Introduction
Dragon Country
Human's are born with one body and one soul. Centuries ago, that changed. There came a Human born with one body and half a soul. This Human was discontent, always lonely when in a crowd, never satisfied...never complete. He left and the towns thought him dead. Until one day he returned...with a Dragon...
This Human's name was: Isac Vandane. He brought about a new age through a time where Dragon's were tyrants of the sky, Humans were tyrants of the land and mother nature still claimed the sea. Dragons were merciless, warm blooded creatures with only the sense to kill. It wasn't until Isac was born that a connection was discovered between Humans and Dragons. He tried to show others that Dragons were just misunderstood but it was difficult to show something that couldn't physically be seen.
When Isac died many thought that would be it but it seemed the gene went on. Others were born with half a soul and thus the time of dragon riders began.
After a long time of uncertainty a Haven was established in the mountains for those who had a connection with Dragons. Those who rode dragons, those who tamed them...and unfortunately those who slayed them. The image to the right is of the school in the mountains --->
These are the Humans born with half a soul. The other half of their soul resides within a dragon. Sometimes the Dragon's aren't even born yet, sometimes they are...If these individuals ever want to feel complete they must find their dragons and connect with them.
Dragon riders of course must learn to ride their dragons, and their dragons must learn how to treat their riders delicately- they must adjust to one another.
Dragon riders and their dragons have a telepathic connection that can only be expressed between the two of them. No one else can hear their thoughts.
Dragon Riders oppose Dragon Slayers- those who have yet to find their dragons curse the dragon slayers who could well Slay their dragon without even realising it!
These are the Humans who have one soul but have decided to dedicate their lives to study of Dragons in hope that a connection can be established between man and Dragon even without sharing souls. Dragon Tamers do their best to tame wild Dragons and make them civilized- they teach them a very basic sign language so that they can communicate. Its a dangerous job as some dragons cannot be reasoned with but there are a surprising number who are quite civil to begin with.
Dragon Tamers oppose Dragon Slayers for killing off wild dragons who have just as much right to fly the skies and exist as any 'half soul' dragons.
These are the Humans born with half a soul who have taken on the profession of Slaying wild Dragons. They are just like the Dragon riders apart from the fact they must already have their dragon and be efficient riders before becoming Slayers. Dragon Slayers oppose Dragon Tamers and think they're foolish trying to reason with wild dragons and trying to understand them. They believe only the dragons that share souls with humans are to be understood- the rest are mere animals.

I dont want 10 of the same thing! If theres too much of one kind I will get in a grump and close that kind of dragon.
If you'd desperately like another type of Dragon with an ability that fits in with those below but isn't listed please ask either me or Silver to look at your idea and I'm sure we'll accept it.
All Dragons are warm-blooded but their skins/scales may feel different.
Dragons of Air:
Its colour is pure yellow. Their skin is considered warm and moist. This dragon is all about the essence of speed. Incredibly fast and sleek it can fit through smaller gaps compared to other dragons and outfly them but cannot necessarily outfly their abilities. Can fly higher than any other dragon. Must eat often as it burns up alot of energy.
Dragons of Earth: |
Its colour is clear, dark green. It's skin is cold and dry. This dragon uses Earth to its advantage eating/ grinding up rocks etc giving it the ability to spurt out sand from a gland in its throat. Dragon can become ill if a large amount of water gets into its sand gland, fatally ill if it consumes wet rock.
Dragons of Wind, Storm, and Weather:
They tend to be pale yellows and pale blues, but change to angry red-orange, purple, or black when they call up storms. It's skin is cold and dry. This dragon can have one of the following abilities;
1-Can create electrical currents within its body therefore spurting out lightening from its throat.
2-Can create a considerable about of wind which comes out like a roar.
3-Can induce rain with a thunder like sound in the back of its throat. (sound breaks into rain clouds causing them to burst) This Dragon becomes tired easily no matter what ability it has.
Dragons of Fire: |
Its colour is pure red; it's skin is considered warm and dry. This dragon consumes fatty meats and can spurt fire from a gland in its throat. Cold weather can make this dragon ill and prolong coldness could be fatal.
Dragons of the Seas and Various Waters: |
They are a variety of shades of blue, from silver-blue to dark blue-green. In fact, their shades cover all the hues of the water. Its skin is considered cold and moist. This dragon can create large amounts of water from its spit gland and spurt it out from their throat. Can spurt out the equivelent to a large lake before it must drink again to rehydrate. Dehydration can make it very ill and may even be fatal.
The Haven is for Dragons riders and Tamers alike who want to learn and reside in peace away from the scared and angry human race. They're here by choice and recommendation.
Docking area: A wooden dock built beside the Haven to hang over the mountain edge. Strong and study it allows for Dragons to perch upon it so Riders can mount their Dragons. The Docking area will have beginners saddles etc close at hand.
Dorms:
Hatchling Dorms- These dorms are specifically for the students who have either dragon eggs or recent hatchlings. Usually noisy and rather chaotic those without hatchlings etc would never find a wink of sleep. Those with dragon eggs are in this dorm also due to the fact that they are expecting a hatchling at any time and it would be more hassle and trouble to move them from one dorm to another once the dragon has hatched.
Regular Dorms- These dorms are specifically for those who have Dragons that no longer reside within Haven i.e they've outgrown the rooms!
Rooms- Most rooms should contain, a wooden bed, writing desk, side table, chest for clothes, a large window and a candle set. (Can add homely adjustments just keep in mind the setting)
Washroom: The washroom is practically shared between the residents, men and women enter through the same archway but there's a single stone wall that seperates the female side from the male. Shower's dont exist so if someone wants a bath they must collect a bucket from the washroom and hike on down to the hot springs a little further down the mountain to collect wash water. Or you could just wash in the hot springs on risk of getting seen.
Tutor rooms: These rooms will be decorated with various maps, diagrams etc relating to what you're being taught as well as a black board with chalk. They will also contain long wooden tables that will comfortably seat up to 6 students. Will probably contain a wooden bookcase with books and scrolls relating to what you're learning about.
Great hall: This is where everyone comes together to eat, with several long tables set up with benches beneath. Teachers and students alike will come here for their two main meals of the day- one in the morning, one in the evening. (Anything you eat between that time is to be found by you) There's a small kitchen with a three NPC man staff.
Technology wise the setting is stereotypical medieval, with horses being the main form of transportation, bows and arrows, swords and shields, BUT some of the more advanced countries have made some strides. Especially with dealing with the dragon threat: cannons, some of which shoot nets, mechanically propelled spears, maybe the extremely rich have gas lamps etc

