Introduction
It was too good to be without a price.
As they say, "if you look into the void, something is bound to stare back." The skies distorted, a green hue replacing the bright blue, storms erupted and then that something emerged. His name was Lehechalesh, a being with many appendages and a hollow stare, possessing horrifying power that we had never before witnessed. We stood no chance, and were swiftly overtaken by the tyrant from another world. He ruled with an iron fist, unmoved by our plights, saying we were stupid creatures incapable of understanding the price of our insolence, that he knew what was best for us.
From beyond his gaze, we worked underground, once again binding magic and technology, training, with the intent to retake our world. Years of preparation, and we finally made our assault, many fell, or were driven mad by the twisted nature of the power, and in the end only the greatest of us were left standing against Lehechalesh himself. After a lengthy struggle that seemed hopeless, a decisive blow was struck and the once great titan fell with one final warning with a sickly laugh.
"How interesting, are you truly ready to hold your world as your own, to face the scavengers who will soon seek to pick at my corpse? Keep your freedom, if you can, for everyone has a price."
It soon became clear, whatever other things resided beyond the void was kept away due to Lehechalesh, and lesser beings began to emerge, after the power of the wounded tyrant leaving him to be quarantined in an effort to deter them. Worse was the discovery that the obelisks could not be shut down.
The surviving heroes had no choice but to train a new generation of defenders, the Knighthood of the Adrichal Protectorate, or KAP for short. While standard guard exists, these are the elite who are to stand against special cases should another like Lehechalesh emerge. Most countries have adopted this, with the exception of Kaymbden who have taken part in ethically dubious and extreme measures of augmenting select citizens, sometimes to the point of no longer being recognizably human.

Soon they would all pass through the gates and were now heading to the city which grew larger as they got closer, more explosions sounded as they did. "All units split up as we enter the city! We must cover as much ground as possible before any more damage is caused. Our presence will force the enemy to hopefully withdraw back into the subway, we will follow behind them and hunt down Errant and his men!" Valoel spoke with finality as they reached the city walls in five minutes, instead of using the entrance however, Valoel used her arcane magic to create flat purple squares in the air and stacked them up like a staircase. She soon used this to easily get over the wall and defended into the city where she was greeted by a hail of gunfire which she reacted with a magical barrier.
"Them KAP are 'ere! Our jobs done! Pull back!" One of Errants soldiers shouted as they began to make a fighting retreat, firing a flare off into the air signaling the retreat. Valoel of course was annoyed at the gunfire, however with a quick incantation and gesture, she fired off a orb of volatile magical energy sending it forward and next to one of the 'cultists' who leaped to the side but suffered some major shrapnel for his trouble but managed to shrug off his injuries before pulling back as his ally offered covering fire to prevent her from advancing safely.
They were skilled, she would give them that, however she would quickly slip behind one of the many buildings to take cover. Even if skilled, they were not psychic.

And sure enough, a cultist came for him. He was brandishing a heavy pipe, presumably looking to break his shield with force. Alexei sidestepped the strike, broke the shield and cracked the cultist across the head with the staff. He fell to the ground, dead or unconscious, he wasn't sure, but he didn't have time to ponder. He sprinted off to a building a short distance from the initial skirmish, vaulting In through a broken window. Quickly, he scanned the area for wounded comrades. One young KAP member was sitting at the far side of the room, bleeding heavily from a cut all along his face. Luckily, it had missed his eye and head wounds usually looked worse than they were, but his vision was still obscured by blood and his cheek looked bad. Alexei motioned the man over and set to work stopping the bleeding, telling him to stay alert for any cultists who might want to attack while they were vulnerable.

He spotted both his captain and the medic which had joined him, both of them seemingly engaged in combat. Suddenly the voices rose up, their words was the only thing that could be heard, enveloping his mind. "Now, Now! Kill them and escape, This is our chance, Kill them all!" They drowned out the smatter of gunfire and the injured yelling. They were really going, Like always they didn't waste their energy while he was in an controlled enviroment. They wouldn't try and corrupt him when they knew he was under control, but here and now, they had found a chance. Victor gripped his head, trembling in his boots while desperately clawing at his helmet. His eyes switching in intensity.
