Amtophia Online was once a popular MMO fantasy game created by the Kencor company. The system was unique for the time because you could completely customize not only your character's race, sex, and appearance, but you could also select classes that were out of the norm for most RPG. Most players would choose the normal fighter or mage classes but those who were in need of a "mule" character either to carry items or earn gold for them, could choose the slave or merchant classes. This was a nice way for the software company to save on NPC creation. These mule characters had their own A.I. and would interact in the game even when not played.

Over time newer and better games would be created causing more and more of the players to cancel their accounts. When an accounts was cancelled the characters that were created would remain in the world of the game, their own A.I. would kick in. These characters would continue in their own virtual lives completely oblivious that they were in a game. For them this was the real world. Other than the initial feeling of amnesia when their creator logged off for the last time, they continued on with what was their normal life. They formed groups and guilds and went on quests for gold and glory. Overtime the A.I. would even write a back story for these orphan characters. They would have memories of growing up in one of the areas of this medieval styled world, filled with mysterious creatures and clans of murderous bandits. Almost all of them when not on a quest could be found in one of the cities' taverns and inns.

Now that subscriptions were at an all time low, KENCOR came to the realization that the game was not worth keeping active. On October 21, 2014 the software giant pulled the plug to the server.

The game was shut down and all their hard work lost or so they thought. One thing that these game designers had not realized they weren't just creating a game, but an alternate universe. These characters were no longer just NPCs controlled by sophisticate A.I.! They were real living beings trapped in this Dungeons and Dragon like universe.

Currently

The world as a whole is still in a state of amnesia and are now terrified by real rain pouring down from the skies and run seeking cover in their meager homes. The game has only been unplugged for less than 24 hours at this point and the program that was keeping the weather so pleasurable is no longer working. All they can think is they have somehow angered one of their many gods.

Physical Area: The Realm of Merrowvale covers an area of 1500 square miles. Of this, 42% is arable land, and 57% is wilderness.
Population: The Realm of Merrowvale has a total population of 50 thousand people.
Settlements: The largest City has a population of 5600 people, the second largest 450. There are approximately eight other towns of note in the kingdom. The remaining population lives in numerous small villages, isolated dwellings, farm etc.
Castles: The Realm of Merrowvale has 1 active castle and that can be found in the capitol Cabea.

Merrowvale was once a prosperous nation, but after the new King took control 10 years ago it has gone from bad to worse. There have been an increase in violence and criminal bands all over and all he seems to care about is collecting his taxes and throwing elaborate balls for other aristocrats. The majority of the population is Human, though other races are found in most of the villages.
Recently there has been talk amongst the people about finding a way to revolt against the nobles and put someone more trustworthy in command.

Physical Area: The Empire of Castynaia covers an area of 25 thousand square miles. Of this, 16% arable land, and 83% wilderness.
Population: The Empire of Castynaia has a total population of 360 thousand people.
Settlements: The largest city, the capital Orgate has a population of 9000 people, The majority of the remaining population live in Ogre Strongholds or Dwarven cities hidden below the ground.
Castles: The Empire of Castynaia has 7 active castles and 2 ruined. The active castles can be found in the capital city, the rest lay with Dwarven civilation concealed deep within mountains. The other 2 ruined one can be found far to the nearly frozen over north.

The Empire of Castynaia has the reputation for being one of the most rough places to live in all of Amtophia. The climate is cold and cruel. The smartest and most inventive residents the Dwarves, who have build there city far underground. They get the most protection from the weather and have their own political ways separate from the royal family in the cities above. They do come up to trade their wares and inventions. The most populous above dwelling race in the Ogres, whom keep mostly to their selves and only bother in an political affairs when their Chief of the stronghold is summoned by the King.
Despite being populated with some of the toughest walks of life, Castynaia is a generally peaceful nation. The biggest problem they face are the Dragonics and Bandits that have been bringing their slaving rings to their lands mostly to have working the numerous mines.

