For those of you who are still with me I thank for continuing this silly idea, which has expanded from a 1x1. I apologize for the halt for awhile but I am now fully capable of being available when needed. Part 2 of Neko Genesis will be longer then Project 26. I will be introducing a new race as this one continues, and those who are Neko have a choice to convert their character when the time comes. To those interested in joining us, Reprogression OOC
Reprogression
Neko Genesis

And so five months has passed since the Neko escaped the halls of lab 26. The mass media spread the rumors of them being 'diseased' individuals that carried a rather deadly plague. Advising all citizens to be aware of those around them and to contact the police if one of these beings are discovered. However some humans even went to sign up as voluntary bounty hunters to take down this population further. While children were being taught more excessively to avoid strangers because a variety of diseases and potential dangers. For populations who believed this was just a government conspiracy to maintain a level of fear making them think they need a protector, they continuously said murderers were from gang activities. Even when faced with picture evidence it was to blurry to make positive assumptions, and the live witnesses were to busy panicking thinking that the disease was amongst them.

Some Neko still tried to hide within the populations and make a life as a casual citizen, which actually worked in some cases. For those who got into jobs before the wide media alert had a good reputation with that general area and did not look suspicious. However those that are heavily influenced by their animal instincts this was more difficult on them. For every random outburst they had would build suspicion on them. But the fact was, Neko were indeed amongst the people, but most of them just avoided the humans and took what they needed by force. Crime rate naturally rose in major cities for the fanatics thinking the world was ending, making it even easier for Neko to survive in the midst of trouble where everyone was equally suspicious. It was even common for a Neko to actually join gangs where they were taught how to use different weapons and robbed places with average humans.

The other alternate of survival was to get into packs. Packs consisted of a concentrated population of Neko who served much like a gang. Every now and again they would pull in human children and raise them as members. In these packs Neko would resort to violence and force, any weaponry used against them they would take and learn how to use themselves. Though the packs were a lot slower on learning the weaponry they did not have to restrict their true potential, for the only humans with them knew what they were and kept it secret. They never bother stealing money, for that is unnecessary for their actual survival. Packs gave up on trying to join in as part of civilization and just go by their own free will. However, these were bigger targets for the Trackers to find and eliminate, including the human allies.

However the Neko population has less than a quarter of the original amount, with numbers still decreasing. Any who try to surrender are immediately executed for the troubles a pure pleasure of the Tracker. A rare few try to stand against the threat hoping to end the slaughter once and for all. The dreams of the grandfather slowly crumbling away as the government is getting back control of the scenario. The smarter ones even failed at their attempts trying to show that they have the right to survive under the Constitution, however Neko are counted as beasts, and the rights of freedom only apply to humans. Either way, they were branded as diseased so no human would ever support them. The stronger ones tried to kill the government figures but failed horribly. The last ones remaining to try and fight for freedom were those who waited in the shadows, slowly plotting, or the ones who barely have any control of their sanity and are trying to hold out until the time is right.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Trackers, continuously gaining fame with the surrounding population as saviors still hunt for the Neko remaining. Their numbers only fell to twenty two members, the only loses were results of them killing each other. Word about the Trackers went global as they were presented as an independent society to counter the new plague. People marvel at them as heroes that have come to save civilization from the horrible threat. Though people directly in contact with them have much fear, the population as a whole has respect for them. Most places offer free services to any Trackers that come through. They will even give free services to the creatures that separate the Trackers from the others.

Minor groups of civilians see this as another plot of the government to provide a fear, thinking that it is all a lie. These are the population of human who despise the Trackers and never are inclined to help them. Groups of humans have forged to try and prove the Trackers are nothing more then mere people taking glory for events that never actually happened. Though this general population is low because the amount of fear the Trackers force onto those who appose.

The government itself begins to fear the power of the Trackers as they grow with the population. So parts of the military refuse to work unless it is with the Trackers. While others remain loyal, these are the ones who every now and again turn against the Trackers and attempt to kill them before to much power is gained. Quickly the government states that the soldiers acted on free will and has no intention of harming any of the members. Tracker 1 keeps the others to stay on the current mission and only eliminate immediate threats. Though rumors spread that he has sworn that he will appose the government when the current threat has been neutralized and rule the people as the biggest world power. With this rumor spreading through the media across the globe, other countries began a race for technology. Fear rising around the world that the Trackers would be the global rulers.

Maboroshi walked along the streets his cap tucked down to his head tightly. He remained alone for this long, and thats how he wanted to keep it. If he could just stay hidden from the Trackers, eventually he would find a way to win. His track of mind quickly went blank as he heard the TV at a nearby booth start talking about resent attack from the infested. He stood on his toes to peak over the group of people hanging around watching the news broadcast. "Last night there was an interruption at the concert in the central park. It is believed one of the plagued humanoids we have heard so much about was the cause of all this ruckus. However this picture from an audience member was the only thing was received. Due to him being on the run the picture is not clear." Maboroshi pushed closer to the TV, seeing a white blur attacking the lead singer of the group.

"Thats not fair!" He exclaimed from his random outburst, " Those bastards were being too loud!It was hurting my ears what else was I supposed to do?!" Four casualties and twenty six injuries was the message that went across the bottom of the screen. Then the small group turned to all stare at him with terrified expressions. "Well.. Uh.. I got a little carried away?" He chuckled stupidly, noticing what exactly was occurring. The group quickly ran in eight different directions screaming that he was an infected at the tops of their lungs.

