Prisca Hart is an American girl with a small, mousy build. Her posture is terrible, her back is nearly always slumped, and the girl has much difficulty in looking others in the eye, especially when being spoken to. The girl is timid like a cat and this is obvious in her avoidant body language and the way she always leans away from others, or dodges their gaze. Otherwise, she is quite forgettable, her hair is nothing special, just cut short with a morose black color that only makes her appear even more meek. On a normal glance her eyes appear to be a pale blue but looking right at them would reveal the true stone grey hue of her irises.

In terms of curves, Prisca doesn't have much, her hips are narrow and her waist even more so. Her chest might be her only redeeming value, erring on the smaller side of average, but not horribly flat either. Upon a cursory glance it's common to think of her as cute, quiet, and hard to talk to, not having an approachable aura at all, unlike some other girls. Even her clothing doesn't help, preferring to robe herself in mostly black with bits of white to highlight the outfit, simple above-the-knee skirts and blouses.

"The end of days has come, as foretold by the Book of Revelations!"

That was the mantra everyone in America was lambasted with ever since the light bearers were discovered. The Catholics used light bearers in America as proof of holy powers, turning even those that refused to believe. Resources were dwindling, and the Hart family, distantly related to the main branch of the Ray family, was one of those that were against the use of light bearers in war. As light bearers were forcibly discovered and then shipped off for experimentation and training, even young children, more and more people began to try to rebel. But those in power, they saw the merit of these powers, using abilities not even guns could keep up with. This kind of advantage, why not try to press it? Japan wasn't the only one dealing with tyranny, America's Shoku was a certain man known as Roger Cross, and he held control tightly, abolishing elections under threat of the light bearers under his control.

War was most definitely brewing on the horizon. And so the higher ups decided to instill martial law to keep it's civilians under control as a response to insurgent activity in which rebels tried to attack light bearing facilities. It was kind of world where twin sisters Prisca and Essie grew up in, a harsh, frightening, and dangerous world.

First was the household issues. Essie, she was always a stunningly beautiful over achiever, charming and friendly, there was no one who didn't love her. Her shadow was Prisca, a shy quiet meek girl that while was liked, was clearly nowhere near as confident as the radiant Essie. The two girls were incredibly close throughout their lives, pledging each other as the other's most important, and with justified reason, of course. Their parents often fought - Harley Ray wanted to move to Japan and take in the newly orphaned Damian, to fulfill their duty as members of Sanctum, but Jared was always against the idea of introducing their children to the shadow war between Prometheus and Sanctum. With all the fighting, Prisca and Essie had no choice but to cling to one another for solace in their troubled younger days.

"Our sisterly love will last as long as this plastic rose lives!"

When the girls hit high school, their homeroom teacher, Patricia Burns, was impressed by their natural abilities and offered them invitations to the library school club. Needless to say, this club had nothing to do with libraries and everything to do with the spread of newly banned prohibited information, trying to teach and promote free speech and the idea of a world without war. Both girls were happy to learn and exchange these banned books with the other members of the Library Club, they felt as if this was their hope in a dangerous world where one wrong word would send black vans to your house to take you away, never to be seen again. Naturally, Essie befriended one of the more well read boys in the club, Callum Riggs, smart, clever, and darkly humorous, Prisca had a bad idea about him from the start. Yet one could say it was true love at first sight for Callum and Essie.

Life at home escalated of course with the finding that father returned home one night smelling like another woman's perfume. Harley Ray, who could no longer deal with all the troubles, decided that he was a bad influence on the house and reported him for sympathizing with the rebels. Jared Hart was taken away, never to be seen by his daughters again. A clever way to make someone disappear. So when the delinquent Callum kept trying to get Essie involved in actual vigilantism, to join the Freedom Fighters even if either sister was a light bearer, Prisca was always worried. Essie would always go to the fights, to help free the captive light bearers, and Prisca always feared that eventually, Essie would be caught, and worse, killed. And no matter how many times the sisters argued, Essie had already fallen in love with Callum, it was too late to convince her to stay away. Learning from her mother's path, Prisca decided to make her own decision, and became the snitch, ratting him out to the officials.

Needless to say, things got worse from here. Under torture, Callum revealed all about the Freedom Fighters trying to retake America and make it a democracy again, as well as the Library Club at the high school. A list of names was made, and then black vans came to take everyone away. Parents were shot trying to protect their children, a certain Hime used her influence to break Callum out and have him escape to Europe safely, but no one else managed to get away. Everyone involved was gathered in a room, and one by one they were suffocated with bags over their heads. Essie looked to Prisca before her bag was delivered, and one word was mouthed. Traitor. And naturally, Prisca was spared at the very end, allowed to live because she served her patriotic duty well. Her reward was to be made an experiment, to become an artificial light bearer to continue serving her country.

