Introduction

The year is 2375. The war with the Dominion is over. The Klingon fleet is in tatters, the Cardassian's as well. The treaty with the Dominion has been signed. It seems that peace may be nigh.

But the Federation weren't the only ones to come out of the war with their fleet relatively intact. There are now two superpowers in the Alpha Quadrant, the Federation and the Romulan Empire, and the Romulans are trying to capitalise on the weakness of the other fleets. With the fleets pushing into Klingon and Cardassian territory, the pleas to the Federation are numerous, but even with their fleet relatively intact, they just don't have the ships to deal with every plea.

The drydocks are a flurry of activity, building new ships as quick as they can. The academy is graduating any that they deem suitable for it, rather than just those who have completed their training. Those being graduated early are given vocational training on board their starships, supervised from a distance by Academy lecturers. Promotions are rife, and not always well advised. Ships are running with less crew than they used to, leading to harder workshifts.

Among the new vessels being built is the Prometheus class. It was never tested properly, as the first prototype, the Voyager disappeared without warning, but the designers are adamant that it is the best option in the current circumstances, able to act as a single ship and crew, but if the tactical situation demands it, able to fulfill the role of three vessels. The new Multi-Vectored Assault Mode (MVAM) however, is not perfect, and has been known to have issues in its operation.

The first Prometheus class vessel to be completed is the U.S.S. Pandora, NCC-1903. Captained by James Carnis, an experienced Captain with several vessels in his repertoire.

STORY SO FAR:

The Federation is in trouble, the Romulans are pushing into their territory left right and centre, in response, Starfleet started constructing a second prototype Prometheus class vessel, the U.S.S. Pandora. The project was kept under the utmost secrecy, and the crew that were chosen for it knew nothing of their new assignment until they reached the Utopia Planetia spacedocks. The ship is due to launch in a fortnight, and the crew are rapidly being introduced to their new ship and the other crewmembers.

The Department Heads have been invited to an informal dinner in the Officer's Mess, set for the evening after Captain Carnis' arrival.

What will happen next? Where will the new vessel and her crew be sent? What dangers and adventures lie ahead for them? Find out soon!

"Activating long range sensors," the science officer next to Third declared, making her jump a little as she had completely forgotten he was there in the first place. "Good man," she said to cover up, and gave the vaccine-wound another glare. "I should probably get this checked so I don't faint on you," she winked at the man before getting to her feet and heading for the elevator. Surprisingly, she wasn't feeling to woozy as she leaned her back to the wall of the lift, informing it of where she wanted it to go. "Air mixing with chemicals," she repeated with slight grudge as she stepped out, headed for sickbay. Third poked her head inside, spotting the Vulcan that had stabbed her earlier. "So," she said as she entered, "How long until one should start to feel paralyzed, then?" she grinned jokingly, mostly because she knew it wouldn't be returned even if hell froze over.

"Aye captain." Ingus replied. Take her for a quick spin? That wouldn't be much fun... The pilot thought to himself. "Alright, then let's see what this baby can do!" He started inputting commands into the console. "Warming up the warp core..." The ship's core began to run from a low hum to a high whirring sound. The console confirmed everything was ready. "Preparing for take off. Hangar bay is in standby."

The whole ship began to shake a little, as the ship began to slowly began to move. The ship was exiting the hangar bay slowly out into the open. "Here we go...the ship is now moving out. Impulse only." Ingus was impressed the ship handled very easily to his commands, and was a much smoother ride than many other ships he's piloted. The ship was now hanging in orbit around Utopia Planetia. Admittedly, the planet was beautiful from afar. "Any place you wanna take her cap'n?" Ingus called out. "If I wanted to, I could probably fly this thing through an asteroid field. Seriously, I wanna see how this thing can handle!"

Dr. La'Piri looked at Third, curious as to why she seemed to playful, "You don't feel when you're paralyzed. Sit down on the nearest bed." She began to scan Third, searching every inch of her with the tiny machine. "Your immune system seems to be resisting the problems. You'll need to stay here until you pass out, then we'll attend to you." She left and headed to the comm screen, opening a link with the bridge, "Sir, we're looking for a solution as I speak. The counter agents will be easy to locate. Turning the link off, she went to Serith and sat down next to him. "Status report?"

Serith swished a solution in a test tube, staring at it intently, "Kil'Rigionate seems to slow the effects, but no confirmed counter agent found.

Piri nodded and got up, going to attend to a human who had passed out in one of the corridors that Jacob was bringing back.

"You don't feel when you're paralyzed. Sit down on the nearest bed."

Third sat on the bed as La'Piri scanned her, wondering slightly if she did wrong in getting herself checked. The last thing she wanted was to have her original species discovered by some Vulcan with a knack for needle-stabbing. Especially because her race had this tendency of putting duty before everything.

"Your immune system seems to be resisting the problems. You'll need to stay here until you pass out, then we'll attend to you."

"Grand, I'll just sit here and be, heh, patient". She seemed to be off the hook for now, even if she didn't quite enjoy the last part of that sentence. It almost seemed as if passing out was a dead sure thing, but she still didn't feel anything. Surely there would be some sort of warning? She thought of this as she attempted to lean her back against a non-existent wall, almost falling out of the bed in the process. Third grabbed a hold of the bed side, dragging herself back up into a seated position, mumbling "'m fine," to however might have been listening or watching. She shook her head slightly, hoping to regain focus.

