Monster Rancher: The Epic Crusade (Players Wanted)

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby wolfangel26 on Fri May 15, 2009 11:52 pm

Everyone knows that monsters aren't real. Not on Earth anyways. The only place they exist on our planet lies in the cinema, storybooks, and in our own hearts. But our story doesn't take place on Earth, not even close. No...in fact...our tale begins in a parallel world known as Gaia....

The vast world of Gaia was once covered in beautiful, highly-advanced civilzations. A single continent covered the world, known as Pangea. An on Pangea, humans flourished. Humanity had developed into a society completely dependent on their technology. Futuristic advancements were made in medicine, aviation, communication, artificial intelligence, and warfare. However, the true apex of their civilization came with their development in genetic engineering. Using gene manipulation, they were able to develop special designer pets and store their genetic information on stone tablets known as "disks", similar to CDs. Using these disks, the artificial animals could be regenerated at special shrines. These designer pets were named given the title, 'Monsters'. They came in a vast variety of shapes and sizes, various breeds created for various purposes.

For many years, life continued peacefully on Gaia. However, man's idealic society, civil societies soon fell victim to corruption and vanity. And thus, the Era of the Great Wars was born. The Monsters then become modified, no longer to be mere pets and companions, but to be biological weapons to serve as tools of warfare. This was merely the beginning of a long, enduring struggle, which engulfed the entire continent of Pangea.

The Wars continued for hundreds of years, never ceasing. Finally, Humanity made their gravest mistake and created a Monster they believed would finally win the war. This Monster was given the name, 'Muu', meaning 'void' or 'nothing'. Once Muu was released, he wreacked endless havoc on his opponents, unable to be stopped by either Man or Monster. Everyone who stood in his path were annihilated.

Muu's creators believed they had finally won and that the Wars were finally over. Alas, this was not true. Muu then turned in defiance of his masters, and fought both foes and allies alike! Muu was not the saviour they had anticipated, but a harbringer of death and destructions!

Only a small handful of scientists from the 'Muu Project' had survived. Working tirelessly, they sought to create another Monster, capable of destroying Muu. And that was how the Phoenix was born. The Phoenix was a Monster unlike any other, created out of all that was good and pure. Created in the image of the legendary firebird of ancient legend, its sole purpose was to restore balance to the world of Gaia.

And so, the two titans faced off at the center of Pangea, in the ruins of the cities Muu destroyed. They clashed for days, all the while, their creators working on what was known as the 'Final Gate'. A shrine, yes, but its purpose was not the same as others. While Muu and the Phoenix battled, the scientists activated the Final Gate and unleashed its power on their creations. Just as it was designed to do, it separated each of their minds from their bodies, locking them within a Mystery Disk! But the energy from the Final Great was so tremendous, it destroyed the scientists, and nearly destroyed the planet! Pangea was in ruins, the force of the Gate dividing the enormous continent into various segments. It also returned every Monster not destroyed in the war back into Mystery Disks and spread them across the world.

The bodies of both Muu and the Phoenix were sealed at the very ends of the planet, hidden away from the world so they would never be unleashed again. And the humans of Gaia struggled to recover from the horrors of the Great Wars...

A few centuries years had passed, and humanity was just beginning to rediscover its basic technology. They had begun to find the Mystery Disks from so long ago, and attributed these artifacts to the society of Pangea with 'divine powers'. The people who created these disks and shrines were named, 'The Ancients'. Slowly, humans and Monsters began to rebuild their culture.

However, the shaken peace did not last long. No one is quite sure how, but Muu's mind had been unlocked and he was back. Soon after, his body had been recovered as well. With his army of 'Baddies', Monsters who bore his crest and carried out his evil will, he sought to take over the world once more!
History spoke of a great hero from another world, known as 'Genki', who, with his allies, battled against Muu. Together, with his friends, he was able to resurrect the mythic Phoenix, who once again battled the powerful Muu. Aided by the Courage of friends and allies, the Phoenix began to overpower his enemy. Both understood they would be locked in an endless struggle against one another, and in a desperate effort to end it, both Muu and the Phoenix used all their power and destroyed one another. Their bodies were completely destroyed, yet their minds were once again sealed in Mystery Disks, hidden from the world.
And so peace returned the world of Gaia.
****
A thousand years have passed since that epic battle, and Gaia has since rebuilt its society. Maybe not as advanced as the Ancients, but it was peaceful nevertheless. Cities had been rebuilt, small towns and villages as well. And thus, a new popular sport was reborn, Monster Breeding. Breeders and Trainers raised Monsters to battle in nationwide tournaments to see who could raise the most powerful Monster.
And yet, some still maintained a simple lifestyle, raising Monsters as part of the family or beasts of burden. Regardless, the people of Gaia are content, yet evil never really dies.
The evil of Muu's mind still remains, hidden within a Myster Disk in some dark part of the world. And it is there....our story begins....

