Introduction

.
.
Ten years ago, an inscrutable and abnormal territory known as Hell's Gate appeared in Tokyo, altering the sky and wreaking havoc on the landscape. The real stars disappeared, replaced by false stars. During this time, people possessing various special abilities emerged, each capable of different supernatural feats - these are known as Contractors. Each fake star has a corresponding Contractor, which reacts to their activities. Kept secret from the masses, these individuals are known to murder in cold blood, smothering unnecessary emotions with logic and rationale. Their incredible abilities, however, are gained at the cost of their humanity - Contractors are thus named because of an involuntary compulsion to "pay the price" each time their power is used, which can range from eating particular foods and completing meaningless tasks, to self-harm and having their bodies change in peculiar ways. Various nations and organizations around the world train and utilize Contractors as spies and assassins, resulting in violent battles for valuable objects and information. Following the disastrous Heaven's War, the United States lost its dominant position as a superpower to a mysterious organization named the Syndicate.

If you are already knowledgeable about the manga/anime, scroll down past the terminology section for the plot-line of the roleplay as well as other character tidbits.

Terminology
Hell's Gate (地獄門(ヘルズ•ゲート) Heruzu Gēto)
A mysterious and chaotic area of space that appeared in Tokyo ten years before the start of the series. Its appearance led to the rise of Contractors and Dolls. A massive wall has been constructed around it to keep civilians – or anyone else, for that matter – from entering. Several countries, including Japan, are cautiously conducting research on the Hell's Gate, exemplified by a top-secret research facility PANDORA built next to the Gate Wall.

Heaven's Gate (天国門(ヘヴンズ•ゲート) Hevunzu Gēto)
Another chaotic area of space that appeared in South America and disappeared five years ago, along with everything in a 1500 km radius around it. Its exact nature at this point is unknown in the series. Its appearance apparently started a large-scale war, one in which Great Britain and Argentina participated. The area where the gate was has become inaccessible. Interestingly enough, Heaven's Gate and Hell's Gate are located on opposite ends of the globe and are considered exact opposites of each other.

PANDORA (Physical Alteration Natural Deconstruction Organized Research Agency)
A UN-operated research facility dedicated to studying the phenomena of Hell's Gate. Located on the edge of the gate within the walls, an international team of scientists examine the properties of the gate via manned and unmanned expeditions within. Paranormal phenomena akin to ghosts are not uncommon here, likely due to the lab's close proximity to the gate. Though run by the UN, it is not impervious to intelligence agencies; both the Syndicate and CIA have infiltrated almost every level of the research center. PANDORA has a heavily armed security force, consisting of armed soldiers possibly of various nationalities and armored vehicles, meant to protect its facilities and personnel.

Contractor (契約者 Keiyakusha)
Contractors are individuals who have gained supernatural powers due to the appearance of the Hell's Gate and Heaven's Gate. The existence of Contractors is kept a secret from the general public by most governments around the world, but they are well-known to the higher echelons of society and in the criminal underworld. Contractors possess two other traits that give them a rather sinister reputation: the need to perform remuneration, which is a bizarre, obsessive compulsive "payment" for the use of their powers, and a generally pragmatic, Machiavellian world view. This is described by the Contractors themselves as a lack of emotion in general, but not much evidence exists to verify this claim. Many Contractors exhibit at least some forms of emotion, including love, joy, guilt, and sorrow. They are described as being totally rational, and totally amoral. The general rule seems to be that they feel no guilt, and they cannot form or retain social bonds. A normal Contractor cares, in essence, only about their own well-being, and everything is reduced to a cost/benefit analysis: Any other issues like laws, emotions, or the question of the sanctity of human life are irrelevant to them.

Doll (ドール Dōru)
Emotionless "mediums" created to mimic the forms of humans. Dolls can form a variety of functions; the most commonly seen in the series is their use of observer spirits, which serve as reconnaissance. Dolls have different mediums through which they can send their observer spirits and must be in contact with this medium while observing; for example, a medium could be water, through which one can send their observer spirit anywhere else there is water. A Doll can also act as the perfect sleeper agent. It can be given the memories and personality of another person and assume a person's personality perfectly, mimicking all their habits, dreams, and feelings until the time is right. A theory suggests that Dolls can go beyond their "set" characteristics and become something else.

Moratorium (モラトリアム Moratoriamu)
An intermediate between a Contractor and a Doll. Moratoria appear to be people with Contractor powers who do not require remuneration as part of their power. Unlike Contractors, they do not have control of their powers, shifting into a hypnotic state of unconsciousness as they use them. Moratoria also suffer from severe mental trauma as a result of their power. The chance of a Moratorium morphing into a Contractor is near zero, but possible.

Regressor (喪失者 Sōshitsusha)
A Contractor who loses their powers in exchange for a flicker of hope for a normal life. There are very few known Regressors, and the way one becomes a Regressor is also unknown.

Meteor Fragment (流星の欠片 Ryūsei no Kakera)
An object coveted by many intelligence agencies and organizations, held at PANDORA. It seems to be connected to the appearance of Hell's Gate, however, PANDORA does not believe that it is of much importance as they had already discovered a similar substance in South America before Heaven's Gate disappeared. Its appearance resembles a large lens, and when inside the Hell's Gate, it displays an as of yet unexplained synchrotron light. This object allows entities which do not exist (such as ghosts) to appear, and also allows entities which exist to disappear (although this is unknown).

Contract Payment (契約対価 Keiyaku Taika, also referred to as "Remuneration" or "Obeisance")
True to their names, all Contractors must pay a price for using their powers, whether they wish to or not. Moreover, it seems that the amount of payment required is dependent on how much the Contractor uses his/her power. Although this payment can be delayed, especially in the midst of combat, it is ultimately unavoidable. Each Contractor has a unique remuneration, reflecting the chaotic nature of the Hell's Gate. Remunerations are typically difficult for the Contractor and range in severity from irritating to painful. However, there have been a few contractors who enjoy their remuneration and at least one who uses it in conjunction with his own ability.
Known remunerations include
Acupuncture
Alteration of age, swiftly growing older or younger
Arranging pebbles in meticulously straight lines
Baking
Drinking various fluids, such as hot milk, beer, or the blood of children
Earmarking the pages of a book
Eating various foods, such as boiled eggs or weeds
Inability to lie
Intaking and regurgitating objects
Kissing someone
Placing the shoes upside down on the ground
Pulling out hairs
Regaining human feelings for a brief time
Revealing a secret
Self-mutilation or injury, including dislocating fingers or wrist-slitting
Singing a song
Sleeping
Smoking
Losing function of body parts, such as legs
Writing poetry
Making origami sculptures
Revealing magic tricks
It is also possible for a Contractor to fully pay off his Contract, but this is an incredibly rare feat, requiring a drastic and traumatic sacrifice. In the series it has only been seen to happen in those Contractors who have the ability to swap bodies, where their contract requires them to eventually lose their original body as remuneration.

