Tabitha smiled. when he said he would stay for a while she nodded. "i suppose i should fix up the couch a little better." she smiled. when he started to tell her to what he was looking for she nodded and smiled. "well when your ready." she shrugged. she didn't doubt that he would tell her. she reached up to play with the chain around her neck as she thought. "perhaps something simpler, what were you doing before your mission?" she asked softly.

(Thanks. ^.^)

Giancarlo couldn't help but smile, "No, don't. I like the couch the way it is," He told her, and put down the last piece of laundry next to him. He looked at her when she took the news about his mission, "I'll tell you, don't worry." He promised her, right now not even caring about what he risked be telling her. He didn't want to think about it. He looked back to the river absentmindedly as silence fell between them. He fiddled with the sleeves of his shirt, and rolled them up.

He looked back to Tabitha when she asked about his job at the kingdom, "I was a merchant actually," He admitted, smiling slightly. He was part of a family business, and came from a rather wealthy family. They traveled in and out of the kingdom quite often, and pretty much knew the area around it like the back of their hand. Or at least he thought they did, remembering how lost he had felt when he found Durham.

Tabitha smiled and nodded. "i trust you will tell me in time." she shrugged. she didn't doubt him. something in her felt it would be wrong to, even if she wanted to. Tabitha was new to this sudden trust and she didn't want to push it away for any reason. she didn't want Giancarlo to think she was overly pushy and therefor and annoyance.

"a merchant?" she asked when he answered. "what did you sell?" she gave a soft smile. she was truly interested. few people had come through her town and generally the ones that did left moments after arriving. it was interesting to hear the stories of the people who stayed.

Giancarlo smiled, not helping but to notice Tabitha's eagerness, "Sheepskin, Wool, and all different kinds of fabric." He replied slowly, and looked to Tabitha's reaction. Usually, when he was a kid, they didn't have a stable home like they did now at the kingdom. When his parents were both alive, they would always move from place to place with the trade. Now, after all that's going on, and the war taking place, Giancarlo had settled. At least, until the war was over.

He looked around the village homes behind him, "What about you? What do you do around here?" He asked her. He couldn't help but notice how young Tabitha was, and had trouble believing she withheld the home by herself. She had to have somebody helping her, right? He looked at the broken down houses.

she smiled. "you must have had a lot of business." she spoke softly thinking about the trade. "cloth is a good market." she added. she knew the market well enough to know that cloth sold well. when Giancarlo asked about her she shrugged. "well in this town we all pretty much do everything. all the men together to work with the animals for food, when we get good ones anyway, all the woman raise the children together, clean together." she listed. "in our homes we work alone though. every now and then we will ask for help, but for the most part every house sit's by itself."

she looked over her shoulder and spotted her own cracked roof. she would have to climb up and patch it soon, before the rain came back. Tabitha gave a soft sigh. she knew why her father chose such a small town, but sometimes she wished he hand't. sometimes she wished she knew what it was like to live in a town that functioned as it was supposed to, rather then as a dying little village.

"It's been getting better," Giancarlo replied shortly. It had been, with the demand growing from the war. The need for cloth has been growing accompanied with the demand for food. He listened to what Tabitha said about the village, "That sounds nice." He replied, “That’s a lot different from how things worked in the kingdom," He said, knowing that there everyone fended for themselves. He glanced at the broken huts and houses again, "It's a good you're able to keep things together. With the help from everyone in the town, I mean." He responded, knowing it would take the effort of everyone to help.

He noticed Tabitha looking to her own house, and looked to the direction that she seemed to be looking. It was the roof, he guessed, and glanced at the cracked frame above the house. He looked back at her when she sighed, "The least I could do to help repay you is to help you around the house." He told her, nodding to the roof.

Tabitha smiled and nodded. "it is nice, having that kind of community." she shrugged and glanced around the village behind them. soon the others would be filing up to use to the river for their own purposes. she glanced at her clothes on the line and sighed softly. "it will take a few hours for those to dry, so you can leave yours as well, no one will touch them." she said glancing at his clothes.

she looked back at Giancarlo and smiled softly. "that would be nice." fixing the roof would be much easier with his help. it wasn't a large task to be done, but it could be hard on one person. "it needs to be done before the rain comes back, but otherwise im in not rush." she added. she didn't want to make it seem like all she needed was work done. it would be nice to simply sit and talk as they were now.