Prisca became a Martyr then, the first successful American-made light bearer. And with her new ability, she herself was turned into a child soldier, to fight for the country that stole everything away. Worst of all, she wasn't even allowed to die, the scientists all made sure that she never had the chance to end it all. This wasn't a reward at all, but a punishment, for snitching out everyone. Oddly enough, this act cemented America as a major power to stand against the New Japan's might after Emperor Ira Shoku defeated the Freedom Fighters and the HIVE. The two became the centerpieces of the war, and entire cities were turned into ruin as light bearers clashed with light bearers. In the end, the Yui of prophecy did something, breaking out of Shoku's control and in that final battle, she rained death down into the entire world, reducing everything to nothingness.

As for Prisca? Well, she found a certain girl during the final battle, going as Nemesis, one of the strongest under Shoku's power.. Prisca didn't stand a chance, she was going to join the dead very soon, keeping only a childhood keepsake, a reminder of her dead sister, the plastic rose. She was terrified yet also eager for a chance to apologize, and maybe she would have gotten it too, at least, if it wasn't for a fragment of the Goddess finding her and binding her soul to the rose in preparation for a new conflict...

❝Roses dyed in blood
Decaying into the void❞

Returning to Yavin felt, oddly enough, like returning back home after a long quest. Except instead of six, they had two more travelers with them, twins with a legacy behind their name, one of whom was clasping protectively onto a book with a certain four letter nickname etched onto it, written in the old language, of course. Siblings who very vehemently wished to be helpful to the Rebellion in some way, as thanks for providing them sanctuary and escape. "Hey, mind going ahead?" Gavin asked Miiko and Rose, gesturing at Daisy, who looked much paler than she did when they first went to the boat. "We gotta get her to a place that can help her, or Jellyfish is going to have an aneurysm." Like the big brother type he was, he seemed to dote on Miiko and Jellyfish both. Callum grunted and Prisca wondered if he showed his true talkative self whenever she wasn't around.

And just like that, taking Sanaa and Kennan with them, Prisca and Miiko headed to meet up with Jace, who was waiting for them at the World Tree. "The others are taking care of Daisy, b-because she got hurt." Well, even if she was frightened in her default mode, the stutter was lessening quite a bit, that was always something right? It wasn't exactly warm here, but compared to the freeze that was Aurum, it felt downright comfortable. "A-and welcome to th-the Rebellion." Rose added shyly, following Miiko's big smiling invitation to the team. Sanaa and Kennan both glanced at each other and then they shared a mischievous grin. "Thank you for saving us, we're glad to be here." Sanaa chimed while Kennan crossed his arms with a trying-too-hard smirk. "I'm gonna be a hero, just you wait!"

Very quickly it became apparent that something was very wrong. Miiko was clinging to Rose after realizing the problem, to the hurt of Jace, who wanted to be the one Miiko ran to for emotional comfort. "A-Athena's fallen ill?" Rose stammered, her heart sinking. No, this was awful, after they were so happy imagining what life would be like after rescuing Stella from L's grasp, now a disaster like this? "Don't worry, w-we have a nurse here for a reason, Miiko, it'll be okay!" Jace took that as a hint and went to talk to Sanaa, Kennan wanting to help as well despite him not having studied anything about nursing. "Athena would n-never die without seeing Stella again first." That much, Rose felt was very true.

But right now, Sanaa needed quiet to work, especially if she wasn't exactly a fully fledged doctor. "U-um, let's give them space, we should ch-check on the rest of the team." While Athena had her own special bed, the rest of the injured rebellion members had to group together in the clinic, whose doctor was long since dead. Now it was just a makeshift infirmary where people with only basic knowledge gathered to try to administer whatever first aid they could. Such was the case of Daisy, whose breathing was very shallow now. "H-how is she?" Callum was too distressed to think about his feud with Rose for now, and Callum was busy redressing the bandages. "I think we need someone to take the bullet out." He said with a grimace. "That's why her natural spirit healing isn't kicking in yet." The current bandages were soaked in mauve. "C-can spirits even have... blood tr-transfusions?" Considering that these bodies weren't exactly alive, more like biological robots than anything else, was such a thing possible?

