Introduction
METRO takes place in
Newerth, a post-apocalyptic land attempting to regrow. Human
settlements are few, far apart, and surrounded by dense forests where
creatures of the night hunt their prey. You are a human in one of the
seven regions and are just trying to make a living in a world that, at
times, feels so lonely. But there is so much to wonder. Why do the
forests seem to grow thicker and more busting with monsters each night?
Where are all the other human settlements? And why do you get the eerie
feeling that eyes are on you when you enter the Metro?
Don't get lost! Here, take this: http://i42.tinypic.com/fapw09.jpg
Cherrywood
The second most populated region in Newerth and one of the safer places
to live due the abundance of plains that break up the forests. There is
an entrance into the Metro from the town of Westfield.
Burnt Mill
The population is small, but the people of the Burnt Mill region tend
to be very close knit and stay out of the conflicts of other regions.
It borders the most other regions and has on enterance into the Metro
via the town of Woodcrest.
Tall Pines
The least populated region in Newerth as well as the most dangerous.
Tall fences barricade any from entering the towns and guards regularly
patrol the borders. The only entrance into the Metro is at the heavily
watched Pine’s Checkpoint.
Lynne Harbor
The most populated region in Newerth due to it’s placement around a
major river. The towns Locust Market, Broad Plains, and Park’s River
all have entrances to the Metro.
Western Timbers
The Timber Delta and Belle River which cross through this region
produce some of the best fishing spots in Newerth. There is, however,
growing tension due to the increased danger in the forests.
North Laurel
Little is known of this area and of the settlements it contains.
Hopewell Lakes
While it is known that a human settlement resides around the many lakes
in this region, the thick forests have made contact with them near
impossible.
There are, as of now, only human
characters in Newerth. Maybe as the plot progresses things will change,
but for now I ask you only create humans. As far as naming goes, this
story is set in a post-apocalyptic North America. Since such a place
does not currently exist there is no real rules as far as naming goes,
but common sense would tell that a name like “Teana Hooke” would be
more appropriate than “Q’ryl’op Patøøsh”.
The timeline in which the story takes place would either make your character a third, fourth, or even fifth generation after the apocalypse took place. Exact ages may vary, but a fifth generation would be sixteen at most and a third generation, at their very youngest, would be around fourty five. Please note that since most modern medicine was destroyed, the quality of living would take it's toll on your characters. A third generation, while still young by today's standards, would be weathered and suffering from ailments that most don't experience for many more years. A fifth generation would have a lot more responsibilities and a lot less opportunities: formal schools are a rarity and most kids will either just take up their parent's profession or seek an apprenticeship.
For a home region, choose any of the regions above, but due note that
some regions will be better than other depending on how you want to
play. If you want to live in Tall Pines, security checkpoints are going
to be a common part of your day as well as a constant fear of the
creatures in the forest. If you have specific questions about a region,
feel free to PM me.
Your occupation can be whatever your heart desires, but there are a few
jobs that just wouldn’t make sense in this setting. Because this story
takes place years after an apocalypse destroyed most of the world, a
lot of modern conveniences, such as electricity, are no longer
operational. Society is essentially restarting so think jobs that
fulfills basic needs. Baker, fisherman, merchant, soldier, or even
artist are all examples of occupations that work within the setting.
Remember to pick a profession relevant to your region as well. A
fisherman in a region with few bodies of water will do just as poorly
as a bard in a dangerous, underpopulated region.
For pictures, to be consistent, I ask that you use photos of human
beings and not drawings. Now, if you want to draw a picture of your
character, by all means, don’t let me stop you! But if you could make
your thumbnail a human photo for consistency’s sake it would be greatly
appreciated.
As for the rest, be creative! No one wants to read about the traveling
mercenary with nothing to loose and everything to gain or the secret
princess from the land far away. Your character can be a simple bean
farmer, but if they’re written well, you can make a compelling story.
Remember, every character has both a past and a future, both of which
will make them what they are in the present. If you have any questions
or need help, again, PM me! :)
