Tekkonkinkreet: Gray (OOC + Interest Check)

This is a roleplay inspired by the manga and anime film of the same name. The majority of ideas used will be stemmed from the movie, as I have not been able to get my grubby hands on the source comic, but anyone who is interested is free to join! The soundtrack, story, and art direction make the anime worth your time.

Night and day. Yin and yang. There is a fine line between darkness and light, but the evidence is not always so clear....

Black and White. These are the two orphaned delinquents that have escaped the eccentric world of Treasure Town. Once calling themselves "The Cats," the boys gained respect as fearsome rulers of the metropolis. Ruffian or Yakuza were no match for the two, and they even withstood assaults against so-called "aliens." They are a little older, still displaying their signature quirks. Now, however, they have long since discovered the sympathies of police detectives Sawada and Fujimura, whom have given the children a new lease on life--a quaint village home by the coastline, a place where they can grow and learn without bouts of violence. It is a far cry from the multicultural, neo-Tokyo facade of Treasure Town, to say the least, her structure decaying from day to day.

White is the innocent, wondrous side of Black, contrasting against the feral nature of his older companion. He is too naive for his own good, and the streets would have proved to be too harsh without Black, but it is their togetherness that makes them brothers. Black needs White. White needs Black. There is nothing else to the equation.

Yet White is special. He is pure of mind, a visionary, seeing things that only such a bright-minded child can witness. Seemingly unfazed by past troubles, he has started to worry--about what? Black asks. The ocean stirs dangerous tides, the wind blows more sharply, and that familiar pain in his heart has taken shape once again.

We can't stay here, Black. We can't. We gotta go somewhere; we gotta go back.

The last time they "went back," unfortunately, had nearly gotten them killed. Black can't have that happen now that peace has been found.

But White is also persistent. There is something located in Treasure Town, something so righteous among the vile swamp of street gangs and Yakuza and otherworldly forces, that the boy runs away. What he seeks, he knows, can save the world, although he is unsure of how. Black, naturally, gives chase, and what ensues is a pursuit involves the most devious people--and creatures--on the face of the earth, as a threat looms over the skyscrapers and shack houses that could consume them all.

Although there may be definite character motives, the thick of the plot will be a character-driven simulation of daily life in Treasure Town. Start riots, revolutions. Wage war with other gangs. Try your hardest to avoid conflict. Anything goes.

RULES AND NOTES

1. First, the obvious: No godmodding.

2. Try to be as literate as possible when in character. Hell, apply the same vibe to your OOC posts. It'll make you look cool.

3. Treasure Town is a modern city with elements of Japan, China, and India.

4. You will be able to fulfill the role of a street kid (either belonging to a gang or as a loner), Yakuza (Japanese mob), law enforcer, or a regular bystander. Take note of the alien humanoids, similar to those in the film and manga, as well. There are also positions needed for White (Shiro), Sawada, and Fujimura; several non-mandatory canon characters such as the Dawn and Dusk Brothers or the Apache Gang are also available.

5. Delinquents are quite agile, known to soar across rooftops, and are usually competent fighters.

6. The original material was rather violent, but appropriate for its setting, so while you can take liberties in describing such a thing and there are meant to be clashes, don't go overboard. No auto-hitting, ya'll.

7. As for my role, I'll be playing Black (Kuro).

Name: Black/Kuro

Age: Presumably around 13.

Role: Delinquent: brother of White.

Appearance: Black is a boy with a fairly unassuming guise; a furious struggle landed a vertical scar upon his right eye, but the streets have done little distinguish him with other visible marks. A pair of thick goggles with red, glass lenses rests atop his head, which he may wear when traveling or frightening his enemies. Foes are quick to remember the intense eyes that accompany his round face. His brunet hair is cut short, with small bangs resting on his forehead. The clothing he dons varies by season--generally, he prefers chromatic shirts, shorts and sneakers, wearing knee pads on rare occasions. These usually include his encounter with the Yakuza, where he will always be sure to have his trusty weapon, a broken metal pipe, in hand.