Physical Area: The Majestic Dominion of Albia covers an area of 24 thousand square miles. Of this, 50% is arable land, and 49% is wilderness.
Population: The Majestic Dominion of Albia has a total population of 50,000 people.
Settlements: The largest city has a population of 18 thousand people, this would be the Capital Dinius. The races vary vastly in Albia and there are many towns, villages, tribal camp and sub-dwellers.
Castles: The Majestic Dominion of Albia has 4 active castles, 2 are in the capital alone. The others reside in the next two largest settlements Caleah and Gareskali. There are approximate 3 others that are ruins from centuries past most buried in the desert to the north of the country.

Albia is the melting pot of the Amtophia world. The rulers are just, but still turn a blind eye to the hunting of elves in their lands, feeling that they make better servants than any other race. The fact that major power in the noble classes is held by Mages who meddle in darker arts doesn't hurt either. The population as a whole is well looked after though. They pride them selves on being well educated and many of the colleges for aspiring mages for found in the capital.
The landscape of Albia is also vastly different from the other countries as well. It ranges from Mountains rich for mining, to beautiful tranquil forest, to warm deserts.

Physical Area: The Great Realm of Crystalden covers an area of 19 thousand square miles. Of this, 16% is arable land, and 83% is wilderness.
Population: The Great Realm of Crystalden has a total population of 14 thousand people.
Settlements: The largest population is 8003 people in the capital Alora. There are few other towns, but numerous elven settlements with the Sacred Woods that cover the country.
Castles: The Great Realm of Crystalden has 1 active castle in Alora alone.

The main population in Crystalden is the elves, though fauns do call the Sacred woods here their home as well. The citizens once welcomed visitors in to study the druidic arts and white magic from them, but now have little trust for outsiders because of slavers favoring their people. The noble class are centuries old and maintain peace within their kingdom. This does not mean that they are a weak race in any means and will jump to battle should their lands be threatened.

Hi guys!!! Anita here!
I want make this a high fantasy storyline, but I also want to keep it entertaining. The best example I can give to the game world itself would be think of a Fable like world or Skyrim meets Final Fantasy VII. Also this is my first time making a rpg so I want to start small in the party size. I'm open to allow more characters after a few trial runs. I would like to add darker races and so forth to add more conflict to the "good" adventures.

Also this is an official redo of my first attempt at this, no posting until it is completely finished. I am going to incorporate the dice system, and leveling.

Toggle Rules

1. Be courteous! In game fighting and feuding is encouraged, because that make a story more exciting. Please remember this is a fictional game and nothing should be carried to OOC.

2. Posting actions should be written in past-tense third person. I'm not expecting novel length posts, but the post length should follow the current activities going on in the location that you currently in. So if the story seems to be moving quickly a few sentences are fine. On the other hand please try to be more creative than one word actions.
-Keep it entertaining!
-On another note please use the available chat features for speaking and actions. This will keep everything consistent and moving smoothly.

3. Once participating, please let myself or another member through the OOC forum or a PM if you want to quit or if you are going to be away for any length of time. This way we can retire your character or make up a reason why they are on hiatus.

4. Please no Mary Sue characters...Godmod, Bunny, or Meta.

5. I have no problem with characters developing a romance. I just ask please don't scar others and take it to pm if needed. This also would fall under my first rule.

Hope Froloss

"Seven bronze coins..." Hope muttered to himself, searching his pockets for money. Those goggles looked cool, and according to the merchant he would be able to increase his range by a bit, which would definitely be a help when it came to battle. Pulling out his pouch, Hope hurriedly checked to see if he had enough. Yup, he did. Grinning, Hope extracted the appropriate amount of money and handed it to Zeebarl.

"Here," he said happily, placing the coins into the dwarf merchant's hands. Once he was sure that the merchant wouldn't dropped the coins, Hope reached over towards the cart and took the goggles before walking away from the merchant; the transaction now complete. Stuffing the goggles into a pocket, he strolled towards Altara and the elf girl, coming to a stop a few feet besides them.

