5'2, or something around that.

{☛ ⓌⒺⒾⒼⒽⓉ ☚}
It's rather rude to ask a lady her weight.

{☛ ⒽⒶⒾⓇ ⒸⓄⓁⓄⓇ ☚}
Her hair is the same color as the vibrant sea, a lush blue that sways like the waves.

{☛ ⒺⓎⒺ ⒸⓄⓁⓄⓇ ☚}
Her eye are the same odd shade, luminously reflecting the world around her.

{☛ ⒷⓄⒹⓎ ⓂⒶⓇⓀⒾⓃⒼⓈ ☚}
Her ears are pierced with shells that reflect the colors of the sky. Her most prominent scars are on her wrists and ankles are faint scars from the ropes that once bound her. There is also a black tattoo around her throat that stands out on her pearl complexion.

{☛ ⒼⒺⓃⒺⓇⒶⓁ ⒶⓅⓅⒺⒶⓇⒶⓃⒸⒺ☚ }
Her appearance, as most would say, is unassuming at best. As she's not very tall and doesn't weigh all that much, most would think her to be an angel. Reyna is blessed in the chest area though. They do not see the devilish glint in her eyes or the way her fingers itch for the sword. They do not know where Reyna had previously come from, nor do they care. Her skin is the color of ivory, much like a doll, with large, doe like eyes that twinkle charmingly and blue waves for hair that sway with every step. It was almost as though Reyna has been designed to look innocent and cute, so that others might not be so unsuspecting. Her hands, while delicate and feminine, have callouses on the inside as well as scars from years of practice and training. Her smile, while sweet, holds much darkness and guilt. With Reyna, there is much, much more than meets the eye. While in the water, her tail is an ominous shade of red so dark it is nearly black.

I'm sorry for everything
Oh, everything I've done

Am I out of touch?
Am I out of my place?
When I keep saying that I'm looking for an empty space
Oh, I'm wishing you're here
But I'm wishing you're gone
I can't have you and I'm only gonna do you wrong

Oh, I'm going to mess this up
Oh, this is just my luck
Over and over and over again

I'm sorry for everything
Oh, everything I've done
From the second that I was born it seems I had a loaded gun
And then I shot, shot, shot a hole through everything I loved
Oh, I shot, shot, shot a hole through every single thing that I loved

Am I out of luck?
Am I waiting to break?
When I keep saying that I'm looking for a way to escape
Oh, I'm wishing I had what I'd taken for granted
I can't help you when I'm only gonna do you wrong

Oh, I'm going to mess this up
Oh, this is just my luck
Over and over and over again

I'm sorry for everything

Reyna cannot recall her family, although she grew up knowing that they loved her very much. When Reyna was five years old, her parents were killed in a terrible accident and she and her four older brothers were taken in by their aunt and uncle, two very kind people with very different opinions on how to raise a little girl. In the end it mattered not as they too, died. With no one to care for them, she and her brothers were whisked off to the orphanage, a place they thought where if they acted cute enough, they could finally get adopted. Reyna had hardly been there for two days when they began to separate the family. A women in a black pant suit had taken her into a fancy Ford car and she never saw her brothers again.
Upon her arrival, her curls were shaved. What little possessions she had were burned and her pretty patent leather shoes and clean pink dress were thrown in the trash. They strapped her to a table and shocked her again and again, attempting to create a blank slate.
Reyna was one of many little girls that were taken from orphanages across America. They were trained and beaten, values instilled into them, whispers following them wherever they went. Tools of the American government, once they were proved able, they were shipped to countries across the world. Integrity, honor, secrecy; be an unknowing angel that struck when the moment was ripe.
Blood, there was so much blood that Reyna was nearly drowning in it. She was up to her elbows, unable to get away. So when the moment was right, she disappeared. Perhaps these girls had been trained too well.
Injured and on the run, it was at a port where Reyna met a peculiarity named Corona, who forced her on board of a ship. From there her memory is foggy, perhaps it was all the salt water she swallowed but as far as she is concerned, her life began the day her tail formed.

Mama was going out and coming home later and later every day. It was odd because it wasn't like she had a job, women didn't really have careers, earning money for the house was the man's job, and even if Henry was, regrettably, incompetent at keeping his money in his pockets, it was still his duty, and not Alice's. Her excuse was, as always, that she was going and meeting with her friends. But Corona was not an idiot, even as a young lady, she knew that Mama wasn't really being truthful. She wouldn't look so tired, so sad, she wouldn't cry when she thinks no one can hear. If she only went out with her friends, it would just be Mama coming home looking happy and excited with memories to make! Not like Corona, who had to stay home and didn't have friends, her only playmate was Cormag, really, because they couldn't send her to school.

So Corona did what any normal person would do. She confided her findings to her reliable big brother! Yes, Papa was a fool, he wasn't going to be able to take care of them, Corona knew better than to believe his constant insisting that they would be okay, that he would change and be better. Because every time it was a lie and he went back to gambling, to drinking, and not to being a good Papa. "Big brother!" Corona ambushed him one day when he returned from the boy's academy for learning. "You must listen, you must! I have an idea for something we can do!" If they wanted to help Mama from crying, the best way to do so would be to find out what was wrong.

"We'll follow her when she leaves tonight, Corona." Cormag said, feeding her a loaf of bread he bought on the way home. It was nice and steamed and it tasted truly scrumptious and it still felt warm and fluffy inside of her when they went to tail Mama and find her secret. It was like an adventure, and Corona rarely really got the chance to leave home, especially this late at night. "It's dangerous, sister, so do not let go of my hand." Big brother Cormag's back was so big and strong looking, Corona knew she could count on him to always protect her. "This is a fun adventure just for us!"

Things weren't fun for long, though, not when they reached a part of town that could only be described as scary to a young girl's innocent mind. Yet they pressed on, for the sake of trying to fix their broken family to make it whole and good again. Well, that optimism lasted until they finally found out where Mama was, she was working at a strange place called a "brothel." Cormag froze instantly when he read it, but Corona didn't know what the word her brother whispered was, and she didn't know how to read. "What's that? What is it, big brother, what's happening?" Cormag hugged her close then. "We need to talk to father." He said in a quiet, almost crying voice. "Let's go home now before anyone sees us, it's dangerous here." That was the moment Corona's fate was decided, right then and there. If only this innocent adventure didn't have such grave consequences later on, then maybe Corona still could have been an innocent, happy girl.

Reyna let Shannon take the bag as her tail reformed into two legs. "Thank you for all of your help Hazuki," Reyna wrung out her blue hair and stood, stretching. "You're welcome, I was probably the only one that knew which wires to get." That much was true, the boat had used a very complex system of multicolored wires that all had different functions. Hopefully the wire they had collected would be enough, it was about ten yards of the stuff after all. "Where's Corona? I thought she'd be waiting for us," Reyna said as she shook out her dress which had become covered in sand. "Hey, what's the point of clothes?" Nami snatched Reyna's dress from her and sidled up uncomfortably close, taking Reyna's chest in her hands.