Plot
Whether a rogue contractor, a syndicate member, or a fighter of the Japanese Police, you are living amongst each other inside of Hell’s Gate. It’s a fight for survival daily and eventually, only the strongest will live until tomorrow. A new group of contractors threatens the city as they search for the meteor fragment. Along with this, they are forming an army of contractors to conquer Japan. Although a name for their group has not yet been established, MI-6 and other rule-enforcers have given the name “The Dolls” as most of their followers are ruthless and emotionless. Will you join the ranks of “The Dolls”, or will you fight for your life in one of the most dangerous cities on the face of this earth?

I’m not someone who likes making the plot all complicated. This is a roleplaying site for writing and creativity; spiffy it up by yourself. ~ Estrelas

Abilities and Mediums Already Taken

Estrelas
Molecular Manipulation
A powerful technique, which allows the user to manipulate electricity on various scales, even to the molecular level. The technique can work with all possible ranges. As long as an object is a conductor of electricity, the technique can be passed through it, making indirect attacks possible.
~Vin Starkr~
Mirrors
By touching the surface of a mirror, or a solid reflective material such as glass, the user can locate comrades as well as use Observer Spirits through the substance.
~Lyra~
Illusions
This ability enables the user to create an illusion for anyone in their vision field. This illusion can be enjoyable or painful. Sometimes to torture opponents, the user will bring himself into the illusion as well. The illusions can also be used to make a bigger battlefield or one that would be more useful for the user. While in the illusion, the person cannot move or see what is happening around them. If the person realizes he is in an illusion, the ability is useless. The illusions can also be made so that the opponent is fully aware of what is going on around him, but is seeing something that isn't actually there.
~Puck~
Absorption
This ability enables the user to absorb any sort of material into their body so they have the properties of that material (color, density, weight, strength, etc). If he touches steal, his whole body will become steal. Say he loses a body part in battle; using his ability, if he touches another person's arm or leg (etc) he can grow back a body part that looks like the person whom they touch. In cases such as this, Locke turns to Puck as they are mostly identical (other than slight variation in hair color).
~Locke~

crybloodredtears
Pyrokinesis
A powerful form of pyrokinesis, which allows the user to both create and control fire. Incinerating an enemy can also be preformed using this technique, as long as the target is within range.
~Rina Kobayashi~
Water
By being in contact with the substance Izumi can eavesdrop and track anything near water. This also works, to a small degree, with ice as it is the frozen (solid) form of water.
~Izumi Alkaev~
Sword manifestation
Sword manifestation works by the contractor summoning swords out of their body. This ability allows a person to create a sword or more from his body; it works best when he is near a person to launch a surprise attack, which has actually caught targets and contractors offside. The most notable use is through the hands two standard Katanas appear and exit from his hands or stay within them, it has been noted that when a katana from his hands are destroyed the new one gets slightly stronger.
~Zane Styler~
Hydrokinesis
This ability allows him to control the movement of water using only the mind or body. In most fiction, Hydrokinetic beings can control water, and he can become water, with he is also able to survive in deep
areas of the sea, and breathe underwater. Being well versed he knows how to use his power to a very deadly degree, it is often shown to control the molecular state of water, being able to manipulate the surrounding water in the air, freeze water, or even make clouds of steam. people with Hydrokinesis have a variety of abilities. like being able to breathe underwater, control water in all forms (solid, liquid, or gas.) and duplicating and curing water molecules and controlling shapes and molding water. Hydrokinesis is a defensive and offensive ability. He can use Hydrokinesis to pull moisture from the air, and duplicate the moisture into liquid and manipulate it, control the Hydraulics in machinery, and manipulate molecular structure in water to cause it to freeze or heat and possibly jellify. Hydrokinesis can also be used to make a water/hydro ball. It can be used for some sort of self defense. with this power, he can also create ripples, or huge waves of water.

The Dolls

" Leaving this place is suicide." Shiki stated, trying to stand firm against the leader as he agreed with the twin. His forest green eyes were hard as he stared at Vin. " Your suicide. Which I don't recommend because of the people following you." His jaw was set determinedly, " You want to be leader, then act like one and stop and think because, to tell you the truth, you aren't thinking at all right now."

Shiki himself wasn't even thinking as he spoke, just acting. He knew that Vin was more likely to get herself, and whomever she was with, killed than actually help with much. " I may not be leader but I know what's not good for the human body and, as you said yourself, you are still human." Shaking his head he added, " I will only call them down if you agree to stay and rest with one of us to stay here behind with you.."

The Syndicate

" I don't know, maybe?" Zane stated bored, he didn't really care right now. Although he was a little amused at how insistent the two males were on the woman staying where she was and resting. The red haired male hadn't realized that contractors could come across so caring.

The Dolls

"Fine," Vin said dully. She knew when she lost a battle. "You are staying with me. Call them down." She dragged herself back up to sit on the edge of the table. Her wound screamed in protest but she was done looking weak. She had to be strong for the group. A small, almost inaudible sigh of relief on Locke's part moved her, but her face remained emotionless and stoic.

"Come on down!" Locke called upstairs. "We're having a meeting."

Puck groaned, rubbing his eyes. "I don't wanna!" he yelled back childishly, but got up anyway.

The Syndicate

A small smirk lit up Rei's face. "Let's back off after we hear their plans. Once we know what they're doing we'll warn the Syndicate and then come back here and grab their leader and whoever is staying with her.

The Dolls

Heaving a sigh, the blonde haired young man nodded at Vin while his serious emerald eyes remained fixed on the woman as she perched herself on the edge of the table. She was obviously trying to remain strong in her weak state.