Miiko sniffled and looked up at Rose. "Do you think Sanaa can do anything?" She asked quietly, turning to watch Jace lead Sanaa and Kennan into their home, allowing Sanaa the nurse to evaluate Athena. Miiko wiped a tear from her eyes, not wanting it to freeze to her cheeks. Miiko's little hands grasped the material of Rose's jacket, "Mommy will live to see Stella again," Miiko repeated. "She will! She can't go, because that would make Stella sad!" Miiko led Rose to the car that would take them down and around the world tree so that they could see how Daisy was doing. Miiko at down in the car and pulled the lever, the car making its way down the tree, ever so slowly winding down the trunk until they reached the base of the tree. "They'll be taking Daisy this way," Miiko pushed up the water fountain so that it slid out of the way, leading to the service tunnel.

They had taken this route the day that Miiko's light bearing mark had filled in and Rose had awakened. "Rose, that day when I met you, Callum recognized you." Was it coincidence? "Did you two work together before you died?" Miiko was innocently curious, she had no ill intentions, she didn't want to cause any trouble, she was just asking questions. She wanted to distract herself from the fact that Athena had fallen ill, from the fact that Daisy might be dying. "If Jellyfish loses Daisy, I don't know what she'll do." Miiko said quietly, "Daisy is her best friend, she's the only one she ever speaks to, I mean, that is, if she can speak." Miiko stopped in front of a door that would take them up the steps to where the tunnel was. It was the tunnel lined with shops where the majority of Yavinese citizens brought back the tools they needed to survive.

Miiko continued leading the way, her stomach fluttering nervously. "Daisy is an important part of the team," she was one of Miiko's friends as well. They stopped in front of the next door, the clinic whose doctor had been abducted and killed on a mission in a foreign land. Miiko pushed past the barrier that kept them from Daisy, allowing Rose into the room to see her friend. They needed to take the bullet out? How were they to do that without hurting her? "I don't know, do spirits have real blood?" Miiko asked, panicked. Daisy looked weak and pail, her complexion making her seem, ironically, like a ghost. Outside, someone cursed, bumping their chair as they made their way inside. "I've come to help," Nino declared. "I'm not a doctor, but I've got the steadiest hands on the island." If anyone could remove the bullet, it was Nino.

"Rose, Miiko, I'd like your help." Miiko sat up straighter, "Aye, aye Nino! Just tell us what to do!" Miiko gave a salute, Callum and Gavin clearing the curtained area in order to give the girls space. "Miiko, go get a bucket of warm water, Rose, I'd like you to get the bandages and stand over the wound with a magnifying glass." Miiko picked up the bucket and ran to the well, the water would be cold, but she could bring it back and light a fire in order to warm it. Brisk liquid sloshed over the sides, Miiko was doing her best not to lose any water on the way back to the medical building. She started a fire in the fire place and placed the bucket of water over it. "Okay! I did it!" Nino handed Miiko a mask to put over her nose and mouth, making Miiko feel like a real nurse.

"Like I said, S-Sanaa might not be fully trained, but she's experienced with advanced technology, isn't she?" And she had access to more knowledge of illnesses and injuries than a doctor born and raised in Yavin would be, therefore the chances of her being able to recognize the problem was higher than for any untrained eye around here. "And plus, as a mother, Athena would never make her daughters sad by leaving them like this." Preferably not by leaving at all, but Prisca could barely recall a bitter memory of her mother being shot as she tried to protect both her and Essie from being taken away by the black vans of the American Government. They entered the compartment that would take them down the tree and Rose tried her best to remain calm and comforting because the last thing Miiko needed right now was another jittery panicky person.

As they went through the familiar scenery, a strange and unavoidable question was asked, no matter how much Rose wished she could ignore it. She didn't want it to be known, she didn't want Miiko to think of her as the horrible person that ratted everyone out! She didn't want to be seen like that! This was her chance to have a fresh start, to be seen as who she wanted to be, not to be identified by the sins of her past. "...All spirits know each other." Rose answered after a brief pause. "We're all notable light bearers from around the time the Calamity happened, when the Maiden of Tragedy, the Immortal Girl, ended everything." It was a good guess, since all three of them here were connected, they were all a piece of the puzzle that was the Third World War.

"We're not alive, you know, princess?" Callum said with a not-unkind sarcastic drawl. "We don't even know if Daisy can die. We're being held alive by the Girl of Light, she probably won't let our duties end so easily." Rose couldn't help but agree, no matter how grim the situation here seemed. They were brought here for a reason, dying again was too mundane to justify their existence. Nino came then, she wasn't a doctor, but she was willing to try and help to remove the bullet and allow the naturally expedited healing of a Spirit begin. Rose was glad to help, gathering bandages as Gavin and Callum made way for the girls to do their work. "H-here, will this help?" She offered the magnifying lens too.

