|| Personality ||
Koemi for the most part is the easy going type, but living with the head of the Tenzou is typically a friendly happy place to be. She is completely loyal to him and would give up her own life to protect him. Many times Koemi can be extremely optimistic in some of the most awkward or difficult situations she always seems to find the bright side of it. She believes that everyone has goodness in them and it often times saddens her to see someone choose to be hurtful or disrespectful, except in the case of the Tenzou head.

If anyone were to disrespect or try to cause her lord harm it brings out a fiery part of her personality. She will stop at nothing to get to whom or whatever might cause harm to him and snuff it quickly and harshly without a second thought. He is the one thing in her life that brings out the passion and complete loyalty she took upon herself when she became his bodyguard. Something she thinks highly of and would never do anything to jeopardize that loyalty. If anything were to cause him harm, and she failed at her mission she would take her own life to die next to him.

Koemi also has a bit of a 'tomboy' streak, considered by many to be very unladylike, when she was young she was often scolded for this. But as her training to be a ninja went forward those aspects of her personality became an asset. Her lack of concern for her appearance, the fact that she doesn't mind getting dirty, the willingness to do things that many other females would refuse to do at times. She see's many things that other women might worry about as frivolous or unimportant and just something that gets in the way of doing her duty.

|| Skills ||
Koemi is proficient in the art of ninjutsu and specializes in using Shikomizue (sword sticks). Thought as a child to blind in one eye over time it was determined that the red orange color of her right eye gave her the ability to see slight movements in her opponents, that make it easier for her to calculate what they might do next, giving her the appearance of being able to 'see' the move before it is performed. Believed now to be a blessing from the gods, she uses this ability to make calculated decisions in battle before executing a plan. This however can only be used in bursts at certain times in battle, and can only be activated once combat is started. It is not a picture into the future were she knows the outcome of the battle, just the probability of what her action against her opponent might make at a certain time it gives her an advantage when it comes to making quick decisions, that will produce the best outcome. The technique does however drain her stamina in battle so it is only used in dire situations.

|| Biography ||
The Tsukino family has always been in the service of the Tenzou, many years ago when the first Tsukino ninja came indebted to the Tenzou demon clan, the family was almost wiped from existence do to illness when a bad winter hit. The Tenzou clan took in the Tsukino and provided them with a means to survive, so stared the tenor of the families servitude. However it has never felt as though they were looked down upon, the family had always felt appreciated and cherished by the Tenzou. Every generation the eldest son of the Tsukino family has taken up the mantle as the personal bodyguard to the head of the clan. Unfortunately Hisoka Tsukino the eldest and former bodyguard to the clan head did not have any sons. His wife who had died in child birth gave birth to a girl that was named Koemi because she was born quite early it was feared that the child would not survive either. However, the young girl survived, except for what appeared to be a flaw. The child's eyes, the peculiar color of her right eye was believed to be an effect from a tumultuous birth and that she would be blind int he defective eye. However as time passed it became apparent that despite the red orange color of her eye she could see perfectly fine. This began the battle as to who would take her father's place as the Tenzou bodyguard if something were to happen to him or once Hisoka was to old and unable to continue his duties. Many believed it should be passed to one of Koemi's male cousins or perhaps Hisoka should try to remarry and produce a male child. Hisoka however was loyal to his beloveds memory and refused to remarry, he also refused all suggestions that the next oldest male take his place. He decided to break with tradition and train his daughter Koemi up to be the next bodyguard to the Tenzou clans head.

