h e i g h t x // x1.84m / 6'4"

w e i g h t x // x72kg / 158.7lbs

h a i r x // xA deep walnut colour, Ji-hyun's hair is grown longer than most males', coming down to fall over his forehead and sometimes into his eyes. He likes to run a little product through it to create a part over his right eye, then tousle the rest for a fresh-out-of-the-shower look.

e y e s x // xJi-hyun's eyes are dark, close to black, and often ringed in dark circles.

o d d i t i e s x // xHis knuckles are crisscrossed with faded scars, but otherwise nothing noteworthy.

a p p e a r a n c e x // xJi-hyun is an easygoing, relaxed guy, and it shows in his face. He possesses a casual sort of handsomeness, though he's unaware of this for the most part. His smile is bright and comes easily, although he has a resting bitch face that unfortunately makes him look rather fierce when he's not trying to be friendly.

P E R S O N A L I T A T E
xxxxxxxxxxxx• x patient x • x easygoing x • x pessimistic x • x brilliant x •

Ji-hyun is almost certainly the stereotype of what you'd expect of a son of Hypnos. And you know what? He's happy that way.

He's infinitely patient, making him a hit with the kids—in fact, he was aiming to become a teacher just before he left for Camp Athens—and he's a great listener who'll be willing to give anyone, even people he's not close to, a little time and a listening ear to let them unload. He doesn't use anything he learns for his own gain, only satisfaction knowing that he could help people. He's lazy, yes, but not uncaring, and certainly not callous. He hates to see strife, and if he can he'll try to help resolve disputes, but only if he knows he can make a difference and if he truly cares for those involved.

Ji-hyun gets along well with everyone to the best of his ability, being ready with genuine compliments and a bright smile for anyone he has to interact with. He's good at taking instructions from others (though not so good a leader himself), and is a great team player, if you consider someone who sits in in the corner quietly until he's given work to do a good team player. Even so, he generally tries to take a short cut to complete his tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible, unless he's given extremely specific instructions, because that means that all the thinking's already been done for him.

Despite this, Ji-hyun's oddly cynical about the world. His pessimistic tendencies are an excuse for his laziness, claiming that since things are most likely going to unravel themselves there's little reason for him to put in too much effort or time. This is why he offers such shit advice despite being a good listener, because he'll often suggest a method of action to put the problem away for good. Having problems with a person? Forget them entirely. Struggling with a task? Just give up on it. He's seen and experienced enough to know well the feeling of disappointment, so to avoid any further letdowns he prefers to dodge such situations entirely.

Bill Gates once said he would hire a lazy person to do a difficult job because they'd find an easy way to do it. This might have been spoken with Ji-hyun in mind, because while he's probably the laziest piece of shit to ever step foot in Camp Athens, he's also incredibly intelligent, having been top of his school often while he was still schooling and skipping a grade ahead while he was in middle school. Therefore, his laziness is born of a reluctance to act on his own observations and opinions rather than a lack of them. Still, he tries not to stand out too much, preferring to live in others' shadow to avoid raising the expectations that society and his peers have of him.

H I S T O R I A R U M

Even before the failure of her husband's business that forced them to leave her children in the care of her mother, Kim Nari was facing marital issues. Following the birth of her son, she'd gradually drifted away from her husband until they were barely more than strangers who lived in the same house and occasionally slept with each other for the hell of it. By the time her son was 5, she'd had enough of being ignored except when her husband needed someone to warm his bed. She used to wander around the city at night, a lone woman bar hopping in the hopes of finding someone to fill the void in her heart.

And there were many men, sure. But there was only one that remained in her memory years after he'd loved and left her, a tall and handsome foreigner with sleepy eyes—she didn't even know his name. The only evidence she'd ever had of him was the son she birthed nine months later, which her husband assumed was the product of one of their drunken nights together. What did it matter? A child would pull the family together, just like old times.

Until the debt Ji-hyun's father took out to sustain his business was due, and with his clinic on the brink of closure the family decided to split up for their own good. Nari sent her sons to live with her mother, promising that she would go to collect them when they'd found a nice new place to live, away from the scary debtors. And she intended to keep her promise—until one night, when a truck forced their car off the road and down the side of a mountain, killing both on impact. Ji-hyun was only 3 at the time.

And so Ji-hyun and Ji-ha, now orphans as far as anyone was concerned, grew up in the care of their grandmother. In the absence of their parents, she decided that she'd have to be the strict guardian children needed, and so she always pushed the boys to be stronger, better. Ji-hyun, a naturally brilliant child, did well as far as he was expected to, but his brother, still reeling from his loss, was never quite able to adapt to his new surroundings.

Right from the start, the difference was obvious. Though they were given the same opportunities, Ji-hyun and Ji-ha responded differently, and somehow Ji-hyun always came out on top. His brilliance put him at the top of the target list for the older boys at his school, and so it was always his brother that had to come to his rescue. Every time a teacher called home with the news that Ji-ha had been in another fight, their grandmother would shove a few dollars into Ji-hyun's hand and tell him to go down to the shops to buy something for himself while she kept Ji-ha back to scold him. Ji-ha never resented protecting his brother, because it was his duty, but after everything was said and done and he had to tend to his bruises sometimes he'd wish for a different destiny, one where he didn't have to put himself at risk for the only person he ever loved, one where he wasn't ridiculed and hated.

Those evenings, Ji-hyun used to sit outside the convenience shop with a man who would buy him an ice cream and talk to him about his school. This man was tall and handsome, and spoke Korean slowly, but he looked like nobody Ji-hyun knew. Once he tried to tell Ji-hyun he was his father, but the boy just laughed and shook his head—everyone knew Ji-hyun didn't have a father. And it wasn't because he was missing, it was because he was dead. So the man, laughing, agreed that he would be Ji-hyun's uncle instead. His secret friend. Wouldn't that be nice?

Over time, their conversations shifted from the mundane and casual to heavier topics, like just what exactly Grandmother was doing back at the house with Ji-ha. Ji-hyun, in his little bubble of contentment, gradually learned that the world wasn't fair to those who fell behind. He saw the tears his brother held back, the bruises he tried to hide. Grandmother just wanted the best for them, he tried to explain. Grandmother never wanted to hurt us. But hurt she did.

Because the nice man used to pay for Ji-hyun's ice cream, he never had to spend the money Grandmother shoved at him. Over the years, the little handful of coins grew and grew, and by the time the brothers knew what they wanted to do it was enough to keep one of them alive for some time, away from home. Right before Ji-ha left for the last time Ji-hyun shoved the envelope of money into his hands—you'll need it, Brother, just write back to me when you can.

Grandmother never really forgave herself for what Ji-ha did. He never wrote back, never spoke to any of his old friends—it was as if he'd just taken everything he owned and disappeared off the face of the earth. It was around this time Ji-hyun began to understand that no good deed goes unpunished. He did well at school, and for what? His brother would get hurt at school, and then again at home. He saved money and gave it all to his brother, and for what? Disappeared straight out of his life, maybe living with a nice girl somewhere, maybe lying dead in a ditch. Even the nice uncle had left him a long time ago, wasn't there to sit with him until the only light was from inside the convenience store, a safe haven for Ji-hyun.

Still, he had Grandmother to provide for. She was old and getting weaker, and needed him. Until the nice uncle reappeared, came back into his life like nothing had ever happened between them, and explained Ji-hyun's heritage to him, said there was a camp somewhere full of people just like him. I'll make sure your grandmother is taken care of, he promised, and then what did Ji-hyun have left to hold him back? He made arrangements for a neighbour to check in on Grandmother every now and then, made the usual promise of calls and letters, and left the place he'd always called home for Camp Athens.

Image Alex had never been to one single party before she came to Camp Athens. Their mother never allowed her to leave the house. Last years had been a blast, but this year was going to be different. Alex sat quietly as her brother took the chair across from her. "Are you okay?" He watched her as she managed to turn her attention to him. "..don't tell me it's nothing. When some of the campers left for the year, others stayed here. You didn't. You left me. Where did you go?"

Alex shook her head. "I'm fine. This isn't about when I left. Then, I just needed to be by myself."

"You know it's dangerous out there. Especially by yourself. Has Mason said something to you again? is that why you left?"
"No."
"Okay, so what's wrong now? Did someone else say something to you?"
"No!" she snapped.
"Al..."
Image "Just leave it alone, okay? Don't ask me any more questions." she stood up angrily. "Please." she added. It wasn't like her to shut him off without talking to him. He nodded once, his eyes looking down as he did. She gave him a glare before walking silently passed him. Maybe she shouldn't have come back to camp this year since everyone already thought she was a murderer. No one would possibly miss her, would they? Everything in her life had already turned upside down because of a stupid feud between two Gods. They just couldn't let things stay in the past.

Image He looked up, watching her head into her room. Hopefully, the party would make her feel better. Being around Duke and Wes always brought a smile to her face. Especially Duke. Oh, Ajax had noticed the way his little sister looked at his best friend. Was she acting like this because of him? Duke had recently found out about his little sister, and Alex had seen them together a couple of times without knowing who she is. Was she jealous? the corners of Ajax's lips began to lift upwards, forming a large smile as he looked away and hung his head. Laughing. He had never known her to be jealous, not even once, or she just managed to hide it well. Daniel had a new girl around him before he passed, but Alex didn't seem to batter an eye. He could go in there and tell her about Duke's sister, but maybe it would be way more entertaining for her to find out from Duke himself.

Ajax headed out the second he was dressed, but first grabbing his rucksack which sat near the front door. He decided to wear something casual: Party Outfit. As promised, he arrived a bit early with the music he had downloaded the night before on his computer. It was all taking place down near the beach again where a large campfire was sitting in the middle ready to be lit. Around it at a good safe distance sat four large log benches for everyone to chill out around the flames. The staff members were the ones hosting it all, so they were cooking on the BBQ tonight. They had containers filled with ice where the beer bottles chilled, and quite the buffet on a long table so people could help themselves to sandwiches, pizza, sausage rolls and every other party food displayed. The BBQ would be serving burgers and hot dogs with or without onions. A large variety for everyone to say the least.

In an oddly relaxed manner that evening, Emery was lounging on her bed, reading a book - one of the volumes of old fairytales some great-aunt or other had gifted to her when she was much younger. Shouts and laughter drifted in through the window that she'd opened just a crack, indicators that the party had already begun to swing into gear. Emery figured she'd finish this chapter, get dressed, and head down to join the rest.

Ten minutes later, she slipped a bookmark between the pages and left the tome sitting on her nightstand, pulling out clothes from her wardrobe. She lingered briefly on a dress, then shoved it aside - too many layers, that close to the fire she'd sweat through it and ruin the entire thing. She could almost hear Grandma tutting in the back of her mind.

Emery eventually settled on a sweater, picking a skirt to match it. A slight breeze slipped into the room while she was dressing, dancing around her legs and making gooseflesh prickle, so she pulled a pair of socks on just for good measure.

A loud whistle sounded right outside the cabin, evidently meant to draw her attention. Emery pushed the window open, leaning out of it to call to Theo. "I'll be right down! Don't finish it without me." Grandma's voice resurfaced again, this time a warning about drinking too much, but Emery shrugged it off. She could handle her alcohol.

She slipped her feet into a pair of worn oxfords and hurried out of her cabin, following the path down to the fire. Most of the students were milling around already, talking to each other. Emery spotted Gwendolyn and raised a hand, waving at her - the unspoken promise of I'll come talk to you later - and turned her attention to the food, filling her plate with a little bit of everything that looked interesting. To her surprise, by the time she reached the other end of the tables Theo was there, talking to Ajax.

"Ajax, hi. Theo, I believe you promised me alcohol?"

"Should I bother going to the party?" Ji-hyun mumbled, staring into his mug at the strong tea he'd just brewed. Taking a deep breath, he tilted his head back and downed the warm drink, then swirled the remaining liquid and leaves at the bottom and drained the mug, turning it this way and that to try to make sense of the leaves inside.

Turned this way, it could be a fire, which would probably mean yes. But turned the other way...it looked like a mountain, which meant no. "Can you please give me a straight answer?"

As if on cue, his phone lit up and began buzzing wildly, the alarm that he'd set earlier to remind himself to get ready going off. He supposed that could be a sign of its own. Which meant yes, he should go.

Sighing, Ji-hyun set the mug down and got to his feet, glancing around as if the clothes he was going to wear would magically fly out of his closet. No such luck. "Hey, will anyone mind if I turn up in sweatpants?" he turned back to the mug and posed another question. The leaves' arrangement didn't change, but someone outside laughed, high and shrill, and he resigned himself to his fate. He would have to change.

Having gotten dressed, Ji-hyun left the cabin and wandered towards the other cabins. It would be a sad party if he had to go alone. "Seung-min! Are you coming?"

Ji-hyun wasn't unfit by any means, but by the time he reached the cabin the uphill climb had him breathing a little heavily. He knocked on the door. "Why the hell are your cabins so far away? And you can teleport!" he recalled, a little indignantly. "Shouldn't you be faster than I am? And they say I'm lazy? Get your butt out here!"

