Inanna's tail brushed the soft inner layer of her shell. Her eyes were firmly closed and she had curled herself into a tight ball, almost sleeping in the dark space. Her thoughts wandered and for however long she had been inside the egg, the thoughts hadn't been completely active. They were just there; as if they had no real purpose but to keep her mind awake. The little hatchling stirred doing so every few times to make sure that none of her muscles ached from not moving although sometimes the hatchling went days without a movement. The rough grumbling voice of the great dragon reverberated through her shell, ceasing her stirrings and causing her attention to rise to the occasion. After all, the words spoken were directed at somebody other than the other beings outside her shell, the other hatchlings. She knew there were others because sometimes there was the sound of scratching or claws tapping of the side of a thin wall, which was the same sound that she could make herself. Inanna listened; the soft voice of a woman with confidence spoke and then quieted as if she had moved further away. More voices came soon, the second being a male whose voice seemed out of place considering the strength in the great dragons, and the females. Inanna stretched in her egg, not very far given the space, and pressed her cheek against the shell. Had the time come for her to hatch?