Mountains and sky. I see nothing but Mountains and sky- the water is below- friends are to my side but they are jumping and only I am left standing. There in the creases and hollows of the mountain I see something and it calls to me…it calls to me.
‘Ava…’ calls a silken voice.
‘Ava…’
“Ava.” Came a grunt.
Ava let out a low moan and stretched in her cot causing her itchy covers to fall to the floor. Dragging open an eye previously stitched shut from sleep she took in a vague, blurred shape at the foot of her bed and blinked a few times.
Then she screamed.
“GET OUT OF MY ROOM! YOU BIG PERVERT!” she bellowed snatching the covers up off the floor to hide her nakedness whilst kicking out at the large armoured head of a Dragon aiming for the eye. There came a ripple like snarl as Hanza jutted his head away knocking over a chair as he did so.
“Not until you feed me” he grunted snorting out a gust of air laden with sand grains.
Ava clenched her teeth her eyes wide and doe like in surprise after having just woken up. With Hanza’s snort her covers flew up and Ava struggled to snatch them back down to hide herself once again. “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!” she crawled off her cot to stand and face him with a glare. “YOU DEGENERATE. If I foresaw you were going to be a sneak who watches me whilst I sleep naked I would have left you on the mountain!”
Hanza huffed and bared his jaws in a leer. “Don’t flatter yourself. I've been waiting for you to wake since sunrise. I have no interest in watching you. What could possibly attract me to a mere human. I’m a dragon I have no interest in your pale, fleshy orbs.”
Ava recoiled in disgust. “THAT’S IT!” Snatching up her boots from the corner she whacked the dragon on the snout beating him back. “Get out and stay out!”
Hanza snarled jerking his head out of her room to avoid the onslaught. “Just feed me!” he grunted.
“Feed yourself!” she barked before bringing the window shutters closed with a rather final sounding snap.
Thus morning began for the young Rider Ava Gallwey in Haven. A place of 'supposed peace' and certain safety for obliging Dragons and the few individuals who found they could connect with them whether it be through mind or through heart.

When Batoru's shadow was directly overhead, the pressure was bordering on painful. Vincent couldn't help but mile at the sight of Batoru. It was a thing of beauty. Batoru landed to the earsplitting crack of breaking stone and one final gust of wind. The wind whipped Vincent's hair around his face and sent dust and dirt flying. "Good morning Tovarishch. The usual spot I take it?" "Right you are Batoru. Same as always. How are the winds today?" Batoru lowered his giant body to the dirt so Vincent could climb up to the saddle where his shoulders met his wings. "They're not too strong. There's a slight southwestern wind, but nothing that could turn ugly today. Unless some Storm Dragon decides to cloud the skies." "Very well. Let's go." Batoru wasted no time in leaping skyward and circling towards their normal training area.
In around ten minutes they reached the forest where they trained daily. Batoru landed in a large clearing in a spray of leaves and dirt. Vincent nimbly leaped off of Batoru's back and began his normal training regimen. A long run through the various animal trails while leaping over obstacles, physical training with a cache of training weapons from his many other visits, and more meditation. Batoru tested his own skills by crushing boulders, performing offensive and defensive aerial maneuvers, hunting animals, and testing the properties of his flame and heat. Before they returned to their cave, Batoru ate a slain deer and digested some ashes from several burnt trees. "Let's go back my old friend." "Agreed.
The sun was just over the horizon when Vincent finished his morning bath. After donning his normal attire, armor, and grabbing his lance, Vincent leaped back up onto Batoru and together they flew off towards Haven. It was not long before they glimpsed the mountainous complex that was Haven. Would you like to give them a show? Yea. Let's. Batoru flew in from in front of the sun and let loose an triumphant roar. When they were over Haven, Batoru folded his wings and dove straight for the landing. At the last moment, he snapped his wings open and slowed almost instantaneously before landing. Some dirt that was blown around when Batoru landed got in his snout. As an unfortunate attendant hurried towards them (he was obviously new), Batoru sneezed. The short burst of flame caught the attendant's tabard and some of his hair on fire. He went screaming towards the nearest source of water to douse the fires. Vincent dismounted Batoru and rubbed him on the neck while waiting for his students. Was that really an accident, or was that on purpose? Does it matter? He learned his lesson. He was warned before he got the job, right? I suppose. Batoru chuckled. It sounded like a rockslide.