Nino examined things carefully and then snapped on sterile gloves. "Here, you two put these on, we can't let germs touch the wound." Once again Rose was dubious about if a Spirit really could die, but she was willing to play along. Since Miiko was Miiko, Rose was the one made to hold the wound as open as possible to allow for Nino to clear her vision by dabbing away at the blood with a cloth wetted by the warm water Miiko had prepared. Once that was done she stuck the tweezers in and after some effort, the bullet was forced out, Jellyfish staring the entire time in that hyper cognizant state, knees clattering together in her seat.

Miiko had forgotten about Jellyfish's presence. Jellyfish was so quiet that she seemed more ghost than human, allowing herself to disappear into the background of concrete and gently wafting curtains. If Jellyfish wanted to help fix her spirit than she made no such indications, instead allowing herself to curl up into a ball, probably what Miiko would have done if this were to happen to Rose. Now wearing a hospital mask and gloves, Miiko continually retrieved fresh cloths for them to use to keep the blood from spreading. Nino managed to extract the bullet with a peculiarly long pair of tweezers and slowly stitched up the wound. "I've got more bandages if you need!" Miiko had a whole supply, which she pulled out from her pocket in a different array of colors and sizes. There were sparkly ones, pink ones, normal sized ones, big ones. "I think we're good on bandages for now," Nino replied, placing a plaster over the short line of neat stitches.

Nino's handiwork was so pretty, her hands had remained steady despite the fact that she had never operated on a human before. Once it was done, Nino sat back in her chair and breathed a sigh of relief. She removed the bloodied gloves and placed them in the trash bin. Miiko followed her lead, pulling off her own bloodied gloves and disposing of them. "Don't worry Jelly, I'm sure that Daisy is gonna be just fine!" Miiko assured her, hanging onto the armrest of the chair that Jellyfish was sitting on. Miiko suddenly remembered something, something very important. "Thank you for your hard work Nino," Miiko praised her and grabbed Rose's hand. "We're going to go on a walk, come find us if anything happens!" Miiko tugged on Rose to make her follow, the two of them going out the door. "Jaren!" Miiko hissed, suddenly remembering the investigation they had begun before leaving.

Miiko stopped in front of a booth and traded for two warm bowls of soup with handmade noodles. The two of them sat away from the crowd, on a doorstep close to where a cat was making its way down the ally. "We need to find out what happened to Jaren, if he's still on Yavin." Miiko said, slurping her soup. She felt hungrier than usual, probably because Gavin hadn't packed enough sandwiches and Miiko had split her's with Rose on the way back. Silly Gavin had forgotten to account for Sanaa and Kennan, whom they treated with the utmost care on the journey back in Nino's boat, the Freedom of the Seas. "Gavin suspects it was Jaren that could have betrayed us, but do we have any proof? And if he did betray us, what was his motivation? Is the Republic coercing him? Or was he never a real rebel to begin with?"

All citizens of Yavin were rebels that contributed to the rebellion in one way or another. Not just anyone was allowed to live on Yavin and in return the citizens received freedom that they otherwise would not have. Of course you couldn't just go away either, if you left Yavin, then odds are, people would know. They would have heard Jaren leaving, people would have been speaking about it, Jace would have been made aware of the vacancy so that someone could move up on the wait list. Yes, there was a wait list of rebellion happy people that wanted to move to the island. They had to pass extensive background checks and it couldn't just be anyone.

|| Jar of Hearts || Christina Perri ||

After dealing with the Daisy crisis, there was a whole other problem that they were going to have to deal with. After all, even with including Sanaa and Kennan to the team, the fact remained that there was very likely a traitor feeding the Republic information on what the Yavinese Rebels were doing and planning for their operations. The reason the Aurum Mission hadn't been foiled was likely because it was kept secret, only Jace, Athena, Nino, and the light bearers knew about it, and none of those nine were suspicious at all. "We've let the traitor hide for now, it's time to unveil them for what they are." As of now, the easiest way to get information out of him would be to find him and question him directly, even if it meant cornering a possible innocent. But Jaren was their best chance for a lead and Rose wasn't going to let that slide.