Personality: Fulsome yet taciturn, Black will seldom display his gentle side toward anyone but White. His calm exterior is only a mask, one that disintegrates at the mention of a game or the smell of blood. He has a defiant nature, screeching with a catlike yell at his adversaries, savagely fighting even if the odds are against him. Despite how one could also describe him as possessive and brash, he is quite intelligent, showing a maturity beyond his years that extends to his tactical knowledge on the field. Although he is a natural-born fighter and once took pride in his lifestyle, his highest priority is White's safety, as it is the only thing that keeps him going.

History: His memories of a paternal embrace are merely blurred. All he can recall is stumbling upon White in the darkest corners of Treasure Town, accepting the younger boy due to his apparent hopelessness. With White willing to learn, Black showcased his cunning, becoming the youth's companion. They were brothers.

Treasure Town was his town. No other individuals could make that claim. If they were to do so, Black made sure that they wouldn't even think of uttering his words. As the Yakuza Suzuki, known as the Rat, returned to the city, seeking to mark his territory in the business scene once again, Black savagely rebelled. Still, the wounds only momentarily dissuaded the opposition from their intent. From the heart of the city erected an amusement park seemingly foreign to the aspects of the Yakuza, and Black suspected a different group at work--a group that wouldn't think, wouldn't breathe without command from their leader. And when they were ordered, they would hunt with one goal: Cat extermination. Black called them aliens.

The two narrowly avoided death, though White received the worse end of the assault. Initially racked with guilt, Black then decided that his brother was no longer needed; such naivety only proved to be a nuisance, and he couldn't have that shackling his every move. The boys dispersed, and while White was taken in by Sawada and Fujimura, Black followed his own path, a descent that would eventually make him crack. It was only after he realized the true importance of his companion and the aliens had been defeated that they could reunite once more.

Aw, no worries. That's just me overreacting again.

Name: Miyuki

Age: 13

Role: Bystander (occaisionally can be seen as a delinquent)

Appearance: Miyuki is quite tall and slender, she often wears a long green skirt, black strappy top and black trainers. Her hair is long and black, often worn in a high ponytail so that it's out of her way. She has slightly tanned skin and dark green eyes which many people swear can laugh by themselves. Despite not having much money, Miyuki still makes the effort to try and look pretty however she can. She is often described as looking very mature for her age.

Personality: Overall Miyuki is very friendly and good-natured, able to switch between acting child-like (when she is with White) and being extremely mature for her age (when she is dealing with customers). She has a sarcastic, and sometimes morbid, sense of humour but can easily take things seriously. She can also see very deeply into things, often able to tell what secrets are being hidden just by looking at a person. But Miyuki is generally still like a normal teenager, talking back to older people and getting nervous around guys she likes.

History: Miyuki was born in Treasure Town, her mother being a young stripper. Due to her mother's drinking habits Miyuki pretty much raised herself, keeping her home livable and trying to put food on the table. At a young age, she discovered that her father was none other than the Suzuki, the Yakuza more commonly known as 'Rat'. Disgusted by her father's job, his lifestyle and his regard towards her mother, she immediately disowned him, vowing she would have nothing more to do with him. Unfortunately he actually wanted to bond with her, feeling guilty for leaving her like this, but Miyuki wouldn't let him, especially when he bought her a gun for her sixth birthday (which she can use now after years of practice).

When her mother died, Miyuki had to find some way of paying the rent for her apartment. She refused to strip like her mother did, instead getting into the drug trade. Because of this, she's had many bad situations with the police, particularly with Fujimura. She met Black and White when she was about nine years old, immediately growing attached to both of them and managing to earn their respect. Because of her bad childhood, she was always more than eager to join in White's games, earning the title 'Agent Yuki'. Miyuki has always treated Black with great respect, not questioning that this was his town, and often sharing any information she could get from her customers with him. As the years went by she started to fall in love with him but never said anything, not wanting to spoil the friendship and knowing he could never return her feelings.

When she learned of her father's death and Black's decent into madness, Miyuki felt that everything was starting to fall apart. Then when she learned Black and White had left town without telling her, Miyuki was heartbroken, believing that they had abandoned her. She still continued to push drugs for a living, and occaisionally does little jobs for the Yakuza, but the only reason she stays in Treasure town is because she believes that one day Black will return for her, she hopes it more than anything.

Other: Miyuki likes pretty things, such as jewellery. She also carries her gun in the belt of her skirt, hidden by her top so that the cops don't spot it.