"Okay, Telar. When you feel that you need to whip me with your tail - Don't. Okay? Can you do that you great oaf of a Dra-" He was cut off by a quick, heavy whip to the face. Telar cocked his head a few times, and shook his head. As if he were to say "As if. You think you could train me to not hit you? It's because you don't ever try. Now, once more. From the top." And after this, he was pummeled by Telar's tail..
And Zain thought he would be able to get some rest on a Rock outside. He thought wrong, and within five minutes he was nudged by Telar. "Mmmrhgh? Telar? What is it?" Zain grumbled. Telar nudged Zain's head a few times, and then got poked in the stomach. Telar was trying to say "You forgot to get my food. Can we please go get something, Zain?"
"I see. Well, come on then. Let's not starve you any - Ugh! Stupid Sun!" Zain cried out, the sun shining in his eyes again. He had built up an immunity to the Sun's irritating rays. But he simply couldn't ignore it when his eyes were wide open. He decided to try and ignore it. With Telar beside him, they walked for a while - And to his surprise, he found a dead Cow. He didn't know where it came from - Nor who had killed it. "Go ahead, eat it." He said, poking Telar to make sure he was even there. Telar devoured the Cow, and stopped complaining about Hunger issues. He had a small stomach for a Dragon, and a Cow was enough to fill him.
Zain put a hand on Telar, and sort of cuddled into him. Zain loved his Telar. He was really the only thing that gave him hope. Even though he pummeled him a lot. Telar actually had a high degree of affection toward Zain. And when he nudged him with his head instead of almost stabbing him with a claw, that was his way of getting attention. It was "The nice way" according to Telar.

It certainly was a long way up. Although it didn’t show on his face, Martin was suddenly questioning whether his decision to make most of the journey by water had been wise. The mountain path was the conventional route for those who did not fly to Haven on dragonwing, but that would have involved travelling over large expanses of exposed grassplain, which Martin had special reason to avoid. Even so, it would have at least meant nothing worse than a steep claim ending in a gate, rather than a boat journey down a narrow gorge ending in a cliff.
The water nearby churned violently, until a large, pale, saurian head broke the surface. It turned to Martin, who looked back into it’s featureless blue eyes.
“I know, I said it was just across the lake.” Martin said expressionlessly. “And through a few valley gorges. And....at the top of this cliff-face.”
He knew that Chandni couldn't understand most of the words he spoke, but after years he'd found that the best way to communicate was to talk normally and in an animated way, and somehow the general gist got across. Plus he found that it was refreshing to have company to whom you could say almost anything and get away with it, as long as you used anything more than the most basic of words.
Chandni lifted her head and stared up the enormous rock face, letting out an airy grunt. Martin followed her gaze. The polarized goggles he wore protected his eyes from the sunlight which poured down. Two years of living in the coastal caves and tunnels had given him a hypersensitivity to light, and the goggle were state of the art technology gifted to him by a grateful erstwhile benefactor.
“Well the decent thing to do would be to let me hold onto your back while you climb?” He said, pointing at her shoulder.
Chandni looked at him, then stretched up and planted her forearms against the rock, pulling herself up and disturbing the water so that the boat floated away slightly.
“Yes you could leave me down here," Martin huffed, "but I think you'd rather I come. You’re not the prettiest of creatures, even among dragons, and you might need me to lay the ground for your emergence.”
Chandni twisted her head towards him and snorted indignantly. Martin raised an eyebrow. Perhaps she'd understood that better than I expected her to...
“Sorry, sorry, I suppose I just don't have such a good manner with females. Why do you think I've spent the last two years underground?” Martin said, looking across at her and chuckling, “Besides, I’ve yet to see the dragon who’s breath bears as much violence and threat as the tongue of a woman.”
Suddenly there was an earth-shaking roar, and for a brief moment the light in the gorge seemed to dim. Both Martin and Chandni looked up in time to see a huge dragon silhouetted against the sun, before plummeting back towards the land on top of the cliff. Chandni looked across at Martin, her eyes widening slightly. Martin held out his hands, with his palms out flat. He knew she had never encountered another dragon, and that arriving in Haven would be intimidating at first.
"It's alright," he said, "we'll be welcome here."
The dragon reluctantly lowered her head, allowing Martin to climb out of the boat and lay on her back, gripping the bases of her wings as she stretched out of the water, and began to scale the cliff face. Martin grunted at the motions, wondering to himself how long it took an actualy dragon rider to learn their art, because it definitely wasn't one of Martin's gifts.

