Doppelgänger's Story

After Warden Ghost took a look at every inmate profile he emerged from his office. All of the guards seemed scared as he walked the halls of the asylum. He looked at none of the guards, he wasn't their for them. He was there for the patients. Ghost adjusted his cuffs on his sleeves as he walked down the halls, his footsteps echoed throughout the asylum. As he made his way ignoring the patients in the general area he headed towards solitary first. He looked in every padded cell until he found who he was looking for. One patient he looked at for a bit longer, the one by the name of Cannibal.

Ghost walked right through the cell door to see a woman. "Doppleganger..." he whispered, his voice seemed to echo and was ominous, just like a ghost. "...you will now reside in the general area." This was the first time Ghost had spoken to anyone at the asylum. He had made this decision seeing that her insanity level was only 2 in her profile. He exited the padded cell and opened the door, where fifteen armored guards awaited her.

Ghost then moved to Maximum Security where he stopped at the giant titanium enforced cell that held Alexei. He looked at him as he looked at everyone else, he didn't stand out to him in his profile, so he was hoping to see something intriguing.

Ghost finally made it to Juggernaut's cell where he was tied down with fifteen, eight inch thick, chains made of titanium as well. Ghost took off his shades when he stepped close enough to the small whole that peered into the cell. His eyes were pure grey and he seemed to be into Juggernaut's soul. He put his shades back on and made his way back to his office, not saying a word or looking at anyone.

The Arkham Asylum guards soon began going to every cell handing out breakfast which was actually better than the regular things they ate. Warden Ghost had specially ordered a new food regimen for the inmates. He took a look around at the food yesterday and realized that half the stuff they called food wasn't even suitable for vermin to eat. He had ordered that it be changed the same day. The breakfast they served today were waffles or eggs and bacon, they served according to each of the patients needs and dietary habits. The food was hot for once and the aroma was alluring. Ghost personally delivered Juggernaut's food as he phased through his cell. He pointed to the outside of Juggernaut's cell and waved no with his finger, as a signal telling him not to escape. He placed the large man's food on the floor, exited the cell, and shortly after Juggernaut's chains were loosened, so that he could eat. As the guards served breakfast to the inmates they skipped Alexei.

Footsteps could be heard walking in the distance, they were not Ghost, they had a different sound to them. A small old man opened Alexei's cell, he was wearing typical doctor clothing. Although he was old he was new to the asylum. His name was Dr. Hans Klarheit. "Good morning, your breakfast is in my office. Would you be so kind as to follow me?" Dr. Hans motioned for Alexei by waving is his arm. Soon after Hans, Ghost appeared seemingly out of nowhere beside the doctor. Ghost's hands were behind his back and he stood beside the old doctor waiting for Alexei to follow his lead. There were no other guards around them except the ones currently serving breakfast.

Doppelgänger smirked evilly when she was spoken to. "Alright. It's their funeral, though.." She laughed to herself, before being transported to the general area.

When she arrived, some of the prisoners looked up and stared at her. She was put into a cell with another woman, and was given breakfast. It certainly looked better than that slop they were given every other day. She was wondering if this Ghost person was actually that bad. She slowly ate it, wondering if they put any drugs or anything in it. Her cellmate was about to speak to her, when she turned and slapped her slightly. She responded violently and attempted to break her neck.

Doppelganger sidestepped, and kicked her in the back of the head grumpily. She attracted a few strange looks from other prisoners, to which she responded with a smirk. "What would you do?"

The guards passed by and looked a the woman who lay on the ground unconscious. They both looked up at Doppleganger wanting to take her down, but they had orders not to. Ghost had expected that she would be violent towards the other prisoners, probably try to get herself back in solitary. Ghost had a plan for this of course, sort of like a three strikes rule. If she committed three acts of violence than he would stick her in a cell with Juggernaut, a man who he knew she couldn't possibly harm. He figured the company would be good for Juggernaut's mental health as well, so either way Ghost was winning the battle. They opened the cell and dragged the unconscious woman outside of the cell and closed the door shut. "Don't push your luck Doppleganger" one of guards warned her as they proceeded down the hallway to take the woman to the infirmary.