And so Maboroshi quickly rushed towards the nearest alley, cutting as many corners as he could. Blindly rushing down the system of alleys just trying to get away. About twenty minutes later he finally stopped running because he was back on the streets and people were just looking at him strangely. Suspicion was the very last thing he needed, and now because of that stupid outburst he had to make his way to the next town.

Zero's brown ankle boots thudded rhythmically down onto the concrete asphalt. Her guns rested peacefully in their holsters, ready and waiting to be brandished in battle. A pair of paws padded along beside her feet, belonging to a gallant, ivory canine with a few orange markings on its body. It stopped in its tracks and tilted its head upwards. "What is it, Amate?" Zero asked as her eyes were cast down briefly at the wolf. Nearby screams alerting others of an infected caught her attention. "Let's move!"

The white-haired young woman ran in the general direction everyone was running from, Amaterasu bounding by her side. Her slender digits readied themselves by her belt. She paused for a moment, to eye the scene and see where the Neko might have run off to. She had been doing this most of her life, this was all routine to her. She knew she had to keep a cool head, think straight and formulate a plan. It was the best way to get it over and done with.

The blur she caught in her periphery was enough for her. Somewhat sprinting, she slowed as she neared the corner. She needed to be silent .. stealthy .. Her palms brushed the wall as she got closer and closer. Her fingers clenched into a fist, preparing herself as she skidded across into plain sight, only to find .. Her prey wasn't there. "Tch! I lost 'em," she said in a disappointed tone, Amaterasu walking up to her heel.

"I guess I'm not as sharp-sensed as Nee-san, huh?" Amaterasu tiled his head in response. Zero smirked.

Maboroshi walked along the sidewalk, the only thing he was certain of, was if he continued in one direction he would eventually get out of this city. Lowering his head every time he had to pass through a crowd of people. Not with the intention of trying to hide his appearance, just the fact that he could hear every single one of their conversations simultaneously which made his ears hurt. Driving him even more insane when he had to wait for the walk sign to light up so he could cross the streets.

Things were slowly going back to how the humans once lived since the Neko population was steadily dropping, the only real difference is the Trackers roaming around freely. Maboroshi could only see it how it really was, the murderers were the only ones allowed to live peacefully in this world. While the innocent ones were being hunted. His state of deep thought was obvious for those who looked into his face just got a blank stare and emotionless expression. He knew it was impossible to beat the Trackers. But even if only one Neko could survive freely in this world Grandfather's death would not be in vain.

Laughter is what brought him out of his state, making him look up at the couple walking in front of him. Neither one could have been much older then him. The boy smiling stupidly, scratching at the back of his head. The girl's cheeks were pinkish from her slight embarrassment. However neither seemed regretful, and in the end they both smiled at each other. Maboroshi knew he was alone, fighting in what seemed like a battle that would never end in victory. Companionship was not something he would ever learn about or experience. To make any connections was another weakness that would lead to his death. Usually these younger humans were off the streets attending school, however they managed to get two days off out of every seven. Every city was the same, a little after the sun hit its highest point the streets would be filled with the young in uniforms. Couples just like this, taunting Maboroshi about his loneliness of survival. Even more, he was hurt by watching the bigger groups that went everywhere together, laughter and happiness following their trail.

Again before he realized it he was snapping back to the real world, the last of the buildings were behind him. Walking down a long empty road with the occasional car passing by. Hitchhiking was something he picked up in the past two months after observing humans that were traveling by foot. Maboroshi paused by the side of the road and extended out his arm with his thumb pronounced into the air. Eventually a red truck came to a stop and he pushed himself into the cab. The green lights on the radio said 4:56. Following the normal ritual, remembering from the first day he attempted this. "Mind dropping me off at the next town? I don't have any cash, sorry.."

The man smiled, "Cash or not, it does not matter, I was heading out that direction any ways. Besides, I can't leave a youngster on the side of the road.. That city back there was tagged with the plague last night you know, so the mighty Trackers are coming in to take care of the issue. Everyone may want to meet them, but we don't want to get in the way of their work now do we?" He chuckled softly, looking down at the time as well. "We should arrive at the next town by sundown, hope you have a place for the night there kid."

Living in a world, where no one really wants you around. A place that everyone thinks you are some kind of disease there to eliminate humanity. Is it really right to survive in such a place, or is it just a burden on the very thing you want. Just because the Neko live in this world people fight and argue, and all they wanted was freedom to live in peace. Would the races every truly coincide with one another, and build as a civilization. Would this extermination of the race continue until absolutely nothing is left? To live in a place where one can not make any friends in worry that they will be betrayed by them, is it actually even safe to have acquaintances in such a place? Will one Neko ever be able to live as himself freely, not hiding anything from the world?

"Hey kid..? Kid!" Maboroshi popped awake, looking out the windshield at the still picture. The truck was at a stop in a residential area, apartment complexes on both the left and right side of the street. " We are here kid, this is where I let you off." Again, he expressed his gratitude with the casual 'thank you' before hopping out of the truck. His legs wavered from the impact, not fully awake. "Take care of yourself alright?" The truck's tail lights disappeared in the distance rather quickly. And if he read the clock correctly it said 8: 24 but it was much to late to double check.