"Especially when you've got nice ones like these! Ooh, they're so soft and round!" Reyna nearly jumped from her skin, turning and giving Nami a nice karate chop in the head. "Ow! Ow! Ow! Alright, alright, I wont do it again." Reyna took her dress back and pulled it on quickly. "Do it again and I won't go easy on you," she huffed, showing some emotion for once. "That was going easy?" Nami asked incredulously and Reyna took a step forward, causing Nami to squeak and jump back. Good, Reyna was glad that Nami was afraid of her, fear would keep Nami from touching her like that ever again. Almost instantly Nami set her sights on Hazuki and Reyna stepped in between them to make sure that Nami didn't harass the poor little mermaid. No one need to scare off the newbie and have her swim in the inlet for a few days until they could capture her.

Sometimes when girls arrived, they were still in shock from thinking that they had died. Occasionally, they thought they were dead and that this was just a dream or the entrance to the afterlife and would follow along peacefully until they had finally accepted what had happened and went mad. Reyna had been bitten once while treating one such mermaid that hadn't believed she was dead but was in a coma of sorts so there was no telling how much help to do now.

They wouldn't let Corona actually be the one to do the work, of course, even after she woke up. While they would let her move around - and by move around, Shannon, who had been shot, but took less damage and healed faster than Corona had - was forced to wheel her around on a little stool with wheels. It wasn't anything fancy like a wheelchair, but it did take the burden off of Corona. It did however mean that she and Shannon were always at odds with one another, but weren't they always fighting about something or other? Corona yelling at Shannon for pushing too slowly, Shannon berating her for always being an insufferable arrogant pain that didn't know how to be quiet. It would take a genius to wonder if they hated each other or if they got along great.

Whatever the case, at the Wind Turbines, instead of being allowed to actually set up the power grid, Corona was put on supervising duty while the other girls handled it the actual work. Sure, fine, in a way it was nice, but in another way, it made her angry, it was almost as if they were looking down on her. After Corona, all by herself, managed to make a forge, a bloomery, a smelter, weapons, bullets, water filters, moonshine still, alcohol distillery, and only now they decided to try and help out? But over the next few days, Corona was forced to instruct, telling them where to put the wires, and then to put clay plating around the outside of them in order to protect them from nature. It took a week, but it felt like much longer, to an almost painful degree.

On the beach, there was a house, and after inputting all the fluorescent lights in place, it was time for the ultimate test. "R-remember, you idiots, I'm just one head, so if there's any mistakes, it's your fault for not studying more on this stuff!" Corona snapped, embarrassed at all of this fuss. She was almost healed, maybe another day or so until the bandages could come off. "I'll do it! I'll do the honors, let me, let me!" Nami was almost bouncing, giggling like a schoolgirl the whole time. And so with bated breath, she flicked the light switch and... the light above them turned on, glowing a dim, yet stable light. And then Nami squealed in joy, hugging Corona and pressing her boobs right up in Corona's face. "I'll mix drinks for everyone!" She proclaimed as the alcohol mixer expert, the bartender of the family. "It'll be a super celebration of the next step forward!"

Corona might be good at lying, but the blush of relief and happiness on her cheeks most certainly wasn't the best liar at all.

Over the next week, Reyna and Hazuki continued to dive down to the ships and strip the wires from inside. Hazuki was a great help, being able to tell which wires they would need and which ones were useless. Reyna had never studied technology, sure by World War 2 they had gas stoves and indoor lighting, but the only electronics she had ever dealt in were decoding Morse Code and getting into the lines to listen to private messages. This was completely different, especially since the wiring on these ships was much more advanced than the World War 2 electronics Reyna had dealt in. "I think we should take a break, we've been down here a while, it's starting to get cold." Reyna swam back up with Hazuki, Reyna had to change Corona's bandages anyways to prevent infection. Once that was done, she began to cook dinner, hoping that the wind turbine would be done sometime soon as stripping wires was tedious work.

Nami ran inside, Shannon pushed Corona, it seemed that the time had finally come to shine a little light on this subject. "Ooh, I can't wait, I've only ever seen Edison bulbs in action." Reyna said, slightly enthralled along with everyone else. She jumped when the light turned on, surprised by the brightness in the room. It was so much better than what the candles could provide, there was now a whole window of opportunity! "Corona, it's incredible!" Reyna praised, carefully hugging her friend from behind. "Now why don't we see about changing those bandages?" She helped Corona out of the old ones, which were blood stained and brown. The new bandages were soft and clean, recycled cotton that they had respun. The girls had recently learned to sew and spin wool from the sheep they now had living with the chickens. They even had two cows from a recent raid of livestock.

No longer did they live on coconut milk, but fresh milk and real cheese were readily available so to celebrate their victory, Reyna made an Alfredo with fresh noodles. Everyone was celebrating their victory, including Nami who decided that she would take over the position of bartending. Mixed drinks were handed out, even to the girls who didn't think they were allowed to drink due to their age. Once things settled down and Reyna was thoroughly buzzed, she decided to ask the question that had been weighing in on her mind. "Did you know that it's 2011? How old does that make us?" She hiccuped, her cheeks pink and her words slightly slurred. Shannon was just about the only one who didn't join in the celebration as she was with Mother who was taking a walk on the beach to look at the stars.

The lights were on, the big new step in the technological growth of their little civilization had come, and they succeeded, overcoming this hurdle as a family, everyone had pitched in to help wherever they could. It was truly fantastic, the fruit of all their labors over the past week in getting everything set up. All the mermaids were excited about it, especially those who had never really seen electronic lighting before, like Shannon and Mother and those around their time. Reyna came to hug her while Nami prepared fruit extracts to mix with alcohol as a celebration gift for everyone since she didn't really do all that much work at all. "I'm not amazing, this was everyone's work." Corona said with more sincerity than she expected when Rey congratulated her. A part of her wanted to take credit since this was her brainchild, but ti wouldn't have been possible, not wounded as she was, to do it all on her own.

Corona just wanted to be lazy, to just not do any hard work ever again. Yet with all of her machinations, the little fledgling engineer had a feeling that she was never really going to get to rest, she was always going to be forced to come up with more ideas to try and keep up with the humans so that they didn't fall so far behind technology-wise that they could no longer win fights. Already her mind was spinning together the new project, one that just might be more difficult. "Once I find out how to make actual medicine, then we can consider it a milestone." Yes, sure, they had herbal medicines, but actual pill meds, their only stash of that came from raided ships. But how were they going to create synthetic medicines? This was going to need more thinking.

Okay, to be fair, the next real project was going to be basic electronic appliances. One such thing would be a way to keep all their harvested food fresh so that it wouldn't spoil if left for too long. An ice box, or something like it, powered by electricity in some way... this was going to need more thought, and that was when Reyna distracted her with a completely different line of thinking. "Let's talk somewhere more private." If this secret was let out, it might just cause a panic. So Corona pointed the way for Reyna to wheel her and they went away from the celebration party, outside in the brisk night air. "Shannon has been keeping count of the years since she washed up on the island... all the way back in 1776." Corona said in a quiet, grim voice. "We're both... very, very old now, Rey." The time passing, it was very easy to lose track of it. "I want to question mother about this eventually, so can we keep this a secret from the other girls for now, Rey?"