Giancarlo glanced down to his newly washed clothes and to the clothes line where Tabitha had hung hers, "Thanks." He replied, reaching down to gather them. "I'll be right back, hold on." He started to stand up, and walked down shortly to hang them. He found a few old clothing pins behind one of the rocks, and pinned his clothes on the line. He came back to Tabitha a few minutes later, openly taking a seat next to her.

"I can help with it now if you'd like," He suggested, smiling kindly. He glanced to the river, and back to the home. It would only take a good fifteen minutes with two people at it. He sat back as he waited for Tabitha to reply. He glanced at his hands, to a small ring he wore on his finger, knowing he probably should start asking around for the ring. He looked back to Tabitha silently, wondering if she knew anything about the legend. It would be a perfect opportunity to start about the ring.

Tabitha smiled and nodded. "That would be good." She stood and dusted herself off, offering a hand to Giancarlo to help him up if he needed. "the sooner the roof is patched the sooner it will be out the way." she gave a bright smile. Tabitha turned her gaze towards her house then brushed the necklace once more. She took the ring from the necklace and slipped it in quickly before covering her hands with her gloves.

"Well all the supplies are behind the house, so everything we need is already there." she smiled. "it will be an easy job with help." She had to admit, his visit to her little town was turning out quite pleasant. even if they weren't falling or each other, his company was nice. if it was some form of love, well she would think of that as it became more obvious.

Giacarlo began to stand up slowly, taking Tabitha's hand to help him up, and followed behind her as they made their way out back. He looked just in time to see her slip on the familiar pair of gloves again, noting thatbhe hadn't notice she had taken them off. He'd never actually fixed a roof before, though he refused to admit it, but figured it wouldn't be too hard. Moving from town to town his whole life, he'd never managed the skill to actually be useful. Looks like he'd need it to help out Tabitha, "Okay, that sounds good." He replied as they neared her home.

The sun was beaming hot outside, already being around noon, and Giancarlo glanced ahead of him as he spotted the ladder leaning against the roof. An old hammer and a couple nails were tucked inside a tool box, and he glanced up to the broken roof again. It didn't look too bad.

Tabitha smiled and took the ladder moving it to the right spot. she grabbed the tool box and slipped the handle over her arm before going up the ladder and pulling her self on the roof. she peered over the edge at Giancarlo waiting for him to join her. she set the tool box down and looked at the busted roof. it would be easy enough by herself, but it would be far faster with help. she ran a hand through her hair and shook her head. "okay." she said more to herself then anyone.

she picked up the hammer and looked around, picking a good spot to put a nail in while she waited. she lined up the hammer with the nail and brought it down as hard as she could.

Giancarlo stood the second ladder next to Tabitha, leaning it against the house as he went back to the tool box to hunt for a hammer and nails. He glanced past the empty toolbox, finding a couple more nails tucked under it and headed back to Tabitha. "I'm coming up!" He called up, squinting past the blazing sun. He stalked up, leaning his elbows on the shabby roof. From the top of the roof, you were able to see full view of the town. It wasn't too big, quite small actually, but enough to fit the deserted population. He glanced to Tabitha, "Here you go," He looked over to her, and handed her a couple of nails.

He glanced to the roof in front of him, finding loose slabs of metal exposing the inside of the house. He watched Tabitha for a while, imitating her as he brought a nail down on the slab of metal with a hammer.

Tabitha smiled and took the nails she was handed, hammering them into the roof one by one. She was oddly strong for a girl her size. She knew she looked weak and fragile but Tabitha had always been a bit stronger then most thought she would be. She brought the hammer down and nearly hit her thumb. When she missed she let out a nervous laugh. "woops..." she chuckled.

It took them less then an hour, and when the roof was done Tabitha sat back and smiled. "come on down, I'll make some tea." she gave a soft smile to Giancarlo before climbing down the ladder. She went inside and put the kettle on, starting the water.

Giancarlo couldn't help but glance at Tabitha when she almost hammered her hand, "Are you okay?" He asked her worriedly, quickly looking to her. He felt a wave of worry come over him, realizing seconds later how concerned he sounded. He watched her slowly as she started hammering again, going back to his side of the roof without saying anything. Beads of sweat slipped down his face from working under the sun when they finished, and he followed down the ladder with Tabitha, "Sorry about earlier.." He muttered, feeling slightly embarrassed. He look to her hand again, wiping his forehead from sweat. He enjoyed being under the shade of the roof.

