|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||
Maison Nik was not like other boys his age. Brilliant, he was praised, his testing numbers were off the chart. He was expected to rise quickly among the ranks of the Tower Society, if only his demon was more cooperative. She was a forced capture, not wishing to serve humanity, but here, despite her wishes; just like many other demons. "Polaire, you can't keep fighting me," Mason crossed his arms, having found Polaire asleep on a windowsill rather than their arranged meeting spot. "Why not?" She pouted, her rainbow hair glistening in the light. "Because we're supposed to be on our way to Norway, but instead we're here, you taking a cat nap instead of taking orders!"
"Why would I want to protect a bunch of invalids?" She asked lazily, opening up one eye. "Ultimate command, get down from there," with a hefty sigh and grit teeth, she slid down from the windowsill and collected her bag. The two had already missed their flight, Polaire made certain of that. Now they would have to take the next plane out, tomorrow. "What will we do in the meantime Master?" Polaire asked sarcastically, following behind him. "We'll train, because you're sloppy, lazy, and holding me back!" Mason snapped in reply. "You know, it won't do to have you fighting," the robotic demon, Alex Drake stopped them in the hallway. "Tell that to her," Mason crossed his arms impatiently. "Luckily, your flight was delayed, you two will make it, but you have to leave now."
"Come on Polaire, let's get to the airport." She grumbled behind him, shooting Alex a glare as the two of them stalked off to the airport. Inside of the rehab center, Polaire seemed oddly calm. She was standing at her station, Mason and Christopher talking in hushed voices. It was oddly quiet, most of the patients having been sedated because of the disturbance in their routine. "It looks like the demons are retreating for now," Doll reported, her heels clacking on the tiled floor. Elliot was in his office, Oliver standing guard. He was watching the security feed of course, making sure that the patients were all resting peacefully. Some of them could remain calm on their own, but struggled to keep their heads afloat. Others were completely defenseless.
Polaire was curious of course, as well as bored. The demons had retreated, there was no reason she couldn't explore. So while her human had his back turned, Polaire slipped down the hall, heading into the first room. This one was a girl, sound asleep and it was clear she had been napping for a very long time. Boring, Polaire thought, going into the next. "Oh, you're awake, good." Polaire smiled, this would be fun. Were these demons really crazy? "Holy shit," Polaire froze in her tracks. "Y-you-you're a Baron-Baroness," Echo blinked slowly. "Hmmm?" She giggled, the world feeling slow, her anxiety having slipped away with all of the medicine.
Polaire sneaked closer, poking the tiny demon's cheek. "Not so scary, are you? Actually, you're kinda cute, all helpless like that." Polaire tucked the blanket around Echo and placed the stuffed rabbit underneath her arm. "It's always the little ones that will kill you the fastest. Wouldn't want to get on your bad side."
"Polaire!" The demon froze, spinning around slowly. Doll, the bitch with the stick up her butt stood in the doorway. How had she sneaked up on Polaire in those six inch heels? How did her feet not ache in them no less? Polaire had no idea. "Step away from Echo."
"Echo! Oh what a cute name for such a tiny thing-"
In a half a second, Doll had grasped onto her raid gear, throwing her against the opposite wall with no effort. "Stay away from my sister," she hissed, Echo suddenly crying out. Doll turned to rush back inside of the room, Mason and Christopher standing on either side of her. "What is wrong with your as-" Mason glared, "I mean, what is up with your wife?" Polaire stood, dusting herself off.
Christopher was silent a moment, Mason helping Polaire to her feet. "Melody and Doll are protective of Echo, they raised her from an egg." A vibrant red egg, that hatched under Shiro's watchful eye. Their relationship had always been rocky, but Doll had vowed that she would not abandon Echo in her time of need again. "Now come on, let's go intake the wounded."
