On the western shores of the Wandwater Ocean lies the desert kingdom of Ashkara. Lead by its Sultan, Jahangir IV, Ashkara is by far the oldest formally established nation in the world. Its inhabitants are collectively known as the Ashkarazi, who, due to several millenia of interbreeding, possess traits from the various native races that occupies the land. These natives include the fiery, fire-wielding Djinn; the reclusive, snakelike Nāga; the mischievous, trouble-making Ifreets; and many more. Only very few truly pure-blooded indivuals remain, most of them humans who migrated from other Southern nations. Even the Ashkarazi royal family are of mixed race, though most of them have Djinni leanings.

Surrounded by the Kashmir desert, Ashkara's capital is the walled city of Soltera—the seat of the Ashkarazi royal family—with four large settlements along its Northern, Southern, and Eastern borders, namely: the Godolgur fortress in the north, the coastal city of Fereydoun west of the Wandwater, the port city of Akhzarun in the south, and the lakeshore city of Mehridi along the northern coast of Vida Lake.
Several smaller settlements lie scattered along the Kashmir—usually small villages, or caravans put up by wandering gypsies. Many ruins also dot the desert landscape, most notably the still-smouldering ruins of Beit Nāgazd, the great walled fortress south of Godolgur where majority of the Nāga used to reside. The fortress was laid to waste some five decades prior by Jahangir IV, following a Nāga-led revolt against the Sultanate. It led to the demise of the Nāgakhan (Serpent King), and the subsequent scattering of the Nāga.