Although Vera was resisting the effects of the contaminants, and to a greater degree than Kouji had been, she still succumbed to them eventually, passing out on the bed. The sickbay was rapidly filling up with the few crewmembers that she had managed to innoculate. On the bridge, Lt. Forbes began to feel the effects of the contaminants kick in.

Meanwhile, Serith was struggling to keep an emotion buried. Guilt. He had put a part of the problem in place, it had only been intended to improve the standing of Piri in the eyes of their Captain. He didn't even realise why he had done it in the first place. But the situation had grown rapidly out of control, he hadn't formulated a cure for his part of the hypo. He hadn't seen the need to, Piri would have had ample time to cure it, without the patients being in any danger. But he couldn't work as quickly as he knew he could, he still wanted Piri to be the hero, and he couldn't give away his part in it. It would be a disaster if he did . . . however . . . the first patient was close to death now . . .

La'Piri paced slightly as she shuffled through the medical equipment, looking for a syringe. She felt Y'Tu's hand on her shouler, his blank face looking down at her, "Syringe, Doctor?" He held out a syringe to her and nodded, slightly understanding the anxiety she could feel seeping from the patients.

"Y'Tu, I'll need you to go to Engineering and do a second sweep of the area to check and see if anyone else has begun exhibiting symptoms. She turned and filled the syringe with Kil'Rigionate and a mixture of Urin Sulfate and Carbon Mangait. Heading to each of the patients, she jabbed them gently in the neck, the affects of the counter agents hopefully slowing down the affects of the virus.

Serith stared at the screen, not wanting to plunge the next slide in. He knew that a mixture of Surigate and I'Lis would cure the patients, but he didn't want to find it just yet. His emotions, becoming unraveled within his mind, were pressing against him like a brick wall - pushing him forward. He needed to meditate, to put these flimsy emotions out of his brain. He sighed and went back to work, skipping the two essential chemicals.

A few minutes into the flight, Ingus begins to feel slightly groggy. His head felt light and his fingers tingled. Whoa... Ingus did his best to refocus himself. He made sure that he stayed awake. Especially since he was picking up some bad readings on his console.

"C-captain!" He said, fighting off unconsciousness. "I'm picking up readings on long range sensors. There's a fleet heading this w-way." He types in the console. "I'm pretty sure, it might be Romulan forces, sir." Ingus sways in his seat a bit, not sure what is going on with him. Whatever it was, he fights it as best he can, though his dizziness quickly begins to get worse.

This RP ain't gonna die on me, not if I can help it! I've just been a bit busy lately, so haven't gotten around to figuring out what's going to happen :p

My problem is that several characters were vaccinated, which I hadn't planned on :S And although I can easily present you with an antidote, that wouldn't be very sporting :D So no-ones going to die, I'm just figuring out how to get an antidote to you guys without it being too easy. (Suggestions welcome!) Si please bear with me a little while longer, in a short while, all hell will break loose in space (if you hadn't guessed already), so I'll try and give you an opening to sort out the vaccinations sooner rather than later.

@Thekherham: There are possibilities for non-standard species, though you'll need to give me a reason why they were accepted into Starfleet. At this point in the timeline, only the mainstream races were being accepted. And if you're making up your own race, then be sure to add a fair bit of detail in for my reference ;) If you've got any specific queries, fire me a PM and I'll answer as best I can :)

I'm not certain what you mean by joining as an OC, but if you're willing to learn, then I have no problem. Only junior officer positions are open now anyway, so that will make it easier on you :D

As for learning about the universe, google Memory Alpha. It's a wiki based on Star Trek. The important things to know about are the Romulans, our main adversary, the main technologies (warp drives, phaser weapons, Multi-Vectored Assault Mode) And things like the uniforms, that's probably about all that's really necessary :p Other than that, if you have a question, just shout up in the OOC and we'll try to answer it.

For submitting a character, you will need to pick a division to work in, they are the following (in no particular order):

Engineering: Responsible for running the ship, maintaining each and every system, no matter how small.
Security: Responsible for ship-side security, and also providing security for away teams.
Tactical: Responsible for the ships weapons and defences during ship combat, they tend to be trained in a similar fashion to security as well.
Science: Responsible for studying the universe, be that with the ships sensors or with their tricorders on a planet.
Medical: Responsible for keeping everyone on board alive.
Command: There are only a few command roles on a ship, they are the chiefs of each department, the XO and the Captain, they run the ship essentially.
Helm: Only a few of these, but they pilot the ship. It is rare that you get a dedicated helmsman, they often double in other departments, generally tactical. However we do have on dedicated helmsman ;)

So, take your pick and send in a character sheet ;)

Sorry for the delay since my first IC post. I just transferred schools and was trying to get situated and I was gone camping this last weekend. I'll just try to fit my character in as if he'd been here the whole time. I'd appreciate some help in trying to fit into the plot, so I'm just going keep checking back here before I go IC again so I don't screw anything up. If you feel the need to remove me because of my absence, then do what you must. In any case, thanks!