McKenna frowned at the mess of metal before her. She was merely bored and decided to forge something without any idea in mind... it turns out that doesn't work for the blonde.

McKenna sighed, tossing the metal into the scrap bucket - a place she threw all of her deformed pieces where she would either: one, melt into one piece of metal and a later time or two, attempt to do some weird chemical processes to those horrendous things and actually separate the metals. It works, McKenna told herself firmly with full confidence. What it worked with? Now, that was the temperamental factor.

McKenna was about to leave for her cabin when she stopped in her tracks, realizing that she hasn't labeled what compounds were in the metal potpourri she had just created. She grabbed her sharpie, scrawling a quick "18" on the deformed shape before referring to the notebook she associated with all her blacksmith matters.

Potassium, McKenna began her list with the alkali metal she had used. She had desperately wanted to work with stuff like caesium, francium, or perhaps rubidium, but their melting points were too low, and francium was truly quite rare. Strontium, beryllium, indium, iron, tantalum, tungsten. Typical blacksmiths perhaps restricted themselves to wrought iron and steel, but not the daughter of Hephaestus.

After she finished her list, McKenna slammed her notebook shut, walking back to her cabin to change. She originally wasn't going to the bonfire, but she had reached a creative block with her metals (instead of writer's block, it was blacksmith's block). McKenna really didn't care if she was late, though, so there was no rush in her step.

Once she got back to her cabin, McKenna pulled on her much-loved Serbian sweatshirt, jeans, and tattered sneakers. The blonde sauntered out of the cabin without much thought.

McKenna arrived at the bonfire, eyeing the socializing campers with distaste. Not her thing. McKenna wasn't the shy type, but she was introverted, preferring to stay with her metals and fire rather than "hang out with friends." No, thanks.

Seung-min pouted as he stared into his full length floor mirror, his outfit choices on either side of him. While Seung-min wasn't as concerned with his glamorous beauty as maybe the Hera or Aphrodite kids were, when he didn't randomly throw on a set of clothes 95%, he tended to have a really hard time choosing outfits.

Finally, Seung-min just decided to go for it and chose his outfit for the party. Now that he thought of it, it wasn't really worth it to wear his opening ceremony shirt to the bonfire.

Seung-min grinned at himself proudly through the mirror. His moment was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. "Why the hell are your cabins so far away? And you can teleport!" Seung-min gulped as he remembered the time and his precious little hyung (okay, sure, Ji-hyun definitely wasn't the little one out of the two of them). Eidetic memory didn't necessarily mean, "aware of surroundings."

"Shouldn't you be faster than I am?" Ji-hyun continued. "And they say I'm lazy? Get your butt out here!" Seung-min grabbed his shoes, shoving them on his feet as he dashed towards the door. However, his running and teleportation didn't necessarily coordinate when Seung-min didn't concentrate and really just wanted to get somewhere. A few feet before he reached the door, Seung-min teleported outside without much thought, accidentally slamming into his (favorite) hyung.

"Sorry, hyung!" Seung-min chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "You know me, I'm like that. I can't believe you came all the way here little ol' me!" Seung-min grinned brightly. Personally, he considered the older boy a close friend, although he wasn't sure if that was really the case in Ji-hyun's opinion. "Anyway, let's go!"

The two began walking down to the bonfire, although Seung-min had significantly more bounce in his step than Ji-hyun (hell, he was practically skipping). "Why are you going to the party, hyung? Doesn't really seem like your scene, if I'm honest. Is there going to be alcohol? Wait, of course there's going to be alcohol... hopefully. I was obedient back in Daegu, following the law and whatnot, but you know I'm just not a goody-two shoes, hyung! I was actually going to snatch my parents' alcohol once when I was fifteen, but my friend said I probably wouldn't act much different if I was drunk, except for being much crazier, and you know, I don't want to put the burden of taking care of a drunk me on anyone." Seung-min, admittedly, had faltered a bit when he mentioned his friend - but he could slip them into his everyday conversation now. I'm doing better, he thought to himself, slightly proud.

Emery, Theo, and Ajax were joined by a few people pretty quickly, first Alex, then Andy. Emery looked around while waiting, chewing slowly on a puff pastry, letting herself ease into the festive atmosphere. Camp Athens certainly knew how to party.

"So.. what do you think of Camp Athens so far? It's okay, you can be honest. If you find it shit? You can tell me." Ajax's voice caught her attention, and she swiveled back to give him her attention. "I honestly didn't like this place at first, I mean... it's a gorgeous place, but, it wasn't home. That changed. Now it feels like home."

"Oh, I wouldn't go so far as to call it home...yet," Emery mused. She'd never really thought about it before. She did have friends, and family here, but sometimes she still felt foreign and strange, uprooted as she had been time and again. "It's certainly welcoming, and a fair bit more interesting to be than most of the places I've been, though. Maybe in time this'll be a place I'm proud to call home." Maybe. If she stayed, and she never stayed anywhere for longer than a few years.

She stifled a laugh at Andy's antics, waving at her to acknowledge her presence. The faces the other girl was pulling were phenomenal.

Maybe Camp could be a place where she had friends to keep.

Theo returned with drinks, passing Emery a cup, and she pushed her thoughts away, determined to have fun even if it was just for one night. Taking a sip of her drink, she turned towards Theo as he leaned in close to whisper. "Hey, have fun. Just don't forget you have to formally introduce me to your cute redheaded friend."

He shot a meaningful look in Gwen's direction, and Emery scoffed, faking outrage. "Why, Theo. Not forward enough to make your first move, I see. Never fear - Miss St. John will find a way to make it happen."

While she was talking to Theo, some activity was happening over by the fire. A group of people gathered, and as Emery watched, Kalani jumped up to place a kiss on someone else in the circle...Emery's eyes drifted to the centre of the circle, where a bottle lay, and it clicked. This could be fun.

Still clutching her drink, Emery left Theo with Sylas, and made her way over to the circle. "Hey...I'm a little late to the beginning, hope you don't mind an extra player," she called to the group, moving to sit beside Gwen. The other campers obligingly made a space for her, and she squeezed in gratefully.

"Are we having fun tonight, Gwen? Hi, Nik," she leaned over to greet Nikolaos sitting on Gwen's other side. She turned back to Gwen, pitching her voice low. "If you had to choose someone here to kiss, who would it be?"

Something large and warm fell into Ji-hyun's arms, and he staggered backward. It wasn't until he'd helped the something upright that he realised it was Seung-min, having basically teleported right on top of Ji-hyun.

"Sorry, hyung! You know me, I'm like that. I can't believe you came all the way here little ol' me!"

Ji-hyun scoffed, reaching over to ruffle a hand through his friend's hair affectionately in response to his bright smile. "You little rascal. Of course I had to come get you. Couldn't risk you teleporting straight into the fire." He cared more for the kid than he showed, though, and the real reason was because he didn't want Seung-min going down alone. As calming as it was for Ji-hyun himself to be alone, he didn't want Seung-min feeling like there wasn't anyone at camp who cared enough to seek him out for activities. That was what Ji-hyun did - he made people feel good about themselves. No Hypnos-inherited ability there, just the goodness of his heart.

They started down the hill together, Ji-hyun strolling, Seung-min hopping. Ji-hyun let the other boy prattle on for a moment, then collected his thoughts to find a response. "My tea leaves said I should go. Well, actually my phone said I should go, but it was a sign from the universe that I ought to be at the campfire tonight. Besides, there's food, and that means I don't have to worry about dinner tonight." Okay, there was food every day, courtesy of the camp staff, but tonight's spread would probably be more interesting than normal. And Ji-hyun liked food and the warmth that the fire would no doubt bring. Maybe he could even find some marshmallows to burn to a crisp and eat anyway.

"Wait, what? No. You are not drinking. You're a child. Ohmigosh, you're seventeen. How can I let you drink? How can I answer to your parents?" Ji-hyun tried to make his voice stern, but in reality he was just trying to hold back laughter. While it wasn't exactly responsible of him to let a minor drink, he wasn't Seung-min's guardian, just his friend. As long as he kept an eye out for him...why not? Let the boy have his fun.

They reached the campfire, the other kids already milling around, and Ji-hyun made a beeline for the food table, grabbing some food and piling it on a plate. He offered it to Seung-min, taking a chip for himself. "Here. Eat some food first, then later when you drink, drink as much water as alcohol so your headache won't be as bad. I'm not going to bring you soup and biscuits in the morning, I'm too lazy, so don't regret your decisions." Well, maybe he might feel compelled to do something nice for a hungover child, but never let it be said that Ji-hyun does not do his duty as Seung-min's hyung.

"Go forth and have fun, but I'll be watching you." Ji-hyun turned his attention to the fire, where people were playing spin the bottle, and stuffed a sausage bun into his mouth, chewing as he watched. Not his scene, but fun nonetheless.

“Not at the present time,” Evelyn replied easily - too easily. McKenna raised an eyebrow, but really, what else was to be expected from a daughter of Nemesis?

“I just thought to introduce myself formally," the redhead continued, “but if you were busy, and my presence is a nuisance I apologize for misreading the circumstances.”

Evelyn held McKenna's gaze confidently, unmoving. There was no way in hell she was going to leave - Evelyn knew McKenna wasn't busy, and that she hadn't misread the circumstances (although her presence was definitely a nuisance).

McKenna anticipated the questions, but that didn't mean she was looking forward to them. Dear, God... McKenna's eyebrows furrowed.

“Do people often come to you for a favor?” Evelyn started firing away. “Do you agree to them?” Evelyn had a slight smile on her face - yep, she was getting to the juicy bits. “Do I look like somebody that wants or expects something from you?” Evelyn made no move to hide her blatant searching in McKenna's eyes, gauging her response. McKenna raised an eyebrow, unfazed and unimpressed. She wasn't intimidated in the slightest, but McKenna being McKenna, she was going to give the redhead the truth nonetheless.

“Can I get you a drink?” Evelyn raised an eyebrow, reaching into the cooler that contained mainly beer. “Maybe something from home?”

It was at this point when Duke decided to step in, turning to McKenna. "Call me if you need anything," he said, letting her fend for herself. McKenna liked that about her half-brother.

McKenna kept a neutral expression on her face as she began to answer the redhead's questions. "Usually, people don't come to me at all," McKenna stated dryly. "I don't have friends, so if anyone were to approach me, they would probably want something. Like you; you want to know how I would respond to your really forward advances, and maybe you might find me abnormal and wonder, 'who the fuck is this person?'" McKenna eyed the daughter of Nemesis skeptically. "If you wanted to know, I do indeed find you nosy."

McKenna paused for a moment, assessing the drinks cooler, before continuing. "I highly doubt that you have any rakija in there," she said, leaving it at that.

Of course, McKenna only being fifteen years old with most of her Serbian life stuck in an orphanage, it was safe to say that she never had regular exposure to alcohol. But she has had rakija before (once, she thought), although it definitely wasn't the authentic, homemade type.

"Wait, what? No. You are not drinking. You're a child. Ohmigosh, you're seventeen. How can I let you drink? How can I answer to your parents?" Seung-min pouted at his friend, although he could clearly hear the barely held back laughter behind his stern facade.

"Everybody drinks before they're legal these days," Seung-min said dismissively (hey, it was true). He dramatically stroked his chin with a finger. "In fact, I can't believe I, at seventeen years old, haven't gotten drunk yet!"

Once they reached the campfire, Ji-hyun immediately headed towards the food, Seung-min following suit. The elder offered a plate of food to the auburn-haired Korean boy, who eyed it eagerly. "Here. Eat some food first, then later when you drink, drink as much water as alcohol so your headache won't be as bad. I'm not going to bring you soup and biscuits in the morning, I'm too lazy, so don't regret your decisions." Seung-min nodded robotically as Ji-hyun finished his spiel.

"Okay, hyung!" Seung-min beamed - it may have seemed like he wasn't paying attention, but Ji-hyun was fully aware of his eidetic memory anyway.

"Go forth and have fun, but I'll be watching you." Seung-min followed Ji-hyun's gaze, catching sight of the spin the bottle game currently taking place.

Seung-min chewed his lip slightly, tapping Ji-hyun on the shoulder. "Hyung...? I'm kinda being inconstant again, so I might go play spin the bottle instead of drinking." Seung-min grinned. "I'm really grateful for your educational speech on taking care of myself, but I might revert to kissing people instead of intaking alcohol." Seung-min stood on his toes to hug his friend from the back, before blowing him an exaggerated kiss as he headed to the spin the bottle game.

Seung-min arrived at the group with a grin, turning to Kalani, who seemed to be the ringleader. "Hey, guys!" he said brightly. "You don't mind if I join in a bit late, right?"

It wasn't a satisfactory answer, but Emery decided to let it slide for now. A little disappointing that Gwen didn't immediately answer with Theo, but it would make trying to get them together all the more fun. Besides, that wasn't Gwen's style, to be so forward.

Good question, though. Who would you pick? The easy solution was, whoever was interested in Emery herself. Not to get all sob story about it, but Emery never really had much time to get close to any interesting people - regardless of gender - and pining for anyone was, quite frankly, dangerous. So instead of saying anything she shrugged and made a noncommittal noise. "I'm not all that enthusiastic about anyone, no offence. Happy to accept whoever I get," she returned.