With their new found electricity, a world of opportunities had opened up. The girls were staying up later, they were able to write and read late into the night. They could dance underneath lights that twinkled like stars, or get together to speak in the living room, no longer relying on candles to light up their world. Since they were on the sea, there was plenty of wind for the turbine to gain enough energy for their home. This, of course, was not their only advancement. In the coming year, Corona figured out how to salvage an industrial refrigerator from inside one of the ships. they dragged it in with ropes made of seaweed that had been reinforced with bits of dead anemone. As Reyna was one of the only girls with a strangely high endurance, she headed this mission in tugging up the fridge and placing it inside of the kitchen. Corona of course was the one to hook it up to their home energy system.

"Another advancement, thanks to our house genius," they toasted to fresh, cold drinks that night in Corona's honor. Even if Corona insisted that it wasn't she who deserved praise, they all raised her up on high and drank Nami's drinks. "They've been partying all night for you," Reyna smiled, her drink had hardly been touched. The next experiment was an attempt at medicine that Reyna volunteered to try, explaining that she was the least valuable and so it would be fine if she was the one to get sick. It had made Reyna violently ill to the point where she hadn't been able to leave her bed for a week. After that, they decided to use a chicken to test the next few batches. Not the same chicken of course because the stress would be enough to kill them. Only one of their chickens perished in the experiment and was replaced by a raid on a boat carrying livestock.

The winter months were starting to come in, the water became cool and yet the island was the same as ever. Four cows, six sheep, two goats, ten chickens, and a rooster. The animals too, did not perish and remained their exact age. They had free reign of the beach, allowed to peck and eat whatever they pleased. They collected their waste and added it to the bunch that was being put out and dried for Corona's use. They stayed away from that part of the island as the smell was enough to make anyone sick. "Dinner time!" Reyna banged on a pan, Shannon appeared from around the corner. "Shh, I have a headache," she grabbed a chair and sat down. "Mother isn't coming, she's not feeling all that well," Reyna nodded. "Alright, I'll bring her some food then. When Corona comes, tell her the last chicken finally recovered." They were starting to get eggs again, something the sick chickens hadn't produced in nearly a week.

Reyna filled a plate and grabbed some silverware, heading down the hall. Up the stairs, down another hall, back down and to the trapped door. She knocked once but didn't hear an answer. "Mother?" Reyna asked with a frown. She opened up the trap door and covered the tray, splashing down into the cold. "Mother?" Her tail formed, the room was empty. Reyna placed the tray down, an unsettled feeling resting in the pit of her stomach. Something was off, something was very, very wrong. "Mother?" She glanced around, finally spotting what she was looking for. There was a hole in the wall, a few scales and some blood.

Mother was gone.

❝Don't worry, as long as we don't hope for anything, nothing can ever hurt us.❞

Corona had passed out last night trying to figure out a new blueprint of hers. This one was meant to be very instrumental to their survival as a family, and she was going to work hard on it again once she woke up. This next blueprint was, of course, a sort of electronic sensor that would alert them all to when a ship passed through it, so that whenever there were enemies or a chance to raid close to the island, everyone would be awake to snap to action as quickly as possible. Of course something like this was going to take a long time to figure out - but, well, Corona figured she had time. As long as they fought off the next wave of ships for this full moon, they would be okay to slowly set up the electronic sensors to keep everyone safe.

Well, when the engineer woke up, she very much cursed her laziness. It was six months ago that she first proposed this idea to Mother - and many times instead of working on finishing it as fast as possible, Corona was lazy and complacent, she just wanted to relax and not have to spin her brain all the time. Was it so bad? Not really - but now it seemed there were serious consequences. Was it a mistake to have two projects going at once, both the medicine as well as the sensors? But in a way, weren't both of those inventions necessary if they wanted to advance? "Since I was the closest to Mother..." Shannon said in a very tense voice that showed she was doing everything she could to hold her emotions in. "I will take charge until we can rescue her and bring her back. Mother saved us countless times, now, sisters, it's our chance to return the favor."

Corona scowled bitterly, while Shannon was wasting time organizing the sisters, the bad guys that stole Mother were getting farther and farther away every moment. So instead of sticking around like a good co-captain, Corona decided to take up her shield harpoon and leave. They had limited time before it was too late, so Corona was - okay, in all honesty, she and Mother butt heads quite often. They never really got along. The only reason Corona was willing to stick her neck out for the uppity fiend was because Reyna seemed to like her despite all the secrets she kept. Allowing Shannon the chance to be theatrical, Corona slipped away, diving into the ocean with as much speed as she could muster.

Once in the water she shut her eyes and focused, concentrating on where the unusual rippling was coming from. Those ripples would be what lead her to the sailors that dared to take away someone that was important to Rey! So she swam under the water, keeping her waterproof bag with her that carried her gun on hand as always and finally she found the ship. To Corona's horror, they weren't just leaving with Mother - no, they had their anchor down. Whatever business they had here, it was to stay. So Corona slid onto a dry rock and aimed with her mental enhancement of perfect aiming and fired her bullet right at the so-called captain on board. It would have hit her target if she had a longer ranged weapon, but a pistol wasn't good enough, not for this. And then suddenly there was a loud crack, and a - it looked like a distinct feminine figure with bright blonde hair - fired a bullet from her sniper rifle and it just barely missed Corona by inches. She tried to slip back into the water then. "Dammit with those sniper rifles..." But then another shot. Well then, it seemed she was pinned here. Corona used up her warning flare, to warn the others not to come help her, because if they tried, the sniper would just kill them instead.

Reyna dropped the tray, the food floating up to the ceiling. Fish darted this way and that, eating up the bits of food meant for The Mother. "No," Shannon went to see what was taking her so long, discovering the blood and scales and Reyna sinking there, frozen in place. "Shit," Shannon cursed and hooked onto Reyna's elbow, dragging her back up to the surface. "Don't think about the blood," she murmured, knowing very well that Reyna had a supposed phobia of plasma. Reyna shook her head. "The M-Mother," Reyna spluttered, looking up at Shannon who appeared awfully calm. "I'll organize the girls, you go get some rest. It's late, you need the sleep." Reyna nodded numbly, heading up to her room. Her clothes were dripping wet, she was shivering with every step. She closed the door to her room, locking it shortly after and standing in the center with the lights off.