Doppelgänger pursed her lips "Oopsie. I didn't mean to knock her out." She laughed, sitting down. How she loved being alone. She sat down on her bed, and stared at one of the prisoners in the cell opposite to her. She watched him slowly go insane, staring into her Amber eyes. He pulled on the bars, screamed in pain, and with every move he made, her stare intensified. She eventually gave up when he started crying, and lied down fully. She started to wonder what the other cellmates were like. The ones in Solitary and Maximum Security. They must find it nice. A cosy room.. Alone.. Although, company that you can't kill - Or they can't kill you is also good.

Dr. Hans looked up towards Alexei after he finished eating his meal. He calmly folded the page of his book to mark his place and put it away in his desk. "Well that's unfortunate. I guess I'll be taking you back to your cell now." Dr. Hans said with a face that was like stone. "I know I said I would ask you questions, but honestly you're quite the boring patient. Mr. Ghost would you please help me escort this young man back to his cell" Dr. Hans with his hands folded on his desk. Shortly after Ghost was standing by the Alexei and motioned for him to get up. Although Dr. Hans seemed strange he had a method to all of this and Ghost knew this. Ghost turned to Hans and handed him a piece of paper. Hans read the paper and pulled an intercom device from under the desk. Hans cleared his throat before he spoke.

"Attention all Arkham Asylum patients and guards. As by order of Warden Ghost all patients will be released into the new recreation area, outside of the main building. This includes patients in the maximum holding facilities and solitary. As per patients, those who use this privilege abusively, they will, and I quote 'never see the light of day again'. As to those who question this, it is an experiment to see how patients react to being around others and will effect your stay in the asylum, this should not be treated as play time and everyone should be on their best behavior." Hans said through the intercom and he shot a look towards Ghost because even he was confused.

Shortly after the announcement all of the gates were opened one by one to make sure each patient made it safety outside before another gate was opened. Ghost knew a riot wouldn't arise because of the mass amount of people who escaped the night before. There were only about a few prisoners left, roughly about one hundred. The guards were nowhere to be seen as they were positioned on the walls of Arkham with snipers loaded with several variations of tranquilizer.

Doppelgänger stood up, and walked outside. Atleast seven guards were stationed around her room. One was about to push her back into her cell, considering she was NOT to be let out at all costs. She grabbed his hand, and ripped his arm off. The rest of them leaped at her to attack, and she knocked two of their heads together. The rest ran at her to pin her down, and she made them.. Rupture. With black magic. She smirked, and ran off to the other cells - To see who she could help.

She ran towards the nearest noise of speech, coming from.. Alexei? That couldn't have been right.

Doppelgänger walked up to the area, and smirked when she saw Cannibal in the background. "Alexei, please tell me he isn't bothering you." She groaned, Having been in nearby cells with Leonard, she had gotten used to him. After a while, it just became tedious - And she'd gladly beat him to a pulp.

(( Note: Doppelgänger is familiar with most of the other inmates, due to her having been shifted around from area to area. ))

The Cannibal
His invitation was declined something he didn’t like why wouldn’t he be a peoples person? Maybe he just didn’t like to eat? No, every body likes to eat there just egoistic trying to hide there wishes to make sure every body else hides there wishes! And suddenly Crawford appeared, Cannibal never liked her kind not that he ever liked any one but she was just annoying with the glowing eyes. A quick question appeared in his mind, would the glow affect the taste? Eyeballs weren’t very tasty and hard to really digest but a glow could mean it was different maybe it would taste better. “A fine day to you Miss Crawford, Mister Alexei was just planning to leave he’s not one for conversation and I respect that. Would you care to join me for dinner? I see you have already prepared a meal.” His eye’s focused on a small blood spatter forcing a slight smile, Miss Crawford as he called her was a fighter one of the few that could kill Cannibal but he just felt the eternal hunger.

Warden Ghost turned his head to the pen that was now on the floor. "Interesting" The warden began to say before walking away from the front of the desk and returning to the window. On his way back he placed his shades back on his face. The warden now continued to watch the situation outside seeing that the violence had now died down a bit. Doppleganger had now joined the group.