One of the cultist suddenly approached him, bashing something agaisnt the back of his head. Victor was hit with a realisation, or maybe it was the machete that impacted him, he was unsure. But this was not the voices chance, It was his, This battle shouldn't be difficult for him, atleast not while facing off against these cultists, he would only need to focus on self control. For that he needed to subdue the voices, give them something to please them. He slowly turned towards the cultist who had struck him, brandishing the machete for an additional strike, he swung his shield in a wide arc, hitting the side of his face. His head snapped to the side, his neck was immediately cracked. Before the body hit the ground he grabbed the throat of the now dead man, before repeatedly bashing his shield against his face. Brutalizing the poor guy, the voices squealed in appreciation, any nearby Cultists or KAP soldiers not so much.
The setting changes from Knighthood of the Adrichal Protectorate to Abgrundstadt
With a thought in mind, he reaches out and jumps onto her side, dwarved in comparison to the great beast. She reacts with a grunt, glancing back briefly.
"Sorry, babe, I'll be out of your hair as soon as we break over the walls," he says to her with a wave.
Unburdened by her passenger, she kicks hard with her feet and launches herself at the wall, hands out, and flawlessly grabs the edge upon impact and pulls herself over onto the ramparts by lifting up and perching herself on the edge with her hind feet, practically sitting up. She then, grips with her hind claws and lunges out towards the nearest building top, staying in the air for a good while before hitting the roof. Upon impact, Zeke lets go and flings himself into a roll before stopping himself at the edge with his foot out. Without word he waves back at the beast, who had already set off on her own way across the rooftops.
"Damn, that was wild," he mutters before looking out below watching as his comrades have already engaged the enemy, then scans about for a weak link which would come rushing by the building he was on. Within moments he jumps, catching the fire escape and dropping down on top of the unsuspecting soldier, kicking him against the wall. Knocked off balance the man would take a moment to retaliate, attempting to aim his gun only for Zeke to catch him first by slamming his foot down into the back of his knee sending the man tumbling down into a kneeling position. In this moment, the veins coursing down Zeke's right arm lights up until it hits his palm, and with a snap of cold breeze, the leg of the man becomes frozen in place, a pained groan emits from him as the ice pierces into the flesh.
"Suck it up," Zeke says as he leans over snatching the gun away from him then, with a raised brow. "Geez, what a relic, this thing still uses an external flintlock mechanism... bet the shells fired by this thing detonate upon impact."
The man does not respond, breathing slowly, opting to grit his teeth and not budge an inch. In Zeke's eyes he was acting the good soldier, admirable if it weren't for the complications their coup d'état has had upon the security of the city. Zeke then checks him over for some form of communication devices finding none on him. He then grabs his collar and pulls him close enough to hear every word.
"Listen, I got to get into contact with Rook before this goes all to hell," Zeke says sternly, stressing every word so he's perfectly clear. He then glances at the wreckage caused by their explosives, then back at the man. "More hell than it already is... This coup of yours is only making things worse for everybody."
Elsewhere, Viktoriya had taken to stalking along the rooftops, observing the men as they take to a retreat back to likely they base of operations, or what could be called such. It was awkward to her, she had been designated to eliminate Outsiders and yet her targets were little more than average humans, their rhythms were completely void of outsider influence. The only oddities were the ones she had observed from her comrades. Regardless, she was not to question her missions, only to follow them without fail. First, it seemed, that breaking their ranks would be the most logical.
She takes a breath, positions herself, aiming towards the firing soldiers below then, opening her terrible maw wide lets loose a deafening screech of fluctuating and disorienting frequencies. Though not lethal at this range, those caught in the way would soon feel a queasiness combined with a feeling of pressure in the head and chest as every part of their body would shake including chattering teeth.
The arcane blast injured many of the men, however not so much that they were incapacitated but they would be sore for a bit. "All surface forces, this is captain Rook! The shopping is done, fall back to the house." A voice sounded in the ears of the squad leaders. Before they had a chance to reply a horrid noise caused many of the man to clutch their ears and feel sick to the core. Their bodies began to shake as if it was scared of something. A few brave men looked up to see the form of Viktoryia, a monster through and through...
The squad leader coughed a bit as he held his head. "Those KAP...they ain't even human...Fighting retreat!...." The man ordered the man as they did their best to overcome this wave of nausea. However Valoel took this opportunity to get in close, sword poised and ready. The first man offered a bit of resistance, using his rifle he blocked the first strike of the sword however that was as far as he could go until a blast of magic impacted him at point blank range blasting a hole through his chest and sending him flying. The Remaining men soon retaliated at both Valoel and Viktoryia, gun blazing away as they slowly withdrew.