Many thought him foolish to train a girl to do this, but he chose not to listen and through this it was determined that Koemi was an excellent ninja. Her petite frame made her agile and quick, and something else her eye. Her father noticed that many times Koemi would know what move he was going to move before he did them, and often times, before she had been trained in the moves he was using. When his daughter would tell him what she saw, and what happened he would notice how it would weaken her, but it also would give her the opportunity to block attack. Eventually she learned how to hone this ability and to not over use it, once when she was in a heated sparring session with her father she used her ability too much and dropped unconscious onto the ground. Her stamina completely drained to the point of complete exhaustion. From that point on she knew that she must only use her 'seeing eye' in dire situations when no other path is clear. Finally the day came when all of the training that her father had put her through became needed, her father died protecting the head of the Tenzou clan and took her father's place. By this time she had proven herself, to the other members of the family and the Tenzou so her place was not questioned.

Now she strives to do as her father did, protect the head of the clan and if need be give up her own life for her.

Takaya Kaguya

Image
The first thing that entered his mind, was that he was hungry, so naturally he had stopped by a shop for a quick sip of tea and food. He had wandered away from Takeshi a while back, deciding they would meet up later. After all, it had been two weeks since they left for Kyoto together...and honestly, he was to tired to deal with the man's blood-thirsty actions. On their way back, they had run into some bandits. Takaya wanted to negotiate with them, but his partner had other plans. He had just cut them down quickly. Then they continued on.

As he sat and waited for his order, a drunkard had wandered into the shop, much to his disgust. He wrinkled his nose slightly, and silently hoped the man would just leave or pass out. He was wrong though, like always. The man released a sigh and stood up and walked toward the drunkard who was currently hitting on the poor waitress.

The next thing that happened, the tatami door flew down and the one who knocked it over? The drunkard's body. The man stood up, wiping his mouth a flush still evident on his face as he looked up at Takaya. He walked out calmly, back into the Edo heat. Despite what most people thought, he was quite comfortable in his attire, despite it looking to hot for the day. The man spoke, a slur evident in his voice.

"Hey youz...W-why the hell didja' do dat for?!"

The shichitou member remained quiet, his blue eyes narrowing towards the man. He didn't respond, choosing not to waste his breath on people like him. With a sigh, he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword. It was just an intimidation act, since he wouldn't draw it for no reason. Using his other hand, it slid partly the katana, it's silver blade reflecting the light of the harsh sun toward the man.

The man paled, easily shown on his flush face. Quickly, he got p, before stammering a slurred apology and ran off the other direction. Takaya watched for a few moments, before turning back into the shop and returning to his seat. The owner thanked him, and he nodded in return before sipping his tea calmly. He was still hungry after all, and started to eat the mitarashi dangos that waited for him at the table.

Shinka Tenzou

ImageHaving crossed the Tsugaru Straights, and having experienced her first ever ride in a rocking, unstable, sickening ship, Shinka praised the Eternal Buddha, all the Bodhisattvas, and all the masters of her lineage for the ground she now treaded on in Honshu. This exuberance to be on land after the admittedly short distance they had traveled by sea remained with her throughout much of her landbound travels to the lands of her southern friends and neighbors, the Yukimura's, the dread of the return trip occasionally springing to mind. She and Koemi had been trekking across the country without major incident for quite a while and had come within possibly a day or two's journey from the supposed meeting. Whether Shinka was early, late, or had completely fabricated the meeting in her mind didn't matter at this point. Hokkaido was filled with stress, as people who want one dead are wont to cause, and Edo was not only free from such things, but contained an actual friend.

Unfortunately, the uneventful travels of Shinka and Koemi had ended prematurely. While Koemi had been sent out on an errand of some kind, her master, meditating in the room the generous inn had provided for a traveling nun, had been stumbled upon by a drunk. Now the accidental opening of her door had not broken her concentration on the phrase floating about in her mind, and the slurred apology had mended any damage that had been done. What had caused the ruckus, at least from Shinka's perspective, was the drunk's friends coming after him who were interested in the nun's blonde, streaked hair. It wasn't that unusual of a quandary, as she had experienced many like it, but now was not the time for answering; she had put off these meditations for over a week now and didn't want her lack of discipline to continue.