The game went on while Emery watched. No one landed on her, nor did she get a chance to spin, but it was fun watching all the same. Between the excitement and the drinking, her energy level depleted faster than expected, and before she knew it people had started leaving one by one. First Theo left, then Gwen, leaving Emery sitting sitting there, more if less alone. Seeing Theo help Alex back, she felt slightly guilty - she'd promised him she would try to help him and Gwen along and she hadn't even brought his name up in conversation yet. Maybe if there was an opportunity tomorrow...

A proffered hand entered her line of sight, and Emery looked up to meet Mason's eyes. She accepted his hand, letting him pull her to her feet while she called a goodbye to Kalani's departing back. "Are you in need of an escort to your cabin?"

Emery pretended to shiver, crossing her arms in front of her. "My knight in shining armour. I'd be so terrified of what lurks in the dark forest if you weren't here." She dropped her arms, giggling. Okay, maybe she was a little tipsy after all. Happens to the best of them. "You don't have to if you don't want to, but a walk up the hill together would be nice." Without waiting for his response, she gathered her trash and started up the path towards the hill.

"I was wondering too... I didn't really expect to see you there, so who'd you join for?" Emery shrugged again, tossing her now-empty cutlery into a nearby trash can. "I didn't really have anyone in mind," she admitted. "Just joined for a bit of fun. Although if you know anyone that's interested in me you should let me know, I could have a little fun while I'm here at camp."

The path back to her cabin was shorter than she remembered, or maybe she'd just been bouncing along in alcohol-induced bliss, because the pair of them reached her cabin pretty quickly. Emery turned back at the door, leaning against the frame to face Mason. "Thanks for protecting me from lions, tigers, and bears, oh my," she teased, reaching forward to place a hand on Mason's shoulder. "You're a good egg." Patting his shoulder clumsily, she opened the cabin door and all but stumbled inside. "Goodnight!" Oh yeah, she'd had a bit to drink, alright. But it wasn't nothing a demigod couldn't handle with a good night's sleep.

Image

Emery's eyes popped open, same way they always did every morning, about ten seconds before her alarm rang. The first thing she was aware of was that her mouth was dry, a searing desert that extended all the way down her throat. The next thing she realised was that she was hungover. "Fuck," she tried to say, instead managing little more than a strangled wheeze.

Rolling out of bed, she strode over to the tap, filling a glass and emptying it down her throat. She had to drink twice more before her throat felt like anything resembling its state before the party last night, but at least it didn't hurt so much anymore.

Thankful that she'd at least had the sense to change out of her clothes before crashing, she washed up and changed, pulling a thin sweater over her shoulders before heading out the door to the dining area. Not many people were around yet, and those who were looked like they might still be managing last night's effects, so Emery found herself some toast and a cup of coffee, and slid into a seat in a corner, choosing instead to go through social media on her phone instead. Later would be action enough, what with the planned activity, but for now she would take all the quiet she could get.

Inconstant, my ass. Seung-min was a bloody metronome - but Ji-hyun wasn't complaining. At least they were both having a good time. Still cradling the plate of food he'd scored, he opted to stand and watch instead of inserting himself into anything.

The time passed fairly quickly, and, convinced that the younger boy didn't need watching, Ji-hyun had walked a few circuits around the entire area, downing more food and approximately three bottles of cider in the meantime. Eventually, people started heading back, and Ji-hyun figured that was his cue. He hadn't made any significant contact with any of the other campers - except for maybe Seung-min - and while that in itself was disappointing, it wasn't stressful at all.

Before he left, he snagged another bottle of alcohol, holding its cool neck gently between his pale fingers. Humming quietly to himself, he began the trek back to his cabin, where he planned to lie in bed and read, maybe catch a few hours of sleep. It'd been a good evening.

Image

The morning dawned bright and early to find Ji-hyun curled up in bed, reading. This particular novel was pretty heavy, almost a tome by Ji-hyun's reckoning, so he was lying on his side, unmoving save for occasionally turning a page. He'd been reading most of the night, sleeping for maybe a few hours before getting up again to read some more. Having nothing better to do, when he first came to camp he'd brought his tiny book collection, just so he'd have something to entertain himself with instead of turning to - shudder - physical activity. What a nightmare.

It was still early, though. He could relax a while longer before going down to breakfast. He wasn't much inclined to run around looking for a flag just yet.

Much to her dismay, Areum's morning was as uneventful as the party last night. She had talked briefly with one boy ─ Finley, if her memory served it her right, and the thought of going to look for him again did cross her mind as she threw on an outfit that she had picked out the night before. Though she would much rather go looking for her half-brother, Ji-hyun. They had talked fleetingly since she had first arrived at the camp, and frankly she was still getting used to the thought of having a brother after growing up being the only child.

Leaving her cabin, she could see some of the other campers up and talking or getting in early exercise. Areum even saw a few faces from the bonfire last night, but no one who caught her attention at the moment. She spent time trying to remember exactly where Ji-hyun's cabin was among the many others in the camp, but when she found it she immediately began to approach the door.

She gently tapped on the door to announce her presence to whoever might've been in there and then waited patiently until someone answered the door.

STAFF ANNOUNCEMENT - ALARIC HART

ImageHe headed to the hall with a large bag over his shoulder prompting the camp attendees outside to follow him as he passed so he could make the announcement. Other staff patrolled the camp rounding the strays up or those that chose to slumber in their cabins.

Once he was burrowed in towards the back of the hall, he begun. "Excuse me." He cleared his throat. "Excuse me." Having little success to gain their focus that way, he whistled loudly, its sound easily carrying through the hall.
"Great. Now, it has come to my attention that the camp has been making ill on its promises to help harness and flourish your powers and provide exciting activity. So today, we play an extreme capture the flag. And yes it's mandatory that you participate. As elementary as that may sound, you need it. Welcome to camp. The teams will be split up in two.."

He cleared his throat and read from his list. "The Red Spartans: Alexandria, Andromeda, Dominick, McKenna, Ji-hyun, Sloane, Theo, Harleen, Finley, Atticus, Adrianna, Kalani, Elias, Nikoloas, Lise, Mason."

He looked up from his list expecting the groans to roll in but protesting would get them nowhere.

"The Blue Trojans: Ajax, Gwendolyn, Trinity, Wesley, Sylas, Annie, Seung-min, Emery, Dimitri, Duke, Keith, Isobel, Mateo, Areum, Raven and Evelyn."

"You die, you lose. You tap out, you lose. You get your color taken from you, you lose and come back to the hall and watch."
He dropped his bag with a grunt on a nearby table with a clatter. "Your colors are at your base. These are your weapons. You do not have to use a weapon, they will not be given to you. You can use your powers." He smirked a little. "Welcome to the Hunger Games." The reference to the gripping YA book probably went over at least half the camp attendants heads. Most didn't give reading the time of day, and those that did read probably didn't concern themselves with something so modernized, their noses either stuck in the air or buried in work of literature and ancient tales instead.
Alaric was mostly referring to the cornucopia aspect. The weapons would be scattered among the woods and there’s for the taking, most of which were right at the center of the woods, gleaming and beckoning to be taken in the crossfire.
The camp attendees could figure out for themselves that the pain they could experience would be no more than a phantom pain via the weapons, traps and beasts that the very gods themselves, and some demigods designed and helped set up.

It would be best to see them treat it as real as possible.

"Do not go for fatal blows on each other," he warned as the final and only rule. A demigod turning on another demigod that way was vicious and cruel, and Alaric as well as other staff had no tolerance for it. It had no place in their camp.
"There are currently some hostile beasts prowling the woods," he assured in case anyone was disheartened by the idea of no-fatality experience. However, their very jaws and beings were enchanted so when they clamped down on a demigod fatally, they'd be warped straight to the hall. "You have two minutes to get to the woods, get your colors on, hide your flag within these perimeters," he pointed to the map's red and blue colored area on opposite ends of each other -AKA their bases, "devise a plan and create a universal safe word if you have to."

"I hope you're all awake, because time starts now."

Image "No offense taken. But with similar respect, the same could be said of a Hades child."
It was refreshing to come across someone so wise and Mason nodded with the statement to show, likewise, no offense was taken. "But, you can rest assured when I give someone my word, I follow through," Sylas added taking another grape from his bowl. "And I don't scare easily. I'm not frightened of a little bit of lightening."
Mason found himself nodding again and shrugging. Many would claim so. Jenn wasn't scared of lightening but the psycho bitch cut her head off. If you weren't scared of lightening and submissive to the spawns of Zeus they were particularly hostile because you didn't spoon-feed their massive egos.

"I think allies would be a more appropriate term. Friends aren't really in my wheel house. And no, I don't expect you to just trust me. Trust and friendship is earned... Not freely given."
"That it is."
Giving Sylas another look over Mason guessed they wouldn't evolve to such a stage. Keeping things business or as strictly allies would fit them both best. Worry of each other likely wouldn't come into the picture until after the Valises were gone. But who knew what the future held.

"Well, I mean we could simply just corner one of them... Stab stab. Job's done." Thankfully his lack of enthusiasm demonstrated that was among the most plain ideas and not a real one. "That lacks... Creativity, for lack of a better term. Sure, death is the end goal but we don't want it to be swift and merciful. It's more satisfying destroying someone, breaking them down and ruining them, root and stem."
What did he think Mason was doing? In addition to waiting for the right moment to present itself, he was trying some behind the scenes works. But he liked that Sylas liked the slower route. It was a bit more of a gamble but if it was a job done right, it would be most rewarding.
"I don't know how devious you are... But, I liked the idea of turning everyone they love against them."
Mason actually threw his hands up in the air and gestured to the hall. "Thank you! Finally someone gets it! I know I'm pretty but I haven't been spending my time doing my hair and flossing my teeth and solely thinking of ways to kill them." Mason hadn't exactly been targeting people they love to turn against them either, for the sheer fact that he couldn't even stand to be in radius of a Valis worshiper and they were harder to convert.
Actually, Mason was doing little in truth. He was just being a bit more social and charming and Alex already did the murdering. Mason did have one good asset though, however that was more an ace up the sleeve for him.

After a long moment in thought with his tongue pressed to his cheek, he spoke again. "I wouldn't mind dying to make a point. Providing old Pops brings me back." The camp needed to see the monsters under the surface. That it wasn't a one off thing. Like Sylas he wanted to ruin and bury their reputations and ruin the trust fellow demigods mistakenly placed in them. And sure, just to make it really burn, make their world collapse, turn the people they love against them.

Then, a staff member paced through the hall capturing Mason's attention. As he could have guessed, he was on a mission. Once he gathered everybody's attention, he laid out the task ahead.

It was in moments like so where Mason really had to reflect on his life choices, or certainly the choice of returning to camp and not killing Zeus's kids. Now he was teamed up with the one he despised most of all. At first he was consumed in hatred and distaste but eventually it evolved to a glimpse of opportunity. Extreme capture the flag meant full contact. In this case, it meant letting the demigods run wild like animals. Mason glanced back to Sylas. "Is the boy next door facade still staying on in the heat of competition?" He smirked and got up. Now was the time to see what those twins were made of that so easily slipped under the radar.

His legs carried him there automatically and he was in another head space entirely, even as he wrapped the band around his arm. Except when he had to tune in on the team speech, Mason supposed that might have been important. Important to feign attention in anyway as winning or losing didn't really matter to him. How many rematches could happen down the track, and what did winning really prove? That you had a good team and the right players? That they were lucky? Mason crossed his arms and waited for any outgoing brains to take initiative.

ImageTwo minutes!? Duke paced off to what was temporarily known as the Blue Trojan's base. He wasn't going to hide the flag, leaving that duty instead to the likes of Ajax or better, Seung-min. He pulled a blue bandanna and wrapped it around his forearm.

Duke pressed his tongue to his cheek on his little over-eager team. The hype was good, but they needed a strategy implemented, especially when the opposing team had the likes of Lise and McKenna. "We need defenders, attackers and maybe a mid-field. We also need to consider our biggest threats. Harleen, she's quick, she's deft, you dont want your band taken off you without knowing you've even been touched. Likewise, Andy, military brat and witch, she'll be more confrontational and physical, keep your wits about you. Kalani can seduce you, stay focused. Adrianna, I've never seen her competitive side but I can guess she has one, and not to underestimate her."
He gestured to Mateo because the very same applied to him. Then again who wasn't a threat? He gave up. "Take out the Spartans brains, healers and manipulators first, then deal with the brutes. They probably think we're a confrontational side too, that we're going in with guns blazing, but let's try to be a little more subtle. Travel in pairs if you can. Not attached at the hip though."
If there was an ambush, he’d prefer one teammate to go down and not a collective of them.
"Wes, Raven, Dimitri, Isobel cover the middle, please." Together the four made a disarming pair, and a protective one too if they accessed the right emotions and triggers, and powers of course.
"Emery, Seung-min, Sylas and Evelyn, you're our secret weapons. Aim for the Spartan's flag. Avoid the heat of the battle if you can, use evasive or defensive techniques." The four could get creative. Their gifts and applications were always a surprise and they weren't the type that urged an immediate threat. "Ajax, Trinity; they'll be expecting us. Let's not disappoint." They were probably the renowned biggest war-heads. Without them near the front line of battle, the opposition would get suspicious about their presence.
"Daniel -uh, Keith, stay as a line of defense. Gwendolyn, I think you'd make a strong offense but it depends where you want to go, you'd know where you're best kept. Annie, I think we need you to press forward too. Look after our assault team and stun some opponents. If that makes you uncomfortable, stay back with Keith."
Duke looked between the remainder of Areum and Mateo. The demigods whose attitude he most struggled to grasp. Daniel needed some help in defense, but he felt their usefulness could be better spent elsewhere. In the middle as both offensive and defensive forces.