****

Nile walked threw the busy little street. He was in a small town that he had found somehow by chance but he didnt really know where he was. Graffiti and Puchi both followed closly behind him. A few different monster's looked at Graffiti in a weird way but he didnt really notice. Nile noticed a few different little restaurants that where run by different humans and monster's and a lot of people running to and from different shops. He walked into a small little restaurant and sat down. Graffiti and Puchi both sat down next to him and where both looking around for something to do. A women walked up to Nile and asked him what he would like to have to eat but he said that he just wanted some water. "So... what are we gonna do know Nile" Graffiti asked Nile as he looked at him. No matter what Graffiti always had that same mad look on his face even if he was as happy as he could be. "I dont know..." Nile said putting his head down.

((I'll go ahead and add a name to the town :) ))

Amelia was sitting by a large fountain, rolling a small gold coin across her fingers lightly as she stared up at the sky. The wind tossed her raven black hair lightly as it blew through the streets of the small town of Feris. It wasn't large compared to the more populated areas on the mainland. But it was large enough to have a decent number of shops and restauraunts. Its trade was pretty dependent on the crops of the small villages surrounding the area, but its marketplace had a wide variety of travelling traders.
Regardless of its seemingly booming commerce, business wasn't exactly hitting a high note for Amelia. There was hardly anywhere with a decent case.

"Ami!" she heard her nickname called out from a familiar voice. She turned around and saw Grey Wolf running towards her.

"Anything?" she asked. They had been scoping out potential targets to make a good steal from all morning.

"Not a single thing," he sighed, lowering his head in exhaustion. Amelia groaned, rolling her eyes.

"Maybe you're just not lookin' hard enough," another voice snickered. Both she and Grey Wolf turned to see their third companion, Wild Hare with a rather smug look on their face.

"Happy hunting?" Amelia smiled.

"If you consider this a profitable result, than yes," he smirked, tossing a small satchel of gold in his paws.

"Finally!" she sighed, "We can eat."

Grey Wolf felt the urge to swipe that smirk off of Wild Hare's face, but he was too hungry to care. The three made their way through the crowd to a restauraunt labeled, "Elsie's Cafe."

"I heard this place is really good!" Wild Hare insisted.

Grey Wolf scoffed, "You said that about that Diner in Granville."

Wild Hare shot him a glare, but Amelia shrugged. "Whatever, I'm famished. I'd eat anything about now."

Entering the cafe, she saw it was a little crowded, but there was still a table nearby. The three grabbed a table near the back, where there were less people. Ordering their drinks, they began looking through the menu at their possible meals.

"Be thrifty," Wild Hare advised. "It's a long way to the next town. We'll need this money to get supplies."

"If you're so talented," Grey Wolf growled, "Just steal some more money. We'll be fine."

"Quiet you two!" Amelia said. "Drawing attention to ourselves is the last thing we need to do!"

Nightshade moved about, people looking at the scar on his right eye he was being followed by Fang and Tiger. He entered a cafe he was only thirsty but he knew by this point that Tiger and Fang would be hungry so he might as well grab some grub too. Upon entering the cafe he heard someone talking about stealing and approached a female telling a Grey Wolf and Wild Hare to be quiet.

"TIger,Fang, come on."

Tiger expected trouble "Lets not bother them Nightshade I"d rather not get into a fight"

Fang looked at the Wild Hare and the Gray Wolf and thought they would be fun to face off against "C'mon lets start a fight with them it'll be fun"

Nightshade looked at both of them with a glare "Quiet the both of you I can handle this.....I think"

Tiger sighed "I hope you can handle this little brother"

Nightshade sighed hating it when Tiger didn't have confidence in him he approached the girl and smiled at her "Hey do you guys need some money?"
Lets change the world...together. Of course to fix it, were gonna have to break it.

"Hey do you guys need some money?" Amelia heard a voice from behind them speak.

She turned around, as did Grey Wolf and Wild Hare, with a hint of suspicion in their eyes to the boy who spoke. No one ever offered money out of the blue, at least not to them. They were never that lucky!

"What's the catch?" Grey Wolf growled.

"Indeed," Wild Hare added, scratching his chin as he pondered aloud. "Nothing is free these days."

Amelia looked from the boy to the Monsters accompanying him, a Tiger and a Fang. She was curious as to what would bring about such generosity, but there were always strings attached.

"What would you want in return?" Amelia said finally, folding her arms across her chest.

Nightshade's eyes seemed to study them almost as if he was trying to figure them out he grabbed Tiger by the scruff of the neck holding him back trying to keep him from opening his mouth and possibly starting a fight but he had forgotten about Fang who was going to try to use the situation to start a fight.

