Otherworld Outcasts [OOC]

Merlot's Bar lies deep in the shady recesses of the magical world. It's patrons are the scariest, creepiest, and most dangerous beings on this plane of reality. Tourists stay away and the weak hide in fear, because only the tough and brave can enter here. Walk inside and you'll find wicked step-mothers, cursed princes, bridge goblins, and angry giants. Oh, yeah... and you.



Rules:

• No godmodding or power-playing. Only give your character a reasonable amount of power, and give every character plenty of flaws.

• Romance & violence are both allowed, to an extent. If it gets out of control, or overly pointless, the bouncer will kick your characters out.

• Each player is allowed up to 3 characters.

• Keep your characters creative and original. Your character should be different from everyone else's in both appearance and personality. We don't need 16 blond elves.

• Enjoy yourself and feel free to be a different as you want.

Races:

Witches/Wizards - Humans who can use 'magik'. Witches draw their power from the earth and they believe that magic should never be used to hurt another, only to protect yourself. Witches who have gone bad are called Sorcerers.

Sorcerers/Sorceresses - Humans who use 'sorcery'. Sorcerers typically draw their power from the night and from celestial objects. They're known for their powers of transformation and cursing.

Necromancers - Priests that preform powerful and terrible death magic. This usually involves raising soulless un-dead minions.

Vaudun Priests - A type of sorcerer that specializes in voodoo.

Elves - Beautiful human-like beings with pointy ears and acute senses. They're deeply tied to the earth, particularity forests, and able to preform some magic. Elves are inhumanly strong and fast.

Faeries - Known as the 'Gentry' or the 'Fair Folk', faeries are mischievous by nature. They are incapable of lying, and they are weak to iron. Faeries come in many forms. (For more information see the Faerie Wiki.) ((This may be any European faerie.))

Goblins - Gnarled little creatures that typically inhabit bridges and wells. They're greedy and they love riddles.

Dwarves - Human-like beings with acute senses that stand between three-foot and four-foot tall. They're known for their craftsmanship and their long beards. Dwarves are inhumanly strong.

Giants - Human-like beings with acute senses that are usually 15-18 feet in height. Giants like living in high elevation. Merlot's has a large outdoor eating area to accommodate giants.

Vampires - Blood-drinking beings that can't stand sunlight or garlic. Vampires cannot cross running water or be seen in mirrors, and they can't tolerate holy items. Fire reduces them to ash. Merlot's supplies bottled blood for vampires.

Shape-shifter - Some shape-shifters can turn into any animal, some can only turn into one. Any shape-shifter whose change is tied to the lunar-cycles is known as a 'Were'.

Yōkai - Monsters and spirits from the far-east. These beings come in many different forms. (For more information see the Yōkai Wiki.)((This can be any far-eastern monster.))

Physical Description:
Merlot is short, haggard, and old. His long white hair extends from a receding hairline, and his eyebrows are bushy enough to house small animals in. One of his eyes are sightless from a fight with a banshee, and the other is a creepy sea-green.

Merlot can often be seen wearing a cloak or a robe, and he usually wears a pendant as well as several rings.

History:
Merlot's past is vastly unknown. He opened his bar about 15 years ago and kept the riffraff at bay with his creepy smile ever since. He's a good bartender and host, as long as you don't cause trouble, but if you tick him off then you'll find more than just alcohol in your drink.

Physical Description:
Caoime is one of the loveliest faces in Merlot's. Her long dark hair is always braided and her pretty eyes are framed by thick dark eyelashes. However, don't let that pretty face fool you, because behind it is the personality of a pit viper. If you mess with Caoime she'll probably bite your face off.

History:
Caoime's much older than she looks, but still young in elf terms. She was born and raised in a forest, and lived there for nearly 100 years. Finally, Caoime set off into the world to explore, but she settled down after she began working at Merlot's. Aside from her cruel personality and her love of animals not much is known about her.

Physical Description:
Myrm might be short, but he's no weakling. 3'5 and 167 pounds of pure muscle, this guy wont allow any destruction of the bar or harassment of the barmaids. He rarely washed his mess of wiry orange hair and beard, so he kind of smells, and he can almost always be found sitting in a corner with a wood-cutter's axe.

History:
Myrm is well known as some of the best muscle-for hire around. He used to be a blacksmith, but decided on entering the bodyguard profession after a few years of metal-pounding. He's been working as Merlot's bouncer ever since their last bouncer was sent to the hospital with 15 broken bones.

Physical Description:
Canjie is just like any other cat. Well, except for her ability to use magic and talk. Actually, she isn't very much like other cats at all. Her long fur is always clumped and matted from getting drunk too often, and she usually wears a tail ring or a pentacle necklace. She doesn't get along well with most people, but she and Merlot are close friends.

History:
Canjie's birth name was Maeva. She was abandoned as the child of a prostitute and adopted by roaming gypsies. She learned magic from traveling witches and wizards, but went bad in her thirst for power. She became powerful, one of the strongest sorceresses in the world, and her name was feared by every man, woman, and child. However, in her power Maeva became arrogant. She believed herself indestructible, and so she was reckless.

One day Maeva was preforming a simple cursing spell, she added a few wrong ingredients to her cauldron, said some incantations out of order, and turned herself into a cat. The spell was inconceivably powerful, and could only be undone by strong faerie magic, so Maeva sought help from the Faerie Queen.

Upon seeing the great sorceress Maeva turned into a cat, the Faerie Queen burst into laughter. Instead of helping Maeva, she cursed her, because of her wicked life and actions. The Queen laid a spell of immortality on Maeva so that she would be forced to live forever in the form of a cat. After that Maeva changed her name to Canjie and disappeared from the world. The name Maeva became little more than distant legend.