He followed Tabitha back inside the house when she suggested some tea, "Why don't I make something?" He suggested, glancing outside the window of the kitchen. "Plus, it's too hot for tea." He grinned faintly, glancing to the stove briefly. "It's the least I could do."

Tabitha glanced up when Giancarlo asked if she was okay. She was perfectly fine but smiled anyway. "Oh im alright." She shrugged. Once off the roof She only laughed softly when he apologized. "You don't need to apologize. it's perfectly fine to worry about people." She gave a soft laugh again. "I can guarantee i would have done the same if you almost hammered you hand."

She paused when he offered to make something. He was right that it was too hot for tea. She sighed and nodded. "Alright." She stepped away from the stove. "What do you want to make?" She asked running a hand through her hair. She wiped a few drops of sweat from her forehead and smiled.

Giancarlo felt himself blush lightly as Tabitha chuckled softly, still feeling somewhat embarassed. He nodded, however, as they made their way inside the house. The home was quite warm from the sun's rays, and Giancarlo looked over to Tabitha, "Well, what do you want me to make?" He asked her somewhat playfully, grinning slightly. He was willing to whip up anything really. He glanced back to the cupboards, opening one of them in search of supplies. He wondered if maybe there was a market they could go too. He'd pay for the supplies, of course.

Waiting for a reply, he looked around the kitchen. There was a small window above the sink, but, other than that, it was the only one. "We can go to the market and buy some supplies?" He suggested kindly, "It's on me, don't worry." He added.

Tabitha tapped her lip while thinking. "Well perhaps some lemonade?" She asked. It was a rather cool drink and did it's job of cooling people off. "That would be a good drink for the weather." She shrugged. She didn't really mind what was made, Although now that she said it, lemonade sounded wonderful.

Tabitha nodded when he mentioned the market. "It's small but it should have some things." She smiled. She was grateful to hear he would pay. She would have if needed, But his offer was welcomes. She didn't have much and was trying to save for the winter months. She turned for the door and glanced back at Giancarlo. "it's just this way."

"Lemonade it is then," Giancarlo smiled briefly, closing the kitchen cabinet. He followed behind Tabitha as they headed out the kitchen and outside the house. He stopped by the living room, gathering his bag and tossed it over his shoulder. A juggle of coins came out of it as he ducked under the doorway outside. He squinted under the sun, probably already nearing midday, and glanced at a few villagers gathering up some clothing on the clothesline. They passed by the small stream, and headed into the heart of the town.

The floor was practically all covered with rubble, destroyed, decaying buildings as they headed to the market. He glanced ahead of them, spotting where he had came from yesterday, and the familiar sign. Nothing had changed. "Do you have anything else to do today?" He asked Tabitha, glancing down. He knew he'd probably should start getting to work on the ring. He stayed quiet, knowing he had promised to tell Tabitha, "You know about that mission I keep talking about? For the kingdom? "

Tabitha lead Giancarlo into the town. It was a rundown little place, but for a good handful of people it was home. Tabitha smiled to herself, spotting the old fruit vendor. She walked to the little cart and started checking the lemons, hoping to find some good ones. She picked out a good few and bagged them.

"Lemons today miss tabby?" The vendor smiled noting the amount she took and telling the price, a Silver piece. Tabitha smiled and nodded. "yes." She looked at Giancarlo. "Lemonade today." She added speaking with the man. He laughed. "And here i took you for a tea drinker year round."

Tabitha allowed Giancarlo to pay before stepping away fromthe vendor. She listened as he brought up the mission he had. "yes, what about it?" she asked softly. She was eager to know what he was looking for.

The market was a small thing, not much, and probably worth nothing back at the kingdom. Here, however, it was the best thing they'd have. Giacarlo followed Tabitha to the fruit vender, looking to the small old man who was selling them. He helped Tabitha pick out a few peices, putting them inside the bag she was holding. Giancarlo found a silver peice in the jumble on his coins, handing it over and looked between the two as they talked.

"Do we need sugar? Or do you have at home?" He asked, looking over to her as they headed away from the vender. A few people from the village looked at him, but he didn't pay no mind. He looked down, nodding when Tabitha remembered about the mission, "It's about the legend of the old ring." He replied honestly, getting quiet, "Have you heard of it?" He asked, knowing it'd be a perfect place to start.