Finally Reyna flicked on the light switch. She took off her clothes and hung them out to dry in the bathroom. Once that was done, she leaped into action. Reyna pushed aside her mattress, revealing what appeared to be a saber. She pulled on something to cover her important parts and opened up the window. It was two stories down to the sand underneath the opening. Reyna held the saber in one hand and jumped, dropping and rolling in the sand. This was something she could do, she had to help before the others got themselves hurt. If the Mother died, their island would be in ruin, it would slowly begin to die and become uninhabitable by its near 100 resident mermaids. "I'll save her," she tied the saber to her waist, keeping it out of tail territory. "I'll save them all," Reyna slipped into the water, her legs turning into one sleek, dark tail.

She eased herself into the water and began to swim towards the boat. Shots fired, Reyna poked her head above the water to see a blonde aiming her gun. Aiming it where? She swiveled and gasped, Corona was there with a pistol. That wouldn't do anything from where she was! With a grunt, Reyna sunk underneath the surface once more and swam towards the rock. She was careful to weave around the fire coral and came up slowly behind her so as not to startle her. "Corona," Reyna whispered. "What are you doing? All that gun is good for from here is giving you away!" The flair had done nothing but alert the sniper as to Corona's position. "Get down!" Reyna dragged Corona into the water, the next shot barely missing their head by an inch.

Reyna was breathing hard, she gripped her saber harder. One hand kept Corona down, the other was grasping the foil. "What do you think you're doing!" It was probably one of the only times Reyna had ever lost her temper in front of Corona. "You completely gave yourself away! You're no use to anyone dead!"

If she moved, she would get shot. If she didn't move, she would get shot. Honestly, Corona had no idea what she could do, so she aimed her pistol. Her mind automatically calculated all the wind and draw and other such things so she always knew exactly where to point the sights of the gun, but, well, the problem here was that she was too far away, her little pistol didn't have the necessary range. The flare was a warning to others not to come, after all, the blonde sniper already knew exactly where Corona was so there was no damage done by doing the flare. And that was when someone blatantly forgot what each flare signified, Reyna was behind her. "Get away, it's dangerous, I have my harpoon shield, I'm fine!" The only reason Corona wasn't dead was because she was carefully hiding behind the shield on her weapon.

But Reyna's saber - and the engineer didn't remember making a saber for anyone, let alone for Rey - didn't have a shield, just a hand guard. And then after another shot from the blonde, Reyna took the opportunity to grab Corona - who was quick enough to shove her gun back into it's bag - and she was dragged into the water and then pinned down on the sandy sea floor. Corona struggled, she needed to keep fighting, now they she was no longer pinned down this was her change to approach the ship again but Rey was holding her down, Rey was... so much stronger than one would think a medical cook that's afraid of blood would be. "I thought I could save Mother." Corona muttered, hissing to herself. "I didn't - we need - what are we going to do about the sniper? As long as she exists, we can't get close!"

It was going to be impossible for now, they needed to back off for now. It was horrible, because Corona knew exactly what sailors did to girls, and what they were probably doing to Mother right now. Yes, Mother was a pain and no fun for anyone to deal with, but she deserved better than to be a toy for the sailor's perverse pleasure. "They're going to violate her, Reyna, I can't just-" And then all of a sudden all of the fear, all of the powerlessness, it all came floating back and Corona shivered as she was held down. Instead of feeling like a powerful killing machine, she just felt like a vulnerable little girl that was powerless to the whims of men all over again.

Reyna tried to breathe, but it was growing hard. Corona was acting like a fool, completely giving herself away, using a gun that while it could be of use in a situation where the enemy was a bit closer would be of use. However, not anything as long as what Corona was going for. Acting without a plan was not Corona's strong suit and it was for these reasons that Reyna pulled her underneath the water, a bullet barely missing their heads. "What do you think your'e doing!" Reyna snapped, recalling an old frustration. When the objective was right before you and someone else got in your way, or it was snatched out of your reach. The fact that it was someone so smart who would get in her way was the most frustrating thing of all. "You're not fine, her sniper rifle could easily make a dent in your shield." Reyna shook her head, the power of that gun was stronger than anything Reyna had ever seen. "Bird shot," Reyna suddenly realized. "She's using an enhanced bird shot, if that had hit you Corona there would have been nothing left of you."

Corona glanced at her saber and instantly Reyna knew she had made a mistake in bringing it here. "You can't save Mother, not if you're not thinking logically." Reyna let go of Corona, hoping that she wouldn't make the mistake of trying to go back up there. "Go back to the beach Corona, help the other girls." That would be the best thing she could do, as one of their technicians that knew her weapons better than anyone else, Corona was too important to die. Reyna, however, Reyna was expendable. Someone else could always fill her position, cooking and cleaning wounds? It was nothing compared to fighting or the singing the sirens did. Reyna was silent a moment, "I can take out the sniper, I'll make an opening. It'll be short, but as long as you and the others act quickly it should be fine." Reyna brushed her hair out of her face, the blue floating around like the ocean itself.

"Why is that always your default?" Reyna questioned, then knew she had made a second mistake. She and Corona had promised to never question one another about their past. "Never mind, don't answer that. We don't know that they'll violate her. For now, let's just assume they only want her for value. If that's the correct assumption, they won't make the mistake of harming a hair on her head as it's likely they have a buyer." Reyna was pacing, er, as much as a mermaid could pace down in the deep blue sea. "If I can create an opening, you guys can go in there and extract Mother." Worst comes to worst, Reyna would exchange herself for Mother. If it was a mermaid they were looking for, they would be satisfied with any model, wouldn't they? Reyna suddenly froze, recalling something awful. "The ship," she breathed, nearly choking on water.

"The ship, aren't those the same pirates that swore revenge?"

This was all just one giant hassle. Okay fine, maybe she didn't care about Mother anymore, what a big freaking pain. No, the big problem here was that the ship was still anchored to the beach, they were here for the long haul. This was going to be a very, very big problem, one that wouldn't be easily solved just like this. Reyna had dragged her under the water, and from the saber in her companion's hands, it was very obvious that this girl was hiding more secrets than Corona was. But they did make that promise ages ago, and well, Corona had no interest in her past, what mattered now was Reyna's present self. "I wasn't gonna be hit by it!" Corona grumbled unhappily. "And my shields are reinforced iron alloys, they're really strong!" Okay, well maybe not strong enough for whatever fancy human tech they had now.

Fine, maybe it was true, maybe she couldn't save Mother. But that didn't mean - it wasn't like - "W-well you can't either, Rey, you're not suited for fighting, okay? You're weaker than me, the battlefield isn't a place for you!" Reyna, squeamish with blood, never participating even in singing, she just wasn't meant to be a fighter. And here she was, trying to talk strategy? It was nonsense. "Rey, if we're gonna save mother, we gotta wait, we'll need everyone's help. If I go back, you come with me, we can't fight them now, not yet." Her expression darkened then. "And we don't know if more sailors aren't kidnapping the rest of our sisters this very second." Fine, maybe it was in haste that she tried this reckless rescue mission, but not it was clear that they needed a better plan with everyone's strength to bring Mother back.