"Gavin already mentioned a motive to us." She said with detective-like intellect, remembering when they tricked Gavin into believing that Miiko had been tortured for information. "Remember how Jaren's son was sent to Jaspar's hospital for treatment? It stands to reason that his son was one of those taken to Aurum." And so following that logic, it wasn't too far-fetched to believe that just maybe, there was a price given in exchange for offering him a home in Aurum. "What if L pressed him for information in exchange for the right to reunite with his child?" Justifiable motive or not, it still didn't prove guilt. But it was the best they had for now, so what could the two detectives do but press their current lead and go on from there?

That line of thinking was what lead to Rose and Miiko donning Republic uniforms once more, and sticking unseen to the shadows, they approached Jaren's residence, as surmised by the mail system Rose had snuck in to check. And with that they entered Jaren's residence... and almost immediately they realized that that was a horrible mistake. Within seconds the door locked behind them, triggering a Republic rifle to be lowered from the ceiling, held up by strings triggered by the door being opened and shut. "Just like I told the last ones that came, I have no intention of cooperating with you stoogy bastards!" A voice yelled in a low rumble, a voice that could belong to no one but Jaren.

Rose had to think quickly, this was not a favorable situation to be in. "I only-" But then the gun creaked and she had no choice but to shut up. "Backs against the door, don't you dare move!" Jaren shouted forcefully from the shadows of the entrance hall. "You swines, trying to test my loyalty, using my son as a hostage, how dare you! Telling me they would take me to Aurum, what a crock of shit, I won't believe any of it!" He laughed a half mad paranoid laugh that rattled Rose's bones. "I won't believe any of you Republic worms! Now die and let me deliver your bodies to Jace!"

Miiko was excited to try out this method of interrogation. She had to admit, going right into the house, bearing the Republic crest on the fake uniform, she and Rose made their way to Jaren's home. His house was on the outskirts of the village, not inside of the tunnel, but closer to the sea. Miiko shivered in both excitement and with the cold chill that pierce the satin material of her uniform. "I've never done anything like this," Miiko spoke excitedly. She reached out to knock on the door, the entryway opening for the two of them to enter. The door shut behind them, lock clicking into place. Miiko's heart jumped into her throat as she realized that it was a trick, Jaren must have been expecting them! Oh no, Miiko was in trouble now. What was she to do? If she revealed herself then there was no way Jaren wouldn't tell Jace about this, but if she didn't, she and Rose would be dead meat.

"Jaren, wait!" Miiko tore off her hat, she would rather be in trouble than dead. "It's us, it's Miiko!" Miiko looked up at him with a rather terrified expression. "Jace Miya's daughter!" The gun was inches away from her face, Jaren's finger on the trigger. He stopped upon recognizing that silky pink hair and put the gun down. "Girly, what are you doing marching around in Republic uniforms!" Jace barked, causing Miiko to cower. "We-we were sent to test your loyalties!" Miiko replied quickly, "You passed the test, congratulations!" Jaren seemed to calm, even showing an expression of smug satisfaction. "Knew I would," Miiko tugged on Rose's sleeve. "We'll be going now, these are surprise tests, so make sure you don't ever speak about them to anyone!" Jaren nodded, "You can count on me!"

Miiko rushed out of there with Rose, back into the chilly afternoon air. "Well, I guess we can cross him off of our list. Jaren isn't a traitor, just crazy and paranoid." Miiko shivered thinking about what could have happened to them if she hadn't whipped off her hat. "We should go change before someone spots us in these uniforms." Miiko carefully made her way across the rocks to the small boat that was waiting for them. She rowed them across the island, navigating through tunnels and half sunken buildings until they reached the hiding spot. Where was this hiding spot? Good question. The bank in which Miiko and Rose had first met, they were hiding it on the platform a few feet up. Protected from the elements, they decided that this would be the best place to stow their supplies. Miiko changed quickly back into her own clothing, it looks like they might need to fake kidnap someone else.

"Maybe I should hint to my Daddy about a traitor and see what he thinks? Sometimes he'll go ranting if he's in an open mood." Miiko sat on the floor, waiting for Rose to change. "If he found out what we were up to he'd say that it was dangerous and stupid." Miiko gasped, "What if he finds out and revokes our mission privileges!" Miiko shouldn't be afraid, after the mission to Aurum, things had gone so smoothly that Miiko hoped her Daddy would begin to believe in her abilities and praise her like he did Stella.

