Of all the many rooms within the spacious home the kitchen was the one that the family had stepped within the least, perhaps it was the fact that the strange occurrences started in that very room. For whatever reason, when Maddie and Matt ran upstairs to the source of the latest disturbance John headed off for the epicenter of the activity. Stepping slowly and carefully into the large room John settled within the door frame and gazed into the well applianced and fully stocked kitchen. Suddenly there it was again, the smell and the cold. Allowing his senses to guide him into the haunted kitchen John slowly stepped toward the sink which to his great relief was revealed to be the source of the supposed phenomenon. "Oh my good lord, a stinking pipe and cabinet door not properly closed." John thought to himself as he placed his hands on the edge of the sink and bent down on his haunches. Looking under the sink he discovered a sizable hole on the bottom of the cabinet which lead directly into the cold basement below. John fell back onto his behind and began to laugh as he never had before. The enjoyment of his relief didn't last very long, but then it came to him, "What about the other strange occurrence involving the vaporous and consuming blackness?" Was this also merely a result of fear and displaced anxiety?
