The times of peace for the land of Elteria were infrequent, and often short lived. There always seemed to be some sort of unrest between the countries of the land, be it over land, riches, or simply a madman on the throne, war was always a not-so-distant possibility. A recent war, the Mad King's War, had come to an end not long ago; two brothers, pitted against one another in total war, their armies following close behind. Though both soldiers held similar views about the Mad King, each felt differently about how to overcome the lunatic in power. One, Aran, chose rebellion, while Gustav pushed for diplomacy, and for the man's family to remove him from power. The tyrant immediately retaliated to this rising opposition, sparking a massive civil war.
As the brothers fought, many friends were made and lost, all thanks to the senseless battles and killing that would take place nearly every day, one side never gaining a strong advantage over the other. That is, until brother Gustav betrayed the king, taking his elite force with him, to the rebel encampment. The royal army, heavily outnumbered now, began to lose battle after battle, being pushed further and further back until they had lost all ground, but the castle in which the Mad King resided. With a final push, Gustav and met the king in his throne room, soldiers falling all around them, the castle being shaken and broken by artillery fire. They battled long and hard, until Gustav, the Black Knight, finally prevailed over King Ludwig, whose undoing was caused by a simple slip of step.
The war had been conquered by the rebellion, the royal forces surrendering quickly after the death of their king. One man, Lucian Blackley, had at one time ruled the royal army alongside Gustav, and another man by the name of Jakob Rankor. Though General Rankor perished in battle during the final assault, Lucian was spared, to much the chagrin of the rebels. Gustav still held this man as a friend, no matter how viciously they had fought, as they would always let one another limp away in defeat- a sore mistake on the end of the Empire, and that of the King's life. Gustav went to this man during the reconstruction of the fine state of Ettero, and asked of him one thing. Lucian was presented with the crown, as Gustav knew he would be a fit leader for the kingdom. Though Lucian knew how to use power efficiently, the Knight knew that his time as General had prepared him for the task, never a hint of corruption seen within him, and his rule.
It has been 4 years since the end of the war, and Ettero has rebuilt, half of the country being delegated to the rebellion as their own country. The land of Crimea, which was to be ruled democratically. General Aran found himself elected First General, the highest military position in the state. As First General, he was given a spot on the Council, the ruling table who was to decide the fate of the land, each member having been elected to their current position by the citizens themselves. Aran helped to rule Crimea well over the last four years, and hopes are that he will continue to do so. Lucian, the crowned King of Ettero, had done a fair job of ruling so far as well, treating his people with kindness, yet ruling with a firm grasp as any good king should. His people were led to happiness, and prosperity, as the land was repaired, the scarred earth returning to its previous state. Knight Gustav, however, was torn between the two countries. Which to aid? His homeland, or the country his hands helped to forge. His decision difficult, Gustav settled on the border of the two lands, erecting a massive fortress where his army would train, and grow, to keep the peace between the two countries. Fort Sanguine quickly became a stronghold for the knights, and any aspiring warrior who wished to be the best of the best.
But now, the peace has broken. Reports of attacks on outlying villages have begun to flood into both countries, and quickly. Even small settlements outside the two countries have been under recent attacks, all of which the villagefolk disappearing completely. No bodies. No blood. Only burnt homes, and destroyed farms, as well as an eerie purple mist that quietly enveloped the land after the attacks. The land would be dried, and cracked... As if the earth itself were dying, slowly, painfully. The darkness slowly encroaches on mankind, and the countries of the world are beginning to take up arms against this mysterious foe. Your country calls to you! Will you accept it?