Then he caught himself, swept up in heat of the moment. "That's my suggestion anyway," he said so the more sensitive didn't kick up a fuss about him taking lead on a strategy or 'ordering them around'. After all, he was no child of Athena or son of Zeus. "Anybody else got an idea?"

ImageKeith tried not to be so evaluating and calculating of the new state of camp. It seemed to bustle with a few more energetic bodies than last year and definitely a few more brooding faces and vibes. He felt his heart sink in the knowledge that it'd be hard to make friends. There seemed so little room for the socially awkward and everybody else already had established their "clique".

Sometimes the camp could be exceptionally boring and dull, but that was something he simply had to endure like everyone else and hope the next day would be more rewarding. His degree of boredom would just be more though. His lips pressed in a line and he plucked out his earphones and shuffled through his phone for a tune that could ignite his soul. Keith smiled slightly when he found it. Some would argue it was a little too swaggerish for him but part of him really liked it and had a guilty pleasure listening to JT.

The son of Hecate traveled through camp territory for another year of learning and fighting evil, having to suppress the urge to walk in rhythmic bounces and pull some Michael Jackson move. He made his way to hall, typically the central congregation point of people, new and regular. That, plus some staff waved him over to and pointed to it.

Some larger species of male had bumped him. "Daniel," they said casually, but he was bowing to the ground to retrieve his glasses that were knocked down on impact. He carefully placed them back on the bridge of his nose, surprised to see the brute had actually taken to stop and staring. For a round two, he prayed not.
Keith slowly rose and for some time it seemed they just stared at each other. "I'm sorry," Keith said finally and spun on his heel to take an extended detour. It wasn't worth getting his teeth knocked out and he didn't want to cause any trouble. Keith had spent some time in the gym on his holidays and become a bit more solid in build, but it was nothing that girls would second look or enough to engage in a fist-fight confidently. The hall would still be there too. He wasn't missing anything.

When he slid into the hall an announcement was happening, and he shrunk into the wall then nestled into a corner and slowly pulled out his earplugs. An extreme mandatory capture the flag...what could go wrong. Inside, Keith wanted to die there and then or dissolve into a puddle. It was like high school P.E class and the untalented still had to participate even when no one really wanted them on the team, and they didn't really want to participate, and the teachers were the only ones that thought it was a good idea in the entire universe. He sighed out and was the first to exit the hall and make his way to blue base.

Duke started rattling off a plan, and while he was smart and confident and that was semi-contagious when it came to his plan, Keith was super insecure about being the last line of defense by guarding the base especially by his lonesome. That was enough pressure for him to develop a twitch and have a nervous breakdown. But externally, there was no more displayed than light levels of anxiety.

Just as Theo had turned his flirting with Gwen all the way up, one of the camp directors came through the door and explained how the game of capture the flag would work. He rolled his eyes as Gwen was not among his teammates. As the director finished, Theo's mind immediately started spinning with ideas as he grabbed a map from a table nearby . His eyes widened as he saw which side of camp his squad had. He cracked a slight smile. They had the water at their back over by the Poseidon cabins. As his mind surveyed the landmarks of the camp he had completely memorized, he knew there was a certain rock formation on the shore that a person could hide in. His idea involved hiding the flag in the rock crevice.

He looked around at his group. Surely the newer campers would look to the veterans to formulate a game plan considering their more extensive knowledge of camp and their experience in battle. That left it up to Theo, Mason, Andy, and Alex. Theo decided it would be good time for him to step up. Mason was definitely not the type to tell everyone what to do. Andy would probably go along with anything as long as her talents were properly utilized. Alex was a Zeus child, but Theo knew she trusted him. Theo liked the opportunity to step up, and he didn't doubt that Alex would allow it. She might do her own thing out there regardless of the plan, but Theo knew for sure she could handle herself.

With that Theo stepped into the middle of the awkward circle they had formed as they got out of ear shot of the other team. "Okay, so here is what I am thinking. We have the shore on our side. Finley, you know that rock formation out by the cabin with the crevice surrounded by the taller rocks? I think we could hide the flag there. You could pull the tide out the the formation to make it even more complicated to search around there. After the flag is hidden, we need attackers and defenders. Dominick, I think you should stay back and help Finley defend the flag for sure. You could even hard freeze the water in the crevice with the flag in the very middle of the ice. That would buy us some time even if they manage to get to the flag because they would have to get it out of the ice.

Ji-Hyun, Sloane, Atticus, Adrianna, Kalani, and Nik... you guys should stay back on this side to defend. My best idea would be for you guys to pair off. This way if anyone gets in a sticky situation they always have someone to help them out. The longer we keep as many people in the game as we can, the better off we are. Two more of you should probably stay close by the flag with Dom and Fin, but the others pairs should post up somewhere else on their natural path to the flag. Think of an alert system and communicate with each other back here. As the game closes in on the flag you guys can work your way back. Right now try to defend the territory as a whole and knock a few people out. I can almost guarantee you Ajax, Duke, and Trinity are coming this way. Be ready. I'm not sure who else will be attacking though.

Andy, Alex, McKenna, Harleen, Elias, Mason, Lise, and myself would probably be best as attackers. I think we should probably go in pairs too. Think about who could complement you well. Elias I think I'd like to pair with you. I can go from high place to high place covering your back as you control things in close range on the ground. We should all spread out and canvas the area, looking for the flag, and trying to knock out their defenders. We need a signal too in case someone finds the flag or gets in trouble. Harleen, do your thing. Make their heads spin and if you have a run at the flag then get some cover and go for it. Lise and Mason... the two of you are probably the sneakiest of all of us. Try to pair up with someone aggressive who can cover you. When we find the flag, we need to go all in after the thing while the two of you try to slip in and slip away with the flag. Everyone else, let's put on a show. I think we have the better team here. Be patient. If we can knock several of their players out early, we will be in great shape. Be cautious with who you get into a fight with though. We need everyone out there as long as possible. Have fun. Stay focused. Be smart. Play to your strengths. If you can manipulate their minds, use that. If you can fight it our or shoot it out like me, use those things too. Remember, snatching their band might be easier than winning a fight. I think we can really win this thing. Anyone got any ideas for signals or anything else?"

Theo took a deep breath and looked around at his comrades for the day, satisfied with his plan, trying to judge if everyone else was too. He kept a positive tone, and he tried to make sure he didn't sound like a dictator.

Emery had no idea why Theo had needed her to act as go-between. It was clear that Gwen found him cute, and they seemed to be getting along well, if a little nervous. She let Theo slap her on the back without any complaint, then busied herself finishing the rest of her breakfast, tuning out from their conversation.

A piercing whistle pulled her from her own thoughts, and she raised her head, fixing her attention on Alaric as he announced the teams for capture the flag. Emery grinned brightly when the list of the Trojans was read out, holding her hand up to Gwen for a high five. "I hope you're all awake, because time starts now."

"Sweet! Sorry you're not with us, Theo." She turned to her brother, turning her deer-in-the-headlights look up to ten. "Take it easy on us, okay? Then we can kick your ass faster." Just as quickly, the wide-eyed look disappeared, replaced by a wicked grin. "Come on, Gwen!"

After depositing her used cutlery at the collection point, Emery joined the rest of the Trojans at their base, grabbing a blue bandanna and tying it around her wrist as she listened to Duke plan a strategy. "Emery, Seung-min, Sylas, and Evelyn, you're our secret weapons. Aim for the Spartans' flag. Avoid of the heat of the battle if you can, use evasive or defensive techniques."

She had no complaint with that - it was a fairly sound strategy, given what they were working with. Looking around at the other three, she thought they'd be pretty good at their assigned roles. Maybe she could ask Sylas if he wanted to pair up, they could have each other's back - "I believe I belong on the front lines with you, Trinity and Ajax." Well, there went her plans. Emery frowned to herself. Given his abilities, maybe he wouldn't be the best at the front - he didn't seem as physically able as either of the frontliners.

But that was his choice, she supposed. Turning to Gwen, she touched her friend lightly on the arm to get her attention. "Hey. Guess I'll be seeing you later. Hopefully when we're standing victorious over the Spartans' slain and defeated number.." Smiling to show she was only joking, Emery moved to stand near Evelyn, just as the redhead spoke up requesting physical contact. Figuring it couldn't hurt, Emery reached out to hold Evelyn's hand, making note of how everything seemed a little brighter and clearer.

Then Evelyn left on her own, which meant only Emery and Seung-min remained. Come to think of it, a Hermes kid could be helpful to her too.

"Do you want to pair up? If you can transport people we could move fairly quickly - and I'm good with a weapon so I could cover you. Provided we find any weapons." She paused. Her fingers itched to curl around a knife or bow. She'd even settle for a makeshift spear. And therein lay her weakness - while still adept at physical combat, she wouldn't really be working at her best without a weapon. "Well. Even if I can't get one, I can heal and I'm good at tracking. It might not be hard to find their flag if we can look at how they're defending and find the center. And be fast, of course."

She began heading towards the woods, walking backwards so she was still facing Seung-min. "So what say you and I get out of this place and go defeat some demigods?"

Some hours later Ji-hyun finally deigned it time to roll out of bed and swap his clothes out for a much more practical outfit, reluctantly folding his overlarge sweater and leaving it at the foot of his bed. It was so soft, and so warm. The woods would be awful.

Just as he'd pulled his shirt over his head, a light tap came at the door. He reached out and opened it, tugging his shirt down over his stomach.

"Areum! Good morning."

It was weird, having a sister. Ji-hyun's experiences with siblings were formed with his brother, all teasing jibes and throwing things at each other's head. Usually they were rougher with each other - looking at Areum all dainty, Ji-hyun supposed she probably wasn't expecting any of the same treatment.

Upon remembering his brother, a small stab of pain shot through his chest. Ji-ha would have loved having a sister, another sibling to love and take care of.

Ji-hyun put that thought away carefully. It wouldn't help to dwell on the past, and anyway here Areum was, right now.

"Are you going down to breakfast? Thanks for coming to get me." He shut the door behind him, stepping out into the sunlight. Already it was irritating, too warm and too dry outside, and he could imagine it would only get worse as the day progressed.

He didn't say much as they walked down to the dining hall, trying to let Areum have the space to talk. Once they'd reached the hall, he pulled out a chair for her. "I'll grab some food for us, what do you want to eat?" he offered. His breakfast was simple, the same thing he ate almost every morning since arriving at camp - an omelette, a croissant, and a strong cup of tea.

Placing the food gently on the table, he slid in opposite Areum. "So how are you finding camp so far? I'd wager we don't experience it the same way, say, Ares or Zeus kids do. All this running around and mock battling." He rolled his eyes, exaggerating the expression. It wasn't really a complaint. He wasn't suffering, and if some physical activity was what he had to do to find people like him... it was a trade he didn't mind so much.

And speaking of people like him... "What are the odds we're both Korean, huh? Come this far, join a camp of people with different godly heritage - and it turns out there's a whole handful of us from the same home country." He chuckled dryly. The difference was, she was a rich kid from the city, and he was just an orphan from the countryside, barely able to care for his remaining relative. "Do you miss home?"

Having finished his breakfast as he listened to Areum, he tilted the almost-empty teacup this way and that, offering it to his sister. "Shall I read your fortune? It's a little party trick I've been practicing."

Before he could follow through with the offer, though, a camp facilitator entered and began rattling off a list of teams and rules. Ji-hyun groaned quietly, smiling as he set the cup down. "They've set us on different teams, huh? Well. I hope we don't have to engage each other in combat anytime soon. Have fun." So saying, he reached out to touch the back of Areum's hand gently, then left to join his team.

Listening to strategies being shared around, he began to get an idea of what he had to do. Defense wasn't such a bad position, and he could use his abilities that way too. "I might have some trouble holding my own against Ajax or Trinity, but I could suggest that they take it easy on us, if they get too close. And the beasts can't harm us if they're asleep." He held up a hand and wiggled his fingers, surprising himself by grinning wickedly. "Kalani, I think I could help you with that."

Well, sitting around and waiting for people to cross his path was less than thrilling for Wes. He lost track of how much time he spent high up in the branches, yet no one crossed his path. He'd come to accept that the chances of him capturing the flag were slim to none. But, he also felt like sitting around there doing nothing wasn't helpful either. Maybe if he were lucky, he could get a person's colors or two before his own is taken and he gets knocked out.