He walked along the sidewalk, a rare person passing by on the other side of the street every now and again. A while later he saw a little kid playing in the street, writing on the road with a piece of chalk. Maboroshi continued walking on, ignoring the child. But he spun around when he heard a loud engine from a car, definitely speeding for a residential zone. The headlights peaked over the hill and ran down the street quickly. Maboroshi forced his legs awake as he ran an barely managed to tackle the kid out of the way. Not opening his eyes until he felt a tug on his ears. The kid was on top of him without a scratch, the car missed them both. But Maboroshi looked up to see his cap on the ground. He quickly shot up feeling the tug on his ear pull even harder. "You have puppy ears!" The child giggled in his high pitch voice, "Can I keep you!?" The boy giggled even more, letting go of Maboroshi's ear and instead grabbing his hand. "Come on puppy man!"

"My name is Maboroshi not puppy man!" He growled in the boys face, ignoring the retrieval of his hat for the moment. But when the boy swelled up in tears he lowered his head in defeat. A kid's tears were truly incapable of winning against.

The boys teary eyes immediately cleared, making him hop forward circling his arms around Maboroshi's neck. "I am sorry Mapporshi, its because I pulled your ear isn't it?" His head sank even lower hearing the boy miss pronounce his name. "Kuro will be good to puppy-eared Mapporshi now." He pulled away from Maboroshi and gave a childish grin. "No more mad puppy!" This kid could not be more then six or seven the idea that he was out alone was bewildering.

The door of the closest house flew open as a women walked out. "Kuro what on earth are you thinking being out thi...." Her sentence cut off as her porch light flicked on revealing the wolfish ears even more. She ran over and tore away the kid, retreating back to the house. "Its one of the infected! They were trying to steal our poor innocent boy!" Her voice echoed through the house, probable calling for the father of the boy. She turned when she entered the door way, pointing back at Maboroshi. "Stay away from Kuro you.. you.. Monster!"

Maboroshi had no choice, he quickly scooped up his hat and made a run for it. His distance from the house quickly greatened. He just arrived in this city and already the worst possible thing was beginning. The only good news was that since it was so late the chances of any Trackers showing up was low, as well they would be searching the areas with the most reports, not one minor report that only had one witness. " I should be alright in this city.. For a little while longer.." Breathing heavily, he entered a park and laid down on one of the benches. His eyes quickly closing to put him asleep.

Arran yawned as his feet shuffled slowly down the street, it had been tough recently with the crackdown on the so called "plague" and the trackers slowly thinning down their numbers, it was only a matter of time before they were on his trail again, yawning again as he sat down at a park bench, Arran looked around at his environment, "Everything here seems so happy and carefree but...even if there is one of us here, doesn't give us time to relax..."thought Arran watching the children playing tag happily before pushing his hat onto his head more firmly, "Since everyone escaped from the lab, a lot of us have managed to avoid the trackers on various occasions, myself included..."reminiced Arran as he thought back to the time where the doctors had nearly figured out that he wasn't human, another neko had been outside the hospital with a tracker fighting over something, with a sigh, Arran shook his head trying to keep himself awake.

"Dammit, I can't go on like this, I need sugar...."whined Arran as he looked around and sure enough, there was a shop across the street, Arran's taste buds tingled with anticipation as he dragged his feet through the park and across the road, being especially careful with the road, "Don't want to get hit again and wind up in hospital..."thought Arran remembering the horrible experience, picking out a chocolate bar from one of the shelves, he eagerly put it up on the counter and paid for it with some money in his pocket, "If you want to survive in this world, you need green paper and to get green paper....you need to take it from the pockets of the humans...to take it from the pockets of the humans, you need to practise certain skills..."thought Arran who was notorious for pick pocketing humans in a few towns, with the money he stole, he managed to get by.

Biting into the chocolate bar as he settled back down on the park bench, Arran's body woke up fully, "Much better"giggled Arran before continuing to eat what was left, his ears twitched in anticipation beneath his hat, but not enough to be noticed by anyone, they longed to be free and feel the air, but it wasn't safe to do so anymore, having his tail hidden in his pants was uncomfortable enough, sitting back with a happy sigh of content, Arran continued to study the various humans in the park, "Know your enemy..."thought Arran, remembering the girl who taught him how to survive in this world, she may not have been a neko like him, but she respected him for being just like her, homeless and alone in this world, "She just didn't know about the "plague" at the time...but even when she found out, she stayed by my side..."thought Arran happily as he sunk into memories of a happier time.

Re: Reprogression (Neko Genesis) {IC}

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Kravos on Mon Oct 18, 2010 6:22 pm

((OOC: Now moving to the next day.))

It was rather early in the morning, perhaps half an hour before the sun would rise. Maboroshi was awakened by a nightstick prodding at his side. "Get out of here bum, this bench is not your bed." However he rolled to far and fell off the bench, staring up at the police officer. The man was well past his twenties, probably mid to late thirties judging from his face, one brow raised as he looked down at the Neko. "Your just a kid, what are you doing out in the street?" The officer obviously did not actually want an answer, just speaking his mind blankly. "Either way, you can't stay here. I don't care how crappy your life is, get it together. How ashamed would you feel if a Tracker saw you like this when they are trying to protect you?"

"Sir, we searched the entire park, we have not found any body. Could the guy have left the body in a ditch somewhere?" Another officer walked over, completely ignoring Maboroshi and speaking the the officer above him. "Do you think this can actually even be the same guy you arrested two weeks ago?"