Fang knew that it was a somewhat tense moment and opened his mouth for the purpose of causing chaos "Anything and everything you have of course thats not much is iit."

Nightshade Let go of Tiger and promptly yet sharply smacked Fang upside the head "Manners Fang, Manners." As Fang rubbed his head nightshade turned his head towards the girl and her companions. "Forgive him he has no manners. But I want to travel around and by the looks of it your going to be traveling if you would I'd like a guide."

"Anything and everything you have of course thats not much is it?"the Monster, Fang, replied to them.

The hair on Grey Wolf's back stood up and he snarled, stepping forward. He could sense an instigator off the bat, and he never backed down from a fight. Unfortunately his temper got the best of him.

"We'll just see about that," he growled menacingly.

The boy instantly released his Tiger, who had seemed tempted to comment as well, to smack Fang.

"Manners Fang, Manners." he warned before turning back to Amelia. "Forgive him he has no manners. But I want to travel around and by the looks of it your going to be traveling if you would I'd like a guide."

Cocking her head to the side, Amelia had a small smile on her face, "That's a heartfelt offer...but we've traveled this continent for a while. We know the land pretty well. But I'm curious...why offer money to be a guide? Shouldn't it be the other way around?"

Nightshade's only thought was that he phrased what he said the wrong way. His mind began to swirl with thoughts and the only way he could do to clear this current predicament would be to explain what he meant.

His eyes seemed to shine with anticipaction. "I'm terribly sorry it appears that I might have phrase that the wrong way." Fang went to open his mouth Nightshade knew him well enough and smacked him again this time without looking. "Hold your tongue Fang otherwise your going to find out quickly how much you will not enjoy a fight. Now you see what I meant was if we paid you, Would you mind showing us around we don't know much except the snow region"

Tiger sighed and looked to Grey Wolf knowing that he had grown tense he was going to try tio diffuse the situation. "I'm sorry for Fang's attitude he just has yet to fully grow up" at this point he could only hope thathe would understand and forgive Fang for his transgressions

Twitch

Had he heard someone mention money?

Darc watched the two from afar, his hearing being well enough to hear their conversation. If this guy has money to throw around like that, Darc figured with a smirk, then that is something I gotta look into. With a chuckle he continued to watch and listen and here what his new targets would do.

Amelia listened as he corrected his earlier statement, instead offering money in return for some guidance. Her eyes looked from Fang to Tiger than back to the boy as she considered the offer.

"Allow me and my companions to talk this out, would ya?" she said, pulling both Wild Hare and Grey Wolf by the ears a safe distance where they wouldn't be heard. "So...what's the verdict?"

Grey Wolf glanced back over to them, then back to Amelia, "I don't sense treachery...but still...."

Wild Hare nodded, "Indeed, this could be a ploy to swindle us! You never know who to trust these days..."

"Yeah...we kinda figured that after meeting you," growled Grey Wolf under his breath.

"What was that!?" the Hare liked monster replied, his ears twitching angrily..

Amelia glared that them, "Quiet you two! Look...offers like this don't come around often. And if it is a trick, we'll just keep a close eye on them."

Her two friends said nothing, but they still seemed unsure as to whether or not this was a good idea. Amelia sighed, turning back to the boy and his two Monsters.

"Alright, we'll take ya as far as Veron City, with is quite a ways from here," she said. "In return...we want 500 gold. That should compensate for supplies and protection. Do we have a deal?"

Fang opened his mouth this time moving backwards so as not to be hit by Nightshade "how do we know this isn't a ploy? And we can handle ourselves you know."

Tiger looked at Fang "Fang quit harrassing them we're lucky as It is"

Nightshade smiled he was grateful "Well we were gonna grab a bite to eat so I'll pay you 500 gold and foods on me. Oh i forgot my name is Nightshade"

"How do we know this isn't a ploy? And we can handle ourselves you know," said Fang. One of Wild Hare's brows raised.

"You don't," he answered simply. "But that's a chance we're both taking."

"Well we were gonna grab a bite to eat so I'll pay you 500 gold and foods on me. Oh i forgot my name is Nightshade," the boy said, introducing himself with a smile. Amelia returned the smile.

"The name's Amelia Djinn," she said. "And this is Grey Wolf and Wild Hare, my companions."

When he agreed to the price, Amelia was honestly surprised. She wasn't expecting him to take the offer, since no one ever did. Plus he offered to pay for food! Maybe he was good for the money. Time would tell.

"How about this," she stated. "Pay half now, then half when we reach our destination. That way you know you won't be cheated. And if you're paying for our meal, then the money you give us now will go for supplies. Sound fair?"

Wild Hare opened his mouth to speak, but a swipe from Grey Wolf's paw silenced him. The rascally rabbit was no doubt hoping they would be paid fully now but Amelia was a girl who kept her word...even if she was a thief by trade. But honestly she didn't see anything...particularly suspicious of the new trio, so she had no reason to steal from them. And personally, she would rather steal from pompous nobles, like normal, then from fellow travelers.