A loud and rock smashing roar sounded through the air, causing Clarence to shoot up from her sleep and causing her to loose the image of the ocean underwater. She rubbed her eyes inwardly cursing at that dragon. This was the eighth dream she had that she couldn't remember, but left a feeling of something unknown.
She looked up at the Irish flag she had strategically placed over her bed and singing under her breath, The Rocky Road to Dublin. "One, two, three, four, five, Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!" She sang as she pulled on a pair of jeans on and a green t-shirt with a four-leaf clover in the middle. She pulled her shoes on quickly, forgetting to tie them, and ran out her door leaving a mess behind her.
Clarence tripped and stumbled through the halls, ignoring the sneers and insults after running into someone and even when she didn't she could hear snide comments, as she made her way towards the Great Hall. She didn't have to hurry, but in her eyes she needed to because if she ate fast enough she would have time to do some climbing. The other day she had found a small cliff ledge that had a small tree on it and a miniature waterfall flowing through, but after that she couldn't find it, so now every chance she got she would go climbing the cliffs to find it again.
She grabbed some toast and the strongest coffee they had, quickly eating it, in a way that made most of the other students disgusted, and taking off tripping over her shoelaces once again. As she approached the cliff wall she bent down and tied her shoes. Then she looked up at the sky, covering her eyes from the sun, but debating what time it was using the the sun's place in the sky. She figured she had about five minutes before she had to go to class, but then again she wasn't overly worried because finding that cliff ledge is far more important than a Combat class, especially since she hadn't found her dragon. Thinking of her dragon, or the other half of her soul, made her stop and just stare at the sky, that feeling of mystery was back, the same one that she had felt after her dreams lately. She knew that whatever her dreams were about were clues as to where she could find her dragon, but ever since Mr. Vincent's dragon started roaring in the morning, she could never remember what her dreams were. This pissed her off because she loved to analyze her dreams and see what the meanings meant, and she wanted to find her dragon and fly with the rest of the students. Yes she could use the teachers' dragons to practice, but it wasn't the same and she knew it.
Clarence sighed, jealous of the other riders who had already found their dragon. She shook her head before facing the cliff wall again. She began her climb, rubble falling off every time her hands grabbed a spot for pulling her up or her feet found a new, not entirely safer, foothold. Nothing felt more exhilarating than climbing a dangerous cliff with the wind whipping at your back. As she climbed though, deep in her subconscious was that nagging feeling of mystery and the unknown and even deeper, a roar of a dragon.

"Its time to get up Faolin..." Azuryu whispered into faolin's mind. the young boy simply just shrugged a little as Azuryu opened the wing he was sleeping under and grabbed him by a claw. setting him away from her body. Faolins eyes shot wide open as he was suddenly pulled from his sleeping place then looked to Azuryu as if to say something but was cut short by her own voice."Faolin its late for us and time to go get food. Besides since when do you sleep in this late. Faolin thought about it for a second then replied.
"why not sleep their arn't any predators here to catch us, the man on the back of the other dragon said that. Although now that you mention it i am hungry, shall we go hunting?" Azuryu stood up shaking herself slightly before lowering her head to allow Faolin to climb up, Faolin didnt need any instruction to climb up and quickly did so and without a word the two took to the sky. Faolin often admired how a dragon hunts because for most of them its a choice of how much effort do they want to put out because quite frankly they can have whatever they want if they put out the effort.
Today for example Azuryu was satisfied with a couple cows. as she settled down in a clearing to eat Faolin slid off and watched her like always waiting for her to tear him off a piece. Faolin could hunt, but it was allot more difficult for him to get enough food for the both of them so to prevent Faolin from hunting and wasting a ton of meat Azuryu gave him a piece from her cow and cooked it a little for him if anything just enough to kill the bacteria as the two finished their meal Faolin watched another dragon head over head back toward the school. for his first class of the day, combat. The two set down in the court yard as Faolin stared at the man on the ground next to the dragon he must have been the teacher. Faolin slid off Azuryu and sat next to her as he waited.

Mira! Mira winced at the bellow in her mind and wondered who had managed to anger her dragon this early in the day, whoever they were would soon regret it unless she could calm the situation. She wrinkled her brow as she had thought by now everyone knew to avoid Rathan unless she was around or he was extremely well fed although both together was most favourable. She strode quickly through the halls of Haven ignoring the glares and mutters as she passed. A few nodded to her in polite greeting as not all were openly hostile but most simply ignored her. As she reached one of the doors leading outside she heard someone yelp and sighed quietly to herself.
Do you think there is anyone in Haven you have not annoyed? She demanded as she approached the docking area where Rathan perched ready for their morning ride and feed. A young man was back-pedalling quickly as Rathan's claw lashed out missing him by a hands breath. The young man yelped and hurriedly put more distance between him and the angry red dragon. As he walked quickly past Mira he glared at her and muttered about crazy dragons though he kept his voice low clearly afraid of her as well as her dragon.
I doubt it Rathan's mind voice was dry and wholly amused. Come let us hunt or I may end up eating your classmates
It is thanks to those people that you are alive to be fed Mira reminded him. But I might let you eat one or two later.
Don't tempt me. He grumbled. Do you think you could go any slower I'm not getting any younger.
Mira rolled her eyes and leapt into the saddle, her movements agile from years of practice. She smiled as Rathan launched into the air with powerful beats of his wings, this was where she was truly free.