The first officer, a higher rank apparently spoke again, his expression turning to a deep anger. "It has to be, the guy escaped last night.." The two walked off leaving Maboroshi on the ground simply confused. All he gathered was that there was a murder and they were automatically blaming a guy for it because he escaped from jail. Human patterns made absolutely no sense, there wasn't even proof of their assumption from what he heard.

He brushed himself off as he stood and began walking away. His mind still set to the police officers talking about a body. Apparently crime rates were up in this city, perhaps it actually wouldn't be safe to stay here for long. Clenching at his stomach, his feet came to a halt. A growl associating with the pain, pleading for nourishment. First thing was first however, he needed food. But for food he needed that paper dollar things people used to get everything. Then again Maboroshi found a way around that green dollar factor, because there was always a stockpile of food in giant cans that were usually in alleys.

The sun was constantly irritating him as he walked along the sidewalks in the city, eying the alleyways for overflowing cans. He was in front of a store when he first caught wind of a familiar voice. It was crying out wanting to see its 'mommy and daddy.'. Familiar cries that were once heard in the labs. Acting on instinct he followed the voices down an alley until he had to stop in font of a window. Layouts for buildings were even more confusing, humans put windows pointing into alley ways every now and again. It made things much to easy for the common thief. The dim light poured into the alley through thin curtains. Maboroshi swung his head back and forth trying to see through the crack between the curtains. Sure enough he saw a boy with bruises inside, one that he had only met recently, Kuro. He took a few steps back, and looked through the alley for a metallic rod, since he came this far, he could not just let someone suffer. The man's voice was quiet, but the words were still clear to Maboroshi. This man was having enjoyment from this boy's suffering and pleads. Just like those damned white coats.

"Shirara! C'mon buddy wait up!" Called a young voice, the padded sounds of paws trekking through the lush park echoed through the night sky. Another hunt, another kill... When will it all end? Their existence was supposed to be kept under lock and key, but why now? Why were they being announce to the world as it playthings?.. The young girl could not fathom an answer. A quick grumble from her companion told her to rush in her steps.

God was truly against them...

Oh wait, since when was Mana a believer of the great divines? Daddy didn't in them right? So why should Mana ever believe in something daddy didn't believe. Not that she plainly give a damn anyway, she was too tired to care now a days. The infestation... As the higher ups nicknamed the fuck up they made. Of course they always leave the clean up to them. How long had that been? Oh yeah, five freaking month, in those months they lost a few comrades but, not as worse as the Neko's. God... How stupid can human get?

A gentle nip on her skirt soon draw her out of those thoughts. The white wolf stared at his partner, for days the young girl seemed so out of it. The cheers of the pathetic humans as they call them their savior. By the heavens the wolf barely controlled himself from emptying his stomach. His partner, no doubt felt the same. Humans were so easy to manipulate... Like a couple of mice being led to believe there's cheese at the end of the tunnel, while all it contained was poison. Truly the idiocy of the human race astounds him sometimes. Uuuuuuu.... Wonder what daddy has planned? Mana wondered, a smile formed in her delicate lips as she thought of the first tracker. True, she didn't really know if the man was even her dad. She knew nothing before her time in the labs aside from a few flashbacks here and there... But nothing really solid for the young girl's liking....

"Huh?? Oh yeah, did I space out again Shirara?" The young girl innocently asked.

"..." The wolf blinked, exasperation glowed in its red orbs before.... He phailed comically on the soft grass. Yes folks a freaking wolf that has a record of being merciless actually phailed at the mere innocence of his partner. Oh, happy day... "What? Can't a girl
visit her land of dreams every now and then?" The young girl retorted. To that the wolf merely sighed. No sense getting into an argument with the girl. She never listens anyway. Shirara whined, nipping at the girl's dress as if to say 'forget it.' "Fine.." The young girl pouted childishly.

Ah, the hell... Focus child. We have a mission to complete. Shirara finally spoke through their link. The very same link both man and beast shared at the moment of their creation. But it's only to hunt down a rouge.... She whined. Daddy never did like it when she's childish. But she couldn't help it!

Maboroshi put his back against the wall across from the window. Running at a full sprint and throwing himself at the glass. The pain of glass shards stabbing into his body almost made him yelp out. However he didn't even have time to think before his body slammed into the ground throwing everything out of focus. Stumbling to his feet, recklessly charging at the man who was running for a nearby desk. The man just barely managed to open a drawer and pull out a gun before he was hit on the side of his head by the metallic pole. The gun shot rang out as the man went down. At first Maboroshi thought he was actually hit, then he turned to look at the boy, lastly he looked down at the man to see the bullet hole going through the bottom of his chin and exiting through the top of his head.

He only took a few steps back, making sure the Kuro could not see the body. "Mapporshi! You came to save me!" The kid grinned widely as his eyes met with Maboroshi's. "Good puppy! Now we need to get home.." Again, the Neko's appeared defeated by the young boy. He untied the ropes and picked up the boy, jumping back through the window. The boy wiggled around to much so Maboroshi put him back down forcing him to walk alone. However the boy insisted in holding his hand as they walked, it was pointless to even try to resist. When children had their mind set then there was no real way to try and change it. Which would make it even harder for Kuro to understand that he could not be around Neko. Humans should only live happily around other humans until the races can actually be free.