So Nightshade and Amelia huh?, Darc mused as he recorded the names to memory, something tells me those two won't be as easy as my usual hits. It had been boring since Darc went out on his own and he was hoping to score big so he could relax for a while.

Nightshade nodded digging in his hoody pocket and fishing 250 gold, extending his hand he was cautious not of Amelia but of everyone else people made him nervous. of course Tiger knew this and wanted to make it clear how he felt "Forgive Nightshade he is nervous around people I'm hoping that you'll show him that people aren't so bad."

Fang sighed hearing the big brother act "Man Tiger your so sympathetic Nightshade can handle himself and besides if she doesn't want to play nice she doesn't have to ya know. If we get knifed in the back somehow that just reinforces the fact that he should be more careful and that might help him stop trusting people so easily."

Nightshade sighed he felt embarrassed that they could talk about him like that while he was standing right their "Enough both of you I've had enough of hearing this"

Amelia could see the boy was nervous, anxious perhaps. He handed over the money, which she accepted with a bright smile. But she could still see Nightshade was troubled.

"Forgive Nightshade he is nervous around people I'm hoping that you'll show him that people aren't so bad," Tiger said in his defense.

Before she could comment, Fang spoke. "Man Tiger your so sympathetic Nightshade can handle himself and besides if she doesn't want to play nice she doesn't have to ya know. If we get knifed in the back somehow that just reinforces the fact that he should be more careful and that might help him stop trusting people so easily."

"Enough both of you I've had enough of hearing this!" Nightshade said, silencing the two Monsters.

"Relax, man," Amelia said, putting a hand on his shoulder. She gave a quick wink to Tiger, "No worries. Not all folks are bad...just most. Stick with us, we'll show ya the ropes."

Well, she had a tendancy to run with some rough people in the past, but she was sure she could help Nightshade overcome the difficulties that come with trusting others too much. She doubted she could steal from someone with such faith in a complete stranger...but she still had to be sure if this was just an act or not. She didn't become a top thief by being a fool.

Nightshade's eyes seemed to almost relay a sign of relief wanting to change the subject so as to not look vunerable in front of his new companions "Well we are here to eat right?"

Tiger laughed realizing that Nightshade was emabbarssed of course it was somewhat obvious with his cheeks begining to turn red '"You know Nightshade being vunerable isn't a sign of weakness, rather it's a sign of purity"

Nightshade was at this point a beet red and Fang was snickering "Fang Tiger enough your both being ridiculous i'm not vulnerable nor am I funny"

"Well we are here to eat right?" Nightshade said in an attempt to change the subect.

"Indeed we are my good fellow," Wild Hare agreed gleefully, pulling up a seat at a larger table to accomodate all of them.

"You know Nightshade being vunerable isn't a sign of weakness, rather it's a sign of purity," Tiger said to Nightshade, whose cheeks were fairly flushed. But at that comment, his face deeply reddened.

"Fang Tiger enough your both being ridiculous i'm not vulnerable nor am I funny," Nightshade retorted.

Amelia could only smile as she, too, took a seat beside Wild Hare and Grey Wolf.

"This could be a rather long journey if you all keep bickering like that," she noted as she looked back at the menu.

Nightshade sighed, while taking a seat knowing she was right but the fact of how he felt about them talking about him like that didn't help. "Well hopefully these too will quit giving me such a hard time"

Fang laughed as he sat in a chair and still seemed to tall to fit in "Nope i'm gonna bug you the whole way there brother for me this is gonna be a pleasant little ride"

Tiger looked at them both and sat next to Grey Wolf while Nigthshade was in the middle of him and Fang "allright Fang we should quit pestering him so badly otherwise he might not grow up"

When the waitress had come by their table, Amelia ordered a grilled cheese sandwhich with fries...something not too expenisive. While Nightshade offered to pay for their food, she wasn't just going to mooch off of him. She knew Wild Hare wanted the entire buffet, but a small glare from her and Grey Wolf forced him to just order a large bowl of vegetable stew with a side of potatoes. Grey Wolf, as a habit, always ordered steak.

Amelia, disregarded their own apparently habitual bickering, looked to Nightshade.

"I'm curious," she said. "If you're from the North, how did you find your way here? You're a long way from home."

Nightshade smiled and looked at Tiger and then at Fang "Well you see we got here from our business we train monsters. OF course every now and then we enter tournaments but we had just gotten done training a monster and heard of this town. So needless to say we got here and well I'll admit we may have some money and all but it does you no good when your lost" He ordered a milkshake and that was it. Fang on the other hand along with Tiger both ordered steaks and some fish "But what brings you here?"