Then one of them, curiosity overtaking caution, touched it, and so the unrest began. She would have forgiven it graciously, but she had received a cut on her palm from when she struck the man's face. And she would have forgiven that had she not broken her sandal on his hip. And, at that point, the group of men, sans the drunk who had continued on to his room, weren't exactly forgiving themselves, and she now had to overcome a mob before getting back to her meditations.

The first fell with a dislocated shoulder and two broken ribs. The second was flung to the ground and experienced a rather debilitating backache from his impact upon the floor. The third was knocked unconscious by a palm suddenly striking the left side of his head and tumbled to the ground. The fourth tried to escape, but only made it out of the door before five fingers wrapped themselves around his calf and flipped his entire body, causing him to land in the courtyard spread before the rooms, several bits of gravel digging their way into his face and torso.

When the staff of the inn, understandably startled by the commotion arrived at the room, they found Shinka dragging the last of the bodies onto the veranda so they could be taken care of away from her. She glared at all the spectators that had emerged from their rooms to see what had happened, and then reentered her room, sliding the door closed behind her so that she may return to her task. She returned to her full lotus position, knees touching the floor with hands rested upon them, and attempted to block out all the noise from outside her room by chanting the mantra.

The tuck and roll of the ship was somewhat soothing in a way, not being entirely familiar with traveling on the ocean this was a comforting experience to say the least. The sound of the wave splashing against the ships hull, almost lulled Koemi to sleep. However she was sure that the Lady Tenzou's experience with sea travel was not as enjoyable as hers. When they landed on dry land once again, she made a mental note of Shinka's reaction. The prayers and praises to Buddah were more than enough for Koemi to see if there might be a better way, so that the return trip would not be so traumatic for the the Tenzou Clan Head. But that would have to wait, they had to press forward in order to make it to the gathering of the clans in time. Despite the Tenzou's gratefulness to be on land, Koemi was more uneasy now that the hardest part of their journey had begun. She was not so naive to believe that they were so safe in this land, peace was not always what your allie was seeking. So her fears for the Lady Tenzou's life grew, because she knew there was more likely to be a problem now that they were on land and traveling on foot then it had been before on the ship.

Despite her suspicions and worrying the first two days of traveling the lands on their way to the meeting at the Yukimura's was quite uneventful. When they reached then inn Koemi was looking forward to a much needed rest, sleeping in a real bed was almost a dream to her after camping for the past couple of days. One would think that the Lady Tenzou would prefer to stay at an inn each night, then to set up camp out in the elements. But that was quite the opposite, Koemi supposed that is why she and Shinka seemed to get along quite well, neither one of the liked to conform to the standards of most females around them. Koemi made sure that the Tenzou clan leader got a decent room in the inn and when she heard what was to be on the dinner menu that evening from the inn keeper. She was sure she could find something more to Shinka's liking somewhere else. When she made her way to a nice restaurant not to far from the inn she was sure things would be alright long enough for her to run in and get Shinka something to eat. Besides what harm could come to the lady sitting in her room meditating.

When she returned, happy with her choice for the meal not only for Shinka, but herself; she was met by a distraught inn keeper and his wife. They were raving on and on how The Lady Tenzou had made a complete mess of things and had bested some of the finest warriors in the town, also not to mention some of the inns best customers. Koemi gave a sigh and asked pardon after pardon from the inn keeper who was on the verge of telling them both to gather their things and leave. But after some more apologies on Koemi's part and a few extra coins, they agreed to let them stay.... as long as the were out, by the morning. This was immaterial to Koemi because that had been the plan from the beginning. But the fact that she couldn't leave Shinka to her own device for more than ten minutes was a bit aggravating.

With a sigh of regret she made her way through the corridors of the inn till she made it too the door of the Tenzou head's room. She gave a gentle knock, announcing her entrance into the room. As expected Koemi found Shinka meditating the room filling with the sounds of the mantra.