The other forces across the city soon began to hightail it to the subway entrance, or the hole that had just made. Their job was complete. And they began to plant timed explosives across the city. They all had long fuses, and would detonate in a few minutes. They made sure to hide them inside buildings and onto support structures before lighting the fuse.
Underground, Errant watched as the last of the supplies were being hauled deeper into the subway system. "Looks like our work here is done, lets hope we don't lose too many men up there...This will really put a dent in the KAP, less food, less water, and that means more angry people who will know they be running out 'O supplies. Yarharhar! Lets move before the KAP dogs come!" He soon began to walk away with the group of soldiers in tow.
The dance began. Aurel had been trained for this since a young age. Parry, parry– well-places kicks to stagger the enemy and then disposing of them with a swing of the sword. Dodge, dodge, reevaluate and strike. Before long the group had been dealt with, but in the kerfuffle she'd lost sight of her teammates. That was, until an unmistakable roar rang out in the streets– one that could only belong to their new member. Making sure her job in this area was done, Aurel headed towards the sound of the screech to offer her assistance, although she doubted Viktoriya would need any. Still, it's the thought that counts.
When they did, he ventured out toward the wall where they entered. He carefully trawled through the destruction for survivors. The sounds of the battle were still close, and Viktoriya's screech made him jump, but Aurel seemed to be taking care of things nearby, or at least until she advanced to help with the fight.
Alexei scanned the street. There didn't seem to be too many badly wounded, maybe three or four. He could count spotted another medic crouched next to a man with a bleeding arm. She waved when she spotted Alexei and gestured to someone in the middle of the road. He took it to mean that they were alive. As if on cue, they reached up and put a hand on their face. Alexei slunk over and put up a shield while he determined if he could move them to cover. A spray of gunfire bounced off the shield, cracking it slightly.
"Can you feel your body," he urgently asked the soldier, his eyes flicking between the street and the soldier. They looked feminine up close.
"Uh…" she clenched her fist over her abdomen. Little splotches of blood were forming on her uniform. "Yeah."
Alexei clenched his jaw. It seemed like her spine was unhurt, so moving her wouldn't be extremely detrimental. At the very least, it would be less detrimental than being shot to death. "This will hurt," he said, hooking his arms under her knees and upper body and lifting her as best he could and dragging her behind a wall. She hissed in a breath, but otherwise said nothing as he put her down, pulled on sanitary gloves, and began removing bullets from her abdomen and stopping the bleeding where he could.
Victor's eyes flared up, this was good, this was one of those opportunities he had imagined. His mind was still clear, just the few odd words being formed, they would probably be awoken once he started to shed blood, but he would be damned and do something good before that. He couldn't see the medic that was targeted, but he was apparently skilled in some sort of magic as he shielded himself from the stray gunfire. Victor leapt forward, he had a sudden urge to utter some sort of cool line but he couldn't form the words as one of the soldiers noticed him. It was still quite the distance between them and the soldiers we're trained enough to spot the obvious threat the sudden charging knight made. Victor was beset by several hails of gunfire, blasting the pavement in different directions. Victor rose his shield over his head and upper body rendering the bullets completely ineffective, but really that action was more of a formality as the bullets who tore into his legs and stomach bounced away only causing buckles to the armor. One of the voices suddenly rose in a roar, that roar amplified by Victor as he made an inhuman screech while crashing through the small barricade the soldiers had created, sending he nearest one careening into the building behind them.
The rest was...fuzzy. Victor kept his one rule in close check, it had been heavily worked into his mind. He would not draw his sword unless specifically ordered to do so by a KAP higher up. So he resorted to using his armored hands. The soldiers quickly realized just how ineffective their attacks were, atleast after the first two had been dismembered, and started retreating.
A good two thirds of the soldiers managed to retreat throughout the alleyway, the least experienced among them perhaps slightly traumatized. Victor himself was busy ravaging the bodies. It was pretty clear that he was no longer the only inhabitant of his mind.
With those words the man quickly reaches into his coat and an audible click followed by an all too familiar hiss occurs. Zeke's eyes widen, shocked that the man was so crazed to light a charge at such a short range, and in doing so was leaving him with little choice for action. Errant draws back as the man swings a strike at him.
"The hell is wrong with you," Zeke yells out, seeing the explosive device, some kind of homemade pipe bomb made of old metal piping welded together, likely stuffed with enough powder to kill them both. "You'll blow us to hell!"
"For Errant! Death to KAP," the fanatic chants, holding the explosive out into the air, the fuse now clear to be alarmingly short.