"Your freedom was guaranteed just now, but yet out of fear of this place, you chose to stay here." Ghost said as he placed his hands behind his back. "I take it that you've been in maximum security before, the memories probably still haunt you, and prevent you from acting on your natural impulses. Or perhaps it's your history with wardens that stopped you. Maybe you have a bad past with one of them, it would explain your aggressive tendencies towards them." Ghost said as he turned back to Shadow. "Regardless of what is true, this place has scarred you, instead of helping you." Warden Ghost now sat down in his chair. "This is all I need for today, you may now head back outside if you'd like." Ghost said as he began to write down things in Shadow's folder with an extra pen he pulled out from the drawer that in fact did have the keys Ghost was talking about.

"Oh and one more thing Shadow. I'll be conducting all of your psychiatric evaluations, if another doctor tries to interview you simply wave your finger no. They'll understand what that means" Ghost said looking up to Shadow once more.

As Dr. Hans walked to his office he saw a mess of guards laid out on the floor, one with his arm missing. This was all in front of Doppleganger's cell. "You tried to prevent her from having rec time after the warden said it was okay didn't you?" Hans said in an agitated tone. He hurried off to his office and grabbed the intercom. "Attention all guards, the patient known as Doppleganger has attacked guards. Tranquilize her and gently place her back in her cell. Do not act hostile to her, it was the guards fault in the first place for not obeying the warden." Hans blared over the intercom.

One of the guards took aim at Doppleganger from the roof top with his sniper. He shot one of the lesser tranquilizer darts that were designed for patients her size. The other guards fixed their sights on her in case the first shot missed.

The Cannibal
Miss Crawford obviously planned to attack Cannibal and he would gladly accept the invitation but Alexei’s warning had been the truth something Doppelganger didn’t know as a tranquilizer dart made a clean shot on her and after taking revenge she dropped on the floor. Guards where closing in to take Doppelganger back to her cell probably they where going to follow the treat of the Warden she would if he followed his own word ‘never see the sun again’. Cannibal hadn’t done anything wrong but the sight of a limp body activated something carnal. The sight of a person activated the hunger but the sight of a limp body was a strong trigger that could overcome years of self control and a forced calm exterior.

A group of guards closed in on Doppelganger preparing to take her back but one of the guards recognised Cannibal and decided to turn around to keep an eye on him pointing on edge because there where no restraints between him and the madman “Keep your distance freak.” Cannibal wasn’t stupid he could probably kill them but a bullet was fast so he would surely die or never get another change to eat if he tried to intervene. Cannibal groaned from the stress slowly backing away suppressing a violent insanity with a just as violent self control.

Warden Ghost made his way to the entrance of asylum where Doppleganger was just now being carried in. The guards were on their way to bringing Doppleganger to solitary when the warden phased through the crowd and Doppleganger and stood in their way. He held his hand out as a sign they should stop. The guards ceased movement and awaited the wardne's instructions.

Warden Ghost pointed to a cell in the general area that had only one bed and was separated from the entire block of cells. "But warden.." one of the guards began to argue. Warden Ghost pulled down his shades to give the guard an icy stare with his pale eyes. The guards carried Doppleganger to her cell and placed her on her bed.

The warden the walked outside to the area where all the patients were enjoying rec time. He stood by the door of the asylum looking at everyone. "Lunch.." the warden said in a soft tone, but mysteriously his voice seemed like a whisper in every inmates ear. He stood by the door waving everyone to come in. The warden put his hands behind his back as he took a glance at every patient that walked back into the asylum.

Dr. Hans who was not as brave as Ghost stayed in his office and got on the intercom. "Warden Ghost is pleased with your behavior in the yard, as a result all inmates have the option of eating their food in cafeteria or their cells." After Hans made the announcement he headed towards Dr. Milo's office. Hans had searched for Juggernaut and realized that he was scheduled for an psychiatric evaluation with Dr. Calhoun. Hans politely knocked on the door to where the evaluation was being held.

Warden Ghost closed the door behind Shadow and straightened the cuffs of his suit as he walked towards his desk. "I believe you Shadow, but no use in me punishing a man who was just knocked unconscious and nearly got both of his eyes gouged out." The warden said as he leaned against the desk and faced Shadow with his arms crossed.

Warden Ghost got on the intercom for the first time and it would be the first time everyone in the asylum heard his voice at the same time. "Attention all inmates, this is your new warden. Lunch has now ended, report to your cells where you will spend the remainder of your day. Dr. Hans will pass through everyone's cell to hear out any request or comments you have for me, he will report them to me before the day is over. After that dinner will be served, followed by lights out. That is all." Ghost said on the intercom as his voice calmly echoed throughout the asylum.