Batoru and Vincent moved several yards away from the young boy and his dragon, and tried to give themselves as much room as they could. Vincent signaled an attendant over to him. He gave the boy strict orders to warn the other attendants and assistants to stay away from himself and Batoru. The attendant nodded quickly before running away as fast as he could, warning everyone who was going to pass by Batoru and Vincent. Are you ready Vincent? Yes. Let's not waste any time. Very well. Batoru stood with his wings folded to his body; his tail flicked from side to side as he focused. Vincent walked a few feet away from Batoru's snout, lance in hand. It was as close as they could get to practical use in ground combat; air combat was something they did not want to experiment with at the temperatures they would work with at this moment.
"Go!" A noise came from Batoru that was similar to a landslide combined with a raging fire. If one looked closely at Batoru's chest, they would notice that the skin that was visible through the gaps in his chest plating was glowing brighter. The air around Batoru slowly began to shimmer in a heat wave. Batoru growled and the temperature rapidly increased. Sweat beaded on Vincent's brow, but it was nothing he could not handle. Yet. With a roar, Batoru increased the temperature around him to a level he had not reached before. If one was looking into the maw of Batoru, they would see a bright orange light in his throat. It was as if his very innards were ablaze. Sweat ran down Vincent's forehead and began to bead on his limbs. A jar nearby shattered as the moisture was leeched from it by the heat generated by Batoru. The unfortunate attendant from earlier ran past Batoru and staggered in the heat wave. After a few more steps, he fainted from the heat. Vincent felt his own head begin to swim a few minutes later. Batoru, enough. My consciousness is slipping. Very well. We can't have that now can we? Batoru let the heat wave dissipate. Vincent heaved a sigh of relief and wiped his brow. Very nice. You're improving. Batoru laughed again. Vincent leaned on his lance due to the fatigue brought on by the heat. He waved another attendant over.
"Get some help for that other boy, he passed out in the heat." The attendant ran off to fetch Haven's doctor and Vincent walked back to Batoru and grinned. "Good job my friend." Batoru snorted a small flame in pride. I'd like to think so. At least we know that it's hot enough to cause a human to faint. His tail swung back and forth while Vincent waited for his students.

Sleep well? Ryx's soft, flitting presence entered Mae's mind. It was like having a fluffy, hummingbird in one's head, if there was such a thing.
Indubitably, she replied, grinning. It was easy to sleep this way. Ryx had a smooth, rhythmic beat to her wings, and her body was naturally warm and moist: a comfort in the cold, dry altitude at which they flew.
Ryx had begun to rise up into the air again. Ready? she asked. Mae snorted. Of course! In an instant, Ryx fluidly rolled in the air, her belly facing the clouds. Mae deftly undid the hooks securing her. She stood on her dragon's scales, just a tad uneasily. They had been doing this for a while... but Ryx's scales were always a bit slippery. If she fell, she wouldn't be able to take the blow to her pride. No doubt, Ryx would tease her. Mae, ran across her dragon's body, heading to her head. Ryx was watching her advance, a smirk on her face. How she had managed to convey that smug look, Mae would never know.
She clambered on to Ryx's head, grabbing onto the two, long horns. Ryx turned over once again, beginning to beat her wings once more. They had been gliding, Ryx unable to move her wings correctly on her back. Mae was already seated on her neck, settled between the ridges.
Can I speed up now? We're going so slow! I feel like a tortoise, Ryx grumbled.
Yeah, you look like one too, Mae thought back, jokingly poking the dragon's scales. I think you might be growing a shell... Ryx snorted loudly, before kicking up her speed. Mae had to hug her neck tightly to minimize the wind resistance. Sometimes after a day of flying, Mae would come down with a windburned face; something Ryx often laughed at.
...When do you think we'll reach Haven? Mae asked suddenly. Ryx cocked her head slightly.
I don't know... I wonder what it's like! Are the rumors true? Large buildings and dragon roosts carved and built out of a mountain? Mists curling around the cliff-face where it stands in the early morning... And the other dragons, Mae! What do they look like? Ryx's voice had taken on a childlike tone of awe and curiosity.
I suppose we'll see when we get there, Mae answered softly. She too was full of anticipation and excitement. All the tales she had heard about the fabled "Haven". Where all Riders, Tamers, and even Slayers took refuge. A place where you didn't have to worry about the difficulties of raising and living with your dragon... a place where you could learn. That's why Mae wanted to go there. She wanted to be one of the greats. She wanted to be famous. She wanted to be remembered. Who doesn't want to feel special?
Hey, Ryx. Let's drop down a bit. There's a lot of cloud cover here... we want to see where the heck we're going, don't we! Mae urged. Ryx descended.
Again, they could see the pine forest that stretched out forever beneath them. Mae sighed. They had been over these trees for nearly two days. These were the thick woods of the north. A place that was always changing... Cold and snowy in the winter, warm in the spring, verging on hot in the summer, and a pleasant cool in autumn. Haven supposedly laid to the east. Well, Mae had deduced as such, since people said you could see the sun rise on the ocean.
We've still got a ways to go, then. Mae sighed aloud.
How about some breakfast? I think we need a good rest anyway, Ryx suggested. Sure. I'd like to stretch... maybe bag a rabbit if I see one, Mae agreed. Ryx descended and landed on a huge pine. She easily snaked down to the ground, her lithe body breaking only small branches. Mae jumped from Ryx's neck to the soft, needled ground.
"Right. We'll meet back here okay?" Ryx nodded her large golden head, before taking off again. She would go grab a stag or something for herself. Heck, she might even grab a moose. She did need the calorie load, after all. Mae jogged away from Ryx's landing spot, before slowing into a hunter's tread. She had slid her bow from where it rested on her back and nocked an arrow. Time for food.