Not very subtly, Corona decided to ignore the little nagging question of why her default was what it was. No, she wasn't - she wasn't going to go into it, she didn't want Reyna to know that her dear friend was a murderer all this time - worse, she didn't want Reyna to think of her as a weak girl that couldn't protect herself from the whims of men. It was fine being thought of as a strong, smart figure that was instrumental to their survival. "If it is them, then we really gotta go back and plan things out with our sisters." So she firmly took hold of Reyna's hand and swam away from the cove, back to the inner stretches of the island where Shannon was organizing everything.

It was then that Corona and Reyna told Shannon, the acting leader in Mother's absence, everything they knew. And with that it was clear, there was a consensus - they would rest and clear their heads and then have a communal meeting with all ninety-seven girls to figure out the next step. So with a very angered and stressed heart, Corona went to sleep, already trying to think of the Shield Harpoon MK II, with enhanced sharpness and stronger shields and maybe even a way to make a waterproof mounted gun as well.

Jacke Wolfe stood underneath the pier, lighting up a cigarette with his bloodied hands. "Damn," he muttered, continually fumbling to get the damn lighter to light up. "Fucking thing never works," it was in this moment that two things happened. One was that in his frustration his bloodied hands allowed his cigarette to drop into the sand. "Tch," he turned, the second thing happening so fast it took him by surprise and nothing took Jack by surprise. Except for maybe the nice curvature of a woman's behind, but that was a story for another time.

"Shit kid, you scared me!"

"Are you Jack Wolfe?" Jack stopped, wondering where this was going. Usually that question led up to two events, one being an act of revenge, the other being a penniless fool asking for his service. "Depends who's asking," he grumbled, wiping his hands on a handkerchief. The guy pulled out a smoke, offering it up as well as a lighter. Jack took it, sniffing the seal to check for poison. Nope, just the sweet tar of carcinogenics. Jack looked the man up and down, taking a long drawl of his cigarette and puffing the smoke out in rings. "Yeah, I'm Wolfe," he said gruffly, taking another drag.

"My name is Oz Venus."

"Idiot."

"Excuse me?"

"Don't just offer up your name to a merc, look kid, it's clear you have no idea what you're doing." Without another word, the kid dropped a duffel in front of him. Jack frowned, kicked over the bag with his toe. His eyes went from slits to saucers, a nice wad of green pouring out. "Holy shit! Where'd you get this much cash?" Jack knelt in front of the bag, hesitated. This could be some sort of trick, this guy could be working for the cops for all Jack knew. "My name is Oz Venus-"

"You killed my father prepare to die."

"What?"

"Nothing kid, just get on with it." A reference that went right over his head? For shame.

"Anyways, I want to hire you. I have a boat-"

"Uh, uh kid, I don't do boats. No sailor uniforms or singing on the sea and holding hands like a friggin' Disney movie."

"Please-just let me finish." Jack grunted and leaned against one of the pedestals of the pier. He nodded for the kid to continue. Oz cleared his throat, he shuffled, looking rather awkward. The scar across his face told tales that his words failed to vocalize. "You're not gonna believe me, but there's something out there and I need to get revenge for my Father and Brother's death."

"Something out there?"

"Mermaids," Jack laughed. "You're off your rocker! Look kid, I don't know where you got this sack here, but I suggest you return it. I don't chase fairy tales, I only take real cases,"

"I'm willing to pay double! This is just the deposit," Jack froze. Okay, perhaps his greed was getting the best of him. Why not humor the kid? "And 'spose we find these legendary 'mermaids,' if they do exist. What happens then? Do I get to keep one? Bang it? Sell it?"

"You can do whatever you bloody want with it."

Jack grinned, "That's just what I wanted to hear. Fine kid, you got yourself a deal."

"Captain."

"What?"

"I'm Captain to you." He held out his hand, the two shaking on it. Jack picked up the duffel, he would have to make a quick stop at his jockey. "So, where's this boat of yours?"

"That one." Oz pointed, "that's my baby."

"I have some things I need to tie up before we leave," Wolfe said, dropping his cigarette. He hefted the bag of cash up, zipping it shut and throwing the loose leaves into the duffel. "I'll meet you at the ship," he tapped the side of the hull, the metal not so much as reverberating. "Wow, this thing is solid," Jack's wolf like grin had returned to his face. He was getting triple the normal pay for doing almost no work! "Sucker, can't believe he believes in crap like mermaids." Oz turned away from the wolfish man and grinned to himself. He couldn't believe his luck! He had been hunting down this mercenary for nearly two years, saving up enough to pay this guy by running cargo across the nation with his vessel. He had left everything behind, including his grieving mother in the hunt for revenge.

Three hours later, Jack returned sans duffel, but with his own bag. "What the hell took you so long!" Oz fumed, he had been starting to think that the merc took his money and ran. Guess he was right, there was some honor among thieves after all. The rest of the crew had arrived, it was finally time to set sail. "Don't get your panties in a twist, what did ya think? I was gonna take all that cash with me? No way in hell! I won't let that go down with this ship!" He shoved his duffel onto a shelf. The damn Captain had followed him all the way downstairs into the threshold of where the sailors slept on hammocks. There were private rooms as well, but those were reserved for the high ranking members. Not a problem, Jack had slept in worse places. "Well I'm here, so quit your yapping, where are the boos?"

"We don't drink while working, the alcohol is under lock and key."

"I'll pick that later," he mumbled.

"Listen sir! You're on my payroll, so you follow my rules!" Jack turned around, his lips turned down in a sneer. "Did you just call me sir?" He mocked, "What is this? Band camp? We're on the fucking ocean! Take a look around! And just so we make this clear, I'm a merc. You pay me to play by my own rules." Oz couldn't take it anymore, he high tailed it out of the room, mumbling to himself. He went down the hall to the store room in order to ensure the alcohol was still under lock and key. Jack followed him, figuring he may as well find out where they kept it. "Well, well, not even ten minutes and there's already an infestation," he grinned. "I can take care of it," he spoke as though the girl were not a person, but a disposable tool.

"No," Oz turned around. "No, we'll find a use for her. Hey kid, how are your knees?" There were plenty of decks that could use scrubbing. It was too late to turn back anyhow, if they tried to dock at port again it would cost too much.

When Asther was dragged out of the cargo hold, she still couldn't help but find all of this fun and thrilling. How many other fifteen year old girls could say they were caught on some sort of ship heading out to sea? This wolfish man in particular was incredibly exciting in a way that was impossible to describe. There was something in how rugged and strong he was, in that way he seemed as if he really didn't care about anything at all, it was enough to make a bored city girl swoon! Well, she was already swooning because it wasn't like she was good at sea. Daddy was the one driving the ship, of course, that was his job, so it's not as if he could come to the rescue. "I can fight, I know guns!" Okay, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration, but fighting was so much more exciting than cleaning a ship would be. But, well, Asther did play a whole lot of first person shooter games, so she knew at least something, right?