The feeling of responsibility was heavy on him as he walked with Kuro. It would not be right for him to abandon the boy and leave him vulnerable to another man that wishes only harm. If he could ensure the boy's safe return then it would be less of a heart ache for the parents. But to think he was kidnapped between late last night and early this morning. Either way, once this was over Kuro had to stay away from him. And so Maboroshi began explaining to the boy exactly what he was, and how relating to him might result in death by Trackers. The fact that his kind had to remain in hiding, the only thing keeping them between death and life is a simple hat to hide their secret. Even with cutting the story short, it didn't end until they were in front of the house from last night. This time the boy pulled Maboroshi onto the porch and rang the door bell.

The door opened slowly, the women was the first visible face. Her eyes were filled with tears but a smile was across her face when she saw her son. Time was moving slowly as if every moment was the last. The interior of the house became more revealed as the door's gap widened. The police officer was inside looking at Maboroshi, his eyes contained similar tears. The tears of a worried father for his lost son, it was not mistakable, so that explained the assumption by the police. A natural desire for revenge pointed to the man's son. The Neko's eyes widened as he felt an arms go around his back from the mothers embrace, her only words repeated. "Thank you.." The father disappeared from view for a moment and then came back up holding Maboroshi's hat out, which had apparently fallen off due to the mother's forced grip. Both, mother and father, fully aware that he was not a normal human. But neither one showed signs of worry. "Join us for dinner, then we all can talk." Maboroshi nodded, accepting the hospitality, perhaps with these people, it was alright to be himself.

Takeru sucked heavily on his cigarette, savouring the foul tasting smoke that sat happily on his tongue, before blowing it out, a thick, black, cancerous plume of bliss.

His eyes darted from building to building as he walked at a leisurely pace along the deserted street. He was looking for any sign of one of them... This street had been deserted ever since there was an attack here.

Another suck on his cigarette sharpened Takerus sense once more, as he came to a halt, dead in the centre of the street. His eyes were drawn to a nearby building, an old abandoned chinese takeaway. The windows were smashed through, and the inside of the place was upturned. This was odd, seeing as the rest of the buildings on the street were in perfect condition. The rest were simply abondoned, This place was trashed.

Takeru felt his chest heave as he let out one of his raspy "grunt-laughs".

"Well, looks like we found some action, Finally." He said to his partner, an elegant, sleek-furred Wolverine, Whos teeth were as thirsty for blood as a sponge is for water.

"No scent?" Takeru asked his beast, frowning slightly as he did so, his eyebrows almost meeting as they dipped down, crumpling his skin. "Well, they must have moved on. We'll just follow the trail.." He said, thoughts whizzing through his mind now, as he returned to scanning the street for anything suspicious.

After roughly 5 minutes of walking, He came to a stop, and his Wolverine came to an obedient stop beside him, waiting to be given an order.
"Fuck." Takeru said, His vocabulary clearly showing off its prowess.
He pointed ahead of himself, To a nearby bench, Where a figure was slumped back, seemingly relaxed. "I've got a bad feeling about this one." He said to his Wolverine, whose nostrils were flared, sniffing the air deeply.

Takeru felt that familiar, pleasurable grin sweep across his face, as he bent down, and unhooked the Smith & Wesson pistol that was holstered at his ankle.
He returned to his upright position, and toyed with the guns delicate metal framework, before placing it into his pocket, for easy access.

"You wait here." He said to his Wolverine, not taking his eyes off of the figure on the bench, "This is anomalous. Nobody relaxes around these parts anymore. Nobody."

And so, Takeru approached the figure on the bench, Only to talk,
Of course.

Never before had Maboroshi thought that he couldn't eat anymore. He took use of their hospitality and ate all he could, after all it was free and easy for him to get. However to find out all the details he had to wait for the mother to return to the table. Since the late lunch had just ended, she took Kuro upstairs to tuck him in. Her reasonings behind this was because he had been up all night, and he was probably tired from all the events. It was quiet, the man his left was a police officer that knew of his identity, but swore to keep silent about it. It was good that answers were finally coming, for he was filled with questions. How did they find out about the child's disappearance so quickly, why did they not act to surprised when their son came back? Those were just two of his smaller questions. This was his only chance to find out how much normal humans actually knew about the Neko and Trackers.

The mother finally returned, holding a box and laying in the middle of the table. The picture was purposely pointed in Maboroshi's direction. "Do you know what that picture is? Thats one of the few security cameras we have set up around the house. After my wife caught you with Kuro last night we looked over the footage to try and find out who you were. Instead we learned that you saved our boy from getting hit by a car, so it would be difficult to believe you were an ill-natured person. About two o'clock last night our adventurous son snuck out again. However this time a black car pulled up, and before we even knew, he was kidnapped. The squeal of tires brought me to attention and I ran outside trying to find out what happened. Rubber tracks were left on the road in front of our house so I immediately expected something was wrong. I searched the house, and couldn't find Kuro. After reviewing the videos I learned of his kidnapping. I called the police department where I learned a murderer I caught a couple weeks back managed to escape custody. We assumed searching the place he committed the last murder as the best option, which is where I ran into you this morning. After that we could not help but do pointless searches. Few hours later, we get report of a gunshot, so we quickly drove there to explore the scene. We checked with the business across the street and their cameras. Sure enough we saw you enter the alley then the chain of sounds, and you appeared on the street with my boy. I only realized you were the same kid from last night when I saw your ears." The man paused grabbing his cup of water.