In that split second, however, Zeke's veins once again glow blue in his right arm and strikes the man across the face with enough force to dislodge his jaw, a searing hot pain striking the man's face, steam emitting from the impact, sending him toppling over. The pain forcing his body to loosen grip of the bomb, and it is set adrift in the air. The second knee jerk reaction from Zeke is to swat the explosive with the back of his hand, as hard as he could. The impact of which immediately sends a shock from the back of his hand and up the nerves of his left arm telling him he's busted something, but succeeds in sending the bomb away some distance before exploding. The blast knocking Zeke onto his back, a piece of shrapnel grazing his face and leving a bloody gash on his shoulder. His ears are left ringing as all sound becomes drowned out and muffled.
"Damn... psycho," he groans, struggling back to his feet, checking himself for substantial wounds. Broke something in the left hand I think, better do something about the shoulder... gonna suck. With his right hand he presses his hand against the shoulder wound, searing heat hissing as he does so, gritting his teeth in response, until the wound is cauterized. Taking his breath, his hearing slowly returning, he looks over at the man, bloody mouthed, few less teeth than before, but out cold and alive. With a sigh, he rips off some fabric and binds the man's hands and feet. "Doubt I'll get any thanks for sparing your ass, but it ain't exactly for your sake anyways."
Elsewhere Viktoriya snaps off a door from the roof, a solid steel one from the looks and holds it close to her face with one arm like a shield, protecting for the most part the intended area, her face, as she lunges forward at them at great speed with full intent to plow into them like a charging rhinoceros, striking the nearest man against the door and mercilessly flinging his broken body aside, bent in ways a body should not bend. Beside her a man takes aim and fires a direct hit into her shoulder, only to find his shot not as effective as he had hoped leaving a minor wound, and worse his reflection in her green eyes, horrible teeth baring as her muscles tense up and hair stands up.
"Hos..tile," she roars, drawing up slightly slashing the man across the torso with her middle right claw leaving deep gashes as he falls to his knees before being struck by the makeshift shield and thrown into the retreating insurgents as she roars at them. "Kill...con..firmed!"
"Just like a mayter eh? Well don't let his distraction distract you idiots as well! Get a damn move on!" Another soldier pointed at the entrance to the subway just as soldiers who had finished looting or escaped death had run inside. Valoel was too busy engaging and winning in a sword fight with one of the Pirates to catch up with the retreating units. The man giving his life to stall her. "Take this you damn KAP dog! You only blindly follow your orders! You now work with beasts! You work with people who have no morals! You lot are unfit for duty, the best you all can do is roll over and die!" The man exclaimed as his sword clashed with Valoel's before cracking under the pressure of her magical sword and before it shattered he took one last moment to aim a pistol at her and fired off only one single round before her sword cut through his torso. The bullet struck true, but Valoel's plate Armor resisted the full brunt of the bullet. "We must be too late...they must have already got what they came here for...this makes the fifth raid this month, this ends today..." She muttered as she gave chase.
Of course, once the soldiers had withdrawn into the safety of the underground, the explosives left behind by Errants soldiers ticked their last. Explosives went off one at a time all across the block of the city, buildings with their supports blown up began to topple over, shops were turned into infernos, glass shattered all across, debree was sent flying and worst of all smoke began to bellow from the city. One building in particular was falling on Valoel who was forced to stop her pursuit and run back before the building crushed her. "Bastards! They turned the whole area into a death trap!" She yelled as her attention focused on falling rubble now.
"The hell's going on?" Asked the soldier between coughs. She had to repeat it several times before the medic heard and understood.
"We've been screwed," he shouted in reply. The sound of rending rebar and crumbling concrete filled the air.
The soldier sat up. Her face was green, but she understood the gravity of the situation.
Alexei pulled her over the broken street as fast as they could manage. A small miracle kept them from being crushed to death, but they were cut and bruised something awful.
As they moved toward the gate, Alexei brought his headset closer to his lips. "Are any medics still alive?"
There was quiet for a moment before a crackling response came over the headset.
"Eide here. Hotakein's in my line of sight and I think he's alive."
Alexei sighed in relief, passing his charge to the other medics who were prepared to evacuate them back to their headquarters. "Good to hear." He glanced behind him. Things seemed to be under control here.