Now that Rathan had eaten they were returning to Haven as Mira did not want Rathan to overdo himself and she knew that he did not always take care of himself as he should. He seemed to feel that because he was taller but more slender than the other male dragons that he was weaker and somehow not as male, though he never admitted this to anyone. He would fly further and for longer simply to prove himself his equal even though he already was their equal in every way. Mira sighed and patted his side gently shaking her head at her proud and somewhat egotistical dragon. As they approached Haven Mira could feel a familiar tension begin to form in her shoulders and deliberately ignored it. She had decided that today she would watch the riders lesson in full view of everyone, it was her way of rebelling against the dislike of the other's that lived in Haven. She lived here and it was her right to go anywhere she pleased and do whatever she pleased and everyone else be damned.
Do we really have to go back so soon? Rathan grumbled.
Yes Mira said firmly we do, you need to rest, that last trip was tough on both of us
I'm fine, it was you who almost fell off me on the way home but then you are only a weak human Rathan's mind voice was definitely goading and Mira slapped him on the flank.
If you continue like that I might forget about that nice juicy steak I picked up for you
Did I say weak? I meant amazingly strong! Rathan replied impishly
You could at least sound like you mean it It was Mira's turn to grumble and she bristled even more at Rathan's laughter in her head.
They circled around the buildings and headed for the training ground where Mira could see that the students had not as yet arrived and only Vincent and Batoru were present. As they circled Rathan roared blasting out a gout of flame as he did so and Mira sighed quietly to herself at his showing off to Batoru who was a Red dragon like himself. Then he tucked his wings close to his body and went into a dive and Mira held on tight though she was grinning with exhilaration and did not care what she must have looked like with her hair streaming behind and her face flushed from the wind. Well before they reached the ground Rathan pulled up and straightened out and landed neatly not far from the teacher and his dragon. Mira stayed where she was seated and nodded down to Vincent.
"Morning." She said calmly not expecting an overly friendly response. "I thought I would watch your lesson with the students this morning."
Watching clumsy people and their clumsy dragons Rathan said sourly What fun
Mira ignored him and waited for the teachers response, he could not really refuse her being here but Mira was nothing if not polite and it was only polite to ask.

The morning light, pale and shimmering, but still so fully over the mountains that its light immersed everything. Every color was waking, turning from the dark blue of the night to its original coloring. She could see people, students mainly, scurrying around, either running to get their breakfast or to go to class. Clarence's heart slightly sunk as she noticed some of them rushing and stressing to follow rules. If they would only see how much better life could be if you went with what you felt was right and what you wanted to do. Plus you learned from your mistakes faster. Dragons lumbered around on the ground with their riders, or slayers, or flew so freely through the air.
Clarence always liked to be in spots where she could observe see everything, and though most would think that these spots were in the air or in high spots, they were wrong, most were actually on the ground. On a small hill in a valley of grass, or even in a boat in the biggest of oceans.
Her heart lifted again to the point where it usually soared when she saw a smaller red dragon roared and blasted a large flame, to what Clarence thought to be showing off to Mr. Vincent's dragon, Batoru. This was one of the things that she loved about dragons, is that they have personalities just like humans, though most would insist they don't.
She heard birds twittering above her head, the chatter of students finding their friends, and the wind howling past her. She smiled wider and closed her eyes letting the warmth be absorbed by her skin. Then she remembered her spot and swung back so that she was facing the cliff face again and began to climb. She felt that she was close this time, how close though was a mystery.
She wasn't overly high yet, just about 25 feet, when she heard an angry voice. Though it didn't feel like other noises, more like it was coming from inside her head.
'You dirty little fiend! How dare you steal from me!!' it yelled. Clarence was so shocked by this she lost her footing and grip and fell back to the ground. She landed on her feet, quickly falling on her butt. She was dazed, not by the fall as she has fallen many times, but by the voice. It felt somehow familiar, yet a complete mystery. This voice that had suddenly erupted in her head with such anger and frustration, was a genuine anomaly. Her head was so wrapped in confusion about the sudden voice that she didn't even notice that her leg had twisted and a large gash ran down it, until she looked down.
"Bloody hell," she whispered to herself she stood up, using the help of the cliff and some branches from bushes that were around her. When she stood up, it seemed as though no one noticed her fall, a couple stared but only for a second, before going along their marry way. 'So much for peoples' kind hearts,' she thought sourly, as she brushed off her pants.