Izumi and Rina came down a few moments after Puck, the girl seeming more calm now as she stayed near the twin and doll. Her own green eyes were fastened to their leader, questions and concern filling them as her expression was blank. " What is next?" She asked, already having figured out what was going on.

The Syndicate

Zane merely nodded at the girl, keeping his expression blank as he listened intently. So they were planning another mission? And the leader had agreed to staying behind with one of them..? This would work out well then, or well enough anyway. He just wondered what their next mission was? Who would they attack this time and who was going?

The Dolls

"I want you guys to choose," Vin said simply, eyes traveling around the group. "Pick a target and do it. My ideas always seem to have a thought process, something that people can follow. Why not do something that will benefit our group while throwing our enemies off track?"

Locke and Puck exchanged glances. "We splitting up this time?" they said in unison.

"No. Stay together. Take your time and think things through. Don't rush into it, mmk?" The redhead wiped a tattooed arm across her sweaty forehead. "We'll be fine here so no need to check up on us-" she glanced at Izumi gently before continuing", instead keep your eyes on the people around you. Puck, if something happens to someone, you know the signal."

The two twins nodded and saluted mockingly.

The Syndicate

Rei groaned quietly. "Of course they don't say a plan," she grumbled. "Now we'll just have to follow them..." She looked royally irritated, although it was fake. Everyone knew that the only person she showed true emotion towards was Zane. "Or... we could just nab the leader." Her dark eyes flickered to Zane's face. "You think she's pretty?" she asked, emotionless.

[[dudddddeeee I'd love to see a love triangle between Zane, Vin, and Shiki. I also want to bring Jack in so he can flirt with Rina lol. That'll be interesting]]

The Dolls

The blonde doll nodded, understanding that he wasn't to try to keep an eye on Vin even though the others would probably want him to. But orders were orders and he wasn't one to disagree with what he was told to do. He glanced to his side where Rina was and noticed that she had shifted her blank green gaze from their leader to the doorway.

" All of us staying together," Rina began softly, " is very difficult to hide once the mission is completed.. We can do it but it's still difficult." She kept her eyes staring at the empty doorway as she spoke, her voice a monotone. That was strange for her. Her eyes flicked to Locke and Puck, knowing they would be pleased to work together for once.

Shiki, on the other hand, looked grim but still pleased himself. He was more cheerful over having gotten her to stay behind than risk going out and having a result of most likely bleeding to death. Not to mention, he'd noticed that she was going through a lot of pain just standing up, which made him wonder how she'd ever have survived running around with an injury such as hers. The blonde contractor knew he would be able to take good care of her but assumed he would most likely get a good talking to about how he had gone about making Vin stay behind.

The Syndicate

" Of course," the red haired male muttered, " Did you think we'd find out just like that?" He rolled his eyes at the girl before turning his attention back to the people inside, as well as his own thoughts. But, at her words, he turned his cold yellow gaze on her, " What does it matter if I think she is attractive or not? our mission is to take down the Dolls, not find them sexually appealing or anything." His tone was bored which, to an average human being, would probably have come across as kind of funny considering the topic he was speaking about.

[lol, then let's do that. Jack and Rina, eh? That should be quite interesting, I should think. Hahaa!]

The Dolls

Vin stared in Rina's direction, a look of worry flashing across her icy blue gaze momentarily before disappearing."You can split up afterwards, but stick together while you're working, mmmk?" she said with a little frown. Why so monotone? That worried her greatly. The Moritoria wasn't going through the change to a contractor, was she? Part of her knew it could be for the better as emotions were something that really slowed someone down, but having them were the only things that kept people sane.

"Fine. We'll get going then." Puck stood along with his twin, eyes upon the two younger characters beside them. "If we ever split up, Rina can come with me," he added after a moment's thought.

"Alrighty. I'll go with Izumi if that happens, then," Locke concluded.

The red-headed leader nodded. "Be safe," she said with a gentle smile, hoping the pain wasn't showing through.

The Syndicate

"I was just wondering," Rei said hotly, glaring at Zane as if she had emotions herself. But moments later they were gone and she was staring at the door to the base, impassive. "Let's get out of sight. I don't want them to see us..." With that the dark-haired contractor stood and crept around the corner and into the darkness of an alley, unseen.

[[haha yeah. I think it'd be fun >:D ]]

The Dolls

The white-haired girl nodded her head as she looked up to Puck for a moment. She was fine with whomever she went with as she worked fine with Izumi as well as either of the twins. " Okay." Rina said softly as she let go of Izumi's hand and, once again, turned toward the door and began to walk. Once in the doorway, she stopped and sort of half-turned toward the people still in the room.

" We always are." She said with a somewhat forced smile, her eyes remaining blank, before she turned and was quickly out of sight. If it weren't for her hair and visible pale coloured skin, Rina might have merged with the shadows. She moved cat-like, graceful and aware of her feet, without even seeming to realize this.

Izumi nodded his blonde head at Vin, murmuring a quiet, " Rest well," as he followed his friend out of the room.

The older blonde male watched them curiously. The girl seemed off somehow, different from how she had been when he'd met her and most likely more different from before Shiki had even joined their group. Not that he was worried or anything.

The Syndicate

The red haired male raised a vaguely amused eyebrow at Rei as her dark form merged into the shadows, disappearing immediately. Zane made no comment as he followed her quickly, also hiding within the darkness of the alley. The girl was quite odd and had some sort of fascination with Zane, getting 'jealous' easily whenever it seemed he liked another woman's appearance or something. Although he found others attractive and such, he did not have the emotional capacity to like someone.. Part of being a contractor.

"See-ya later, Vinny," Puck said, pausing in front of her to look her over. "Nice try at looking tough. It isn't working. Even the kids could see it."

The redhead shrugged. "It doesn't matter anyway."

"Don't die while we're gone, alrighty?" Locke added, watching her with smokey brown eyes.

"Yeah," she replied with a light, pained laugh. Then her face grew serious, stiff. "Keep your eyes on Rina, alright? If anything happens to her you will immediately tell me, whether through illusion or getting back here as quickly as possible." Partially satisfied with their nods, she watched as they filed out of the door after their younger companions. As soon as they were gone Vin groaned and leaned back to lie on the table, her legs hanging limply over the edge. "I'm going to dieeee," she whined like a child.