One misstep and it would all be over. Rose glared hard at Jaren, as if daring him to shoot. Even though they appeared to be republic soldiers didn't mean that they were - no, if they were shot and killed, Jaren would pay the ultimate price of Jace's wrath. This would be a huge mistake for him. And for, of course, Miiko and Rose, as well. "You'll regret shooting us, you know?" Rose said with a calm, almost arrogant demeanor, ready to grab Miiko and dodge at any second, using her ability to foretell when this paranoid father would pull the trigger. Clearly, all Rose could think about was further antagonizing him, turning this into a battle but Miiko had much more flexible thinking and was able to solve the situation by revealing their identities and pretending it was all a trick. Jaren seemed quite self satisfied that he passed the test.

While clearly unhinged, off his rocker, one thing could be said: Jaren was not the traitor they were looking for. "I guess that makes him innocent." Rose mused quietly, shrugging her shoulders. Once they were far enough away from Jaren's abode, she went back to her default and shyly patted her Caster on the head. "Miik... .Mimi, you were s-so clever! Y-you're much smarter than you're given cr-credit for!" Rose would have just turned the situation around and killed him to neutralize the threat, but Miiko was able to find another solution, one that benefited them much more. Following Miiko's lead, the two went to a place that brought chills down the spirit's spine. This place, she recognized it, because she had rested here for a hundred years or more already, this was her near-eternal coffin, this building here.

Maybe it was just her, but Rose was most definitely paranoid just being here. It gave her an air of unsettled panic, even if her purgatory was no longer infecting the nearby area, the room, the fact remained that this had been her coffin. But similarly, it was kind of a perfect hiding place, a secret base just for Miiko and Rose, wasn't it? "It's a l-little weird.... being back here." Memories of wandering her purgatory for a hundred years crept up into her brain and once again the spirit wondered just how long she could hide her true, disgusting self from her wonderful Caster? How long until those eyes of trust and admiration became horror and suspicion? The girls changed and Miiko began laying out possible routes for them to take.

"If we hint it, we shouldn't l-let him realize w-we're the ones doing the i-investigating." Rose said quietly, trying to think of a suitable next move for the two of them. "He won't f-find out, so don't worry a-about our mission rights." They were an undeniably useful part of the team now, Jace had to come to terms with that. "An anonymous message... that s-someone is leaking information, that might be best, since I imagine Jace knows the Yavinese rebels better than anyone else." Or at least, it sounded logical in her head when structured that way.

Miiko grinned, then her smile fell and she pouted. "Who doesn't give me credit?" She puffed out her cheeks, surely if she had a tail it would have been flicking back and forth from the praise. "I can be smart when I want to!" Miiko could also be brave and loyal! She could come up with ideas, albeit they might be terribly childish. Miiko had just averted getting blood on their hands once again. "You were getting weird back there Rose, we should probably avoid making people angry, especially if were dressing up like Republic soldiers. People from the Republic aren't supposed to be here, so if they catch us doing illegal things Daddy really won't be happy." Miiko pulled off her wig. "You can do most of the talking since I think everyone will recognize me, but let's try to keep everyone calm." The boat stopped at the foot of the staircase and Miiko made her way up.

"It is? I pass this building all the time, but you know, I've never stopped to investigate inside of it." Miiko bound up the broken steps, onto the platform where the old bank used to be. "How long were you trapped in here for?" Had Rose been here when Yavin was established? "Were you only allowed to stay on this floor? We can go up to the next one if you'd like. The next one is a little cleaner too and it's got a better view!" Miiko led the way up to the next floor. She stripped herself of her uniform and stashed the wig in an empty drawer. "This used to be something called a bank according to Daddy." Miiko began to put on her clothes, rushing to get out of the cold. "It almost feels like spring compared to Aurum."

"Hmm, I think he already knows." Miiko admitted, "Daddy's smart, he's not going to let something like that go unnoticed. I bet Jaren might tell on us too," Miiko was not happy about that. "I wish we had some kind of memory elixir so that he won't get suspicious." Miiko sat back on one of the spinning chairs, using her toe to push herself around in circles. "Daddy does know everyone, I bet he's already suspicious." Miiko crossed her arms and stopped spinning, feeling dizzy. "He'll have to take up the mantel if we're going to rescue Stella."

Watching Mimi getting all flustered and self satisfied from being praised was always fun to watch. Ah, little Mimi really was like a cute spoiled little brat sister, it was impossible not to dote and pamper her, no matter if Rose was in battle mode or her usual timid self! "You're much smarter th-than most people see, they j-just see you as a cute princess, n-not for a genius!" Okay, maybe genius was overboard, but Miiko most certainly was not a helpless little idiot. Maybe a little naive, but she was happy, or at least it seemed. "We should be m-more careful a-about how we..." Oh, now why was the spirit blushing and staring at the floor, why was she always doing this? Maybe if Essie was here for them to press their foreheads together... but that wasn't possible.