When she marched into the kitchens, a few looked up in surprise, but then returned to their work. Most of the crowd had cleared, and Cora knew she was more likely to get warm food from the kitchens themselves than the dining hall. The girl had been gone for the past few days, dealing with an earth dragon far to the south. When she in had finally come home, she had slept for almost two days – one in the stables with Dasnor and the other in her own bed after someone had found her – she honestly couldn’t even remember who.
But lack of food made her grumpy and those in her way quickly scurried out of it as she made her way towards a cook’s table. As she sat, a bowl of porridge was placed in front of her, followed by a heel of black bread. Her eyes, with eyebrows knit, looked up to see the face of the head cook.
“Mistress Cora, you be scaring my help. Wipe that snarl off your face before they run away thinking you might spit lightning at them!”
Cora forced herself to take a deep breath and do as the cook commanded. “Thanks, Marian. You know how I can get.”
The cook sniffed and turned away without a proper reply. That, of course, made Cora smile. She had heard that the cook could be as scary as a dragon, but the woman had never been anything but gently stern. The girl took her time with her food, letting her mind settle as her stomach did. Of course, an empty stomach wasn’t the only thing that had bothered her. When she had headed south, she had expected an earth dragon killing humans and making a general fuss. What she found was a half-blind, eldery female unable to fly anymore and resorting to hunting what could not outrun her – namely, caged live-stock.
She would have been good for the tamers, she was a gently though cowardly soul. But there was no way to transfer her, so Cora had done the next best thing.
When she was finished, she pushed the bowl away from her and sighed loudly. When she stood, people moved away from her, but out of respect more than fear. Those that worked in the kitchen or as maids were generally those offspring of past Riders, with a complete soul of their own. They stayed of their own choice for a love of dragons, but they didn’t have the connection even Tamers had. They tended not to hate Slayers as much as the half-souls.
She made her way through Haven towards the stables were Dashnor waited. He had needed to recover as well, so instead of hunting the staff had brought him a pig. The last of the bloody straw was being cleared out of his stall when she arrived. He himself waited outside, watching Ferroan and his big red Batoru. As she watched him watch the other two, a familiar shape swooped from the side. Cora grinned when she saw Mira and Rathan. Cora liked Mira more than others but less than some. They spent time together for jobs and occasionally for practice, but Cora wouldn’t consider the girl a close friend. She was to stiff and certainly didn’t enjoy life enough. But they were each others armor. Where no one else truly accepted them, they knew that they would always have someone to go through.
At least, that’s how Cora saw it.

He walked quietly up toward the Haven. Zain kept an eye out for other people. He spotted a girl dusting herself off. "Hmph.. I bet she fell off the cliff. Oh vhell!" Zain laughed, saying the end part with a german accent. He decided to check if she was okay.
He ran as fast as his legs could carry him, and eventually he was infront of the Female. "Miss? Did you fall from there? I mean.. Are you alright?" He said irritably. He struggled to talk to anything other than Telar. So he stammered or corrected himself a lot.

"Yeah, I fell," she shrugged and laughed her usual care-free, bubbly stream laugh, "And I'm fine...well except for my leg, but nothing that hasn't happened before". A slight breeze blew her red hair in her face, causing her to tuck it behind her ear. She looked around at the others who passed by without a glance and then back at this boy who actually took the time to see if she was okay.
"Thanks for asking," she said, pulling a stick that was jammed up her sleeve, "You're the first". She was about to hobble off when a sudden thought struck her, stopping her in her tracks. She turned around looking at both the boy and his dragon. "By the way did either of you here a voice, it was deep and kind of...distorted as if it were coming from underwater, and it was angry at...someone?" she asked.

"A voice, you say? I do remember something loud. It sounded angry too. Maybe a dragon roaring.. Or someone with a bad voice and anger issues." He said, laughing. "You know, it's not safe to climb that high. But enough of that. So, are you a rider? A trainer?...." Zain's voice dropped to a growl. "Or a feculent maggot that we call Slayers?!"
Telar looked around, and rested his chin on Zain's head. Followed by letting a small spark out onto his hair. It didnt catch fire. It just made his hair stick up on all ends and he jumped about two feet in the air. "Bloody beast, you are. But i do take care of you, don't i?" Zain muttered. Telar nodded twice, then poked Clarence to check for a reaction.

"I'm a rider," she said shrugging her shoulders, "just haven't found my dragon yet. And I'm glad you heard something too, for a minute I thought for sure people were right and that I was going crazy." She smiled again, taking her hand off the dragon's head, she shifted again, her uninjured leg getting tired. "I'm Clarence O'Grady by the way," she said holding her hand out to shake with the boy.
She got suddenly quiet, 'Come here little one, don't be afraid. I don't bite,' she heard the voice again, just as watery and distorted, but this time gentle and hypnotic. She looked at the boy, brown eyes widening, she spun around in a circle looking at the sky whispering to herself, "There it is, again, just now, did you hear it?"