The Syndicate

Rei watched from the shadows as the four members of The Dolls left the base, eyes set on their goal. But what would their goal be? Where would they attack and how? She forced herself to keep focused on the situation at hand. They had to capture the two left behind without causing a big struggle. But how to do this? Suddenly she remembered the wound. It was perfect. "You ready to get in there?" she whispered to her companion.

The Dolls

The two younger teens walked slowly, the boy beside the girl but behind a little as she walked at a faster pace. She seemed to be going about this in a more businesslike manner than usual, her long white hair flowing out in the breeze behind her as she moved.

Shiki stared at Vin as she mentioned the others looking after the younger girl, keeping a close eye and notifying her. This made him curious but he kept it to himself as the twins left to follow the two blonde teens. After which Vin moved to lie back on the table, obviously in pain. " I'm going to dieeee," she whined which caused the male to roll his eyes as he helped her a little.

" No, you aren't. Stop exaggerating." He mumbled as he moved his hand to her side and lifted her shirt slightly. The bandages were going to bleed through quickly and would need changing often, Shiki was already aware of this. " We should change these regularly, minimum once every hour." He didn't care if they had the supplies or not, he would go steal some if he had to, but it was necessary to prevent infection.

The Syndicate

" Of course," Zane murmured with his usual emotionless tone. The woman's wound would make things easier for them and the person with her would do anything to make sure she would come through alive, meaning to keep her from exerting herself and bleeding out. The red haired male knew that the leaders companion would go along with them willingly if it meant the woman's life would be spared.. or they wouldn't have apparently bandaged her wound.

" Don't actually cause any permanent harm," he warned Rei, " Threats will do and even knock them out, if we must.."

The Dolls

"So what's the plan?" Locke asked, trying to break the tense air. He didn't like whatever was going on with Rina. The girl seemed more serious than usual. He'd have to keep a close eye on her, just as Vin had said. "Izumi, whacha think?" he asked the doll, knowing he'd be able to scope out a good place for attack.

Puck had his hands behind his head and was keeping his eyes on the sky as he walked. "I don't like leaving Vin there with Shiki," he murmured, more to himself than to the others at all. "She likes him way too much." His gaze flickered to his twin, almost as if saying, 'and you know what happened last time'.

=

"Yes I am," she replied, rubbing her eyes, again appearing innocent as a child. "I'm going to get really irritated if you keep lifting up my shirt," Vin added, peaking at him through her fingers. "I should just take it off." She closed her eyes and placed an arm over them. "I wonder what's going on with Rina. I hope she's not upset..." She was, no doubt. The redhead couldn't deny that. Her thoughts were scrambled as another cough rattled her bones. She coughed into her hands and felt the individual drops of blood on her hands. "Gross," she muttered and wiped her hands on her shorts.

The Syndicate

"Yeah yeah," Rei grunted. "Bring them back alive, I know our task like the back of my hand." She lurked towards the building, keeping out of sight and silent. The leader wouldn't be the problem. It was the other guy. But as she'd seen earlier, he seemed to have some sort of control over water, and against water she could work better.

The Dolls

Izumi, who already had his bottle of water in hand and his finger in the water inside, spoke quietly as his blank eyes stared ahead. " There is a CEO of a major pharmaceutical company in a bar nearby..." He paused for a moment as he sent his observation ghost to another place before speaking again, " He's with another man from a law practice." He turned his blonde head to stare at Locke with silvery blue eyes, " Is that alright?"

The white-haired girl turned her head a little as she spoke up, her voice soft. " It sounds fine to me." Her calm gaze moved to Puck and Locke respectively, almost as though she was asking them if it sounded the same to them. Then Rina turned back again, ignoring the one twin's carelessly loud spoken words.

---

Shiki sighed, rolling his green eyes as he released her shirt. " Do you want to get an infection?" His tone was hard and obviously irritated himself as the blonde moved to sit on the couch nearby. " Anyway, I think the girl will be fine. She's a Moritoria, correct?" He didn't wait for her answer; he already knew. " She's most likely just trying to keep her worries and fears to herself.. It's just a matter of how long can she hold it in before she flips..?" Shiki's emerald eyes flicked to Vin as he said the last, his eyes seeming carelessly bored while he was trying to get a rise out of her and judge her reaction to what he had said about the girl. The leader seemed to be pretty attached to her, oddly enough.

Then she coughed, spitting up blood into her hand. Vin looked at it for a moment before wiping it on her pants, " Gross."

He shook his head, " It's blood, of course it's gross. It wasn't meant to come outside of our bodies.."

The Syndicate

" Sure you do," Zane muttered as he followed her. Rei seemed to be an average contractor but with sudden sporadic bursts of emotion and, fake or not, he didn't want her to mess anything up for them in this mission. He wasn't going to have his own life at risk for this girl's stupid mistakes, even the ones she hadn't made yet. She seemed to have quite the temper and jealous thing going on but the question was; was it real or fake?

The Dolls

"Yeah, whatever, that's fine," Puck said, eyes flickering in every direction, creating escape routes before they started.

"Maybe we shouldn't just kill him," Locke thought aloud, more quietly than before. "I mean, killing him would make it seem like our fault. We don't want the people to hate us..."

His twin scratched his head. "How to make it not look like we did it... What an excellent question..."

=

"I won't get an infection," Vin muttered under her breath before falling silent. She stared up at the ceiling. Something felt... wrong... She could almost taste it and yet she couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was. She zoned back in as Shiki began to speak once more. Yes, a Moritoria. Yes, maybe she was just keeping her worries and fears to herself. Her form went stiff at his comment. Memories flashed through her mind, reminding her of the painful transition between Moritoria and Contractor. He'd crossed the line. And she was sure that he knew it.

The redhead sat up, shadows playing across her features. Without hesitation she hopped off the table. The pain was immediate. She didn't care. Vin limped stiffly over to where Shiki sat on the couch, stopping directly before him. "Don't ever take Moritoriums lightly," she hissed. Her hand raised and swung out to hit him straight across the face.