With a sigh, Wes slid his spear behind him between his back and shield. Then he began a very awkward and clumsy decent down the tree. When he was several feet above the ground, he lost his grasp and subconsciously his mind tried to make his right arm grab a branch to stable himself. But like a phantom limb, he felt the movement but nothing happened beside his nub flailing as he fell backwards, landing with a thud on his back.

Wes let out a loud gasp as the wind was knocked out of him. His hand clutched to his chest as he remained on the ground. After a long moment, he groaned, staring up at the large tree above him. He could now cross climbing a tree off his short list of talents.

Sounds of rustling in near by bushes and the breaking of twigs caught his attention, when he'd much rather lay on the ground until the game was over. He propped himself up on his elbow, but froze when he went to stand, feeling a breath exhaled on the back of his neck. Trying not to make any sudden movements, he slowly glanced over his shoulder to be met by a large snout less than a foot from his face. He gave a nervous laugh as the beast growled at him. Wes held up his hand in an innocent, surrendering manner.

"Easy now," he said in a soft, hushed tone. Wes made sure each word was smooth like silk, slipping through his lips similar to a siren song. But his subtle tactics didn't seem to work. Thankfully the beast didn't attack him, but it didn't stop growling or loosen its intimidating stance.

As calmly as he could manage, Wes shifted so that he was in a crouching position, with his hand still held out. He made sure not to make direct eye contact as he slowly extended his hand toward the creature. "Now, that's a good boy," he said, inching closer to the hound. But the second boy left his lips, the beast's nails dug into the dirt and a deep growl rubbled in its throat. "Girl, girl... That's what I meant."

Wes took a deep breath, turning his gaze toward the hound's. He extended the fingers on his hand as his palm was near the animals snout. While he spoke, he allowed loving, caring and protective emotions flow into the animal. "Of course you're a girl. You're too pretty to be a boy." He smiled slightly as he compelled her to concede and relax.

It was gradual. Wes could see the tension leave the hound as her growl slowly grew quieter and quieter until it all together stopped. When she seemed calm, he made the final move, placing his hand upon her snout. With that touch, a warmth spread out from his hand into the animal. And then, with just a brush of his thumb against her fur, her backside fell to the ground with a thud as she sat down. The hound's tail began to wag as she placed a rather large, sloppy, smelly lick across his face.

Wes sighed, allowing himself to fall to his knees and relax. He scratched the large beast's head and rubbed her ears. "That's a good girl." There was a sound not too far off of a twig snapping. Like a switch, the beast's ears perked up and she moved in front of Wes protectively, growling in the direction of the sound.

Wes hopped to his feet, quickly moving beside the hound, placing his hand on her back. "It's alright." He then carefully climbed onto her back. Once situated, he leaned forward, patting her side. "Wanna help me find a flag?" Her tail wagged affectionately as she awaited his direction. "Alright girl, lets go." Without a moments hesitation, the beast barreled off into the woods with Wes on her back, heading in the direction of the Spartan's flag.

"Sounds like we're not alone," Andy heard from behind her. "I give it... 30 seconds before whatever that is decides to join us. So, how about you hand over your colors now and make it easier on the both of us." The voice was familiar, but not familiar enough for her to place who it was. She stood still while her right hand slowly moved toward her thigh holster. As she felt the prick of a sword against the back of her neck, she moved into action. In a swift move, her right hand grabbed a throwing knife between her index and middle finger. She spun on her heels, grabbing his blade in her left hand, yanking it to the side, aiming it away from her.

Andy came to face her attacker, Sylas. She raised her right hand, pressing the knife to his throat while she held a firm grip on his sword, keeping it at her side. "Didn't Mason tell you, him and I are basically masters at fighting beasts." She tapped her knife against his neck while smiling. "I'm content as a cucumber waiting until it makes its presence."

Sylas took a threatening step forward so that his chest was against Andy's as he glanced down at her. He smirked a sadistic grin, tauntingly pressing his neck back against her blade. After all, him and Mason agreed to be allies... Not friends. There were no boundaries set when it came to the daughter of Hecate. He was itching at the chance to see what she was worth, to see what the deal was with this seemingly ordinary girl. Sylas wanted to size her up, and if roughing her up got him bad standings with Mason, well so be it. After all, he wasn't here to make friends anyways.

"So... That hard way it is."

Sylas didn't hesitate. He grabbed Andy's wrist, pulling it away from his throat while he yanked his sword from her grasp. If she didn't know better, she would have thought he sliced open her hand. She glanced down for just a moment finding her palm unharmed, yet the pain continued. Enchanted weapons, she reminded herself. When she brought her attention back to Sylas, he was swinging his sword through the air, the blade aiming right for her neck. Andy stepped back, bending backwards. She watched as the sword passed overhead, nearly clipping the tip of her nose.

Andy quickly stood upright and threw her right foot into his chest. The momentum sent Sylas stumbling backwards. While off kilter, she threw a knife at his right hand. When the blade hit him, he winced, dropping his sword. She then dove forward, reaching for his colors but just before she could grab it, Sylas grabbed her wrist and twisted it. The uncomfortable position and force of his hold knocked her down on her knees. While she was down, he raised his fist and slammed it down on her, smashing into her nose.

When he went to punch her again, Andy moved her head out of the way, sweeping her foot behind his legs. Once she knocked him to the ground, she raised her hand to her nose, wincing when she touched it. As she pulled her hand away, she looked down seeing her fingers covered in blood. Something in her gut told her that Sylas had no intention in keeping this fight as a friendly spar. Before he could attempt to get back up, Andy quickly moved on top of him. She elbowed him once in the gut and upper cut him in the jaw. Then she grabbed his hands, pinning him down on the ground.

Sylas chuckled. "You have some fight in you." Even pinned, he threw his head forward, slamming his forehead against her nose again. He could feel the bone in her nose snap on collision. But it wasn't enough to throw her off of him, if anything it just made her angrier. "It all makes sense now."

"What are you talking about?" Andy hissed, digging her knee into his abdomen.

"I get it now... What Ajax and Mason see in you."

The comment made her freeze. Andy could feel the blood dripping down her lips from her broken nose as she stared down at Sylas. It was one thing when this was in her thoughts, but hearing someone else... Someone who knows nothing about her, or them, say what has been nagging at the back of her head... It twisted her gut. Before she could say anything else, she heard a scream in the distance that sounded like Alex's. The noise distracted her enough for Sylas to overpower her, flipping her over so that he was now pinning her.

That must have been the end of their 30 seconds because the beast burst out of the bushes and charged for them. Andy watched it get closer when the idea hit her. Just at the right moment, she focused her power on Sylas, throwing him in the air into the wake of the beast. The hound rammed into him and slammed him into a tree. With him distracted, Andy jumped to her feet and ran off into the woods in the direction of the scream. She wasn't the type to jump at helping Alex, but she knew what her screams meant... Mason and that meant Ajax wouldn't be far behind.

Andy sprinted through the woods, jumping over tree roots and ducking under tree branches. As she ran, her hand would raise up to wipe blood that dripped from her nose, wincing whenever she bumped the tender bone. It wasn't long before she came out into a small clearing. From the distance, it looked like everyone was calm, until Ajax moved toward Mason, Alex took the opportunity to move on him. Without hesitation, Andy ran over toward them, putting herself between Alex and Mason.

Alex's fist nearly hit Mason, and herself on recoil. Andy turned to face Mason, but with her attention on him she wasn't able to see Alex thrashing behind her as Ajax held her back. As she writhed in her brother's hold, one of Alex's kicks slammed into Andy's jaw. The forced knocked her off balance, causing her to stumble into Mason. Her left hand stabled herself against her friend, while her right hand raised to hold her jaw as she glanced over her shoulder at Alex with wide eyes.

"How about you tell everyone the truth?" Alex shouted like a mad woman. "Tell them what really happened, you piece of shit!"

Fed up everything, Andy turned around to face Alex. "Will you ever learn to stop accusing people of things before you have proof?" She shrugged her shoulders, sniffling from her bloody nose. "What has Mason supposedly lied about? There is nothing to lie about. You murdered Jennova... In cold blood, without any proof that she did what you claimed she did." She motioned toward Mason. "He has every right to want you dead. You have no idea what it is like to have lost a sibling... He has to live everyday with her murderer right in front of him. Do you think that's easy?" Andy cocked her head to the side.

She was tired of being the nice guy, never speaking her mind. She always tried to stop the fighting and kept her opinions to herself. But, she couldn't any longer. "This all," Andy motioned her hands toward all of them. "Is your fault... Two of the most important people in my life, can't stop trying to kill each other because of you." She sighed, shaking her head slightly. "The world doesn't revolve around you, Alex. Maybe you should think about that next time, before you try to kill someone else."

Her gaze drifted toward Ajax, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "She's never going to learn from her mistakes if you keep helicoptering. She made her bed," she said, motioning her hand toward Alex. "Now she has to lie in it." With nothing else to say, Andy wiped her bloody nose on the back of her hand. She slowly pivoted on her heels until she was half turned toward Mason.

Heeding Theo's directions, Sloane lingered back back while everyone quickly split off in their different directions. She glanced around at the other defensive teammates, then at the flag that was out in the open. With a sighed, she grabbed it and looked over toward Ji-hyun. "Neither one of us are... fighters." She rubbed the back of her neck, then motioned her head up in the trees. "If we put the flag high up in the tree, then it might give us enough time to do our... thing before they reach it."

Sloane wasn't a strategist, but it was something. All the offensive people were off doing their thing and who knew what half of the defensive people were doing. So, she took it upon herself to find a home for the flag that at least benefitted herself and Ji-hyun. To the best of her knowledge, the only person on the other team who could fly is Ajax... So, as long as they were prepared for that, the height of the flag would give them both more than enough time for either Ji-hyun to make them pass out or for Sloane to do... Something.

She tucked the flag into the back of her belt and walked over to the tree. "Watch my back?" she asked Ji-hyun before she began ascending the tree. Sloane was by no means the most active, but she made it to the top fairly easy. She found a branch that extended out farther than the others so that the flag would be visible... After all, that was the rule of capture the flag. Once it was secured, she climbed back down to rejoin her teammate.

Sloane dusted off her hands as she stood there awkwardly beside Ji-hyun. She definitely was not the most social person, but in a game like this, she didn't really have a choice. After a moment, she blew air out between her lips and looked over at him. "So... If either you can make them sleep, or I can manipulate their perceived reality... Hopefully that should buy us enough time until someone else grabs their flag. Right?"

When Seung-min began following her, Emery knew she had the partnership she wanted. The younger boy's enthusiasm was infectious, and she felt herself mirroring his smile as she led him further into the woods.

"So what I'm thinking is, can you take us closer to the other side? If we can let them see us in different places almost at once -" and here she jabbed the air in front of her, demonstrating how the spread out members of the opposite team would all see the pair at almost the same time "- they might panic. Then, either they'll leave the flag less guarded to deal with the intruders, and we can do a quick search of the area, or more likely, they'll back up towards the flag, and we can follow them to find the flag. If we're quick we might not have to engage too many hostiles."

As she spoke, Emery reached the edge of Trojan territory, entering a small clearing. Tucked into the low crook of a tree, barely visible, was a simple recurve bow and a set of arrows in a quiver. Not very many, but she could make do. "Hold on a moment," she directed Seung-min, pulling herself up into the crook to retrieve the weapons. Slipping the strap of the quiver over her shoulders, she found that it fit nicely, and the bow, though basic, was sturdy.

She turned to jump back down, and froze. Barely out of the shadows on the far side, one of the beasts was entering the clearing. "Seung-min, I need you to stay still," she murmured, lowering herself so she was almost squatting, still perched in the crook of the tree. "I can take it. But I don't want to waste what I have."

"Neither one of us are... fighters."

Ji-hyun turned to face the source of the voice, meeting Sloane's unsettlingly large eyes. "You can say that again." He rolled his shoulders, scrunching his face up as he stifled a yawn. "The other team would snap me like a twig in two minutes, and then the Spartans would be down a genius." He tapped his temple, rolling his eyes heavenward with a 'what-can-anyone-do-about-it' sort of half-smile.

He listened attentively as Sloane outlined her plan, then nodded. Positioning himself at the base of the tree, he diligently kept lookout - all relatively peaceful, for now.

Turning his attention back to her when he heard her land on the ground beside him, he leaned back slightly until he was resting against the trunk, crossing his arms. "So... If either you can make them sleep, or I can manipulate their perceived reality... Hopefully that should buy us enough time until someone else grabs their flag. Right?"

"Right." Ji-hyun looked around, assessing their surroundings. "I think I can take anyone that gets too close, as long as they don't snap me, as I said before. How far can your, ah, illusions reach? Because, if you could plant a few flags around the area, or even a few of those beasts to keep any approaching Trojan occupied for a little while, it could buy us more time. Or you could just mask our flag from their sight. Is that cheating?" He gestured at the flag above their heads, the only splash of red fairly visible amongst the green.