"My knees aren't the best, but I'm a great shot!" Another lie, she was spinning a whole web of them. But every strand was necessary! Who the heck would consider cleaning a ship to be an exciting adventure? No, she wanted something more, something better! "I'm Asther, sirs, Asther Liyua!" And that was enough to make the captain, Venus, widen his eyes in recognition. "Our ship's navigator." He muttered quietly, running a hand through his hair. Maybe in another time, another place, this would have ended with another girl drowning at sea. But instead Asther found herself with a gun in her hands, just a colt python, nothing major like a sniper rifle like she wanted.

Captain Venus then glared at the bigger man then, as if telling him to behave with his eyes. "I have to keep us on track to the mermaid island." He said, clearly not entirely sure what to do with an underage girl here, one that didn't seem to really be afraid of anything whatsoever. "You, make sure she's as good as she says she is with guns somehow." Asther was already fiddling happily with the weapon. It was a double barreled revolver, heavily known as the best hand gun there was, the weight was unfamiliar yet familiar all the same. She wanted to ask where the gun came from, because there were strict gun laws in place, but she knew better. "Um, Big Mister, where can we practice?" She asked, almost bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Aster, huh?" Jack stroked his chin, "too long. I'll just call you Ash," more than likely he'd forget her name and just call her kid. Already it slipped from his mind, oh well, at least she was easy on the eyes. "Lemme see your hands," he took one, jerking it towards him, making her nearly collide with his chest. Jack of course hardly moved and he did little but run his thumb over one of her palms. "Smooth, no callouses. This kid's never worked a day in her life, much less used a gun." That didn't stop their Captain from handing a loaded weapon to an underage child. "Whoa, whoa! Hang on one second!" He grabbed the barrel, slapped her wrist and wrenched the gun away. "You don't just hand a loaded weapon to a-" he turned around, gazed at her chest, then looked back at their captain. "A ten year old!" Wolfe shook his head, "Nah uh, that just won't do Cap'n, this kid won't even be able to withstand the kickback, what with these weak knees and all."

He kicked her behind them, displaying how weak and pitiful she was. "Back where I come from, a woman on a boat is a no go!" Jack was from America, the land of equal opportunity, but whatever. "Still, gotta clap you on the back for tryin'. A sniper rifle, come on, who do you think you're fooling?" Jack was a mercenary after all, he knew when one held a gun and when they were bluffing. Oz was gazing between the two, expression unreadable. "Fine then, you can train her."

"Wha?! Me! No way in hell, I'm busy with shit!"

"With what? We're on a boat in the middle of the ocean Jack."

"With all due respect Captain, some of us like to take midday and early noon naps."

"Those are the same time of day."

"What?"

"Midday and early noon, that's literally only an hour."

"Come off it! I ain't teaching the girl squat!"

Jack wasn't sure how he ended up on the top deck with a ten year old and a sniper rifle between them, but he'd be darned if the Captain pulled one over on him again. Three months later, Jack had set up a hammock on the top deck that he was swinging from while shucking coconuts. His shirt was off, his feet were bare, and his machete was out for anyone who dare glanced his way. Machete wasn't a metaphor, there was a fucking huge knife in his hand hacking at coconuts. "See kid? Patience I tell you, it's a virtue, but I'll be darned if I've got an ounce of it in me." His laughter was more like a cross between a bark and a howl. Wolfe seemed to be an appropriate last name. It wasn't his real name of course, just a handle to go by in the underworld.

"Land ho!" A sailor called to anyone who dare hope.

"That's no way to talk about your Mother!" Jack snickered, not having lost his charm on the voyage across the sea. He grunted as he got up, sheathing his machete with a grin. "See kid? That's what I'm talking about, bat shit crazy. This world is full of mystical things, but sometimes you've gotta see to believe."

Her hands were shaking as she put the saber down in her room. Standing there now, at the cusp of dawn, Reyna realized how Corona had saved her yet again. Going onto that ship alone would have been suicide. If they were still docked by the edge of the mountain by midday, it meant that they meant to take more than just the Mother. Reyna had hardly slept a wink, tossing and turning, weaving in and out of wakefulness as she tried to determine the best course of action to save the one they all called Mom. What kind of mermaid would Reyna be if she forgot about her benefactor? Not a very grateful one that was for sure. The headache that throbbed at her temples was a reminder of it. No, if Mother left the island, it would die and thus, so would the mermaids. "We have to save her," Reyna whispered, her nails digging into her palms; so much so that her palms began to bleed.

Reyna went into her closet, trying to determine something to wear. She knew one other person that would be awake at this hour. Lord only knows that Corona never got up before the sun. No, Reyna was seeking Corona's enemy number 1: Shannon. It seemed that Reyna need not search for her, however, as shortly after she thought this there was a knock at the door. "Come in," Reyna was careful not to raise her voice. She had no desire to wake up the others, especially since some of them were not morning mermaids. "I heard you pacing, I thought you might be the only other girl awake." Reyna nodded, "I was just going to look for you."

"Lucky I came here first. Now, before you start, allow me. Where did you get that saber?" Reyna's hands balled into fists again, warm, sticky blood running between her fingers. "I stole it," Reyna admitted, biting down on her lip. Shannon said nothing, but gestured for her to go on. "Do you recall when Hazuki and went wire stripping on those sunken ships?" Again Shannon did not speak, which was beginning to irritate Reyna. "I took it from the Captain corridor, it was pretty, I didn't think it would ever be of any use." Reyna was lying of course, she was missing her multitool and instead had picked up a nice sword. "There's something you've been hiding, ever since you arrived. It''s in that past you refuse to speak about." Reyna sat down on her bed and smoothed out the sheets for the umpteenth time. She had been practicing this conversation over and over in her brain.

"Shannon, there's something I haven't told anyone, not even Corona." Shannon raised an eyebrow, "I feel as though you're the only one that will never judge me for it, so please, don't tell Corona."

"Your secret is safe with me." Reyna breathed out a sigh of relief. Okay, here goes, time to be brave. "In my past, before I came to the island I mean; I was hired... by certain political figures." Shannon's eyes widened. "You were a child prostitute?"

"What? No! No, nothing like that," Reyna was careful to lower her voice once again. "Let me try this again, I was hired by people, company heads, political movements, to take out others. That wasn't my only job of course, most of the time it was simply infiltration and collecting intelligence. I went around the world, doing mostly whatever it was for anyone that paid the right price."

"You were a mercenary." Reyna winced, she didn't like that word. "No, I was a spy. I was starting to get old enough where they thought... other services could come into play," she wiggled a bit, cluing Shannon in. "How did that work out for you with your phobia of blood?"

"I made that up." Reyna revealed in a whisper. "Oh? Is it because you don't trust us? Or let me guess, you don't trust anyone."

"Please don't take it the wrong way. This was my chance at a new life. To not be Reyna the spy, the one that can't be trusted. I wanted to be someone else and for a while... I was. Now that Mother's been taken, I can't remain passive any longer."

