at 5'11", samuel stands roughly one inch above the national
average. while he doesn't look that well built, he's stronger
than he looks, thanks to years of playing baseball throughout
his childhood. his hair is dark and curly, but he's mastered the
ability of keeping it relatively tame. his eyes are dark brown.
he's quite short-sighted, and usually wears contacts. however,
he typically wears his glasses at the end of a long day or when
he knows he won't be leaving the house at any point. he may
not have changed much as he grew up, but he's attractive in
a boyish, friendly, slightly cheeky kind of way, the same thing
that prompts old ladies to start talking to him out of nowhere.

it seems that every time samuel is home, his mother
begins to criticise his wardrobe. it's not that he has a bad sense
of style. it's more that his mother is... well, not disappointed,
but not exactly happy to have her son wearing jeans, t-shirts
and the same three jackets all the time. while this still makes
him a considerably better dresser than some of his classmates,
samuel's mother and boyfriend now have a mission to improve
samuel's wardrobe. as a result, it's not uncommon to see samuel
slightly overdressed or wearing something... unusual as his boyfriend
suggested something different for him to wear.
L I K E S
as an art student, it's no surprise that samuel loves all
kinds of art, be that digital or traditional. he still loves
baseball, but mostly playing it as stress relief. he adores
reading, and it isn't uncommon to find him reading
shakespeare or poetry to relax. he loves indie music,
but also listens to gaming soundtracks or classical music
while drawing. he's also a caffeine addict.
D I S L I K E S
he hates being patronised about his choice of career,
and it's a very easy way to piss him off. he hates itchy
clothing and refuses to wear it under all conditions. he
doesn't like herbal teas, and could honestly take or leave
regular tea. he hates reality tv and bad rom-coms, but
also plot-less action movies. even though he learned to
drive, he hates having to do so.

O N E . samuel is an incredibly talented artist. he can work with practically any medium he's given. while it's taken lots of practice and hard work to get to where he is, he always had a natural flair for it.
T W O . samuel is willing to work extremely hard to get whatever it is he wants. whether it's just in a class he struggles in, or when it comes to getting an internship.
T H R E E . he's incredibly loyal. it takes a lot for samuel to give up on somebody, and he's almost always willing to give them a second chance.
W E A K N E S S E S
O N E . samuel is incredibly defensive, both of himself and of those he loves. he will rise to confrontation or criticism without dwelling on it too much.
T W O . that said, samuel does his best to avoid starting confrontation. which means that he can be a little too prone to just doing what he's told or whatever will prevent an argument.
T H R E E . he has a tendency to block people off when he's hurting, which only serves to make the problem worse.

despite their best efforts, samuel is still a flawed human being. he rises to confrontation and becomes defensive, whether of himself or his loved ones. he gets frustrated and angry easier than heβd like, and when heβs angry, upset, or frustrated, he cuts people out and turns to less healthy coping mechanisms. the people he loves can manipulate him if they know him well enough. when he shuts down and cuts people out, heβll snap at people that had nothing to do with the source of his negative emotions, and often can get caught in this negative cycle. he never learned how to handle his negative emotions, only to bury them.

So they went along with it. All they wanted for him was the best, so his happiness was vital in that. But they made damn sure that Samuel would be the type of person to succeed in whatever career he chose. They gave him ambition, they gave him determination, they gave him their work ethic. When all he wanted to do was sit in his room and draw while they held their dinner parties, they forced him to socialise and gave him the social skills he would need to succeed. And even if he hated it at first, he grew to be grateful for it. He played sports and made the varsity baseball team. He practised and practised his art. He kept his grades at a level that was satisfactory to his parents. And then he was accepted into his dream school, still in the city. Somewhere along the way, he came out as bisexual- he went to a liberal school and his parents were accepting, so it wasn't a particularly big deal for him. It did, however, mean that his parents had twice as many people to try and set him up with.
He met Jamie at one of his parents' dinner parties. The son of a friend of a friend, Jamie himself wasn't quite sure why he was there. But him and Samuel hit it off, and spent most of the evening talking. They went on their first date a week later, and the rest is history. They're an odd match, really. Jamie is majoring in business, and has recently gotten an internship out of town. But things were starting to go wrong before that. They started arguing and it just... never really stopped. Sure, they have their good moments. They have the rest of the world fooled that they're as happy as ever. But it's all a lie. Behind closed doors, it's really just a matter of time before they start arguing again. They don't even know what it's about most of the time. But Samuel is starting to realise that maybe they're not so good for each other.