Mimi had the right idea here, their current method wasn't going to work. If they were going to find out the traitor, it would be best to do so in a more inconspicuous way. "E-everyone knows th-that I'm your spirit... th-they'll realize it's us." Even just breathing the air here made Rose feel on edge, she didn't like it one bit, it was far too unsettling for her. Miiko seemed to pick up on that. "Since I died... in 2044." Prisca answered, trying to control her nervous twitch. "The Girl of Light put my s-soul in the rose... and left the r-rose here, w-waiting for a h-hundred years... for you to wake me up." It was the truth, really. "It's like revisiting m-my own grave." Since she never had a grave in real life or anything.

But Jace on the other hand, he would probably know a method to investigate without ruffling anyone's feathers, right? He was a leader for a reason, there was no way he wasn't able to do something like that. "L-let's hint him s-secretly and let him deal with it." Yeah, that would be for the best. Rose summoned her rapier then, feeling a bit more secure with it in her grip. "I-in the meantime, wh-while we wait for the Stella rescue mission... sh-should we get m-more practice for you in fighting?" This time Rose couldn't count on Gavin and the others to make a situation where Miiko could avoid real combat. No, this time her Caster needed to know how to fight.

"G-get your knife out, and, um..." Okay, she had to snap out of it and go back to the fabricated personality the scientists forced into her after torturing her for so long. Little timid Prisca couldn't fight, but this hyper aware light bearer definitely could. Her eyes focused, it was impossible to describe, but you could see the difference. "R-remember what I taught you. I w-won't go easy, so try to land a hit on me, Caster." If Miiko could, then she would be far better than the majority of enemies who couldn't hurt Prisca because all she had to do was predict and avoid and then counter for the finish.

Miiko placed her hands on her hips, beaming. "I am smarter than the average bear, aren't I?" Miiko grinned, mischief prominent in her eyes. "Everyone else considers me the precious Princess that shouldn't have to lift a finger, but it's an inconvenience." Miiko kicked at a loose pebble that had gotten into the building. "I want to help, I want to be part of the rebellion too, but the others are content to just let me stand by and do nothing while they get to have all of the fun." Miiko turned towards Rose, "I'm a rebel too! I'm almost sixteen, I deserve to have the same privileges and responsibilities that all the other rebels have!" Even Rose, who had just joined, was given more to do than Miiko, who had been part of the rebellion her entire life. "Sure, Mommy and Daddy are worried about what will happen to Stella, but Stella doesn't didn't have a spirit to protect them!"

"Not everyone knows, I think some people are still confused about who you are." Miiko ran a hand over her light bearing mark, which was especially white today. "This mark is sort of like a contract," Miiko realized. "But I don't want this to be a one way relationship, where I give all of the orders." Even though Miiko was a spoiled brat that liked bossing people around, she also realized that she was less experienced in the field. "So if you have any advice, I'll take it." Miiko was up on her feet once more, she appeared to be eager to learn something new. "The girl of light? Is that the same one that those people were trying to worship?" Miiko recalled the cultist on the boat that was preaching about praying to the Girl of Light, how you should repent and begin to worship her, not that Miiko believed in a higher entity.

"If there's anyone that can do it, it's Daddy!" Jace was the leader of the rebellion after all and as the leader he was responsible for all of the key players. If Athena were up she would probably be assisting in the efforts. "I think part of the reason is that he's very stressed right now. Mommy is sick, Stella is gone, he doesn't know what to do because Mommy is his right and left hand, she does everything that he can't do. If I'm considered the Princess then Mommy is the Queen." Miiko scratched behind her ear, now feeling depressed over the fact that her Mommy might not wake up. Sure, Sanaa had promised that she would do everything, but what if everything wasn't enough?

Miiko closed her eyes, summoning her magic wand. She pulled off the cap with a flourish and smiled, "Let's get ready to rumble!" Miiko giggled, excited. "I'm not gonna let you win this time, so look out!" While Miiko wasn't the best fighter, she was fast due to her small size, because she was more of an act first and think later kind of girl, she was hoping that Rose would have a harder time predicting what Miiko was about to do. Miiko wildly ran forward, but at the last minute fell to the ground and hugged Rose's legs.

