It was now midday on the 68th day and the caravan of horse driven wagons were far from the former location where the town had set up for a day. The individual wagons had settled into their usual formation as they plowed threw the high grass of the plains. The bucolic surroundings disguising the dangers which lay hidden within the tall green blades, unbeknownst to them something was watching the traveling circus which was Hell on Wheels from underbrush. The untraveled plains in this part of the country were virgin, but now a group of wagons and horses were trampling the ground and disrupting the pristine Oregon plains. Jess who had been traveling toward the rear of the train sped up his horse in order to reach the head wagon driven by Marcus Jamerson.

Jess did not let it be known but he was aware of the retired gunslingers reputation, though Jess had never met him face to face, untill now. Jess had come to the front of the caravan to tell Marcus that they would soon reach the old ghost town of Hope Falls and how imperative it was that they not stop there. Jess had heard some strange tales regarding the town and even though he never put much faith in the supernatural his gut told him otherwise. Jess also knew that they would soon reach Fort Anler's, thinking that it would be far safer spot to rest Jess suggested they head straight for the fort. Fate it seems had other plans.
