|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||
Her eyes opened slowly, taking in the sights of the room. It was big, with glass walls, familiar. The bed was more of a table really, with slots for resting. It glowed, spreading warmth into her limbs, making her feel light as a feather. It was strange, seeing with her own eyes again, hearing with her own ears. Well, not really her own, but close enough to it. "You're awake," the voice was familiar and when her eyes settled on the form of the gray haired girl, her name flickered in the top right of Callisto's eyes. "Jace," the name tasted right, it made her feel safe. This girl had been by Lita's side the entire time. She was a friend, or at least, Callisto thought so. "You were configuring all night," Jace walked closer to the table, there was a bundle of clothing folded up in her arms.
"Dr. Grover should be here soon to finish the adjustments," Jace said, placing the clothing on the table beside the bed. "I'm not Lita," Callisto breathed, wiggling her fingers. It felt so good to move, to sit up on her own. It was so fluid, she could sit up as though it were nothing. "I know," Jace replied, her response oddly gentle. The door hissed open as Dr. Grover entered, two assistants flanking her side. "Fully charged I see," she smiled. "Just a few more tweaks and you'll be good to go." A port popped open on the back of her neck, a wire connecting to her database. Words and numbers scrolled across her eyes, things began to feel lighter. "No," Callisto whispered, "No! What are you doing!" She lunged, but Jace grabbed her throat, pushing her back down into a laying position on the table.
"There, there, this will make it easier for you to perform your duties." Faces flashed before her eyes, familiar, then not. Lita, Fina, Lady Reiss, Minnie, they were all gone. Callisto blinked slowly and when she opened her eyes once more, she felt strange, as though she was coming into an unfamiliar world. The entirety of the last few years was gone from her mind, Io breaking her out, Metis recovering her body on the beach, the surgery in the hospital, all of it gone. The last thing Callisto remembered was the hospital, her fight with Io, believing she was going to die all alone.
Callisto gasped as she sat up, spluttering. The wire disconnected, coiling back up into the table. A light within her chest glowed, pulsating once, twice, before returning back to its normal, ivory color. "Good morning," the woman standing before her smiled, placing her holo board down. There were others in the room, a girl with gray hair watching dully. "Welcome to your new life, Callisto."
"Where am I?"
"You're in GENOS labs."
"What did you do to me?"
"I gave you purpose." The woman stepped closer, Callisto recoiled as she reached out, stroking her hair. "I freed you, gave you a body that you could live in once more." She touched Callisto's shoulders, "doesn't that sound nice?" A white robe was tied around her, covering her body. "You wanted to live, didn't you? You cried to die, but you were scared. This was what you really wanted, wasn't it?"
Callisto was silent.