Curiously, Hope looked on as Richard repaired the items. The lights were really bright, but once you got past the initial blinding flash the results were actually quite pretty. He stared at them; entranced, and felt slightly sad when Richard finished repairing them and handed the items over to the dwarf merchant. Ah well, at least he got to see it.

Something seemed wrong, though. It seemed like the items weren't magical, and the merchant got duped. 'That sucks,' Hope thought sympathetically. Magic items were normally pretty expensive, and the merchant would get less profit. He might've even paid quite a lot for them too. The scammer must've been pretty good. 'Better luck next time, I guess.'

Turning away from the sight of the dwarf merchant staring angrily at the fake magic items, Hope faced the red haired woman and her companion with a smile. "Hey," he said cheerily, deciding to check if she really was Altara, "Are you Altara? If you are, I'm Hope. Nice to meet you and your friend!" He held out a hand.

Esk blew carefully on the spoonful of food to cool it while Miss DSE (dark-skinned elf) explained what being drunk was. "I see," he said seriously, nodding. Then he stuck the spoon into his mouth and closed his eyes in what seemed like bliss as his taste buds came across it. Mmm, delicious.

Esk knew about drunk people, although he hadn't known that the cat girl might be a scammer (He would have to thank Miss DSE). Exposure to Robin did that to you and gave you expertise with running and buckets on the side. In his experience, there were mainly four types - rowdy drunks who like to sing bawdily and mess with people, quiet drunks who gradually keel over without a word, drunks who became violent like a wrestler on steroids and drunks who ended up crying on a strangers shoulder about anything and everything. The rest were either a subset or a mixture of the four.

Nyameowra (Meowra?) Blake seemed to be part of group 1 - the Rowdy Drunk. Definitely not the Crying Drunk, that for sure.

And although Miss DSE had insulted her, she was going to give her a reading for free. How nice of her to do that. Leaning over towards Miss DSE, he said quietly, "She's agreeing to do it for free, though. Do you wish to give it a try? You won't be losing much either way."

Drei huffed and rolled her eyes. "No, if I turn to a fortune teller I'll loose nothing but my dignity -" Prick somersaulted through the air and her eyes followed it as it moved around the rowdy, uncouth tavern until the needle at last settled on Caesara's head. "... Which, I may have already lost the moment I met that one. Fine, I'll ask Meowra something."

She shrugged and turned back to the neko girl. "Okay... try this." She said slowly, thinking her question through, "This is Caesara. Caesara has employed me for a job. How will it - Valhilt's bane, this is so stupid - how will it go? Should I even bother with this extra hassle? Where should I go? Where am I meant to be?" Drei shut her mouth immediately after realising that she had babbled on and shook her head in agitation, attempting to regain herself. "That was more than one question. Let's sum that all up... if I continue down this path, what will happen?"

Despite her previous badmouthing of fortune tellers, she was a little curious at what this Meowra girl had to tell her.

"What'll happen to tall, dark, an' slanderous if she continues with this job," Nyaryssa slurred, sloppily shuffling the cards. Two fell from her hand, but she left them. She set the deck on the bar, then drew her first card. Ten of Swords.

"Pretty lady had a sad past, eh? Hehehe." Second card, placed next to the first. Five of Pentacles. "You lose somethin'?" She glanced over at Drei.

Third card was next. The Hermit. Nyaryssa's eyes narrowed, and she straightened. "Huh." She bent to look at the cards that had leapt out. Justice and The Lovers. "Eeeehn." Her brow furrowed, and she ran her fingers through her hair. "Hnh."

Brainde, Merrowvale
October 21, 2014--6:19 PM

"Hey! Are you Altara? If you are, I'm Hope. Nice to meet you and your friend!"

"Bwah?!" Altara's eyes shot open with surprise, and she even jumped backwards a little. There was a young man with blond hair, just a little bit shorter than Altara herself, standing in front of her and extending a hand in greeting. Not to mention, Lyra was looking at her with a disbelieving look, startled by the red-haired knight's rather strange reaction.

