(So before taking my nap, I decided, what the heck! may as well set up the OOC thingy-ma-page)
Pulled this from the Sky Pirates [INTEREST CHECK] thread
THE SETTING;
The setting is high fantasy with a healthy helping of steampunk. This means that our story is taking place in a world where knights still exist, women are often wearing full length gowns with many petticoats, magic is considered normal place and all at the same time there have been huge jumps in science and technology. This allows them to have lights, hot water, flying ships, and many other similar things.
This is a world in which ‘men are men’ and ‘women are women’. Where arranged marriages are commonly used to seal an alliance, women are expected to learn to embroidery and forbade to do any ‘hard’ work, while the men have to learn fighting and barred from ever so much as picking up a needle. Nobles will never clean and peasants will never read. Each person has role and know what it is, but that doesn’t mean the smart and clever can’t figure a way out. After all that’s what sky pirates are for.
THE STORY;
Tineati and Irysi are two countries that have always been on the edge of war, each possessing things the other desires. However, with this onslaught of sky pirates and Irysi’s suddenly affective counter-hunt, these two countries suddenly find each other speaking to the other. Irysi’s White king (who holds the most power in Irysi) comes to Tineati’s capital and is met with a grand ball to end all previous and possible future balls. If only it weren’t for those damned
as a whole:
Voretia is a unique world, to put it simply. It has a few large bodies of water that could be loosely termed ‘seas’, but pools of water don’t tend to get much bigger than a good sized lake. The reason for this is due to how part of the planet are broken off, literally. Creation myths give many explanations as to how and why large portions of the planet appear as though to have just separated itself from the planet to take off into the air. These chunks of floating land mass are termed islands, just as their water surround cousins. Some so small that they could only fit a single person, others large enough to easily fit a large city on it. When you peer off of these floating islands, if you don’t see the land below you, than it would appear as though the empty depths below you go on and on and on forever and on going.
Tineati:
--Government: Monarchy.
Tineati is, first and foremost, a monarchy. However, to both appease the aristocrats and remain in touch and aware of their kingdom, Tineati is also ruled through an aristocratic council made up of five ‘kings’ with the Metairre till Tineati’s at the head. The High King. What the council decides to do always have to be cleared by the High King, and most often is, but no matter the occasion, the High King’s word is always law. This brings us to the five ‘kings’, each represent one of the following Major Houses: K’yr, R’bel, L’hin, J’net, or H’koz. Minor Houses are not represented, but they do have their own council in which to discuss things before bringing them to a Major House.
--Land: Tineati has its fair share of floating islands, but an equally decent portion of landlocked land. Its terrain is a happy medium of almost everything. For this reason, they are very profitable in agriculture making it one of the richest countries on Voretia. It also has one border running along the Voretia sea, Rethotia, causing them to have a common resource that is rare in many other countries: sea fish, sea salt, seaweed, seaeverything else that’s in a sea. This abundance of good luck, however, runs out when it comes to the much need materials to build a Skyship, forcing them to either build Airships or deal with their neighboring countries.
--Capital: Perlius.
--Fashion: Ok, think Marie Antoinette, the one Kirsten Dunst acted in and you have the general idea. It’s all about layers, colors, and showing off exactly how rich you are through golden stitches and perfectly tailored cloth. The more money you have to spend the more detailed and complex your clothes become, but the more poor you are the less layers and more crude the cut. The most current and fabulous trend is the come-back of fan and all the most current ladies have learned or are learning ‘fan talk’, where they use their fans to secretly communicate to one another.
Irysi:
--Government: Krytocratic Monarchy.
There are three rulers of Irysi: the White King, the Black King, and the Grey King. Below them are a network of Judges, at least one per village but often times more depending on the size and importance of the city or floating island. For example, Orius has many, one for criminal, one for social, one for import, one for export, etc. Although in Orius all major changes or decisions will go to the Three Kings. However, before these things get to Judges they go through the Courts, and only go to a Judge if it’s Challenged enough times.
--Land: Despite being next to the fairly landlocked country Tineati, Irysi is a complete opposite. If you were to observe this country from space, it would look as if it had exploded outward. This leaves the country as a mass of floating islands, often giving them very little space to build on, which is why Irysi is famous for their tall, spiraling cities. Their agriculture is almost always in constant famine, and any island that is capable of growing food is strictly guarded by the army as jealous resource. Though they do have quite a few flight-based animals, and it’s not entirely unheard of some unknown monstereque things coming up from the black depths that lie below Irysi. What they do have a lot of is the materials required to build Skyships and many other industrious things, as they have an abundance of ore that floats… It is what the country is mostly comprised of, after all. Another unique thing about Irysi is that they live in an almost constant fog that seems to rise up from the very depths that the creatures do. What, exactly, lies below Irysi is unknown except to day-dreams and nightmares.
--Capital: Orius.
--Fashion: Irysi styles is always about quality over quantity, as very, very few Irysites have enough space to hold an enormous amount of clothes. Or anything else for that matter. Thusly they tend to have a very simple style on their dress, which allows them to wear any combination of their clothes and still have a seamless outfit. A current fashion trend, much to the elder generations dismay, is piercing your ears.
Character Sheet Application/Description thingy-ma-jiggies should appear in a form similar to this:
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Rank: [royalty/nobility/skypirate]
Appearance:
History:
If you have more to add, that's fine. But at least get the skeleton descriptions going for the character you wish to play. And once there's an idea of who wants to play what we can rework a plot direction.
