John hadn't much experience with the occult and parapsychology and so he would not have known that in certain supernatural situations all sound would be obliterated from the surrounding area. As a result of this little known fact John could not hear the voices of his two children calling to him from within the darkness, but then as the force which was haunting the basement had moved off to another part of the house sound began to slowly filter back into the atmosphere. The dark force had also manipulated the light levels within the basement as well, for moments after sonic reality had reappeared the ambient light had also made a return. Even though the darkness was only minutely illuminated by the absence of the spectral force the levels were sufficient enough for John to vaguely make out his children. "Lets get the hell out of here." John said as he grabbed his son and daughter and led them out of the abyss of terror and cobwebs.