Next the mother spoke, "And thats basically our side of the story.. But what we are interested in hearing is more about you. They said the infected were dangerous and pretty much evil, though obviously your not like that at all." The man nodded in agreement with his wife. "So what exactly is going on here? What are the Trackers for that matter?"

Hours passed, Maboroshi began by introducing himself, and then introducing the secret about his species and the halls of lab 26. He ranged from the last moment of grand father, to the governments attempt at hiding the escape. The mother seemed to grow more worried as he talked, but at least it was finally getting through to someone. And then he ended his story with how he got here, and about the news report in the last city. The man just chuckled, well aware of the band that played that night. "So it hurt your ears huh? I assume that you have keen hearing from a dog right?"

"A wolf actually... Our species couldn't really get over the sub groups until we finally escaped. And I really haven't seen another Neko since.."

The mother sighed deeply, as if she took all the information and set it aside for the moment. "Well.. Maboroshi.. If you want you can stay the night here, get a decent dinner, maybe a shower, and a good nights rest." The man looked confused for a second as if one of their plans just changed unexpectedly. She lifted her finger to keep him quiet before she explained herself. "We were originally planning to have you live with us here, and be like a brother to Kuro.. But it seems like you have a story you need to spread. Maybe its not to late for your kind to become a part of all our lives.." She gave him a sincere smile, the father accepting the fact and sharing the same expression.

A few hours had passed, and Maboroshi was getting dressed. The father of the household was kind enough to lend some of his clothes. However the situation that had occurred not but five minutes ago set an awkward mood. The breathe on the other side of the bathroom door was heavy from the startle. The Tesaka family, since he found out that was the last name of the three members, failed to mention they had a daughter at school. They also failed to mention to her that they had a guest, apparently. Because of this Maboroshi didn't go near the door, and the daughter never moved away from it possibly in shock. That is until footsteps could be heard coming down the hall. "Rei, when did you get home?" The mother's voice rang gently, followed by a laughter when no answer was made. "You met our guest huh? Don't worry, he is not as bad as the infected you here about. He saved your little brother you know."

The response voice was lighter then he would have guessed, and probably more quiet then she intended it to be. " Why didn't anyone tell me there was a guy here!? He even has a tail and ears!"

Again there was another awkward moment of silence before the mother decided to speak again. "Maboroshi.... You have a tail?" Her voice seemed almost puzzled, did the government seriously only release information about the ears? Wouldn't someone eventually find out that Neko have tails and begin questioning things? "Geez, you are like a little puppy aren't you?" Instead of only one faint giggle he heard two, great even the daughter was in on it. Never mind thinking these people would eventually turn him in, they were more likely to make him be a pet. At least the mother seemed like an intelligent person at times.

"Yea, it hurts quite a bit to hide it too. So if you don't mind, can I tear a hole in these pants?" Again it fell to silence, apparently conversations just could not build without that eerie silence. "You even said it, I have a story to share. Which means I can't really do anything if I sit back hiding all the time right?" The idea was building even more in his head, it was true, it was pointless to hide because it really would not help his case. It would only prolong his survival. "I was thinking, if I don't hide what I am and if I can continue to help people.. Then maybe I can get enough trust so my species can live here in peace."

The door slightly cracked open so the mother could pop her head in, "Well then Maboroshi, feel free to call is if you ever need help alright?" It was easy to hear the daughter run off as soon as the the mother began speaking. Yet another glimpse of the blonde hair from the mysterious daughter Rei of the Tesaka family. But now was not the time to be thinking of that, for one more question immediately rose, at the mother would be the one who could answer it. He always heard the phrase exchanged between people on the streets, it was usually affiliated with a series of numbers.

"Mrs. Tesaka? What exactly is 'call'?" The door flew open and she hit the ground, the same look of defeat that had taken Maboroshi many times before. Apparently this call thing actually was important to human society. Then to be able to adapt to this new way of living he chose he would certainly have to find out everything about it.

Watching all the kids had become tiresome after a while and Arran had even become a bit envious of the days that humans didn't know of the "plague's" exsitance, back then humans were a lot more casual and laid back, parents weren't so protective of their children so it was easy to join in with their small games and relax but...since the trackers and the experiments were found out, they were quickly picked out and alienated from society...at least untill the hunters got to them.

Arran yawned as it was getting late, nearly everybody had left the park by now, "I gotta find somewhere warmer to sleep..."Thought Arran slowly drifting off to sleep before his ears picked up footsteps, "Dammit..."thought Arran as he watched a man approach him, a warm smile graced his face much like he had seen his partner do many times before when confronted by anyone, "Good evening mister"Said Arran smiling at the man, "Is there something I can help you with?"asked Arran curiously, the way the man approached him showed no signs of danger or paranoia as most humans encountered on the streets this late at night, "He wants something....barely any humans would venture out this late with the 'plague' running amock..."thought Arran, he only hoped hiding behind the mask of what humans called a 'dirty orphan boy' would help disguise who he really was.

"Hello there." Takeru said, Lifting a hand in acknowledgement of the boy, as he let a small smile flitter across his face. "Is there room for two on that bench?" He asked the boy, Not really waiting for an answer before sitting down on the bench, and pulling a hipflask off of his belt, and taking a deep swig of the gin inside. He could feel the gin quickly spread through his body, providing a gentle warmth, that helped with the harsh, cold night.