Did I seriously doze off just by looking at that pillow?! God, this better not keep happening...

Wait...so this was that Hope guy? Honestly, something about him made him look like a kid...maybe it was that unbelievably cheerful smile he had. Whatever it was, it didn't seem so surprising now that he caused all that confusion over Uona.

"...yeah, likewise," Altara grunted, turning her back to Hope and not accepting the handshake. "Just remember to clean up your own messes in the future. Got it?" Not even trying to hide her irritation, she walked back to Richard, and told him, "Since our last guy's here, we might as well get going before it gets dark. Come on." As soon as she was finished talking, the red-haired knight resumed walking down the path into the woods with long and quick strides. She wasn't paying attention to if Richard and Hope were actually close behind her or not.

Looking at her with a confused look, Lyra sighed. "D-don't know w-what could have gotten into her..." she muttered, before shrugging and looking at hope. "U-um...w-we had, ah, b-best be going. B-before she gets t-too far ahead." The elf girl hurried after Altara, though she was clearly having a tough time due to her height.

"Pretty lady had a sad past, eh? Hehehe."

Drei nodded - on the inside. Her past wasn't something she wanted to delve in, considering the pain her last few memories had caused her, but it was something she couldn't help but be curious about. Your past is what defines you, what makes you who you are. Without any memories of her past, she would never be able to understand herself; the decisions she makes, the things she says, the impulsive hatred she felt towards some things. She would never understand what her shards mean or what she was doing when she woke, or why that drow man was dead beside her and why she wrote those words...

Maybe it was better to not know.

"You lose something?"

Memories? Yes. It seemed that the tarot was just telling her things she already knew. Or had she lost something else? Agh, get it together, Drei! You know you don't believe in this load of -

"Huh." Meowra reacted strangely to the next card, her drunkenness momentarily slipping away as she straightened herself in her seat. Drei glanced at the card, an old man in a hood she at first mistook for death, and raised her gaze back to the neko.

"What does that one do?" She asked in monotone. Meowra just looked down to the two cards that had fallen out of her hands onto the ground and frowned. Drei tried to look at the cards but she couldn't see the pictures well from where she was seated. "... So, when are you planning on breaking the bad news to me? In what method do I part with this world?" Drei said slowly, heavy on the sarcasm, but she watched the neko with a nervous anticipation.

Hope Froloss

"...yeah, likewise," Altara grunted, turning her back to Hope and not accepting the handshake. "Just remember to clean up your own messes in the future. Got it?"

Hope felt his smile fade into a look of confusion, his hand still left hanging in the air as Altara turned her back to him and walked towards Richard. He cocked his head to the side and stared at her in bemusement, his unshaken hand coming down to hang at his side.

"Mess? What mess?" He muttered to himself, a small crease forming on the forehead as he tried to remember. He hadn't seen her until now (according to what he remembered, which wasn't much) and unless she had known how his interview with Axel went (which she wasn't there for, so she probably wasn't referring to that), Hope had done something within the time he had entered the city to have messed up her day.

Maybe Altara was irritated for him waking her up? That fit the time slot and would explain how it was his fault. That didn't explain the comment about cleaning up messes, as though he had spilt a drink and she was pissed off because she had to clean up after him. Not the best analogy, but eh, good enough for now. Maybe she was mad because she hadn't eaten anything and he hadn't gotten food for her? Or maybe she was angry that -

"U-um...w-we had, ah, b-best be going. B-before she gets t-too far ahead."

"Huh?" Hope snapped out of his mulling and turned to face Blonde Elf, who was hurrying after Altara. She was stalking off into the woods. "Oh, right," Hope said, and he began to follow them with loose, easy strides; spinning a half circle to smile and wave a goodbye to Uona as he did so.

'So...' he asked Richard anxiously, completing the spin to come face forwards again. 'Any idea why Altara's angry with me? This is my first time meeting her according to my memory, so unless I remind her of someone bad or something I have no idea what I did. Any ideas on how to placate her?' another though occurred to Hope, and he regained some of his normal cheer as he added 'And could you fix my new goggles for me please? You can take it out of my fees if I need to pay.'