The Syndicate

Rei paused. Something was going on inside and she wanted to see what was going on. Once more she used her ice to create a reflection of what was going on in the room. She appeared unmoved as she watched the scene unfold. The mention of Moritoriums caught her attention. "He doesn't know," she whispered over to Zane. "He doesn't know that she was a Moritoria."

The Dolls

Rina stopped short at their words and turned to face them. Her expression appeared calm as the girl hoped it didn't give away her inner thoughts, how she desperately wanted to believe the twins' words. " You wouldn't kill him..?" She asked quietly, her green eyes shifting between the pair. She shook her head, her long white hair moving gently only to rest over her shoulders and back. " Are you joking?"

The younger blonde didn't say anything as his piercing eyes remained on the girl. The two older boys could handle her, he was quite aware, besides.. She looked off somehow with the strange look in her eyes. Usually so bright but now so dull and lifeless.

---

Rolling his eyes, the male didn't answer before the Vin suddenly hopped off the table and came over to him. Shiki raised his eyes to look at her just as she lifted her hand to hit him, she was stopped quite easily by him as he moved into a standing position. His hand catching her wrist an inch from contacting his face and he lowered it, not letting go. " So, you'll hit me for pointing out a fact..?" Shiki's emerald eyes, usually charming and full of fake emotion, were now filled with his frustration, anger, and even a little guilt. He realized, now, he had pushed her too far and said too much. But what had caused her to react like this? The blonde had no idea.

" Sorry," he said coldly, as his eyes suddenly hardened and lost all traces of the previous emotions. " but I know a lot more about them than even you would think I do."

The Syndicate

The news Rei whispered to Zane surprised him. Pretty much anybody who followed the Dolls knew about the leader's previous 'issue', for lack of a better word. The male ran a hand through his red hair as he stared over at the girl encased in shadow. " Well," he murmured to her quietly as he shifted his weight on his legs, " this might create an interesting new turn of events, don't you agree?" With that said, he slowly stood and moved around the corner of the building and out of sight. He would find a back way in, he decided as he hoped against quite a few odds that Rei would stay where she had been left.

The Dolls

"I mean we should make it look like he died of natural causes," Locke said, eyes cold and frowning. What was going on with her?

"Earth to Rina," Puck said, placing a hand on her head and giving her a little shake. "What happened to my little girl?"

Locke's gaze flickered over to Izumi as if silently asking if he knew what was up.

[[GAH I don't want to ask what's going on with her but I'm REALLY curious!]]

"Tch." Vin's lips curled back into a snarl. She ripped her wrist out of his grasp with startling strength and rubbed it with her other hand. "You don't know anything about me," she snapped. He'd clearly pressed the wrong buttons - and now he was getting the back-lash. "Only the twins know what I've been through because they've been there from the beginning. You don't know anything," she repeated. Head spinning but anger raging, the redhead sat on the opposite side of the couch, back against the arm-rest and feet on the middle cushion. Although she didn't show it, her side was screaming in pain. "You can't even begin to understand. You're just a contractor. You've been through nothing. Compared to me you're worthless," she hissed under her breath.

The Syndicate

"Yeah yeah," Rei murmured. She really hadn't been listening as she was too captivated by what was going on inside. 'How can such a pretty face have such an ugly anger?' She pondered this but her emotions stopped her from getting any real answer.

The Dolls

" I'm fine," she murmured as she rolled her eyes, pushing the older boys hand from her head and brushing through her long white hair with her fingers. She didn't understand how they seemed as though they cared, forgetting for a moment of the things they had done to protect her; even if it was ordered f them by Vin. They were still contractors so how could they care? The girl shook this off quickly as she smiled brightly at each twin before turning back around and managing to put a spring back in her step, her eyes never changing. " And how do we manage that? I mean, do we try to give him a heart attack or something?"

The girl twirled slowly, her long white hair fanning around her as she did so, but her black clothing making her almost blend into the surrounding shadows. After a moment she got a strange feeling inside, like something had changed, and she paused. Rina's hair swung around her once and became still before she turned to look back at them with curious and slightly worried green eyes, apparently herself again. " Wait, we left Vin behind with the new guy, right?"

Izumi ignored the look Locke gave him as he nodded his blonde head, his blank eyes hiding his concern and confusion for the girl in front of them. " Yes.." He knew she didn't trust him but he also knew that Vin had said to complete a mission; that was what they must do. Complete the mission before returning.

[Since you're asking I might be nice enough to say; it's simple. She's a Moritoria who is confused and scared about the things she does although she continues to do it because she feels safe with the ones she is with as well as she admires them and has come to care for them. Unfortunately, she also has no idea how to deal with the strange feelings, or not feelings, that have been occurring. As in, she is finding it easier to try to think more like a contractor but she is not one, and I have no intention of having her change into one. At least, not yet. -- does that help a little?? :s]

---

Shiki's dark green eyes didn't widen, nor did her flinch, as the woman in front of him wrenched her hand free from his rather light but firm grasp. He waited patiently for her to finish speaking before he finally parted his lips to have his say.

" Of course I don't," he stated, " I've only just met you, Vin. I can't know everything about you just like that." He snapped his long, pale fingers at this as he turned to look down at her from where he stood at the opposite end of the couch. " I'm not what you want me to be, is that it?" Shiki kept his voice cool as he raised his eyebrow. " How would you prefer me? How would I possibly be worth something in your eyes?" He kept his jaw set with his lips in a firm line, obviously showing his displeasure at this whole conversation. " How can I be worth anything if you haven't even given me much of a chance..?"

The Syndicate

Zane found a door easily enough and was cautious in opening it, knowing how infamous this woman was for having well-thought out plans and escapes. He was beginning to wish he had brought Rei back with him, she would be at least a little helpful right now. If he hadn't been trying to remain so quiet, he would have grumbled under his breath about the girl.

[[sorry for the late reply >_> ]]

The Dolls

The twins exchanged an emotionless glance before their faces returned to an indifferent state. Her behavior was bothering them; was it bothering Izumi as well? Inwardly they hoped that when they returned to the base that Vin would do something for the girl. Vin. Having her stay back at the base with Shiki wasn't something that either of them liked. But he had proved only this morning that he could take care of her, whether she wanted it or not.

"Well we could become an invisible force," Puck said quietly, thoughtfully. "And take him out like that."