Having contributed his bit to strategy, he slipped back into casual Ji-hyun again, his smile returning. "Sorry. I might be accused of not pulling my weight if I didn't try to make this a little harder for the Trojans. So now that's out of the way - how are you? I don't see you socialising much around camp - can't say the same for your brother." He peered at her face for a moment, then shrugged. "But I have little to complain about, I could say the same for myself. How are you adjusting?"

"Or I can just... stand here and shut up."

Emery hardly heard Seung-min, so intent was she on the beast. She wanted to see how well it worked - call it a trial she could afford, but if she could speak to and command the beasts their situation would improve considerably.

"Hi," she whispered, reaching a tentative hand out, wiggling her fingers slightly. With the other hand supporting her, she swung her legs down and onto the forest floor, her eyes fixed on the beast. "Oh, don't mind him, he's just a friend. Like you and me, right?" She kept her tone encouraging, and in response it growled lowly and moved a little closer, ignoring Seung-min. "That's right... I know it's your job, but couldn't you make us an exception? I doubt anyone else speaks your language the way I do, plus we're friends now."

She was rewarded with a low purr, and it bumped her hand with its forehead, nuzzling against her fingertips. "Awesome. It was great meeting you - I've got my own job to do, but we can talk later, okay?" Another growl, another bump against her fingers, and the beast turned and bounded back into the trees.

Emery straightened up, smiling at Seung-min. She'd had confidence it would work, but actually being able to exercise her abilities was exciting every time. "Always better to make a new friend, don't you think? Anyway - let's keep moving." Holding her newfound weapon loosely by her side, she headed back into the trees.

"And, Seung-min? That does sound pretty badass."

Different was an understatement, in Ji-hyun's view, but he thought it summed up camp nicely. As for Sloane and her brother...

"You do know you're allowed to create experiences apart from your brother?" he said gently. "You're allowed to be your own person, even while you're with him. Especially when you're with him." He paused for a moment, concerned he'd overstepped his boundaries. "Anyway, I'm just speaking from personal experience. I have an older brother - for the first decade of my life I wanted to be just like him, wanted to do everything he did, until I got down to figuring out who I was when he wasn't around. I know a little about getting your identity mixed up with your sibling's." He fell silent again.

Maybe it should have been had. Could Ji-hyun still be a younger brother if his brother was dead? But he didn't know for sure. After all those years, he was by all means an only child. And yet, he still thought himself a younger brother, defined by the existence of someone older, someone perhaps dead.

Identities were weird. Ji-hyun shook himself hard, trying to focus for once. He managed a smile.

"Just my two cents."

"From what? It was just a scratch," Trinity responded once Wes had finished addressing her wound. The makeshift bandage wasn’t perfect or pretty, but it did the job. Sure, it wasn’t a deadly wound or anything like that. But, that didn’t mean Wes enjoyed seeing her bleed. He usually wasn’t much help, more of a hinderance, but at least this was something he could help with. Small, but it was something.

After he had mounted his beast and offered his blonde partner in crime his hand, Trinity stared between him and the hound. “I…” Wes’ brows furrowed as she seemed to be apprehensive. "I don't think that's a good idea. I've got like....its cousin's blood on me," she muttered.

Wes sighed, rolling his eyes in a teasing manner. When Trinity called the beast an it a gentle growl rumbled in the hound’s throat. "She," he corrected, then held up his index finger. "Hold up, It was you who told me to use my abilities, blondie… And now that I have…" Wes’ voiced trailed off as he let his hand fall to the beast’s neck, petting it softly. There was no winning with Trinity.

"I promise I'll be beh-" Trinity started before the sound of something off in the distance cut her off. Wes’ beast dug her claws into the dirt, lowering her body toward the ground ready to pounce. She growled, sniffing and scanning the tree line around them. "I'll catch up," she said toward him in a hushed tone. Before Wes could reply she was off investigating the noise.

The little voice in Wes’ head said something along the lines of ’Go, Wes. She can take care of herself and your one-armed self will just get in the way.’ But did he listen to that? Nope. But instead of following after her, he held his ground. He figured either someone as clumsy as himself was trying to run from him and his beast… Well, mostly the beast, Wes wasn’t much of a threat. Or it was a diversion to distract or separate them.

After a few moments of weighing his options, Wes opted to hold his ground where he was. It’d be easiest for Trinity to find him. And, he didn’t want to piss her off by following her… orrrrr go too far away so that he was unable to help if needed. He adjusted himself on top of the beast, then reached over his back and grabbed his spear. As he readied himself, Wes felt his beast stir beneath him. Even if he wanted to follow after Trin, the creature didn’t. Something about her wanted to stay right where they were… That wasn’t good.

Evelyn’s eyes narrowed at his comment, no doubt she wasn’t thrilled at the first words to come out of Sylas’ mouth. But did he care? Part of it was out of pride. It was below him to thank anyone, especially a woman, for helping him. Did he ask for help? No. If he died? Well, so be it. But, he wouldn’t have died.

"I’m going to translate that to thank you."

Ah, she was smarter than she looked. There was no way the words would cross his lips and Evelyn didn’t seem like she expected it either. He walked in step with her deciding it’d probably be better if they stayed grouped up, at least for the time being. But his steps were slow as the pain in his leg flared whenever he put weight on it. Sylas wasn’t in a rush to go chasing after the flag. He was in the game for the blood and battle, not glory. Glory is for the weak who need reassurance.

"No. Things have been quiet for me," she replied to his question. It wasn’t surprising. It’s not like they were all guaranteed to have run ins with the other team or beasts. Plus, large groups attracted more attention… Look at Ajax, Alex, Mason and Andy. Case and point.

"So in future, for you to avoid disappointment again, do I let you become a beast's chew toy?"

Sylas quirked a brow, turning his head toward her slightly. For some reason, whenever people seemed unafraid or not effected by a glimpse at his true self, he always became intrigued. "I do prefer my head attached to my shoulders," he first replied with a slight sarcastic tone. Then after a moment, he let his eyes look forward while he took on a more serious tone. "I wouldn’t blame you… or hold some grudge if you left me to die."

He glanced over at her briefly then continued. "Everyone at this camp is so worried about being a hero. Save a life. Do the heroic thing. No matter the consequences… Sometimes the braver thing to do is to not be a hero. What’s the point if it’d get yourself killed in the process?"

Sylas shrugged his shoulders. It was the raw truth. Heroes are dangerous… Some people are beyond saving. Helping them would only get yourself killed in the process. Call it selfish, but selflessness is weakness. Heroes can’t make a difference when they are dead. "The drowning man will always drag someone down with him."

Andy sat on the steps to the main hall until the ice in her rag melted, dripping blood stained water down her forearm as she held it to her face. It was surprising. She expected to see more campers eliminated, doing their walk of shame to the hall. But she only saw a few stragglers. At least no one tried to talk to her. She was grateful for that… But at the same time, she would have been happy with someone distracting her.

When her nose had long stopped bleeding and the coolness of the rag turned lukewarm, Andy finally stood. She slowly ascended the stairs and went back into the hall. She froze for a minute in the doorway when her gaze met Ajax’s. Then not a moment after they met, Andy’s head fell with her eyes locked on her feet as she beelined for the kitchen.

She tried her best to rinse the blood from the rag, but once she realized it was a lost cause, Andy just tossed it into the trash. With a sigh she looked up into the mirror. It could have been worst… Definitely could have been better but Andy still looked like Andy. The bridge of her nose was swollen and covered in a field of purple and blue that branched out beneath her eyes. But it wasn’t crooked, which luckily meant it wouldn’t need to be re-broken. It was just ugly. She could live with ugly.

Andy had half a mind to leave the hall and spend the remainder of the day in her cabin. She was prideful, and didn’t feel like dealing with anyone. But the part of her that wanted the comfort of a friend outweighed her stubbornness and pride. With a sigh, she weaved her way through the tables, her feet subconsciously carrying her over toward Mason’s table.

She slowly moved herself into the seat beside Mason. Andy didn’t say anything or even look over to meet his gaze. After a long moment of silence, she let herself lean against him, resting her head on his shoulder. "… Your new friend fucked up my face," Andy finally said, barely louder than a whisper. It wasn’t much, but it broke the silence.

"You do know you're allowed to create experiences apart from your brother?” Ji-hyun said gently. The comment took Sloane a little by surprise, causing her brows to furrow slightly. "You're allowed to be your own person, even while you're with him. Especially when you're with him."

He then paused briefly. Maybe it was to check her reaction, but Sloane didn’t say anything. She remained silent, just looking toward Ji-hyun as he finished. "Anyway, I'm just speaking from personal experience. I have an older brother - for the first decade of my life I wanted to be just like him, wanted to do everything he did, until I got down to figuring out who I was when he wasn't around. I know a little about getting your identity mixed up with your sibling’s.

"Just my two cents."

"I don’t want to be anything like my brother," Sloane snapped, nearly talking over him. The moment after the words left her lips she winced, instantly wanting to take it back and regretting her tone with Ji-hyun. She didn’t mean to be rude, but being compared to her brother turned her stomach… And terrified her. Her gaze fell her to her hands while her voiced grew quiet. "…Sorry."

Sloane was silent for a long moment. She knew Ji-hyun was only trying to help. From what she could tell he seemed like the kind of person who never tried to put a toe out of order… The type that couldn’t harm a fly. She sighed softly. "It’s complicated…" She chewed on her lip while tapping her finger tips on her leg. "But I’m not like my brother." That’s all she could say. Sloane always had to be careful with her words, especially where her brother was concerned. Not only for her own safety but for others as well. It was best no one knew the truth… This facade Sylas created hid his true monster, and if that mask kept it at bay then she’d prefer it remained.

They advanced through the forest together, Emery taking delight in feeling the occasional dead leaf crunch under her running shoes. Despite her shorts, no bugs bothered Emery, for which she was grateful. She didn't really feel like having to deal with mosquitoes in their death throes. She noted Seung-min's uncharacteristic silence with some interest. She didn't think that he was the kind capable of quashing the urge to carry a conversation at any one time.

"So..."

Emery smiled to herself. There it was.

"I know you're a pretty chill person, but other than that, I don't know too much about you. Like, where are you from?" The question caught her off guard. Where she was from... that was a hard question. Thurmont, where she was born? Or Gautier, where she was raised? Or Harahan, Lake City, Aurora, any of the places she'd been shunted to before she'd finally come to camp? Nowhere seemed right. If anything, maybe she could be grateful that the St Johns were many, that at least she'd always had somewhere to stay.

"...I'm from many different places," she finally said, aware that Seung-min was waiting for an answer. "From many different states, raised by many different people... My grandma tried to teach me a Southern accent, but it didn't really stick, not completely." She was suddenly conscious of how different her English was from Seung-min, his smooth and polite, hers drawn out and roiling. Having learned the accent from her grandmother aside, she'd had the habit of trying to incorporate other accents into her speech, in an attempt to fit in, except that it only contributed to the amalgation of identities that she defined herself by.

A breeze swept through the trees, ruffling Emery's hair. She looked up, just in time to see dark clouds rolling in. Lightning flashed once, a clap of thunder, and a fat drop of rain hit her cheek, rolling down her neck, leaving a freezing trail in its wake. Despite herself, she shivered. Probably just bad luck... or one of the Zeus kids duking it out? She turned to Seung-min. "Don't know about you, but I'd rather not let the rain slow us down. Shall we zip up ahead, speed this game up?"

"I don't want to be anything like my brother."

Whatever response Ji-hyun hoped his little pep talk (if being melancholy about one's possibly-dead brother could count as a pep talk) would elicit, this was not it. Sloane's outburst caught him by surprise, and he blinked, stared at her, wondered what he had said to elicit such a show of emotion. Okay, well, emotion was good, even if it was what seemed to be fear and annnoyance - but in the next instant she'd dropped her gaze and backed off. "...Sorry."

She sounded like she had something more to say, so Ji-hyun kept quiet, continuing to watch her. But all she had to offer was "It's complicated... But I'm not like my brother." He nodded in response, tilting his chin at her.

"That's exactly my point, Sloane. I know you're not." His tone made it clear that they would have to talk further on the subject if she didn't want to, and to make it easier on her he turned away, pretending to be scanning their surroundings for approaching Trojans.

Thunder caught his attention, and he turned his face skywards, eyeing the heavy clouds warily. He would not put it past Ajax to utilise his powers to obscure his teammates from view as they stole their flag. Well, two could play at that game - though it meant that he'd have to get his butt in gear.

Ji-hyun took a step towards his partner, hand outstretched. "Well, pains me to say this, but we've got work to do. May I enhance your perception a little? And I don't suppose you know your way around a weapon?"

Wes was hesitant to do anything at that moment, his hand gripping tight to the spear. Trinity was off on her own following some sound, while he held his ground. This didn't look bad or anything. He turned his attention in the direction of where the blonde wondered. For a good while he didn't see her, but then something zipped by. He caught only glimpses of movement between Trinity and someone else. And before he could join to help her, Harleen finally came into focus, holding Trin's blue band.