"Uuuuuuh," she stared down at the cards for a bit, face pensive, tapping the Hermit with her finger. She then looked back at Drei, a bright smile on her face. "You'll be fine! Nothing to worry about." Haha. Hahaha. Haha. Ha. She placed a hand on Drei's shoulder and looked soulfully into her eyes. "You'll be fine," she insisted. "Don't you worry about anything. You're gonna be fine, you hear me? Just fine." She considered hugging the elf, call her a brave little soldier, too good for this world, but felt that might be a bit much. Also, the thought of touching someone made her ill.

She gathered up her cards and placed them back in their case. If the cards were telling her this lady should be concerned for her future, it would probably be best not to entertain any thoughts of further readings.

He accepted the money from the merchant. He was sad that the man had apparently gotten conned into buying magic items that weren't magical but he couldn't remain too long as Hope and Altara were talking.
"Thank you for your patronage all the same. I wish you luck in your future endeavors." He bid the merchant farewell before turning in time to hear Hope's and Altara's exchange of words, an exchange that didn't end too pleasantly for some reason.

'Any idea why Altara's angry with me? This is my first time meeting her according to my memory, so unless I remind her of someone bad or something I have no idea what I did. Any ideas on how to placate her?'

Richard didn't have any idea as to what might have set her off in the first place. It seemed largely random to him as well. "Your guess is as good as mine. I suppose the best thing to do is listen to her suggestion for now."

'And could you fix my new goggles for me please? You can take it out of my fees if I need to pay.'

He and Validus started to walk after Altara so they didn't get left behind while he communicated with Hope telepathically. "Sure. There's no need to pay anything since free repairs are already part of the deal. He reminded him.

"Altara, do please wait for us." He tried to get her to slow down a little as he struggled to keep up with her face paced march. "Do you still think these few will be of any actual use?" Validus spoke over it's mind channel to Richard, questioning the effectiveness of their rather rambunctious crew. "There's always hope." Richard answered back as he tried to keep up with Altara, something Validus was having a much easier time doing than he did.

And just like that they ventured into the wilderness, away from Brainde and into the vast world that awaited them.

Having pocketed some bronze coins Hope handed him, softening the blow from the recent truth about his fake magical stock, as the cheery customer merrily took their goggles and wondered over to the other adventurers side. "Thank you for your patronage good sir, I do hope to be of service to you again.", the halfling thanked him automatically, though the usual enthusiasm was somewhat diminished now. He also acknowledge the mages thanks for his own business with the gentleman, replying; "No problem at all my good man, I certainly would of ran into quite a nasty amount of misfortune if I had sold them off before bumping into you! Thank you again for your services."

Odd, it seemed the young white haired man had planned on going with the group. Well adventuring sorts do tend to flock together after-all, for glory and vanquishing evil and all that guff. Zeebarl was only interested in the riches part of adventuring frankly. He was a bit taken aback himself at the red haired knights sudden reaction however, which lowered itself into mild interest at her snubbing the white haired strangers greeting, seeming quite miffed at the for some reason, before storming off.
How peculiar, seemed there was strife in the motley crew of there's already. Didn't forebode well, though then again he had just recently discovered he had been conned recently. Ah well it didn't matter to him, as long as the frustration wasn't at something he sold, barely noticing the young elf's apology on her behalf. It seemed he wasn't the only one who seemed puzzled, in fact it appeared all of the adventurers were quite confuse don the sudden moment of hostility, perhaps some past experiences this Hope character was forgetful of? Zeebarl thought to himself the bigger question was why would he care?
He shoved all interest out of his head as he put on one of his wide grins and waving them goodbye with a supposedly hearty laugh, bellowing at them as they took their leave; "Fare-thee-well adventurers, I hope you have many a tale to tell the next time you see old Weasel Eyes!"