Gingerly, he checked himself for broken bones. At first, he thought his sternum might have been, but upon examination, it was just bruised. He would be fine, so he headed back the way he had come, careful not to disturb the precarious rubble. He kept his eyes peeled for living KAP members and civilians, hoping that most of them weren't now red splotches on the pavement.
"Is that... a door? Oh honey, we need to get you some better equipment," she said, shaking her head and cutting a retreating enemy behind the knees. He fell forward and she finished the job with a slice to the neck.
The others were too far away for an immediate attack but she didn't stop her advance as she through her gaze up at Viktoriya again, "Remember to tell the medic if that wound hurts, it'd be awful if you fell during your first battle."
With that she picked up the pace and ran after the hostiles, though Viktoriya had an advantage and could easily pass her if she wanted to. Still, she jumped up on a crate and kicked off in an awkward, almost frog-like fashion, landing into the nearest enemies with both swords pointed down. Careful not to loose momentum, she swung herself off the enemy and into the next in a deadly pirouette. A third enemy raised his gun and fired towards her torso– knocking her off her feet in a moment of inattention. The armour absorbed most of the damage and she was soon on her feet, but she couldn't see the perpetrator anywhere.
She turned back to where Viktoriya had been last as she said, "Where'd he go?" – but her words might have been muffled by the beginning of explosions. Christ, are they trying to destroy the town?
Until the pavement directly underneath him lit up in a ferocious light. Victor was suddenly sent cascading through the air. High up above the buildings an additional piece of pavement hit him square on, the entire piece was bigger than Victor himself sending him even further off course. Underneath him an inferno of fire and explosion thundered out across the city. That crazed sight growing closer and closer at a distressing speed, without any kind of warning Victor suddenly impacted the side of one of the houses, the stone and wood underneath him giving away completely leaving him lodged into the house directly next to the alleyway in which Zeke had tied up the cultist.
He just slightly poked out of the buildings exterior, smoke trailing out from the almost comical sight. As for Victor, he was certainly roughed up. His body was out, which only left him with his thoughts. Which was screaming at him to wake up, certainly not a very pleasant trip to unconsciousness. But that might be the wrong word, if Victor fell unconscious then the demons would immediately seize control of him. He simply couldn't force forward enough energy to stand again. Most of it was concentrated on not completely giving in instead.
"That was close, did that debris have legs," he exclaims, taken aback by this abrupt turn of events. He takes a moment to wipe his eyes and looks up at the impression left behind in the structure. "That armor I've seen it... Ah hell, Victor!?"
Without further hesitation, he leaps up to the now bent and hanging fire escape to climb into the hole left behind by his comrade's body and kneeling down beside him. At first he considers checking his pulse but the armor kind of ruins the reliability of such, instead opting to pull out a knife and holding it before his mask, and watching for it to fog.
"Damn, you really can take a beating," he says, some relief in his voice as he sheathes his knife. He pecks at Victor's helmet in an effort to return him to his senses. "Hey, you awake? How's your head? Can you stand, man? Not going to just leave you here as some Avant-garde decorative piece."
Elsewhere, Viktoriya watches as Aurel arrives and, after a moment, notes on her lacking in proper armaments. It is true, a door is hardly an ideal weapon, but to Kaymbdenites, just about anything can be adjusted into combat applications if necessary. One of the common weapons they utilized in the war were modified pneumatic hammers. Still, she did feel some shame in having to rely on something so flimsy as a simple door, steel or not, her ears drawing back some as she looks at Aurel, then at the door. A tinge of embarrassment visible in her expression.
Before she could respond, however, she found herself dealing with another insurgent with a death wish, firing away at her with a shotgun, gradually whittling down her makeshift shield into metal scrap. Unfortunately, for the soldier, he had to pause to reload, and soon he would have to reach into his coat to reload new shells. At that moment, she draws the door back and lunges forward, finding the other end of a bayonet as she does, making an effort to maneuver in a split second she ends up cutting her face against its blade. Without even a grunt of pain she resumes the momentum, snatching the man's arm that is holding the shotgun and forcing him to ram it into his own face, then shoving hitting him in the chest with her right upper claw, followed by an audible crunch as various bones are cracked including his ribs.
Breathing quickened, she the city around her turning into a blasting zone as the foundations of buildings are blown out from below. It was a trap, no doubt, her ears stand on ends, and for a brief moment her eyes are filled with the all-too-human feeling of shock. Valoel had charged ahead, her designated commander, and was now running back as a building was toppling down towards her, and worst, threatening to block their path.