"Shit," Wes cursed under his breath. He was on his own now and wasn't going to stick around for her to get the jump on him as well. "To the flag," he whispered to the beast as he gave her a quick nudge in her sides with his heels. He quickly slid his spear between his back and shield, freeing up his hand to hold tight to the animal's mane. It was probably stupid... No, undoubtedly stupid. But he figured if he was going to get knocked out, he'd rather it be going for the flag than sitting on his hands... hand.

"That's exactly my point, Sloane. I know you're not." And Ji-Hyun left it at that. It was rare for people not to pry into the meaning behind Sloane's words. Instead he took them for what they were, allowing her to continue or remain silent if she wanted. She appreciated that.

"Thanks," was all she could manage to say. It wasn't much, but it was something. No one has ever really told her she was her own person. Yes, she knew that, but hearing someone else say it... Now that was a first. Her mother was always telling her she could be great, better than Sylas ever hoped to be, but she didn't want that either. Sloane just wanted a chance to be Sloane. Without Sylas or Eris breathing down her neck.

Her attention was quickly drawn to the sky when a loud rumble shudder her being. It hadn't really sunken in yet, the fact that she was surrounded by so many people with a vast array of powers and abilities. But what once was a sunny day quickly faded to a dark, heavy overcast threatening at any moment to open up a deluge on their heads.

"Well, pains me to say this, but we've got work to do. May I enhance your perception a little? And I don't suppose you know your way around a weapon?" Ji-hyun stretched his hand out toward her as he spoke.

Sloane took his hand and slid down from the rock she sat upon, now standing beside her teammate. "Uh, sure... And no, I don't. That's Sylas' area of expertise." Still, she took the shield in her left hand, while her right held the dagger. Maybe she would be lucky. "My powers are more offensive... I don't think it would be wise to invoke violence or chaos on incoming opponents. It'd might turn against our favor quickly." The thought hadn't crossed her mind until that moment. The Spartans didn't leave behind a fighter to help them defend. Ji-hyun could knock them out maybe, but making someone chaotic or violent wouldn't help their already poor predicament. The odds were stacking against them quickly. And as if the skies knew this, the clouds opened up and rain poured down heavily from the heavens, masking any sounds of oncoming opponents.

The sky opened up, quickly drenching Wes and his beast. Although he wasn't a fan, his new friend seemed unfazed, continuing to sprint through the woods with haste. If Ajax was already there, then maybe it'd be a good enough distraction for Wes to get the flag... Or he could always be the distraction while Ajax got it. Or... it could just be rain. That's a thing too.

In no time he was there, just beyond the tree line of where the Spartans' flag would be. To his surprise there were only two people there left to defend it. Ji-hyun and Sloane. They both looked about as capable as himself when it came to combat, so if anything this was going to be a battle of wits. Wes had to fight the urge to laugh. Like he had wits. His gaze skimmed the surrounding area until he saw the red flag hanging high up in a tree. Gods did he wish he could fly. Rain plus tree climbing plus one arm... That didn't sound like a recipe for disaster or anything.

After preparing himself for what was to come, Wes decided to take the opportunity of surprise and use it to his advantage. First he took the spear from his back. Since he lost his right arm, he had been practicing with his left daily. He wasn't a marksman, but as long as he could get them to look one way, then he'd call it a success. He winded back his arm, then through the spear near the pair of defenders, but on the opposite side to get their attention to focus elsewhere than the flag.

Sloane just barely saw the spear flying through the air. She pushed Ji-hyun out of the way just before the weapon lodged itself in the ground at their feet. She quickly brushed back her water soaked hair from her face, as she scanned the surrounding tree line. Then out of on where, a large beast burst through the trees, leaping toward them. Sloane stumbled backwards, falling to the ground. The giant animal stood before the two of them, standing her ground, digging her claws deep into the mud.

As his beast distracted them, Wes ran around the perimeter getting as close to the tree as he could before coming out into view. Part of him was worried about the fate of his new friend. He could only hope he ascends the tree fast enough for Ji-hyun and Sloane to not be able to get a drop on the beast. He'd hate for her to die because of him. But Wes didn't have the time to worry about it. He sprinted out into the clearing, straight for the tree. As quickly as he could manage, he began to climb. The rain didn't help his struggle, but he ignored everything else and focused on the climb.

Sloane extended her hands before her trying to remain calm for the large animal. For a brief moment she caught sight of something. She looked over toward the tree and saw someone halfway up toward the flag. "Try to put it to sleep!" she called back to Ji-hyun as she was already running toward the tree. Luckily, once under the branches it cut back a lot of the rain so that she was able to look up to see where the opponent was. After a moment, she was able to make out Wes clumsily climbing, his feet slipping every few placements. With no time to waste, she quickly began climbing up behind him.

Wes found himself cursing nearly ever step he took. If his foot didn't slip, his grip did. But he was determined and kept climbing. He was nearly to the top when he felt something grab his ankle. He looked down seeing Sloane's small handing holding tight to his foot. He froze for a moment, not knowing what to do. He didn't want to risk kicking her and making the girl fall and get injured. But he didn't have another free hand to break her grasp. Instead he opted for the harder route, Wes hooked his left arm around an upper branch and with all his might he hoisted himself up.

It took all the strength in him to lift himself and the girl beneath him, but finally her grasp slipped do to the rain. Once Wes was free he took the advantage and climbed up the rest of the way as fast as he could. Sloane was just about to reach him again when he reached out and snagged the Spartans' flag. When he had the soggy piece of fabric in his grasp, he froze in slight shock then looked down at Sloane who stopped her pursuit to look up at him. "I have the flag?" he said in more of disbelief than celebration. Then he stood up on the branch and waved the flag. "I HAVE THE FLAG! TROJANS WIN!!"

After a well deserved minute of waving the flag, he looked down at the branches below him. "Shit. Now how am I getting down?"

“You mean to say the strong will sacrifice themselves for the weak? We all die one day, I guess the matter is how we want to be remembered or leave a mark on the world. And sometimes that happens to be nobly or heroically, or the opposite.” Evelyn gestured toward him obviously meaning him to be the representation of the opposite. She could think whatever she wanted, good or bad. He could tell from the moment he met her that she could see through to the truth in each person. Sylas didn't care. If people were smart enough to see to his true nature then by all means. If not, then whatever he did to them they deserved.

“Heroics and bravery could be due to the fact that most demigods have lost that sense of self preservation. We've all come from that world where we were the strong and had power among mortals so it was... obligation to protect those in need. If those instincts continue camp will be a harmonious place knowing one has the other's back...at the expense of some trauma."

Sylas' brows quirked at the notion. "Not all of us. But I suppose I can see your point." He wouldn't deny that he agreed with her conclusion as to why most of the people at camp acted the way they did. He noticed that almost instantly when he came to camp. There was such a lack of self preservation that it made for an interesting course of action when trying to weave his vines. A healthy challenge in his opinion. Everyone was so eager to put their lives on the line for others, that only a master puppeteer could pull the right strings to work in their favor.

“But you, Sylas, I do wonder how far you'll go.” He chuckled slightly as he continued walking in step with her. Step by step his limp was slowly wearing off. He had hardly noticed when the rain started. It never really bothered him anyway. But it'd definitely make for a bigger challenge in this particular exercise when you can't hear people approaching or get proper footing.

Sylas parted his lips to reply but as he did so an airhorn signaling the end of the game sounded throughout the playing arena. He then stopped and looked over at the red head. "I guess you'll just have to wait to find out." He changed his path to aim toward the main hall. As the distance between himself and Evelyn grew, he nodded his head back toward her. "You're a formidable teammate. I wouldn't mind working with you again sometime." He smirked and then continued onward.

Sylas could only imagine how much Evelyn would hate the idea of working with him again, but the thought of the knot growing in her stomach at his poor excuse of a compliment excited him. He loved ruffling feathers but better yet when it caused a wave of confusion between being flattered, confused or insulted. If only he had more time to cause more mischief during capture the flag. But the summer was young and his time at the camp had just begun.

"You're the one that told me to make friends, I can't help the quality of them. My options are pretty limited."

Andy gave a weak chuckle at his comment. "Maybe you just have bad taste in friends," she added quietly, meaning herself as much as Sylas. No doubt she's felt a growing weight on her shoulders and part of that lied heavily with her lack in being a good friend. From her side, she didn't seem to be making Mason's life any easier... Probably just more difficult. Maybe it would be better for him if she backed off and didn't constantly put herself in the middle of a feud that was never going to end. But she couldn't bring herself to do that.

"Your face will heal," Mason continued quietly. "And you'll be Mrs. Athens again in no time."

She stiffened slightly at his last comment. Andy didn't look up at him, but her voice was firm yet gentle. "Don't do that, Mason... I'm not Mrs. Athens. I'm Andy... Just Andy," her voice trailed off.

As she sat there with Mason, she gently hooked her arm in his, sighing softly. Andy was exhausted... From everything. In that brief silence she felt a heavy gaze on her. She was tempted not to look up, to ignore the feeling of someone's stare drilling through her, but eventually she looked up. She met Ajax's gaze for only a moment, but quickly looked back down at her hands.

She raised her hand to gently poke at her swollen nose as Mason cleared his throat to speak. "So, thank you, for doing what you did in the woods. I know it wasn't for me and maybe I shouldn't even be thanking you but...I'm glad you were there. Hardly anyone speaks against her and him so...good of you to speak your mind, I guess."

Andy focused on his words, almost completely missing his comment about the party the night before and the girl he claimed was hot. To each his own, she supposed. A woman like that looked like a walking heart break but it wasn't her place. She didn't make the best choices in companions at the current moment either. Maybe that was their lot in life.

"It was for you... And me," Andy spoke up in late response to his thanks. She was going to leave it at that, but she was too tired to hold back anything, especially from Mason. "I hate the way she looks at you. Like you're some kind of monster. She judges you and doesn't even know you." Andy kept her voice low so only he could hear, but there was a sharp bite to it. "She's the monster. I saw it... the rage in her eyes. No one cares that I was there, what I saw or what I did. They all forgive her like it never happened. While I had to sit there with this... Burden. That I wasn't fast enough to save Jennova. That I couldn't call you and tell you the moment it happened. I carried her body... I buried her."

She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "Those images haunt my dreams. Jennova, the Underworld... Daniel," her voice cracked quietly at the mention of her brother's name. "Everyone expects me to be strong all the time. To forgive and forget... But I can't." For so long Andy has bottled everything up. But since camp has started again she's been unraveling. She never was the type to say her feelings, instead being strong for everyone else, not herself. She felt like she was falling apart piece by piece and she couldn't hold it in anymore.

The silence was broken when Mason spoke up. "You can go talk to him if you want. I mean... I would like you to at least wait for him to apologize but I wont mind."

Andy smiled weakly at the end of his comment. "I don't want to talk to him..." At this point, she couldn't care less if Ajax apologized or not. It sounded so foreign coming out of his mouth, especially directed toward her. For two words that were so simple, it carried a lot of weight. They're supposed to be equals in a relationship, but she always felt two steps behind. That she was constantly having to forgive what he has done. Then the one time Andy does something he doesn't agree with, he scolds her like a child. She didn't feel like his equal and if anything that supported the thought.

When Andy mentioned Jennova, Mason went ridged. He pulled himself from her, leaving her sitting there stiff... Just staring at her hands as they rested in her lap. She hated how he was blew hot and cold, it gave her whiplash. With him pulled from her, she scooted herself apart from him slightly with a sigh. "...I lost a sibling too, Mason," she said, barely louder than a whisper.

Then there was silence. Not that she was surprised. Maybe that's why Andy so rarely opened up anymore. People just looked at her like she was mad. Mason and herself had both been through a lot and more than anything, she just needed someone she could... be herself around, where she didn't have to pretend like she was ok all the time. She hoped that Mason would understand compared to the others.

"How'd you survive without me?"

Andy turned her head slightly toward Mason. Her expression was peaceful, like a sad sort of acceptance. "I didn't." She had long accepted that she wasn't the same girl from last year. Everything had changed... including herself. She was a ghost of her former self and surprisingly no one noticed.

“Hi guys,” Trinity said from across the table. Andy didn't even notice her approach, but a genuine smile came to her lips when she saw her. It's been so busy at camp as of late that she hardly had time to spend with Trin. Andy was thankful for her arrival. She wouldn't admit it, but she was scared what way that conversation could have turned. Not that Mason was much of a Let's talk about your feelings type of guy. “Sorry for interrupting but um...”

"You're always welcome," Andy said while motioning for Trinity to take a seat.

Something seemed to be bothering Trinity and the longer she was quiet, the more Andy grew uneasy. “I think your brother's here.” The words rang through Andy's mind like an alarm as she sat there unmoving. Before she could fathom to put together words Trinity continued. “I- I don't know if it's a spell or ghost form...”

Andy finally inhaled a sharp breath like she was gasping for air after nearly drowning. Her hands started to tremble as they rested on the table while her gaze was blank. "I—I—I don't understand... Where is he!? Why didn't he come see me!?" She quickly went from a daze to full on panic. Her thoughts flooded from her lips the second they hit her mind. Was he alive? Could he be? Why didn't Hecate tell her? Why didn't he come see her?