"Pleased to meet you, Clarence. My name is Zain Arthuras. But you can just call me Zain." He said cheerfully. Shaking her hand. He noticed that her and Telar had taken a liking to eachother.
He heard the noise again, but before he mentioned it, Clarence did. "Bloody hell. That's not right. I bet it's a Rider or a Slayer." Zain muttered. His english accent was showing now.

Turning her face back to Zain she smiled, "I don't really want to fall at that height again," she made an over dramatic grimace, "Kind of scary, especially when the ground is rock. Who's your dragon?" she pointed to Zain's dragon, smiling at how ironic he was, scary and threatening on the outside, but seeming to be kind on the inside. She loved anomalies, it confused so many people and the irony was to die for. Her brown eyes glittered in the sun, it's rays hitting at an angle making them seem to be more yellow than brown which overall made her face look even sunnier and her seem more child spirited.

"Oh, Him? That's Telar. You see, i'm not a Rider. I'm a trainer. So i taught him how to understand english. We usually talk for hours. Though he uses sign language. He likes to annoy me. As you can probably guess." This was followed by a fervent nod from Telar.

"So it looks as though we have some more time before class, or at least you do, I don't think I'll be going today. Want to help me look for that ledge?" She asked, anxious to get looking again. The last time she was there she felt the bond between her and her dragon was stronger, and before she left it she was beginning to finally figure out where he, at least guessing it was he, was, but the moment she hit the ground when she left that bond and all her implications of where her dragon was, was gone and that annoying feeling of mystery was back.
She moved her gaze back to Zain, her eyes in puppy dog form and her lower lip protruding a bit, trying to persuade him for help her with just her eyes. 'A feat not yet ensued,' she thought.

Jack stiffly lifted his exhausted body into a sitting position and shook his head slightly clearing the blurriness from his vision "Is it?" Jack groaned sleepily. Yawning he took in their position, a thick layer of misty cloud hung below them sparse precipices surged through the clouds as though they were islands rising from the water.
Banking gently Omunoth began to descend, as she did Jack shifted his position forward in the saddle " It will be good to be home" mused Omunoth "yes" replied Jack " a bed that doesn't breath or have rocks that dig into your back while your sleeping." Omunoth's rumbling laughter made the scales vibrate on her neck. "Thank you for taking me to meet your family, I've never seen such a large group of dragons all living together peacefully" said Jack, changing subjects as they descended into the cloud bank.Together they slid through the clouds descending gradually through the dense dew filled air. " As you know My species is more evolved than our lower altitude cousins so we don't fight as much, if at all" Said Omunoth proudly, Jack nodding in agreement. As the sky was swallowed up, Omunoth began weaving her way through a stand of tall thin rock spires and precipices that loomed up through the mist like silent warriors returning from battle. The mist began to thin and as they left the silent spires behind Omunoth made a sharp bank left through the pass to the haven and then thirty seconds later she banked hard right, and, as the mist broke from around them the Haven came into view, with what appeared to be a few new recruits milling about on the large open practice area. Omunoth headed straight for the large training platform to land.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," she said quickly trying to keep up, "You have no idea what this means to me. So Telar can talk in sign language? That is so cool," she rambled on, looking to Zain's left where Telar was walking. After Zain mentioned them being bonded enough she wanted to see if she could pick it out. To her the way the dragon acted around him, they seemed pretty bonded to her too.
"Why do they call Tamers...well Tamers?" she wondered aloud, "I mean if you ask most will say they're taming to get a bond with a dragon, but when bonded that doesn't necessarily mean you've 'tamed' a dragon, it just means you've made a twin-like connection with another creature. So you shouldn't be called Tamers because you aren't, you should be called Bonders because that's what you do, you create a bond from nothing with patience and lots of dead-end tries". She looked up from the ground only to see a shocked expression on Zain's face, she then realized that she'd been talking her thoughts out-loud, she blushed a deep rosy red, "Sorry, I sometimes think out loud; just not used to being around anyone and my thoughts can always fill the silence. But since you're here, what do you think about being called a Bonder?"

The crunch of dirt and twigs underneath his boots was irritating him. If there was one thing he hated more than slayers, it was Dirt. And the noise of squelching mud. Eugh. He thought.
"Bonder, eh? Sounds cool. But not as cool as Tamer." Zain muttered. He wished he was a rider so he could ride Telar.

Which is frankly why I only join 1x1 RPs nowadays. At least then you always know where you stand; either the other person is posting or their not, and if you're having a good engagement with one other player then it can't be ruined by a couple of other people who can't be arsed.

Please post guys! I'm really enjoying this rp and I want it to continue.

I'm still working on the history section and my intro post but I really like this rp and I want them to be perfect :D.
I will try to get them done today but I'm not promising anything.

Re: [OOC] Dragon Country
As for the Slayers, they don't have to take the riding lessons. Its assumed they know everything that can be taught and just need to refine themselves through practice. They can, however, attend anyways to practice, go over old lessons, or perhaps help the teachers as aides.
And I totally made that up right now, using my Co-GM powers.
And I lied about posting yesterday. I got kidnapped for a drinking party. It was the first time I drank and needless to say, I couldn't post.
I'll work on my post if my boss stops walking behind me >>