"Its cold. Its late." Takeru said, not looking at the boy, but rather into the distance. "Whats a young boy doing stuck out in the cold at this time of night? Aren't your parents worried?"
As Takeru asked him this personal question, He looked into the boys eyes, and took note of the boys shabby appearance in his peripheral. Checking closely for anything suspicious. He was wearing a hat, perfect for hiding any ears he might have hiding under there. But Takeru couldn't simply yank his hat off, and scream "Aha!", Just in case he was wrong.

He took another deep swig from his hipflask, and smiled briefly at the boy, before leaning the flasks opening toward the boy, in a sort of offering.
"Want some?" He asked in a light tone, "It'll keep you warm."

He took this oppertunity to look at the boys pants. They were quite baggy, Baggy enough to conceal a tail, But then again, all the kids were wearing baggy pants these days, Usually near enough around their ankles, Boxers on show. Takeru felt himself shudder a little at the thought.

Oh how he hated the youth of the world.

Well, the world in general.

Mrs. Tesaka had Maboroshi sitting at the table with two cell phones, one was in front of him and the other was in the middle of the table. He was being taught how to 'call' people from no matter where he was. However they were at a loss when he told them how he really could figure out how the sequence of numbers work. That is, until the daughter Rei gave up her phone, even though her face never appeared in front of Maboroshi it was easy to tell she was sitting in the other room. The mother constantly went in there to talk to her, trying to figure out some way to do this, which is about when he got the purple cell phone. They told him to keep it at all times, and if he needed to call he just needed to hold down the middle button on the keypad. If he needed to call someone else, they taught him how to go through the contacts which he would have to make people insert their own numbers. The daughter had to end up erasing all the numbers she had when he started calling people while learning how it works.

To cut things shorter and make the household run smoothly, the father was in the other room explaining exactly what was happening. Maboroshi was thankful that his presence was not really that much of a bother to them. His tail freely dangled in the air, no pain of being scrunched up in his pants leg. His grin spread widely at the fact that he could finally enjoy himself. His eyes closed tightly as he began letting himself drift off into his own little world. A loud bang made him yelp loudly, as well as jump up and slam his chest into the table. When everything was going back into focus he could see a thick book on the table. That must have been what she meant when she said it was to keep him paying attention. Yet instead of them getting back to the cell phone things, the mother began giggling. "Maboroshi! You yelp too!? You seriously are a big puppy!"

Things got quiet for just long enough to hear footsteps barreling down the stairs and through the rooms. Maboroshi turned to see what it could be, and was greeted by a flying tackle from Kuro. "Mapporshi are you ok, did mean mommy be mean to puppy?" His eyes grew a lot wider then what should have been physically possible. A bead of sweat dropping down from Maboroshi's forehead noticing that the boy was in a state of awe from seeing the tail. He wanted to beg for mercy, and ask assistance from the mother but the father and mother were both holding back laughter. Being alone was a pain, but being alone in a situation like this was just pitiful. "Mapporshi has a tail!!!!!" The boy squealed, lurching forward and knocking the wind out of Maboroshi.

"Alright Kuro, let's get off our guest alright? Dinner will be done in a few so go wash up." The mother's help came way to late to save Maboroshi, but that was most likely on purpose.

Nothing... Absolutely zilch, The young girl lowered her binoculars a deep sigh escaped her lips. No nekos in sight maybe they abandoned this city? for their sakes she could only hope so. "Neh, Shirara wonder why we have to do this? I mean... If they're so scared of them why didn't they just nuke the city instead of getting us involve in the fight?" She spoked nonchalantly to the wolf. Golden orbs peered at the young girl from it's perched. Boredom... The young girl was deathly bored, the wolf could feel her restlessness like vile coming from the pits of hell. Nothing usually ends happily ever after when the young girl reaches a new meaning to the cursed word.

Curse, because he ends up doing the cleaning when the kid goofs up.

Sometimes he wondered if the girl was better off as a regular human. But... He knew that would be close to impossible. Trackers were breed killers. Trained in the arts of death, they knew no fear, no emotion, and most of all no heart. Yet some... Possessed a heart like his partner. But others... Choose to be known as the beast they were created to be. The ultimate fighting machine to ever grace the world. They were them....

The world's fear....

The Government's power.....

No one would dare stand in their way for fear of their lives. Humans... They created them, yet they fear them. It was amazing what a bit of power could do to the weak minded fools of society. Was that Number One's plan? God knows he barely knew the workings of the man's head. Not that he cared to think about it anyway.

"Focus child.... I smell none but we shouldn't chance these things." He growled back to the teen.

The young girl merely pouted in response. Another gift of being a tracker was to understand their partners. The young girl was no different. She understood her beast. For they were kindred spirits from birth. Their minds and hearts connected as one, they beat as one. Yet, both had different personalities. "Fine..." She mumbled before she got back to her perch. Night watch... How clearly epic. Wonder what the others were doing at the moment? She pondered for the last half hour. Surely the other trackers would be stuck doing something a bit more... Exciting than baby sitting a freaking city.

Arran smiled at the man as he sat down, even tough on the inside he was panicking, he managed to keep a straight face although his ears were quaking with fear beneath his hat, "Nobody is this nice to somebody who looks like an orphan...not unless they want something in return...though being a messenger boy can be rewarding." Thought Arran sullenly, watching the man take a swig from his hip flask before beginning to ask some questions.

