The city

It is the melting pot of the world: Modern technology and ancient believes, a hundred-years old front hiding a futuristic sound studio, rows and rows of concrete blocks opposite a mansion worthy of a queen, cardboard box communites, high society, fashion victims, penthouse-owning drug dealers, disgruntled workmen, child-abusing poets, hypochondric doomsayers...

The city is governed by the Five. Those are five individuals representing Politics, Economics, Religion, Ecology and Warfare. Each petition must be approved by at least three of the five. Elections are held every five years and in theory every citizen can become a candidate. In reality the most powerful, wealthy and influencial parties decide. As they still have to balance five different interests, democracy, in a sense, is preserved. Normal people usually don't care about the Five anyway as long as they can make ends meet.

At the moment there is no global conflict and taxes are moderate. Monotheism and polytheism clash infrequently, but the age of daily terror has passed for now. Air pollution in the city is rather high, but not as high as to make going out without a filter mask suicide. The army consists of professionals and deals mostly with natural disasters or small riots. Crime rates vary between district. In a district with lots of shops more break-ins are reported, a district with mostly lodgings has more domestic crimes.

The Innocent

Starting a few years ago a persistent rumor had weaved his way from the lowest sewer to the highest skyscraper that people existed who could change you with a mere touch. Following the touch your vices would turn into virtues and vice versa. The change depending on the strength of the vice or virtue. A man beating up his wife every weekend after getting drunk would not suddenly become an organ-donator but he could start donating money to charity. A woman taking care of street cats would not turn into a chainsaw-wielding maniac but she could become a petty thief. So far neither science nor religion has acknowledged this phenomenon despite several people swearing on their lives that those changes had come to them unbidden and unwanted after being touched by a stranger calling himself or herself the Innocent. Some people have been sent to the madhouse, others have taken back their words, but some of them had tried to find the Innocent again to regain their old self. Thus another, not so well-known, rumor was born - if you have changed so much you can't recognize yourself anymore, spilling the blood of an Innocent will set things right again...

Your character

Having lived in the city as long as you can remember, it is the only place you would ever call home. To bring your pre-touched character really to life, please describe personality traits, hopes and despairs, vices and virtues, family and friends, working and living circumstances as detailed as possible. Give a glimpse of the daily life of your character in the city before the change happens. It is up to you to decide how your character has to deal with the urges that compel them to gradually turn into a negative copy of their old self. You can leave them completely clueless or give them some knowledge of the rumours or even let them be part of a conspiracy group blaming the Innocent on either Politics, Economics, Religion, Ecology or Warfare.

The story

This roleplay is character-driven, meaning the more fleshed out your character is and the more believable his/her interaction with other players or the environment is, the better it works and the more fun you (and I) will have. The appeal of this roleplay is to explore the depths of your character, to show us how he/she will react to an incomprehensible change. You shape the life of your character after the touch and I or rather my characters will keep the road you chose to walk interesting and challenging. Every choice you make has a consequence. Every action has a reaction. Are you ready for the change?

The introduction

Once your character is approved, describe in your introductionary post the moments/hours/days before the touch. I recommend starting with a routine action like going to work or fetching your child from school. You don't have to put everything there is to know about your character into this post but please share enough to get the idea. After an introduction post (please put Introduction: character name in bold in the first line), it is my turn to post. Once your character has been touched you are free to post whenever it fits. Don't forcefully squeeze a post in between two other characters talking. If you feel you don't get enough posts/attention write me a pm instead.