"My Lady I have brought you your dinner for the evening, it would have been warmer. But I was stopped by the inn keeper and his wife on my way in. Seems there was a bit of a ruckus involving a group of patrons that had drink a little too much saki..."

She sat the carefully wrapped food on a small table in the room as she bowed respectfully. She didn't see the point in bringing up the confrontation anymore than needed. The men had been in the wrong for drinking themselves into a stupor so much so that they where unable to get themselves into the correct room and even more in the wrong that they had lingered long enough in the Lady's room to raise her ire.

"I managed to get you some peaches as well"

Koemi smiled gently as she started to untie the bundle, and neatly arrange the meal on the table. The little bamboo boxes sat in rows, all filled with various dishes that Shinka was more familiar with and accustomed to eating.

Shinka Tenzou

ImageThere were several series of knocks on Shinka's door after having removed the unwanted bodies from her room. Most of them were loud and accompanied with either shouting or a faux polite tone. One time someone even managed to open the door before the meditating nun looked up at them with frustrated eyes before he quickly shut it and his footsteps could be heard hurrying along the veranda. Then it was quiet, and the mantra was the only thing that Shinka could hear, up until another knock which, had it not been immediately clear as to who had done it, would have caused the calmed blood to boil once again.

When Koemi spoke upon entering the room, her words left Shinka feeling as if she had just been scolded, though the young girl was far too subtle about it to elicit any real reaction. Even so, with the mantra having been recited quite enough for the day, and her mind too muddled with recent annoyances to meditate, the introduction of food–good food, not the staled mush they feed to inn patrons–was a blessing. And so her feet ceased resting on her thighs and her hands, no longer forming meditative gestures of folded fingers, were instead on the floor, her palms providing firm support for the eventual rising. Her feet planted themselves properly on the floor and, with a little push from her supportive arms, she was upright and turned to face both her young protector and the meal she had brought for the two of them.

In a few strides she had reached the table with the three little boxes arranged about and lacking any food that Shinka found distasteful. Having surveyed the spread and decided upon what to eat and in which order–the supposed proper order be damned–her legs were then relieved of their arduous task of several steps as her body returned to the floor. After making sure that her loose sleeve wouldn't be dragged through any of the food, she reached across the table and took hold of one of the peaches Koemi had retrieved for her. She took a bite from the fruit, making sure to take in as much as possible without having her teeth hit the central pit, and all of the tension that had been built by people touching her hair or constantly knocking on her door was swept away by the beloved taste.

Swallowing the bits of fruit after she had thoroughly enjoyed their taste, Shinka finally turned to Koemi. "Thank you Koemi. Food foraged from the wilds and provided by pious alms are extravagant feasts compared to the... food these southern commoners eat." She took another bite and chewed enough of it so that her words were more intelligible through the food her tongue was busily processing. "Now, tell me: is there any other task, duty or luxury, that you would like to perform today? Keeping pace with a nun, let alone a demon, seems like it would be tiring and preparing for bed early might be for the best." Her lips curled into that of a smile as her sincere words of worry turned into playful mockery. "I would like to leave for our destination as early as possible tomorrow, and I can't have my young protector becoming drowsy and neglectful during the last day of the journey."

Amaterasu heard a noise in the corner of her ear. She didn't stop the horses or slap the reins, but did immediately turn around to face the bush that had made the shriveling noise. Ama let one tight grip off the ropes and reached down for the sword at her waist. She was always the woman to be cautious of anything, whether it's just a stranger passing by, or a bird chirping in the trees. Her hearing was definitely acute, and she liked to use that to her advantage when protecting her mistress.

After a while of looking back and realizing that nothing had jumped out threateningly, she turned back to the front, letting go of her sword and grabbing the reins again with both hands, letting out a sigh. Ama knew that she was always over protective, and she knew that it was simply annoying to many people around her, and she wondered if her mistress thought that way about her too, but she decided to focus on getting the two of them, and the others that were following behind, to the Yukimura territory.