Everything began to spin as Andy grew lightheaded from the overwhelming news. It was like everything she had been dealing with for the past year had finally boiled over. Her right hand reached out for Mason as her vision went blurry. Before she could find him her eyes rolled back in her head as she feinted, her body tipping backwards off the bench.

Sloane had tried to hold onto Wes the best she could but with the rain her grasp was slipping. She had underestimated his own strength until he lifted her along with him until her hold broke. She floundered as she fell a couple feet. But luckily her feet found a limb beneath her while her hands grasped at the slippery tree trunk. By the time she had her bearings and even contemplated going up after him again. He had the flag.

Honestly, she was just happy for this whole thing to be over. Sloane tried her best and thankfully her brother wasn't there to see her fail. Although they were on opposite teams, he wouldn't like seeing her disgrace the family name with her inability to stop Wes.

She caught her breath where she stood in the tree before looking back up to the victor. Sloane brushed wet locks of hair from her face as she extended a hand up toward Wes. "Here, let me help you."

It took sometime but eventually the two of them awkwardly made their way back down the tree. "Thanks, Wes said once his feet were firmly on the ground. At the bottom of the tree Ji-hyun waited, while Wes' hound was recalled back into the woods at the final horn of the game.

"Good game you guys. I didn't hurt you, did I?" Wes asked Sloane as he ran a hand back through his wet hair.

"I'm good," Sloane responded with the best smile she could manage and a thumbs up. She didn't care that she lost. She just wanted to go back to her cabin and get into dry clothes more than anything. Physical activities were definitely not her forte.

We smiled toward the both of them, while offering them his fist in a friendly bump. "I'll see you all back at the main hall."

With the flag in hand, Wes took off in a jog through the rain back toward the main hall. His mind was still buzzing with the fact that he... out of everyone, had captured the flag. Even with the proof he doubted anyone would believe him.

He finally reached the main hall after many tumbles in the muck and mud on his way there. Wes trudged his way in through the door and shook his head, trying to get some of the water off. His eyes glanced around at the faces that sat around waiting for the results, but his smile faded slightly when there was no sign of Alex. He sighed slightly, hoping that he could figure out where she was but instead weaved his way through the tables toward a far one which held Mason, Andy and Trinity.

As he approached the table, Wes held the flag getting ready to toss it on the table like a football and do his touchdown dance. But he froze behind Trinity when he saw Andy's face and heard her babbling questions. "You told her?" he asked Trinity. It wasn't in an accusatory manor. She needed to be told and honestly hearing it from Trinity was better than her stumbling upon it on her own. No matter what the circumstances were that Andy found out, his heart ached for her.

He went to reach out his hand toward her, hoping to ease her emotions so that she could think clearly. But his hand was barely raised when she fell backward off her seat. "Andy!?"

Ji-hyun could induce sleep, and he thought he could take it away just as easily. Pressing two fingertips to Sloane's shoulder - he expected she didn't appreciate physical contact much - he concentrated for a moment, finding that energy and drawing it out of her. Without it, she would find herself more alert and responsive to her surroundings, which would hopefully give them an advantage against any advancing Trojans.

Just in time, too, because the moment he drew away it began pouring, instantly reducing visibility. Ji-hyun stepped away from Sloane, palms practically crackling with energy. He couldn't see their opponent, but it didn't take a genius to figure out that they were close. Anticipation practically radiated through the trees at him, and he was ready to meet it.

What he wasn't expecting was the spear. In fact, he didn't really see it until it was almost on top of him, right before Sloane pushed him out of its trajectory. The weapon struck the ground, quivering slightly as if enraged at its failure.

The beast came next, charging out of the woods towards the two defenders. Scrambling backwards, Sloane lost her footing, falling backwards. Ji-hyun himself took a few steps back, hands held out in front of him. Suddenly going head to head with a beast this size, armed only with sleep magic, didn't seem like such a good idea after all. Ares would probably be laughing his ass off right about now.

"Try to put it to sleep!" Ji-hyun turned, sighting only Sloane heading back towards the tree. "What?!" he yelled back, unaware of Wes already halfway up the tree.

But Sloane had already gone. Turning back to the beast, which was now growling at him, he edged back a fraction. "Uh. Easy there." His voice seemed to set it off, though, and it growled again, louder this time, moving towards him. He ducked the first swipe of its paw, feinting ineffectively to the left before lunging forward, hands outstretched. It swiped once more at him, and this time one claw tore through the flesh of his left palm. Blood spattered the forest floor, seeping into the mud, but his other hand made contact with its face, and in the next instant it had dropped, barely conscious.

Holding his injured hand to his chest, Ji-hyun turned in Sloane's direction, just in time to see Wes's fingers close around the flag. "I have the flag? I HAVE THE FLAG! TROJANS WIN!!"

"You sure do," Ji-hyun groaned bitterly. He watched Sloane help Wes down from the tree, and trailed along behind the both of them back to the main hall. Once back at the hall, he turned to them, accepting Wes's fist bump with his uninjured hand, and offering Sloane one last you did well nod.

"Good win. I'll just be off to get some help with this, don't want to get sepsis." Leaving them with a wry chuckle, Ji-hyun left to seek first aid.

Andy expected the collision with the ground to either jar her awake, her just further concrete her feint state of mind. But arms were quickly out to catch her. Arms enveloped her frame and lifted her into the air. Her head felt as heavy as lead, resting against Mason’s shoulder as he carried her out of the hall. "Come on guys, she's gonna need the biggest support system she can get,” he said toward others, which she could only assume was Wes and Trinity.

She wanted to protest that she was fine. That she just needed air, to clear her mind and walk it off. But the words never fell to her lips. Out of everyone, Andy was glad Mason was the one that was there. Compared to anyone else at camp, he was the only one who could have some semblance of an idea what it felt like. Gods she didn’t want to go to the med hut. She refused to step foot in that place since the last time she was there, after Mason pulled her out of the Underworld. That place always rubbed her the wrong way. The scent of sterile medical supplies hovered in the air only masking the long standing smell of death and decay.

But the footsteps continued onward, farther than where the med hut was. The leaves rustled overhead while the air filled with the scents of fresh fallen rain and pine trees. Andy’s eyes slowed opened to see that Mason was taking her back to her cabin. She exhaled softly through her nose able to relax, even if only a fraction. She subconsciously grabbed a small handful of Mason’s almost as a way to reassure her that she was awake and it was real.

Softness hugged her as Mason laid her down on her bed. "Take it easy, Andy.” She nodded her head, looking up at him as laid on her side, curled in on herself. As he wondered off, the reality of it all hit her like a hammer to her chest. Andy sat up abruptly, clutching her chest as the panic overwhelmed her. Hecate said he was dead. She said it! Why would she lie!?

Who was Andy kidding, that’s what her mother did best… Lie. She pulled her legs in toward her chest, burying her face into her knees while her hands cradled her head. It seemed as though everyday at camp was getting harder and harder to bear. That piece by piece she was chipping away becoming a husk of what she used to be. A zombie going through the motions. Maybe she was just going crazy? Everyone thought she was crazy before she came to camp. Speaking to ghosts, magic… a dead brother now alive? It sounded crazy. She sighed, focusing on her breathing but remained unmoving.

Ji-hyun nodded his head at Sloane in a silent gesture of approval or something of the sort. "Good win. I'll just be off to get some help with this, don't want to get sepsis.” He gave a dry chuckle before he started to part ways and head for first aid.

Sloane stood there in silence for a good moment as her mind toiled over what to do. Then with a sigh, she jogged after him. ”Hey uh,” she motioned her hand at his wound. ”I can take care of that… if you want.” She attempted her best smile, which for Sloane, was a sad excuse for a grin but it was something. ”After all, it was kinda my fault.”

With that, Sloane nodded her head toward the direction of the cabins. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with everyone in the main hall. After all, this was their first large competition against one another. Who knows how the campers would act. Would they be civil like Wes was? Sore winners? Sorer losers? She didn’t know if they’d get the blame for losing but she wasn’t going to sit around there to find out either.

Luckily, Sloane kept a first aid kit with her on most occasions. Usually it was for Sylas, who more often than not, had a tendency to get into fights. And although he always won, he never escaped unscathed… And then it was her job to suture him up. Plus, as much as she was unwilling to admit it, she needed to make friends. And Ji-Hyun seemed like one of the least intimidating people at camp… Someone maybe her brother would leave alone.

Wes placed his hand on Trinity’s shoulder able to hear the strain in her voice even without seeing her face. It wasn’t an easy feat for anyone, especially a friend, to break news to someone. He understood that. But in the end, it’s better to hear it from a friend rather than discovering it on your won or worse.

"Come on guys, she's gonna need the biggest support system she can get,” Mason said toward the both of them as he carried Andy out of the hall. Trinity flashed Wes a tight smile when she noticed the flag, but he simply shrugged his shoulders and motion his head toward Mason. It wasn’t the time.

He followed the son of Hades as he carried Andy past the med hut and toward her cabin. Wes wanted to step forward… place his hand on her and just help ease her. But with a situation like this, he kept to himself. If she needed his help, she’d ask. But he couldn’t deny that she’s been… different for awhile now. Maybe no one else sensed it like he did? Maybe his abilities only mad him able to notice. But he did.

Wes remained with Trinity outside the cabin as Mason took Andy inside. He couldn’t even begin to try and empathize with Andy. He had no idea what she was going through. But his heart went out to her. His gaze shifted to the blonde beside him just before Mason rejoined them outside. "So you've really seen him then? Did he say much?”

Trinity shook her head. “Not to me.”

”He seemed… off,” Wes admitted looking between the two. ”I don’t know how to explain it. I just felt it,” he added motioning his hand toward his chest. No doubt an Aphrodite kid thing. ”He was quiet. When had Daniel ever been the type to not talk?” He could be wrong. Wes and Daniel weren’t best friends or anything before the battle. But it was just something he felt in his gut. Wes had a hard time wrapping his mind around it all, even when he saw it with his own eyes. Why wouldn’t Daniel go to see Andy first? It didn’t make sense.

"I got some things to iron out with Andy if you two don't mind.”

Wes put his hand on Trinity’s shoulder while nodding his head in acknowledgement toward Mason. ”If you need anything…” He didn’t need to say anything else. Wes followed Trinity a bit aways from Andy’s cabin, giving the two the space they needed, but staying close enough to deter others.

When his gaze fell to the blonde before him, her face was sad. No doubt, upset about the distress she caused a friend. She closed the distance between them and put her head against his chest, sulking against his rain soaked shirt. Wes brought his hand up to cup the back of her head and neck as he placed a kiss upon her golden main. “I should have waited for you. You could have broke it to her better and helped her.”

Wes exhaled through his nose while his thumb gently stroked the back of her head. ”There’s no easy way to break something like that to someone, especially a friend. You did the right thing. And I’m certain Andy is thankful you told her rather than anyone else or finding out herself.” He was silent for a long moment before continuing. ”Mason, out of anyone, will be able to help her.” He didn’t need to explain what he meant. She knew.

Trinity sighed and pulled back from him, first looking at the flag that hung out of his pocket then up at him. But her gaze didn’t last there long before scanning his body probably looking for injuries. “You don't look too beaten up so that's good. How'd you all fare?”

He chuckled halfheartedly and gave a shrug of his shoulders. ”I’d like to say I bested everyone on the other team… took them on single handedly.” He smirked but the facade quickly faded and his voice changed to a calm, humble level. ”It was nothing spectacular. Ji-hyun and Sloane were the only people at the flag. The hound did most of the work. And honestly… my biggest enemy was climbing a tree in the rain.” Wes laughed, running his hand back through his hair that still had traces of rain. Then with a sigh, he pulled the flag from his pocket and held it out to Trinity. ”Here.”

Ji-hyun was almost halfway to the first aid tent when footsteps sounded behind him. He paused and turned back, meeting Sloane's eyes. "Hey, uh. I can take care of that... if you want. After all, it was kinda my fault."

He considered the offer. "Not really. I mean, it wasn't your fault," he amended quickly. "That thing just came at me." He mimed slashing through the air with his injured hand - poor decision, as the movement caused blood to spatter the grass in front of him. Ji-hyun stared at the drops on the ground, looking almost disappointed. "But yeah, I'll take you up on that offer. Thanks."

The two of them headed towards the cabins together, Ji-hyun holding his hand to his stomach to stop it from bleeding all over. "You know," he started conversationally, "back in Korea this would never have happened. My grandmother would have freaked out if I came home with even a scratch on me. And my brother always stood up for me against the older guys." He paused. He'd never really felt a compulsion to talk about Ji-ha - sure he wouldn't deny the fact that he had a brother, but it was weird speaking as though it was something they always did. Oh, he always fought my fights, and then he'd go home and get beaten again. We weren't like everyone else, but we weren't even like each other. Just another day in the lives of the Jin brothers.

He waved his uninjured hand, trying to brush it off. He'd had his time to be melancholy about it. "But talking about him isn't going to bring him back, so nevermind me. What a game, huh? I can't believe they let us be the last line of defence for the flag. Wes climbed that tree so quickly I barely even saw it. Is it gonna be like this all the time, do you think they're going to try to make us warriors?" He forced a laugh. "I don't think that's ever going to happen."