"Mmmm...nah its not really that cold tonight" said Arran smiling brightly, though the chill of the night had reached Arran and he had begun to shake uncontrollably and his nose had even begun to bleed showing the beginning signs of hyperthermia, "My parents..."muttered Arran quietly trailing off as he looked away from the man,"I don't think my parents will notice that I'm gone any-time soon..."Said Arran sadly, hugging his legs to his chest trying to keep as warm as possible before the man offered his drink with the promise that it would warm him up.

Right now, Arran didn't care if the drink could be drugged or not, all he wanted was warmth, thanking the man quickly before trying a bit of the man's drink, Arran was surprised to find that the man wasn't lying, his body had begun to warm up, hoping the man wouldn't take the drink back, Arran begun to drink more vigorously, showing how cold he really was but soon enough, it was all too much for him, having not slept in what felt like forever and suddenly being warmer than he had been for a long time, Arran had fallen onto the man hugging his arm, fast asleep.

As the boy guzzled down the drink contained within Takerus hipflask, He couldn't help but cringe a little. The boy clearly had no home to go to. His skin was dirty, and rough, and he appeared to be on the verge on convulsing due to the cold. He drank down the drink with such rapid eagerness, that Takeru began to wonder how long it had been since the boy had last drank. Perhaps he was just a normal homeless orphan child. Not one of them ...

But the cap, and the baggy trousers, and the fact that he had nowhere to go. This boy certainly was suspicious.

As Takerus thoughts began to drift a little, he felt the boy slump against his arm. Repulsed, He turned his gaze to the boy, whose eyes were shut tight, suspending him in a deep sleep.

With a small groan, Takeru heaved the boy off of his arm, being careful not to wake him from his slumber. He stood up from the bench, and looked at the boy, who appeared undisturbed by the movement. Takeru was tempted to check the boy for a tail, or ears. But perhaps this wasn't the time, or the place.

He delved a hand into his coat pocket, and moved his fingers around the delicate silk lining, until he felt the tip of his finger stroke a cold metallic frame. Clasping his hand around the small ovular object, he pulled it out.

It was a tracking beacon. About the size of a small pea. He clicked the small red button on the side, and dropped it into the hipflask that lay next to the boy on the bench. With any luck, the boy would accidentally drink the tracking beacon along with the liquid, and not notice.

"Sweet dreams kid," Takeru said, grinning a little sadistically, before swinging around on his heels, and marching out of sight.
As he walked away, He pulled out the small GPS recieved he had in his jacket, and turned it on. And to his pleasure, he was greeted with a small red flashing light, showing the destination of the tracking beacon, in the park.

It was working. And now, he could find that suspicious kid, whenever he wanted to.

Maboroshi remained at the table, watching as the members of the family sat down one by one waiting for the meal. Each one already falling into their routine and having conversations with the other. Fifteen minutes passed and the food was given out, not a word was exchanged with him. Ten minutes later, he was finished eating and starred down the table at the family still nothing came to him. Whether he was here or not, it would not change their lives in any way. The family did not really need him to live on. That pain of loneliness began to come back, reminding him that no one would ever actually depend on him. No group or single person would care how he thought, or what he was feeling. Even if he could earn the freedom of his race, what was the point if they would all crumble in sorrow anyways. Dinner ended quickly that way, everyone laughing and smiling other than him.

The mother was collecting the dishes and putting them in the sink. When she finished she walked over to Maboroshi, "Come, I will show you your room for the night" Her smile was light and delicate, he knew that she was only doing so to be polite. He followed obediently up the stairs, and down the hallway. Entering the second room to the right where it was empty other then a single bed. "You should get some sleep, you mentioned that you never did sleep well. Though before you head off tomorrow, it would be preferable if you did get a good sleep." The door closed leaving him isolated in the room. It was reasonable, the Tenakas did not want their family fun to be ruined because of his presence.

There was no choice, he laid on the bed and watched the ceiling. He did not feel tired, but he did not want to intrude. The laughter from downstairs continued for what seemed an eternity. When everything began to die down he heard the other doors in the hallway open and close. Perhaps his greatest hope could never come true, none of those kids in uniforms would accept him. There would be no family to take him in as their child and trust him with doing things. Could he even affect anyones life in even the smallest way?

His ears twitched as he heard a door open, was that troublesome Kuro trying to sneak out again? To his surprise the foot steps came to a halt in front of his door leaving only a few seconds of silence before a knock on his door. "Maboroshi?" It was the daughter Rei, "I am coming in.." The door opened slightly as she peeked in her head. Noticing that he was indeed awake her entire body slid into the room. "I just came to say thanks.." Confusion was the only real thing on Maboroshi's mind. "My family hasn't gotten along so well in forever. I guess you helped bring the family closer.." So in a way his presence did bring benefit to this family, even though he did not really get what he desired most, he was able to bring happiness to those around him. "Sorry about my mother.. She gets strict on those she cares about.. So I think she was only worried about you going on your trip alone." The room may have been dark, but it was easy to see the smile she gave. "Stay safe for all of us alright?"

"Thanks Rei.." Maboroshi spoke softly, finally feeling tired. Probably because his mind was not really active, worrying about such small unnecessary matters. It really doesn't matter if he found what he wanted, because along the path he would be able to bring joy to others.

"Goodnight Maboroshi.." She walked back out the door, gently closing it behind her. The ones who attended these 'schools' were a lot more caring, just like how he originally thought.