It wasn't too long after saying his false-hearted goodbyes, before dropping his smile and turning to Uona and gave a heavy sigh.
"Hmmmm with your sudden addition to my esteemed enterprise, it seems I way have to plot my schedule a little differently. Well I believe our current course of action shall be to merely head back to town, and probably stay one more single day there.", he chattered in a matter-of-factly tone, seeming very uninterested in any input his new and only employee had to give, and selfishly grasping hold of his cart, and wandering off towards Briande, beckoning nonchalantly for the ogre warrior to follow, calling out; "Come along now Uona, we have work to do, and quality products to sell before the night comes."
A short moment of silence passed before he commented; "Shame the large fellow wasn't interested in anything, had a ridiculously large sword stashed away in the cart as well. Been meaning to get rid of the thing for years after that stuffy nobleman sold it to me."

Uona watched the little spat in Richard's party, feeling a bit guilty over her hand in it. She had intended to raise a defense on Hope's behalf, insist it had been her idea rather than his, but they were gone before she could get her vocal chords working. Her employee began moving in the opposite direction not long after, announcing plans to stay in Briande another day. Uona gave a brief look back in the direction Richard and the others had left, then followed Zeebarl.

The halfling was nattering on about something, a sword in his cart or somesuch that a noble had scammed him into buying. "A nobleman sold you a sword?" she asked, a bit taken aback. "Why? I doubt he needed the money. Why not have it melted down, or give it some warrior he named his champion?" She stepped over a dog lazing in the street. "... It's not cursed, is it?" she added as an after thought, a bit concerned by the prospect. Curses were always bad.

Hope Froloss

'Sweet!' Hope thought gleefully, pulling out the broken goggles from his pocket. He lagged behind and waited for Richard to catch up, then handed them over to him. 'Thanks, man. Now I'll try to figure out what's up with her. Wish me luck!' He grinned lightheartedly, then jogged away to catch up with Altara.

"hey, wait up!" Hope called, waving a hand to catch her attention. He ran past Altara and moved in front of her, walking backwards a respectable distance away from her face so that she wouldn't ignore him by walking faster or something. Because Altara might do that, and then Hope wouldn't be able to figure out how to stop her from being angry with him and his dreams of travelling with friends would be over faster than you could say 'I hate your guts'. Not what he wanted at all.

The respectable distance was because Hope really didn't need to make Altara more mad at him than she already was by stepping on her feet or bumping into her or getting pissed off because he was too far away and therefore couldn't be heard; no point giving Altara a legitimate reason to hate him. And also to be out of range in case she tried to punch him or something, because that would hurt and Hope really didn't want to get a black eye, thank you.

Smiling somewhat worriedly (what was he suppose to do?), Hope took a deep breath and crossed an arm behind his back, mentally deciding what he was going to say. "Hey," he said, a hint of apology in his tone. "I have no idea what I've done, but I'm sorry?" He tried, his smile turning from worried to awkward.

Zeebarl scratched his chin for a moment as he and Uona continued along, replying to her questions; "Haven't a clue why he wanted to rid of it, but frankly he did seem skittish about the whole ordeal. I wish it was cursed, then at least some magic student could want to take a bit of tinkering to it for their research or whatever it is students of the magical crafts do with cursed swords. Suppose it simply was just because it's made of false gold, not much used as a sword really, more decorative than anything. Still, even a soft sword is still a sword if sharpened enough, but it's not really my job to question unless the deal is in question itself."

He carried on along the street, his cart splashing through a puddle from last nights rain, seeming to be heading straight ahead before suddenly telling his new employee; "I think we shall set shop outside that inn, or tavern or whatever establishment it was, that you were at earlier. Minstrel something I believe. Anyways, we shall probably be staying the night there. But first we shall acquire a tidy profit, well more of it, from the good patrons of this town."
As they continued on a bit further, Zeebarl kept silent awkwardly before asking Uona uneasily; "I don't suppose you have the funds for your own room?", as he looked around awkwardly, obviously not too keen on the idea of sharing a room, or paying for a separate one either, though tactfully held his tongue on the matter.