Viktoriya throws the busted door aside, arches her back like a cat ready to strike and bounds forward to the collapsing structure, drawing in a sharp breath and once more snapping her maw open wide letting loose a resounding wail. At first it seems to have done nothing, but quickly a hole forms within the cloud, of dust and debris, dispersing it to the sides violently as an invisible force reduces the concrete to pebbles, and clearing a path to where the men had retreated to.
"More... traps... expe...cted," she mutters, as she shakes off the debris that had now saturated her fur. "Advise, alertness to... surr...oundings."
With this she moves forward more cautiously towards where Errant's men had retreated to, what seemed to be an entry point for the abandoned subway networks. It could prove opportune.
Well they had a clear path to the subway now, and Valoel began to follow behind Viktoryia as she warned about their surroundings. "Of course...No telling if there are more explosives or an ambush waiting for us...The rest should be heading to the subway like I said. So we shall be the forward force until they arrive." She spoke as she heard the sound of footsteps not from the subway, but from behind.
Soldiers from the KAP. A small squad of at least six men. Armed in standard KAP armor and weaponry ran to Valoel who stopped walking to turn around. The men soon stood at attention and saluted Valoel. "Ma'm! It is our honor to meet a KAP knight! We are the remnants of the men who defended the area from the initial cultist attack, we shall assist in any way possible!" The lead soldier spoke with a salute. Valoel simply nodded. "Then if you are our support, then arm up. We are heading to the subway to hunt down the cultists that attacked the city. Other KAP knights shall be reinforcing us soon so you shall stick with us." She motioned at Viktoriya who was heading to the subway before saluting and turned around.
Underground, Errant and his forces were returning back to camp. "Corporal, status report on the surface." Errant spoke as he walked forward through the dimly lit subway. Smoking his pipe while he did so. "Sir! The KAP has eliminated some of our men, however our losses were not that severe. Some were newer recruits, a bit were older veterans. We also have one last gift for those KAP soldiers that I am sure you will love sir..." The other man chuckled he twirled a mustache. "A gift? Do indulge me in what you had planned soldier." Errant spoke his interest made known. "I don't want 'ta spoil the surprise sir...We have to watch from the cameras. But all I can say sir is that they wont see coming. In 'uva topics, our special weapon is fueled and ready. Give the word, and we can gun down the KAP 'un finally wipe out the damned KAP." The man chuckled followed by Errant. "Yarharhar! I look forward to this surprise! If this is indeed good you are looking at a promotion and a weeks vacation!" Errant slapped the back of the soldier next to him as he vanished deeper into the subway, his laughter fading away as it did.
"Is he alive, Sir?" Alexei quickly saluted Zeke as he reached the top of the ladder. He unbuckled the chest strap of his medkit, preparing to take it off. Judging by the way that his superior was acting, Victor was alive, although perhaps not for long. An impact that strong would have killed a smaller man, so maybe he was bleeding out on the inside. "May I attempt to treat him, Sir?" He looked to Zeke. The other man seemed to know Victor, at the very least better than Alexei did. He returned his eyes to Victor. That armor of his hid many of the injuries that he must have incurred. At least it might have saved his life.
"Seems like a good plan," Aurel agreed with the other two. She followed her with long-legged but stealthy steps towards the entrance, before turning on her heel to find a small group of men approaching them. Luckily they were on the right side, and saluted their superior officer mid-battle. She stepped aside to let Valoel advance toward the entrance.
Swords drawn, she followed the rest inside, sticking to the shadows by the walls as best she could as she scouted for enemies. Remaining straight by a pillar for cover, spotting movement further in, she signalled to the others what she'd seen and continued to stand still. For now, she wanted to remain hidden until she knew what they were dealing with. Especially if they were right, and another trap was waiting for them further in.
It was like waking up from a bad dream, desperatly scratching at the surface Victor finally managed to regain his mind. The demons had given up for the moment, limping back with slow, ominous whispers. He gave a glance towards Zeke, his eyes slowly regaining more and more of it's shine. It took a moment as his vision improved. He switched his gaze from Zeke, staring towards Alexei, looking between the medic and the medkit he was holding, a low animalistic growl escaping him.
Victor cursed inside his head, what had gotten into him, he was snarling like an injured wolf. It certainly gave the message across, he didn't want to be treated in any way, but growling!? He cursed again as the voices sprung up. "Aha! What, what!? Look at us, we need us! Our bones twisted and our meat mangled, but we do not need to worry, we have us." A suprisingly gentle magic ran out of the small cracks in his armor, slowly seeping around him. Healing one might call it, but more rapid regeneration. Victor continued staring eerily towards Alexei, slowly regaining his mobility and snarling threateningly.