It very, very quickly became obvious that they needed a better weapon, the Shield Harpoon was no longer going to suffice. So Corona got to work, deciding to take inspiration from the giant long barrel of the sniper rifle that blondie had on the ship. And to her chagrin, Nami came plodding after her for whatever reason. It was the middle of the day, but Corona didn't have time to waste. "Allison, can you and Brie be the watch guards? Go up carefully and keep watch of the ship and make sure to signal us the second you see them getting off the ship to attack us." Without information on enemy movements, it was all hopeless. "So what's the plan?" Nami asked, following her once the two twins went to go keep watch on the enemy movements. Carefully, of course, because one hit from the sniper and it was the end of the road.

"I'm going to upgrade my weapon." Last last night she had snuck out to start work on it, she already had the barrel and the scope, she just needed to make the body of the gun and then weld it in place on her harpoon. There was even going to be a function built in to let her press a button to seal the bullets and gunpowder and protect them from water damage. The downside was that it was going to be too heavy to throw, they'd lose that option of course. Another problem was the lack of a scope - so Corona would be the only one to snipe because of her ability while other girls would have to make do with pistols mounted on. There were two salvaged half-fixed shotguns as well, and Shannon would get to wield one of them. "Nami, there's a lot of work, so you gotta help, okay?"

Nami tilted her head a little but nodded, clearly not knowing anything about the forging or upgrading process. "Wow, so you want to spend time with me that much?" She giggled in that flirty way, batting her eyes, wiggling her top half quite a bit. Corona stared for a moment and then began hammering and melting away, turning the forge on. Luckily both she and Nami had goggles, it would not be good if they were to go blind from molten metal flying into their eyes after all. "We need better weapons if we want to protect everyone." Corona replied almost angrily. Nami's smile was infuriating. "So you want to protect little ol' me?" Nami's job was easy - just melt iron bars to be usable as a glue to attach the gun and the harpoon shaft together. Corona would deal with the more technical things, like extending the trigger to be at the thumb when holding the harpoon.

It took a while but eventually Corona completed the first batch of the Shield Harpoon MK II. Shannon's had a shotgun enhancement, Corona's was a sniper, and there were three more with pistols, two for the twins, and one more for whoever needed it. The sun glowed red in the sky and the metalsmith was very, very tired. Despite her aching arms and her strained back, Corona and Nami brought the new batch of weapons down, awaiting for Shannon to come up with a plan on what to do for tonight's mission.

"So you've been lying to us all this time?" Shannon had a flicker of betrayal in her eyes, which was surprising. Reyna looked down feeling rather guilty, "I'm sorry, I did it to protect the others." Reyna hugged herself, "no, the only one you were protecting was yourself. You acted selfishly, you would have been a great addition to the team." Shannon stood, it was clear she was tired of speaking with a liar. "I'm sorry, how many times can I say it?" Reyna inquired, grinding her teeth. "It's not me you have to apologize to, it's Mother."

"Mother knows," Shannon had her hand poised over the doorknob. "Mother knew? This entire time?" Reyna nodded. "She gave me her blessing to keep it a secret," Shannon suddenly seemed much less tense, although the knowledge that Mother knew made her more accepting of the fact that Reyna had kept this knowledge from her. "I saw this as an opportunity to finally be who I wanted to be, not who I was forced to be. If that was an inconvenience to you, I apologize," Shannon strode back across the room. "I understand why you did what you did," she clasped her hands and knelt before Reyna. Rey stepped back, the backs of her knees bumping into the bed. "Please, help us save Mother." Reyna slowly blinked, then nodded. "I'll do it, but please, act like it's been you all along. I'm willing to make a trade, I'll go with them, I'm not a valuable player."

"With your background, you're anything but indispensable." Reyna felt odd, she had never expected anyone to say that to her. She had always been the least valuable one, the one that could be taken out if she accidentally compromised information or let slip something that was vital. "Hear me out," Reyna sat back down on her mattress, Shannon sat at the desk chair. "I've written my entire biography in journals hidden around this room. If my plan doesn't work, you can use these journals to enhance the security on the island."

"And if your plan doesn't work?" Shannon so rudely interrupted.

"Then I'll probably be taken to wherever it is the sailors are trying to go." Shannon instantly shook her head. "No way, Mother wouldn't risk it."

"Mother's been risking it all along. Think about it, she's risked her daughters to protect herself from the sailors. The revenge? It's to protect her, to protect us, but in doing so, we sometimes risk ourselves." Shannon swallowed whatever words she had to say next. "I'd prefer to keep all the daughters together, but if it comes down to it and we have no other method, we will use your plan." Reyna nodded, that was all she was asking for. "Let's organize the others, it's about time we begin evaluating who can fight and who will need to stay behind. This will be a physical battle, no doubt a brutal one. We're going to need to leave the singers behind, unless they can fight." The two of them made their way downstairs, to where many girls were nervously waiting.

It was time for the strategy meeting and everyone was here. Well, okay fine, Allison was still keeping watch of the ship, but Brie was here and the twins had telepathy so it was fine. Corona made sure to find out all the mental enhancements because she needed to know for weapon purposes, customizing their weapons to suit them best. But of the girls in the Main House, despite Shannon theorizing that all girls chosen to live there can boost their brain's processing speed in some way, neither Reyna nor Nami seemed to show any sign of this whatsoever. "It's time for us to devise a strategy." Shannon said quietly, looking over at Corona and Nami and their new fancy stash of weapons. "Can I ask what those are? The look different from usual." Corona then smirked almost wickedly, raising her own special sniper shield harpoon.

"I upgraded a few of our weapons." She explained, feeling very self confident in herself and her contributions. Yes, as a fighting force, they were lacking quite a bit, but now they were going to stand a better chance. "I added-" Nami then poked her in the rib and talked over her. Okay, fine, the Ogygian slut deserved some recognition for her help as well. "We! I did it too, we did... stuff, yeah! Just the two of us, it was so romantic!" Corona decided to shoot Nami a harsh glare of derision. "There was nothing romantic about it." She said flatly, but it was unnecessary because everyone was used to Nami's antics by now. Hazuki did blush however. "Guns for ranged combat, and stronger shields to protect against sniper chick."

So it was time to think up a plan and of course Shannon was delegated to this role. Corona sat herself down next to Reyna while Hazuki behind Brie to avoid Nami's flirting smiles. "They know how we work, we can't do this the normal way. They'll protect their ears if they see us on Choir Rock." Shannon looked at Brie in particular. "But we also need the singing if we want to win in a fight, otherwise they outgun us." Corona raised her hand then with a scowl. "It'll be easy, just let me sneak onto the boat, I can make it explode if I light the engine on fire." There was a very deep, almost blood-thirsty look in her eyes that most definitely wanted to see everyone aboard die a horrible bloody death. "They're helpless in the water."