"But we'd have to be careful because when it happens people are going to flood around him," Locke murmured, scratching his head.

=

"You can't be worth anything," Vin murmured, eyes boring into the cushions of the couch. "Nobody is worth anything. Nobody is worth anything at all. We're just pawns. Pawns to be used. Pawns to be broken." He continued to mutter under her breath, eyes glazed and a frown lining her lips - almost as if she wasn't there at all.

The Syndicate

Rei was growing impatient. She wouldn't begin until Zane gave her some sort of signal, but just sitting there watching their prey just lounging about was making her skin crawl. For almost a year now they'd been on the tails of The Dolls, but every time they got close they were thrown back away, lost and without and clues.

[Sorry for my post being so late. I went to babysit my nephews for the night. :)]

The Dolls

Rina was silent for a few moments before she suddenly spoke up, her voice quiet and thoughtful. " I want to help." The white-haired girl smiled at them as her eyes seemed to appear troubled, as she had always been over these matters. " I could create a diversion, a fire down the street. Then there wouldn't be so many people flooding around him so much and it would give us time to get away." People would be in the street and there would most likely be a lot of chaos, meaning it would be easy for them to blend and run off into the shadows. Easily done but would the others agree?

Izumi said nothing as he stared blankly at the older two, obviously leaving it up to them. He never really cared for making the decisions. After all, Izumi was the one who just located the targets and followed along to help with the escape routes.

---

Suddenly, Shiki understood. Perhaps only slightly but at least more than he had in the beginning of this 'argument'. " Why do you think no one is worth anything?" He asked quietly as he stepped closer to her, his emerald eyes serious but somehow kind at the same time. " Is it because of how the government and organizations treat everyone; ordinary humans, contractors, dolls and so on..?" He didn't know how to put it, not wanting her to freak out again.

The Syndicate

Zane finally grew tired of wondering if Rei had decided to do anything, knowing she was most likely waiting for a signal of some sort. He sighed as he pulled a small silver phone from his pocket, pressing one button and allowing the number to dial. Once he knew Rei had picked up, he hung up. If she didn't get a clue soon Zane knew he wouldn't be happy, he thought as he slowly found his way into the back of the house. He came up to another door where a sliver of yellow looking light was coming through into the dark kitchen he was in.

In a matter of seconds Zane had activated his ability, having a short and thin dagger come from within his hand and he shot this through the door as he opened it. This dagger hit the single working light in the room, shattering it, and left them all in darkness. Meanwhile the red haired man had brought forth another weapon, this time a long katana, as he moved quickly and silently toward one of the two other contractors in the room.

"That would be great," Locke said with a sigh. Although it was just a start, her volunteering her services reminded him that she was still in there somewhere. His eyes flickered up to the bar that was only a block ahead of them. "Alright, can you work your magic?" he asked quietly, eyes flickering to the younger girl. As soon as the fire began they'd turn into an alley as if trying to flee the flames. Once there they could render invisible. It was fool-proof.

Puck could tell what his brother was planning as his eyes flickered around them. It was fool-proof. Or so they hoped.

=

"You don't know anything," Vin said with a cold little laugh. She stood, head reeling. "Do you want to know the truth?" she asked. Standing had brought her unexpectedly closer to him. They were just inches apart and she had to look up to see his face. "The truth is--" Whatever the redhead was going to say didn't finish. The light above their heads suddenly shattered, showering them with shards of glass and casting them into darkness. Not even the windows, which were covered with old and broken blinds, provided much light. Instinctively she grabbed onto Shiki's shirt, pulling him closer, their bodies brushing. Her head flicked in every direction, eyes trying to pinpoint the intruder.

The door opened suddenly and a shadowed figure slipped inside; the door was quickly closed, and the work that she had done to adjust her eyes had been put to waste. Vin immediately did what any leader would do in her situation: she turned to her escape routes. Judging by the direction the dagger had come, someone was somewhere near the kitchen. Not bothering to think of what Shiki thought he could do, the red-headed leader pressed into action. Keeping him close to her so he could feel her movements, the direction she was going, she silently pulled him towards the closet near the staircase. It was the entrance to the basement. From the basement one could reach the sewers. It was a perfect way of escape. Hopefully Shiki understood which way she was going. Her energy was seeping out of her.

It was then that the pain hit her. Vin sucked in a breath and let out a little squeak of agony. Her hand traveled to her wounded side to find ice shards in place of the blood. Her torso was growing numb and her footing was wobbly. She hung onto Shiki for dear life, not caring how awkward the situation was.

[[I'll edit anything >_> I know I sorta just pulled Shiki along]]

Rina smiled sweetly at Locke and nodded, " Of course!". Her smiled slowly faded as she took a few skipping steps forward, always the cheerful girl, as she forced her mind to clear. It was as simple as, say, wiping a chalkboard clean. Her green eyes seemed to lose focus as she kept her gaze on a small shop just down and across the street from them and, within seconds, there was a small fire beginning in the front window. To anyone outside, it would appear as though someone had been careless in the kitchens; the truth wouldn't be known unless there was an investigation because anyone inside, if there were anyone inside, would most likely perish in the growing flames.

Soon the whole inside of the shop was an inferno of yellow and orange flames, devouring everything in it's path while staying confined to the one building. Any people who had been just passing by had stopped to stare and run away from the heat, while the white-haired girl stood still as a statue, seemingly frightened to the point of being unable to move. Although, there were three who knew the truth.

Rina was completely unable of any conscious thought as she turned to face the others and, if it weren't for her eyes, she might resemble a contractor as her expression was void of emotion and her tone uncaring. " Time to go." Izumi quickly ran over to her and took her hand, pulling the girl behind him to keep her hidden in the shadows as he tugged her into the alley.

---

" Of course I don't," he answered, his tone equally as cold. Shiki had managed only those four words before she had continued again, just before being cut off by the light above them shattering and the pieces of glass falling over them. This was accompanied by darkness, an inky black nothingness. As Vin grabbed onto the blonde's shirt, his own head was turning as his eyes cast over the near-empty room. A door opened, the kitchen door, and then it was closed quickly and the pair were no longer alone.