Physical Description:
She has heterochromia which makes one of her eyes blue and the other one green both of which are framed in long black eyelashes. A pale heart shaped face she has full pink lips with a slender neck. At a height of 5'8 she has a very curvy figure with long legs delicate hands and feet. Her ebony hair is down to her mid back and waves in slight curls when left to do it's own thing

History:
Nova's mother stole her away from her father hiding them when she was a young girl so she never really got to meet her father. They lived in a village for a long time with her mother, a high ranking elf, trading things like milk and eggs to make a living. One day she accidently insulted an old hag who then turned and cursed Nova into being a 'were' shapeshifter. Sense that moment Nova had turned into a panther every night that the moon comes along though she can turn into any animal. It is always a panther around the full moon.

Nova left her mother's side when she was 17 to travel the world. She wanted to see things and with her ability to shapeshift she..well she made a good deal of fortune stealing things from people and for people. She is a very crafty theif not only because she is sneaking and flexible but because her eyes make people stare her down while someone else can rob them.

Accepted as lond as you change race to say Werepanther.

It's just easier that way.

Physical Description:

Ah, Prince Charmless, how to begin.
No bard has ever been able to quite describe his scent, but maybe the stinky lines in the drawing will give you an idea. His hair is the colour of rotten hay, and smells fifty times worse. He doesn’t bother brushing it much – much as in, not at all – so naturally it’s always in complete disarray. No, hygiene is not one of his strong points, but hey, what can the poor guy say. (“Well, he can get a bloody job,” his mother, the Queen often reminded him.)
Because Charmless is too lazy to buy new clothes, most of his adventurer outfit is about a size too small. Years of drinking beer, going to wild parties, and crashing through the untamed wild do not complement his already shoddy attire.
Facially, he has a bit of a snub nose and a slight under bite. No battle scars though: he’s too cowardly to fight a dragon, or even a warthog for that matter. His sword is about as sharp as a pair of children’s safety scissors and too small for him (he got it from the discount bin.)

If you kiss Prince Charmless he turns into a frog. He calls it a ‘physical disability’ and is very sensitive about it.

Equipment:

Charmless wears a broken, faded gold crown that he pried the jewels out of long ago to sell for booze money. He carries a stumpy sword, a bottle of whiskey, a pack of cigarettes, an empty wallet, and wears big stompin' boots (one of the only items he owns that he is proud of.)

History:

Prince Charmless was born utterly Charmless. Even as a baby, he was constantly screaming and crying. It was said that on the day of his birth, when the three good fairies came to bless him, he pooped in the middle of the ceremony and everyone just left. The evil fairy (who came to curse the new Prince) saw the whole ordeal and said “No waaay man. I don’t need to curse yo kid, you got enough on your hands,” and also left. The evil fairy was very smart-alecky, and appears from time to time in Charmless’s life to give him sass.
And his life continued like that, until eventually people realized he was the ‘bum’ of the royal family. At 25, he was still living at home, in the castle, so his parents kicked him out and told him ‘to get a job’. He flipped burgers at White Castle, for awhile, but when he overheard a young adventurer talking about slaying a dragon and rescuing the beautiful princess, he put on his stompin’ boots and decided to really DO something with his life.

Three years later, that something turned out to be drinking beers at scummy dwarven taverns. His mom still writes to him, telling him to get a real job, like a lawyer or an accountant, but he always uses the ‘I’m on a quest to save the princess’ excuse. (“Darling, you’ve been doing that for three years.”)

Personality:

Prince Charmless loves the ladies, but he has a bit of a problem. When someone kisses him, he turns in to a frog. You think that would stop him, but it doesn't. He is known for some of the worst one-liners in history. He's a lazy, easy going guy who has a sense of humor. He can get pretty offended sometimes, so don't tell him he's a bum or comment on his beer belly.

Physical Description:
Appearing as a young, barely-human woman, Zerlina is tall and willowy, with pale, clammy skin that holds almost no temperature. Her hair is black and lank from lack of maintenance, and her eyes are two narrow slits of startling silver. She wears nothing but black, usually gowns that trail on the floor and pick up all kinds of dirt and slime. More often than not, she's soaking wet or covered in gunk, looking like she's just crawled out of a swamp.

History:
Zerlina first encountered sorcery at age 15, when she offended a sorceress at an open-air market. The sorceress placed a curse on her that would require her to consume blood, human or animal, to survive. She was made an outcast, hidden away by her family and abhorred by the townspeople of her little village, until a poor farmer boy took pity on her and befriended her. Friendship turned into love, and he eventually married her.

His farm grew prosperous, and so did his little family--Zerlina gave birth to a son, and a daughter came soon after--but with his wealth came an increasing tendency to control everything Zerlina did. One day he passed a street swindler peddling a 'cure' for bloodlust, and he bought it and slipped it into her drink, telling her about it after she drank it.

She was furious at him for attempting to take away what she'd come to view as her source of individuality and escape from mundane life, so she went on this big giant rant about all the things she's been doing right under his nose to get him back for being a control freak (she slipped pigeon shit into his food regularly, she poisoned his ale to make him sick, she purposely messed up their kids' upbringing--their son became a serial killer and their daughter had a very severe self-mutilation problem). Finally she finished with telling him it's unwise to trust street vendors selling miracle cures, and she sucked all his blood and killed him. (Pssh, yeah, some cure.)

In her bitterness and loneliness, she took up sorcery herself, and has been tormenting people ever since.