"Amaterasu calm down and relax a bit. Don't you think I've thought of all the possibilities before making the decision to come here? Being the clan of the South we are to travel the farthest than the other Heads."

Ama opened her mouth to say something, but found it better to think before speaking, something she hardly did and a flaw that was easily pointed out by anyone. After a little while of silence, Ama answered while looking back at her, "Yes... I understand, Miss Ayane. I suppose my imagination of the worst makes me doubt your thoughts." She felt bad, since she was so protective, that it could get the better of her and upset her mistress. That was something she was set on changing over the passing time.

" Amaterasu, think about it. Do you really believe I would be wasting my precious time with this trip if it didn’t mean something? Everything has its purpose and this is no exclusion of it. Even if things were to go wrong as long as I am able to get away everything will be alright. Besides I wish to see how the others are doing and this is a rare chance to do so."

Ayane then puffed a dragon-shaped black cloud into Ama's face, causing her to pull back a bit and cough at the same time. She then turned her eyes back to the road, thinking about her words, although her thoughts were completely contradictory to what she was planning on saying. It was hopeless, after all. Ama's defensive nature wouldn't leave, no matter how hard she tried. She's always worry and take extra cautions, but just to see if she could fool her mistress, she put on the most natural smile possible and said, "After thinking through logically... I believe you are right, mistress, just as you always are."

Although she was originally planning on leaving it at that, she then said slowly, and quiet, "Mistress... have you ever met with the Yukimura? Or any of the other clan heads?" Ama, even as a protective person, still had her moments of curiosity, like any other human being. Although she wasn't really a human. Or a demon. But still, "Well... I suppose it won't matter since we'll be meeting them today." Ama said, slapping the reins down since the horses slowed their pace.

A little while later, the scenery changed even more dramatically. The plains Ama was used to seeing after living under the Miyashiro for so long had been reserved into a green landscape of trees and plant life, more than she even thought could exist. It did fascinate her, to think that people lived in that sort of environment normally, and sometimes it all took her eyes off the road and she'd sometimes hit a rock underneath the wheel by accident, immediately apologizing various times to her mistress for the bumpiness. It happened a few times though, since she couldn't help it.

Ama had paid so much attention to how everything looked that time seemed to have flown by. When time slowed, Ama was usually bored or in a bad mood, while if she wasn't, time lasted a mere second; and that's how it really felt. Because of this, she realized she nearly hit the wall of the Yukimura's house, stopping the blinded horses just a few feet from the stone, "Miss Ayane," She began, hopping off the carriage and directing one of the servants to tie the horses to a pole, "We've arrived at the Yukimura's household."

Once the fantasy world she saw, through the green trees and plants, had disappeared, she snapped out of it and into her defensive mode once again. Her hand was laid onto her sword in a fashion that could easily be pulled out when needed, and she went right to Ayane, just in case anything were to happen. Surprisingly, no other heads had arrived just yet, 'I suppose I must have driven the carriage slightly faster than anticipated...' But she just solved this with a small shrug, 'Being first here cannot hurt. The Miyashiro are always on time. I expect our first impression to be the best...'

"Do you need help getting out, Miss Ayane?" She asked, offering a hand if needed since she wanted to do anything possible to assist her mistress. Yet at the same time, her eyes seemed to have speculated the grounds coldly. Almost like a priest staring into the eyes of a demon, Ama didn't look as if she was trusting of the clan they were visiting, or any other clan for that matter. All that mattered was the Miyashiro, and the Miyashiro only.

Koemi Tsukino

Image

Koemi did her best not to show her displeasure of the fact that Shinka had gotten into a confrontation in her short ten minute absence. She knew very well of the Lady's temper, you could not be a member of the Tsukino family and not know; but Koemi still had her quiet respect for the the Tenzou head that had practically usurped her position from her older brothers. Koemi herself had taken the position as the Tenzo head bodyguard against she odds and wishes of others who could have just gone against her father's wishes once he was gone. No her father had held high ranking and respect among the members of the family and his decision stood even after his passing.