"Geez, you okay? At least you seem intact for the most part. How bad is it, think you ca-," Zeke says, cut off as he begins to growl at Alexei, his eyes glancing back and forth between the two. He then decides to speak up, taking note of the magic escaping from the breaks in his armor. "Don't take it personal, doc, I'm sure Victor himself appreciates the gesture, it just seems he's got his own form of healing. Better just give him space. You can ease up, Victor, he won't do anything you don't need."
With that out of the way, and hopefully stated clearly enough, he listens, hearing the fighting getting quieter outside. The others had moved on without them, no doubt.
"You healthy enough to keep going, man," he asks, not really expecting much in the way a vocal response, looking out a broken window to see the rest of the group heading into the subways. "Now that I've confirmed that you are in fact still kicking, you can either just rest here or we can join the others together, your choice."
Viktoriya watches with her luminous eyes as she steps carefully, vision already well adjusted to the dark, ears picking up even the subtle scurrying of rats. Many Kaymbdenites spend most of their lives in subterranean tunnels and facilities, if it weren't for the hostiles, this would have almost felt like the comforts of home. Her ears raise as she catches the faint echoes of laughter, sending her survival instincts on alert. They were certainly aware of their arrival, and they certainly have some form of countermeasure to intruders, some trap set up... and were laughing about it.
"Bad," she mutters, her eyes narrowing.
Valoel was careful, keeping low and advancing forward. She very much knew there were traps probably set up all over the place. Explosives ready to be shot, an ambush, anything. However that was the least of her concern...there was pillars in their way however many was cleared away. It was rather open with a handful of cover. It smelled like a trap.
At the base camp for Errant, they were using old security cameras now fully restored and functional. "Aye Rook. 'Ight on schedule I might add. Time to send the order..." Rook's Corporal laughed as Rook himself watched the cameras. "Remember, get that woman alive. If not just kill her. It be better to have ourselves a hostage, a very important one at that...young and foolish..." Rook grinned as he scratched his beard.
For the KAP soldiers, the leader of the group received his order. "Lets put on a show lads...this is gonna be good..." The voice chuckled as the 'soldiers' aimed their weapons not past Valoel or Viktoryia, but at them...
Suddenly spotlight flashed from the other side of the area along with a few dozen soldiers with weapons aimed at them. "Got you bastards!" and from behind them the men spoke up. "We got you hook line and sinker you KAP dogs!"
"Damn! They disguised themselves! Viktoryia to me now!" She shouted channeling a massive amount of magic and projected a magical barrier to cover both sides just as the gunfire from both sides erupted sending bullets in their direction. "Clever bastards...The barrier wont last forever, we need to hurry and---" "Fire the cannon!" A voice shouted over the gunfire as suddenly a massive ball of iron hit her barrier causing it to fracture at a much higher rate. They had cannons?! They would not last long.
Using her communicator, she fumbled with it as her life was on the line and managed to get it to work. "This is KAP Knight Valoel! I need immediate assistance in the subway!" She shouted into her earpiece.
Rook and the men in the command center all laughed as their plan was proceeding nicely. "Yarharhar! That was great indeed! Look forward to your new badge in the morning Corporal! Get the next thing ready. They are going to get their reinforcments soon and I want them all dead when they do..."
He was listening to Zeke when Victor began to growl. Alexei put his hands up in a non-threatening way, understanding the growl well enough. A strange mix of relief and fear when he saw the glow of magic. "I understand," he replied to Zeke. "Plenty of people don't trust butchers like me." He smiled, evoking the less than kind nickname for his profession in an attempt at self-deprecating humor. "But as long as everyone turns out alright, it doesn't matter who does it." He hefted his kit back onto both shoulders. "Well, I'm sure I'm needed elsewhere. If everything's all set…" He gave Zeke a once over visually. He was concerned about that shoulder, but he seemed well enough to continue on. Besides, Zeke wasn't stupid. Morons didn't survive the fall of Lehechalesh. If he needed help, he'd ask. "...Then I'll be on my way." He gave a salute and went back down the fire escape.
Alexei dropped the last foot or so to the ground and shook out his limbs as he began the trek toward the subway. His chest was aching and it was slightly hard to breathe, especially deeply. All of that jumping around on the fire escape had agitated it.