Ghost placed the intercom down and turned it off. "Now tell me Shadow, what set you off in the cafeteria? I saw how you attacked that man, you did not have the look of random joyous violence, you were striking with intent. What did the patient do to upset you" Ghost asked as he placed his shades on the desk behind him to show his eyes once again to her.

Ghost who had a straight face walked over to the doorway where Shadow was standing. "No you won't be going to solitary, I'm moving you out. There are people here who need it more than you. You'll be staying in the general area with a patient who just lost a roommate. You'll be bunking with Doppleganger." Ghost said as he waited for what kind of a reaction she'd have.

Ghost made this choice because he knew they were about on equal strength, both were females so he didn't have to worry about Shadow manipulating a male patient unless Doppleganger had a thing for girls, which he doubted.

"Dinner is not to long from now, so you don't have to go to your new quarters. I'm giving you the option to be my shadow...no pun intended. I figure it'd be a lot better than staying in a small area longer than you have to." Warden said as he moved past Shadow and out into the hallway

"Once again, the choice is yours" Ghost began to walk down the hallway where he was scheduled to meet with one last patient...Victoria Quint. Warden Ghost now stood in front of her cell, looking at her.

The warden stared at Alexei for a moment and then turned away, phasing through the cell. When he walked out he could see that Shadow was waiting away from the cell. He wondered if she was scared of what was inside.

He took a glance at a nearby clock and turned to one of the guards. "It's time for lunch, radio the rest of the guards to release the patients into the cafeteria." The warden instructed as he walked away from the maximum security area and towards Shadow. The warden had ran out of time before he could inquire any other patients. The guard did as the warden instructed and one by one each cell began to open.

"It's time for lunch Shadow..." Ghost said as he passed he without looking her way and started walking to the cafeteria. On his way there he passed Doppleganger's cell where he used his voice in a special way. "Wake up" Ghost said far from Doppleganger but he manipulated the sound waves so that it sounded if he were right by her ear. The tranquilizers should have worn off by then, so Ghost knew she'd wake up when she heard him.

The warden continued to walk down the hallway and into the cafeteria. He grabbed a tray of the new food he'd ordered for the asylum to replace the usual garbage previously served. The warden the took a seat at one of the empty tables and proceeded to eat, while watching the other patients.

His stare sent chills down her spine and when he almost whispered into her ear :"If I wanted you dead you'd already be in a grave", she quickly looked away from him and stared at the table. No wonder they called him Ghost, that man was scary as shit. She was scared and angry at the same time. Of course she didn't want to show that, so she made sure to remain calm until he left the cafeteria. As soon as he was out of sight, she frowned and violently threw the cake across the cafeteria. She grabbed the class of milk and drank it all without even blinking and then threw the glass on the floor as well. It tastet great and for a short moment she secretely regretted that she had thrown the cake, but then she shook her head and left the cafeteria before she was told to clean up the mess.
Shadow soon found her new cell and stomped over to one of the beds without even looking at the other female. She was angry on the new warden. Ghost. How could he play that whole "I'm not angry... I'm dissapointed" act on her when he didn't even know her? She kicked the wall in frustration and then sat down and bit her toungue. She should probably try and relax before she was put in solitary again.

The next morning

Ghost hadn't slept the previous night, he was out wandering the asylum, exploring. He startled some patience because of his ominous presence in the asylum. He really lived up to the title Ghost. At the beginning of the day he watched as Gotham City Police brought in more of the fewer patients who escaped the asylum when the breakout happened, no super criminals yet though. The warden stood by the door as he gave each patient a glance as they walked in.

Shortly after Ghost walked back into the building Dr. Hans had arrived to the asylum from his house on the outskirts Gotham City. He walked in looking like he didn't want to be there. He looked at his schedule for today which included psychiatric evaluations with John Black, Alexei, & Brandon. He was most anxious to see Brandon, wondering what mental shape he would be in today.

When Hans greeted Ghost in somewhat awkward meeting of silence he headed to the intercom. "Good Morning all Arkham patients. Breakfast will be served shortly followed by rec time. Wlll the guards posted by John Black's cell release him from solitary and escort him to my office. Would the guards also release Dr. Calhoun from Juggernaut's cell, he will report to the warden's quarters immediately."