Shiki could sense the other person, no.. People, there was more than just one intruder now. Call it a hunch, sixth sense.. Whichever was chosen it didn't change the fact that they were most likely matched.. Or out-matched, at the worse case. He felt Vin pull him to the closet, a set of stairs lay within which would lead down to the basement. He had been informed about this only a few hours ago, luckily for that or he'd be confused by this point.

As he stepped carefully, quietly too, he placed an arm around Vin's waist to help her along also. He noticed a few steps in that he was becoming her support more than anything and, suddenly, she squeaked in pain. His unseeing gaze shot to her in the blackness and felt her seem to drop, her grip not letting go. So, he did the only thing the contractor could think of.. Shiki bent slightly and picked the woman up into his strong arms as he continued toward the door, stumbling as something shot by his ear. A knife? He thought as he hardly glanced back, knowing he wouldn't see anything there, trying to keep walking with the injured Vin in his arms.

[It's fine, XD .... I kinda said he had already been told about any possible escape routes.. It was easier that way. I can edit that again, if you want.?]

Puck and Locke retreated into the alley as soon as the flames appeared. They waited in the shadows, watching as Izumi pulled Rina to join them. The flames were huge, the smoke incredible. Even from their distance the smoke burned their throats. The twins exchanged a glance, one incomprehensible to anyone else but them. If they could feel impressed, they would have.

"Alright, let's get going before he escapes," Locke said. His hand was already locked tightly with his brother's. Since Izumi already had Rina by the hand, he took the child's small hand in his. Immediately they were rendered invisible, only their breathing and voices the proof that they were even there. "Let's go!" he said, hushed, and pulled them.

Puck was concentrating deeply in his illusions, trying to mask the sound of their footsteps as well. He clearly wouldn't be doing any of the killing. Locke, on the other hand, was trying to figure out a way to kill the man before he got to safety

=

Cheeks still flushed from Shiki's arm being coiled around her, she couldn't have gotten any more red in the face when he picked her up. Vin knew they had to get out into the crowds where they could blend in. Their opponents didn't know their facial features - or so she hoped - so being in a crowded area was all they could do. She had to be strong. Shiki could only move so quickly with her in his arms. The redhead, face contorted in pain, struggled out of his grasp as they made it to the door. She pulled it open as quickly and as quietly as possible before hurrying down the stairs, leaning heavily on the railing. "Close the door after you!" she hissed to Shiki, mind whirling. Her voice was strained, possibly because of the cough that itched the back of her throat.

Down in the sewers was safer. It was just as dark. And they had an advantage because they knew their way around. The redhead kept a hand on the wall as she staggered down the grimy walkway. With the other hand she pulled on the jacket that had previously been tied around her waist. As soon as she felt the change in direction, she knew they were close. Vin struggled around the corner before her hands found it: the ladder. The sewer cap to this ladder led to a back-alley, but in her state she couldn't open it let alone climb up the ladder without help. She waited impatiently for Shiki, heart pounding, face hot.

Rei was taking extreme pleasure in the situation. It was like training back at the Syndicate base; blindfolded and completely unable to see what was happening. But with this training she'd grown exceptional at working without using her eyes. It was almost a game to her. And they were about to win a game they'd never conquered before. She shot out two sharp shards of ice but neither connected. Instead they smashed into the wall, shattering loudly. "Dammit," she cursed, trying to hear where they were moving about.

[[yeahhh its fine :D makes sense ]]

Rina was silent through this, only distantly feeling her hand being squeezed tightly by the blonde doll. Her eyes were completely blank as she was pulled along, first by Izumi and then by Locke who pulled Izumi and then Rina in a line with Puck holding his other hand.

" If you can somehow mask flames, the smell and sound as well as appearance and heat, I could do it." Rina's voice was quiet as well as dull and emotionless in her trance. She was almost like a doll right now with her blank stare and uncaring attitude as she managed to keep up and not be dragged behind. " But that may be too difficult," she murmured almost inaudibly, rethinking her earlier words. Yes, too many things to hide would soon prove to be too difficult for Puck.

---

The blonde tightened his jaw in frustration as Vin wriggled from his grasp to walk by herself, moving down the stairs quickly. Shiki closed the door silently and followed, a pale hand on the railing as he took each step. He remained quiet as he followed behind her, not able to see very well as they made their way into the sewers. He knew she had put a hand on the wall, as he did now, to help 'see' where she was going. It helped considerably.

" Need some help?" he murmured as he passed her and made his way up the ladder as fast and as carefully as he could. Shiki then proceeded to open the sewer cap, pushing it to the side as he climbed out and looked back in. " Come on," he said impatiently as he stared into the dark hole at where he knew to guess where she might be standing now. Or climbing.. He didn't know if she was standing or climbing so she could have been doing either.

Meanwhile, Zane swore once he realized the two had somehow escaped the room. " Rei," he muttered as he kept still. He knew Rei was better at the dark games, she practically lived for it, and it was on of the only things he ever had to rely on her for. " Find them," the red haired male ordered, though it was unnecessary as he knew she would already be figuring something out.

[Okay, good. XD]

"I got it. Just concentrate on your fire," Locke murmured. He pulled out of the line, making sure Izumi was holding Puck's hand before completely letting go. He took on the form of air and slithered through the cracks in the doorway of the bar. Once inside he floated across the room to their target and coiled around his neck, cutting off his airways. The man began to claw at his neck, choking, sputtering out the food he'd just placed into his mouth. The bar tender attempted to help, but he couldn't feel the air-person that was wrapped around the man's neck. In a matter of a few minutes he fell unconscious, slipping to the floor. A couple more minutes after that, he was dead.

The twin pried himself off of the man and returned to his companions, grabbing hold of Puck's open hand. "Let's get out of here," he hissed, leading them away.

=

Vin watched Shiki as he easily climbed up the wrungs and out into the fresh air of the alley-way. She struggled up after him, grabbing his hand and using it as a way to help her out. A light sweat had painted her forehead; she looked sickly and pained, but she couldn' just stop there. "Come up with a way to blend in," she panted as she slid the sewer cap back in place with the side of her foot.

"I'm going, I'm going," Rei said, already moving. She weaved around the large table in the center of the room and felt along the walls for the door they'd escaped through. It took only a matter of seconds before she swung it open and began clambering down the staircase after the two. "They can't have gotten far," she called back just as she heard a clang of metal against metal. "They must have escaped through a sewer cap. Never-mind me! Go up into the streets to find them!"