A few times, he paused to inspect a soldier on the ground, but every time except for one, there was nothing he could do. He was tying a tourniquet just above the ruined majority of a knight's leg when the sounds of gunfire echoed from the subway. Not a long after, a crackling voice came over his headset. Immediately on alert, the medic adjusted the frequency in time to catch the second half of Valoel's call for assistance.
Alexei changed the frequency on his headset and listed out the coordinates of his patient to the evacuation team and confirmed that the others knew Of the plight of Valoel's company. He waited until they were in sight, giving him as much assistance as he could on the ground, then he started off again with the company of another medic. They weren't going to let Valoel's company die.
They crept into the subway, staying out of sight. The echoing sound of battle becoming louder. Alexei's face was stony as he drew his weapon and his staff. He at least intended to rescue the wounded.
It took him a second as he was seemingly losing himself while watching the carnage, he then tilted his head staring without a blink at Zeke. He stretched out his hand, pointing towards the subway. His voice, just like earlier desperately scratched it way through his helmet, it was frail and broken. "Join others, need us, quick." He stated, seemingly facing out again as he stared, this time at Zeke. He then dove, without any kind of warning off the roof, landing with a loud crash on the road underneath, shattering some of the pavement in the process. He looked at the disappearing back of the medic, still feeling slightly bad about how he had acted. But he didn't have time to feel bad. The voices was furiously shouting at him for speaking earlier, swarming through his head like an army of angry wasps.
There was no straight way to the subway, pieces of rubble and a few walls would block the way, but that also works excellently. One can say whatever they want about the remaining intelligence that Viktor has, but he is still learning, still capable of adapting. One of the things he had learned, was that there was ways to calm and satisfy the inhabitants of his head. Through violence.
Viktor started simply beating his way through obstacles, punching past boulders, ruins and entire walls, it was quite speedy way of travel seeing that Viktor was pickin up more and more speed. It was only a question until he got heated up again, and by that time he should have reached his targets.
Reaching the scene, he freezes the moisture accumulated upon the ground to send himself into a sweeping dive into the nearest enemy soldier, striking him in the base of the legs and then cracking a blow across his jaw, before retreating behind the barrier made by Valoel.
"Let me guess, trap," Zeke asks somewhat facetiously, shaken by cannon fire hitting Val's barrier. "Hell! Are they firing cannons!? In an underground passage?! That is really... strategically flawed."
Reacting immediately to the orders she was given, Viktoriya retreats behind the barrier as well, ears ringing from the boom of cannon fire. It was a trap, it was too obvious not to be one, this is their domain, and in fear of causing a collapse she opts not to using anything sonic while down here. With a moment of thought, she instead glances around before her and catches one of the used, still rather hot cannonballs, and picks it up. With a feat of sheer muscle, she flings it in the direction of the cannon, whistling as it flies towards its destination, perhaps at least taking down some gunmen in the process.
On the other side of the field, the cannonball smashed into a makeshift barricade before bouncing off and impacting one of the gunman sending him flying. "Keep shooting! The barrier wont hold for long!" A man called out as they prepared another cannonball.
Meanwhile for Rook watching from the safety of the command center, he chuckled as he spoke in his communicator. "Send it in...We got a bunch of their elites right where we want them..." He chuckled to himself as he put a pipe in his mouth and smoked from it.
"Right sir! We are sending it out on the way. Estimated time two minutes sir! All hands are ready and all supplies are stocked. See you on the camera sir!" A voice replied as Rook chuckled. "This is going to be fun..."
He glanced at the other medic. They intended to make a dash on the count of three, but bolted sooner because of Zeke skidding past them. Better to all slip past the barrier at once. Alexei put up a shield as they ran and the other medic shot at the enemies, providing some cover.
"Hello, Sir, Ma'am," Alexei said, not bothering with a salute and instead setting up two more shields to supplement Valoels'. Viktorya caught his attention as she threw the cannonball. Even if the Kaybdenite experiments were unethical, no one could say they weren't effective. Alexei glanced up at the tunnel ceiling. "I don't suppose that your shields would protect us from a cave in?" At least if they weren't crushed, then Viktorya might be able to dig them out.

Once bustling with activity carrying passengers about the city, these subway lines have gone defunct from the cataclysm, now sheltering those few that worship the ones from beyond.

Once a natural park known for its relaxing dirt trails is now twisted by the other world. Some flora and fauna is not native, and are certainly not welcoming to hikers.