Soon after breakfast was delivered to every cell except John Black's who's have his waiting for him in Hans' office. Ghost personally delivered Shadow's breakfast to her, not saying anything as he passed her to continue on to the hallway leading to his quarters.

Dr. Klarheit got on the intercom as he watched John Black leave. "Attention. All patients of Arkham please move to the recreational area outside as your cell doors are opened. This includes all maximum security and solitary patients just as before. That is all for now." Hans blared from the intercom.

Ghost sat at his desk and removed his shades, to reveal his pale eyes once more. "I guaranteed that no harm would come to you. Were you harmed? I told you that you should not fear Juggernaut. Do you fear him now that you have spent the entire night with the man? You ate with him, you shared space with him, you got to see the world in his eyes, even if it were for a moment. With all this in consideration I ask again, do you fear him as you did before? Please answer truthfully, there will be no punishment, you have my word." Ghost inquired

"Still showing signs of hallucination" Dr Hans purposely says aloud as he writes it down in Brandon's folder. He looked up from the folder after Depravity asked the question. "The entire truth is this. Brandon is a medical doctor who seems to have multiple personality disorder, and the alternate personality is you. This is an asylum for the criminally insane although to you it may look like a throne room" Hans stated with monotone.

"Now if you choose not to aggressively interrupt me, I'd like to ask my first question. Can you describe everything that's been around you?" Hans asked. "I'm curious as to what you see."

Ghost took down some notes as Shadow sung her song. Mostly writhing that she had a terrible childhood concerning her father. He put an x next to the evaluation to remind himself to do a background check on her father. It'd probably take a day if he had a criminal record, but it'd take longer if he wasn't because he wouldn't be going through GCPD. If Shadow's father was a normal civilian he'd have t request information from city hall which was much harder because the paperwork load was twice as large.

"That'll be all for now Shadow. During our next meeting I would like to go deeper into the subject. I'm cutting this one short, so you have time to think about the subject. It's better to ease into something than to just recklessly dwell in unknown territories" Ghost said as he put away Shadow's new folder. "Would you like to remain here as I conduct my next evaluation or would you like to go back to your cell?" Ghost asked as he put away the new folder.

"Hold that thought" Ghost interrupted as he moved to the intercom. "Attention all patients, during dinner you have the option of switching roommates to anyone you'd like, anyone except patients of the opposite sex for obvious reasons. The switch must be voluntary from both parties. After dinner there will be no switching, so choose carefully." Ghost announced before turning back to Shadow to await her answer.

Ghost
A guard handed Ghost some notes from patients. He'd read them all and sent a note with a guard to deliver to Hans. He stood outside as he awaited the announcement, it was now time to start the day.

Klarheit
Hans received the note quickly and moved to the intercom.
"Good Morning Arkham patients, your cells will be opened momentarily after a few announcements from our warden. He tells me to read the following note." Hans blared over the intercom. Hans began to read the note.

"After reading the inquiries the following changes will be made:
1. Cells can now be co-dormed provided that the cellmates visit me in my office and request it personally
2. From here on out all evaluations will now be group sessions
3. Any guard caught touching a patient inappropriately or harming an inmate without appropriate reason will be punished severely

I have read every requisition and anything not addressed in this announcement will be addressed to you personally after the first group therapy session

Hans read over the intercom, the last part seemed silly to him, but probably knew Ghost was dead serious when he wrote it. "It is now time for breakfast. All patients head to the cafeteria. However the following patients please make their way to Warden Ghost's office for group psychiatic evaluation with the warden, Dr. Calhoun, and myself." Hans said as he pulled a list of patients out. "John Black, Brandon Robertson, Alexei Demetriou, Victoria Quint, Oliver Braithwaite, Rosalie Abbot, Laura Crawford, and Leonard Beington. Once again please head to the warden's office for evaluation."

Hans put down the intercom and made his way down the hallway and entered Ghost's office where a circle of chairs were arranged. Hans sat down and rifled through his folders.

Ghost
Ghost directed the movers to place the new mattresses in every cell including the ones in solitary and maximum security. The movers did this with haste since they were terrified of the place. They also took the old mattresses and began moving them out to their truck. The guards were on high alert with so many civilians in the asylum at once. Ghost however trusted his patients, but if something arose he would have no choice, but to punish them.