But then Shannon shook her head almost instantly. "I can't allow that, we're bringing Mother alive, not as a charred corpse." Corona hissed and then slammed her harpoon on the table. She was tired of Shannon always thinking she was the smartest and cleverest of everyone. "Mother probably wishes she was dead right about now." The engineer said darkly, glaring hard at Shannon. "After what the sailors have done, trust me, Shannon, death will be a mercy!" The two glared long and hard at one another then and that was when Nami suddenly pulled on Reyna's arm. "Hey, Rey, can we go relax? This is all so stressful, and we aren't fighting anyways. We don't really have business in strategy talk!" And Corona only got angrier then.

So she hopped up onto the table to make up for her short height. "Are you a moron, Nami?" Corona barked angrily, lashing out at basically everyone now. "The sailors stole Mother, no one's safe alone, especially you two who can't fight! I can protect Rey, she sticks with me, I won't let her out of my sight!" As lazy and combative as Corona was, one of her only good points was her need to protect the innocent, to protect someone pure. Someone who still had what she lost all those years ago. But for Nami, who's ability was to read people, decided to finally unveal her enhancement here and now. "Be honest, Coro." She said with a rare angry smile. "You're only protecting yourself! If something bad happened to Reyna, you would be hurt more than her, you'd feel her pain more than even she would, you're just being selfish!"

Nami, hitting so close to the truth Corona so badly wanted to protect, lost herself in her rage and swung her harpoon right at the nymphomaniac's neck, missing only by an inch. She couldn't think of anything to say, there was nothing and Reyna - Reyna probably thought she was disgusting and - so Corona jumped off the table and pushed Nami to the ground and ran off, too ashamed of her selfishness to want to face the only mermaid she gave half a crap about.

Reyna and Shannon were among the last to arrive. They came at the same time, raising a bit of suspicion, but not much. It was true that Mother had trusted both Reyna and Shannon with much responsibility (Corona as well, but we're talking a different kind of responsible) so it wasn't unusual that they would have a private meeting in this time of need. Reyna sat down between Corona and Nami, who seemed to have collaborated on these strange looking weapons at their feet. Reyna had never seen anything like them, "these are incredible," she breathed, lifting one up. It was heavy as sin, "but they might be hard for the mermaids to carry." Reyna put it down, allowing Corona to explain what they were. Nami interjected, wanting to have credit given where it was due. Once she was praised, she settled down for a moment or two.

"I'll console her once we're done here," Reyna wasn't going to just leave because Corona had stormed out the door. She stood, taking the initiative while all the attention was on her anyways. "Shannon and I have devised a plan of action." Shannon came over with a chalkboard, something Corona had made for them. They used ground up shells and some pigment as the chalk, it erased easily with water. "We have two main forces and one distraction force. The distraction will be the singers, as is the norm. Hazuki, Allison, Brie, you're our featured singers. Whoever you think is best will go with you. The other two teams will be divided as follows," Shannon read off the list. "Anyone who was not called will be here to hold down the fort. Now, in case plans A through Z do not work, we do have a plan Z.2 and while I'm not happy, Reyna has offered to trade herself for Mother, believing herself to be less valuable."

There was instant protest, Reyna was so surprised and touched that she blushed. "No! We need Reyna! Nami is a terrible cook!"

"Who's going to heal our wounds!"

"We can't give up a sister!"

It brought tears to her eyes to think that all of these girls, they saw her as innocent and pure, as the child who was afraid of blood and had an abusive adoptive mother. "Your words have touched me," Reyna said, wiping at the tears in her eyes, "But the fact remains that if our plans do not work, we will need to offer up someone. Since I'm neither a singer nor fighter, I have offered up myself. I've already discussed this with Shannon, it will be a last hope should all else be hopeless." With the meeting concluded, Reyna went to check on Corona. She brought breakfast with her, figuring that Corona hadn't eaten, as it was normal for her to skip meals and lose track of time while working. "Coro?" Reyna pushed past the curtain of palm leaves. "I brought you breakfast," her voice was gentle and melodious.

"I know you're upset, but I've told you all alone," Reyna stopped. She spotted something rather unlikely in the pile of scrap metal, the handle of her saber. Her hands shook as she placed the plate down and picked it up. "Corona, where did you get this?"

Corona wasn't the slightest bit happy at all, but she couldn't think of anything to say. Everything Nami had said - it was all true. She was so close to the truth that it hurt, it hurt, it was agony just to imagine. Nami probably - she probably knew, somehow, if her ability was really what Corona thought it was, there was no way Nami couldn't know what had happened in the past. "We should just get away, I should just grab Rey-" Yes, it all made perfect sense. She didn't really care at all about the other girls, only Rey - so the solution was to kidnap Rey and go far, far away from everyone here, to let them deal with the problem while she and Rey went to safety. That was when she saw it, a local monkey holding a fencing saber in its hands as if it was trying to fight.

How ridiculous. Yes, the rule was to not hurt the wildlife, but Corona didn't care. She picked up a rock and threw it with uncanny precision, the stone striking the furry beast on the head, making it cry out and flee, dropping the weapon - Reyna's weapon. This thing here was a huge mystery, but she and Rey had a rule not to ask, so Corona was definitely not going to. Still angry, Corona tossed the thing where the rest of the scrap metals were, she'd just return it later when Reyna wasn't looking. But of course the engineer didn't expect Reyna to come after her, and yet there she was. Corona didn't know what to say - what if Nami told her all about her past? So she decided to stay quiet and wait for whatever Rey wanted to say first.

And there it was, breakfast. It already looked delicious, she was craving a meaty, protein taste and the mushroom burger made from their home made wheat was right there, waiting for consumption. She grabbed it without thinking, forgetting how hungry and ravenous she was, scarfing the meal down in seconds, not even savoring the taste. "I'm guessing the slut didn't tell you then." Or maybe Corona guessed wrong about her ability. So the engineer sighed dramatically then, making an aggressive, confrontational stance with Reyna. "A monkey had it." She muttered flippantly before going back to the topic at hand.

"The rule was that we don't ask, but there's no rule about telling." She gulped hard, but it was too late, Corona had come this far, she was going to go through with it to the end. And so she told the story of her past, of her mother, the prostitute, of how after she and her brother made her stop selling her body the people from the brothel came and used her, used her mother, and then they took mama away, and they would have taken Corona as well if she hadn't taken a gun and killed them all. "I lost my innocence as a child, all those years ago." Corona explained, staring Reyna down. If this went badly, it would ruin their whole friendship. But one way or another Rey was going to find out - better from the source than from the slut. "Nami was right. I'm obsessed with protecting you because you're what I'm not, Rey. You're innocent, you're pure, you don't know the cruelty of men. I'm projecting onto you, isn't that disgusting?"

But then she stared hard at Reyna with determination, fury blazing in her eyes. "Even if you hate me, I'll still protect you. I don't care what dumb plan Shannon came up with, you're staying with me so I can keep you safe! I'll disobey everyone and jeopardize everything otherwise, okay?" She then handed the saber back to Reyna and turned away. "Don't worry, you don't have to tell me your past. No matter what it is, on the island, you're an innocent girl, I don't care what else happened." And with that she decided to stomp away, partially out of cowardice from what Reyna's reaction might be.