Rina tilted her head before responding with a quiet, " Of course."

Locke was only gone for ten minutes, at the absolute most, before he rushed back and lead the group away from the scene. The white-haired girl followed obediently as she was tugged along, staring blankly ahead of herself at Izumi as he kept his hand firmly holding hers.

---

" That's easy. You look like your going to be sick anyway.." The blonde murmured to her as he forced her to lean against him. " No one will think much if I carry my drunken girlfriend down the street, if you require it..?" He left this open to her, completely her choice if the pain of walking became too unbearable. Shiki focused his deep green eyes on Vin before gently pulling her along, " Come on, and don't forget to stumble every now and then." With the dark clothes she was wearing, the blood would be difficult to see and it would only appear that she had spilled some sort of liquid on herself.

Zane was already moving before Rei even said anything, having had come to the same conclusion as he raced out the door and to the street. He glanced up and down before darting into an abandoned alleyway and searched the ground for any sewer caps, any possible one they may have used. It took a few minutes but he did find it. The red haired male bent to study it and immediately knew this was the one that had been used by the two. The cap was haphazardly placed with a few millimetre's of the cap still raised, showing they had been in a rush. There wear a few smears of blood, the woman's blood, around the one edge of the opening.

He stood and glanced around, his cold yellow gaze calculating as he rushed out of the alley. There was only one possible way for them to have gone.

The plan had run much more smoothly than they'd thought it would. Locke was surprised that it'd only taken them around thirty minutes to do the whole mission. But something else was wrong. It was a tingling in the back of his mind, maybe something like a sixth sense. He cast a glance over to Puck and even though he couldn't see his twin's face, he was sure he was frowning. They both had one thought circling through their heads: Vin.

"Hey Izumi," Puck said quietly as they weaved away from the scene. "Check on Vinny, would you?"

"If she isn't at the base, find her," Locke added in a whisper.

=

Vin's cheeks took on a light shade of red and Shiki forced her to lean against him. Her heart was beating, alarmed from the attack but excited at the same time. It took all of her will-power to continue along with him. "I don't need to forget," she grumbled. "I'm going to stumble whether I like it or not." Now amidst the crowds she felt a little safer, definately safer, actually. Even though their enemies weren't far off it would be easier now that they couldn't attack with all these people about. But they were still out in the open. They could still be spotted. Her violet eyes flickered to a small bar to their right. It was crowded; people were dancing, others were singing, and all were clearly drunk. Perfect.

"Common," she said quickly, taking him by the hand and doing her best to limp into the bar. She moved to the back so they couldn't be seen through the windows of the bar, let alone by anyone who ran in to check if they were there. The red-headed leader leaned into the back corner, face a little sweaty and full of anxiety and excitement. "We should be safe here," she managed, closing her eyes.

Rei pushed aside the sewer cap just as Zane stood up. She looked up at him, clearly frustrated. "Where'd they go?" she asked as she nimbly pulled her way out. "They can't have gotten far. We might as well check the shops around here." Without waiting for a response, the dark-haired contractor set off down the sidewalk.

Izumi, with his finger touching the water in the bottle, immediately put out his observation spirit in the base. All he could see was darkness and he could sense the emptiness in the room. " She isn't there, no one is." He murmured as he sent it out in a circle that grew wider and wider, out from the base to the surrounding area. " She's in a crowd with the other one," even in the doll's tone, his displeasure toward the new contractor in their group could be heard. " It's getting more difficult to find them.." His silvery eyes sparked as he noticed shadowy figures in the background of the area, two of them seeming to search for someone. Or more than one. " They're being chased."

Rina nodded simply, even though no one could see her, before muttering to the doll. " Let go of my hand," her tone sounded vaguely annoyed as she tried to wrench her hand from the blonde boy's tight grasp, only to succeed in making Izumi tighten his hold on her as the girl felt a finger become dislocated. Perhaps even more than one, she considered as she attempted to wriggle them.. Ending with her hissing at the sharp pain that coursed through her hand and up her wrist. Maybe more than her fingers too.

---

" Good," he mumbled as they continued along with all the other drunken couples and groups, weaving between other people who were just walking.. with drinks in hand and lopsided smiles pasted on their faces. They were all, very obviously, plastered. Completely and utterly drunk.. Good for them as it would provide Shiki and Vin with a cover for a short time at least.

The red haired woman quickly took him by the hand and lead him into a bar. They made their way to the back where they sat in the corner, an easily forgotten spot in the place if Shiki did say so himself. "Even better," the blonde sighed as he slouched in his seat, his breath coming quickly.

" How the hell am I supposed to know.." The red haired male muttered as Rei ran off, " Do I look like I met them on their way up..?" He was obviously becoming annoyed, even more so than usual, by the girl. But, never the less, he did follow the girl to check the shops. Perhaps the two were hiding out in one.

Arcs are bundles of posts from any location, allowing you to easily capture sub-plots which might be spread out across multiple locations.

Add Quest » Quests

You can create Quests with various rewards, encouraging your players to engage with specific plot lines.

Add Setting » 1 Settings for your players to play in

Settings are the backdrop for the characters in your universe, giving meaning and context to their existence. By creating a number of well-written locations, you can organize your universe into areas and regions.

Collectibles

By creating Collectibles, you can reward your players with unique items that accentuate their character sheets.

Once an Item has been created, it can be spawned in the IC using /spawn Item Name (case-sensitive, as usual) — this can be followed with /take Item Name to retrieve the item into the current character's inventory.

Mobs

Give your Universe life by adding a Mob, which are auto-replenishing NPCs your players can interact with. Useful for some quick hack-and-slash fun!

Mobs can be automated spawns, like rats and bats, or full-on NPCs complete with conversation menus. Use them to enhance your player experience!

Current Mobs

No mobs have been created yet.

Spawns

Locations where Mobs and Items might appear.

Events

You can schedule events for your players to create notifications and schedule times for everyone to plan around.

Permissions

Add and remove other people from your Universe.

Orphanage

By marking a character as abandoned, you can offer them to your players as pre-made character sheets.
