. Terrorism, crime, violence, drugs, war, government oppression... You name it, we're fighting it. Not like in the good ol' days, though. Nations aren't what they used to be. Countries are just a sentimental remnant of the past - puppets of something much, much more terrifying.

Supernational corporations with complete sovereignty from any nation, have taken over the influence and power that nations once had. War has become a business run and fought by powerful private military companies - politics a tool of boards of directors, the law a surgical precision weapon used by corporate security forces - and privacy, a commodity that few can afford.

Freedom of speech and thought is not high on the priority list of corporations, and censorship of the Internet has gone a long way towards a dystopian society with the ratification of the Sunshine Act, banning any and all forms of encryption of information and communication. That's right. In the 21st Century, it's illegal to protect your privacy.

Some people fight it, of course. We're humans, after all. There'll always be stragglers - rebels - resisting the future. Those few men and women who dare to stand up to the corporations are branded as terrorists and criminals by the law. By the few humans in this world who can see the flaw in the System, they are known as computer cowboys - digitally carried freedom fighters who uses the Internet like the guerillas of old used the kalashnikov. To the corporations, they are a nuisance. To the average citizen, they are terrorists. But to those who can see, they are heroes.

The year is 2032 - Sapporo, Japan.
Corporate-related crimes are spiking. An epidemic is spreading in the lower classes of the city. Riots by "Luddites", who dislike the expansion of technology in the city, is causing unrest. The government is cracking down hard on those who would not conform to the System. And in the middle of it all, corporations and computer cowboys are waging a silent war against each other, a war that reaps plenty of casualties on both sides. In Sapporo, a hotpot of Western and Eastern cultures mixed up to form a high-tech society booming with cyberpunk subculture and international business, the violence is thriving. Something has to be done. The job falls to the Sapporo Special Police Division.

This is a cyberpunk roleplay that is intended to detail the actions and work of a group of officers within the Sapporo Special Police. It'll partly be a classic police story, and partly cyberpunk, with some anime elements thrown into it for the heck of it. I've had a lot of inspiration from different anime series, which might show, but if it does, it's because I want it to. It takes place in the future, but with contemporary Japanese and Western culture mixed into it. There'll be clashes with big corporations, with Yakuza crime syndicates, computer-tied hacker vigilantes, and everything else I can think of. There'll also be some conspiracy theory themes á la Deus Ex 1 and 3 (Not the second one, it wasn't THAT good.)

I'm looking for somebody to GM this roleplay with me, help me build it and run through it, since it's difficult running a roleplay detailing police investigations, by yourself. If you're interested, hit me up with a PM! :D And any and all tips, tricks, thoughts and opinions you have on the idea, please post them here in the thread. Those are always welcome.