Koemi watched as Shinka took bite after bite of her beloved peach, the demons look of pleasure was sublime, the fruit always seemed to draw the same reaction from Shinka. Koemi herself was not very fond of the fruit, but if it brought a small moment of happiness to Shinka, Koemi was happy to be there to witness it.

"Thank you Koemi. Food foraged from the wilds and provided by pious alms are extravagant feasts compared to the... food these southern commoners eat."

The bodyguard nodded "I was sure that you would not have been at all interested in eating the stew the inn keepers wife had prepared for he patrons and remembered the little restaurant we passed on our way into town. So you are very welcome my lady, I only wish to see you safe and enjoy yourself on this journey."

Koemi took chopsticks in hand, but did not take any of the food for herself she would wait until Shinka was finished and then serve herself from what remained. As Shinka took another bite of peach, Koemi patiently, and respectfully waited.

"Now, tell me: is there any other task, duty or luxury, that you would like to perform today? Keeping pace with a nun, let alone a demon, seems like it would be tiring and preparing for bed early might be for the best."

Koemi looked up "I assumed my lady that you would take a bath this evening before since it would be your last chance before we arrive at the Yukimura's. But if you wish to forgo it and perhaps do so when we arrive at our destination that would be acceptable as well my lady."

When Shinka smiled Koemi smiled back knowing that the incident with the drunken patron's was somewhat amusing, Koemi was fully aware that Shika was capable of protecting herself if need be. But as a Tsukino it was her duty to protect her none the less.

"I would like to leave for our destination as early as possible tomorrow, and I can't have my young protector becoming drowsy and neglectful during the last day of the journey."

Koemi let a throaty chuckle escape her mouth with another smile and gentle nod of her head.

"Yes, my lady and I think the inn keeper and his wife would appreciate our early departure as well."

Shinka Tenzou

ImageThe mention of a bath was something that perked the ever-energetic Tenzou's interest even if she had just gotten out of one immediately prior, so her servant bringing it up at the tail end of a journey where the closest thing to a bath were those few times she spent in streams and rivers–though they were relaxing in their own right–made her almost flinch. She had considered visiting whatever hole in the ground this inn called a bath, but she had been conflicted about it since they arrived. On one hand, it was hot, hopefully clean, water to cleanse the skin, relax the muscles, and provide soothing relief to the thousands of constantly healing skeletal fractures that Shinka accumulated through her training. On the other hand, it was only hopefully clean. It had not been prepared by talented servants with freshly drawn volcanic water brought almost to boil, it was not her private bath to enjoy, and, after such a time going without, she would have hoped to have the extravagant bathing experience that the Yukimura estate likely had.

Unfortunately for Shinka's dreams, showing up to such an event without having properly washed for so long was improper, and the temptation of hot water was too great. With that said, Shinka had finished eating from the spread that Koemi had laid out before her, weighing the consequences of this great debate silently while she chewed. Having left more than enough for her servant to properly feed herself with the food she had brought, Shinka slid the remaining box over to her. "Perhaps you should start eating more than me; I have little need for a soft body or pleasant curves, whereas you might."

With that she uncrossed her legs and, again using her palms as extra leverage upon the table, lifted herself off of the floor and stood over her seated servant. Coming up with a respectable way to coat the fact that she was letting her desire to bath get the better of her, she addressed her ninja. "When you've finished eating we'll go see what manner of bath this inn has and clean ourselves as a respectful gesture to our kind guests the Yukimura's." Back at home, she had servants take care of most of the work while bathing; they undressed, cleaned, rinsed, dried, dressed and groomed her up until the point their constant fussing over her hair began to frustrate her. Now she supposed she would either have to do it herself or rely on her ninja, whose talent for washing others was unknown.