Decaying into the void❞

|| Jar of Hearts || Christina Perri ||

At first glance Miiko was a thoughtless pampered girl that didn't know anything. The truth wasn't exactly that, not at all. While Miiko wasn't some exceptional genius, she most certainly could hold her own intellectually. She just lacked experience and hardening, she had lots of supports and safety nets. But a part of Rose wasn't exactly looking forward to the day Miiko became more cynical after being exposed to more of the world's cruelty. That moment was rough for Prisca, she was still having difficulties getting over that, if it was even possible. "Th-thankfully we're members of Team Light, so we'll be allowed to help for missions more." They proved their mettle at Aurum, they had their own solo part and they succeeded very well, didn't they? Sure, Rose might have forgotten about disabling the boats, but in the end Callum had been able to drive them to safety under cover of the raging blizzard.

It was a common misconception to mistake the two, but in reality the Immortal Girl and the Girl of Light were two different entities, though this knowledge was probably lost over the years as the two figures were blended together in apocrypha and mythology. "The Immortal Girl is the one that caused the Calamity." Prisca decided why not educate Miiko, it was better than to let her believe in the legends. "A little girl, she called herself Yui back when it happened. The Girl of Light, no one knows her name, only that she was a Goddess that split herself into ten pieces, one piece for each Spirit." That was as much as she knew about the situation, being a mere soldier in the Third World War. There were probably others who knew more, others who were members of those mysterious secret societies, Sacred and Atlas? Rose didn't really know or remember.

It was time for them to fight! A practice fight, but still, Rose wasn't going to go easy! Okay, maybe a little easy, since she would avoid actually having a chance to hurt her Caster. This was possible by imagining her rapier up but with a guard on the tip so that it was no longer sharp. The tip was the only sharp point anyways. "Do your best, Mimi." Rose said as she focused and activated her prediction ability, allowing her to see the next three moves of her opponent. The first was some sort of dash forward so Rose prepared to guard - but then at the last second her enemy tripped and hugged Rose's legs instead. Since her ability worked on intent, accidents like falling couldn't be predicted. "Um, hugging my leg isn't how to beat a Republic soldier, Mimi." She gently tabbed the blunt handle of her rapier onto her Caster's head. "I guess I won, huh?"

The Red Fleet was getting anxious. The reason for this was because many of their non-exiled friends and family had been taken by the Republic as hostages, a threat, telling them to stop raiding their cities if they ever wanted their loved ones to be released. While Varus and Annie were the leaders, full of pirate-sense, charisma, and a love for sailing, the brains behind their operations was their second in command, a little girl they picked up from Ornet, an island to the far east. "Like this there's a chokehold on what we can do." Havran said with a sneer, grinning at her Spirit, who called himself the Fox and seemed to know more about her than she ever admitted. "Captain, we need to raid Capitol City, but we can't do it alone." Varus nodded, thinking. "Maybe it's time to give old Jace another visit, hmm?"

Miiko sat up and pouted, rubbing the spot where Rose had poked her with the rapier. "I think I won, I technically tackled you." But Miiko had found a way to surpass the rule of three's, so to say. "We should probably get home soon, it's gonna snow heavily tonight and we need to be up the tree before it starts or the gears might freeze." Miiko stood and pulled her jacket on. She placed the cap on top of her miniature sword and smiled, pointing to the way out with her magical wand. "I'm hungry, I hope Mommy is awake, I want her soup." Miiko wanted her to be healthy as well, but of course she was trying to cover this up by being her usual, adorably bratty self. "Hey Rose, what were your parents like?" Miiko turned to face her, walking backwards down the steps. Of course, Miiko wasn't paying attention and tripped, falling down the steps. "I'm okay!" She called at the bottom, being a bit more careful this time when she walked the rest of the way down and then got into the boat.

Gavin was waiting for them when Miiko returned the boat. Miiko swallowed, believing that Jaren had surely told on them. "Athena's awake," Gavin said, his expression softening when he saw that the two girls were alright. "She is?" Miiko scrambled out of the boat, "What are we waiting here for? Come on! Come on, come on!" Miiko grabbed Rose's hand and ran towards the staircase. She was winded by the time they reached the top, but still going strong.. "We have to... we've gotta-" Miiko stopped and knelt over, clutching her side. "We've gotta get there before she falls asleep again!" The pinkette was a bundle of nervous energy until they reached the top of the tree via the car. Callum was not with Gavin, leading Miiko to believe that Gavin had left the bullet back in his room.

Her Mom was waiting for her in the doorway, supported by her Dad. "Mommy!" Miiko cried, running into the arms of Athena, who knelt down to embrace her. "Not too hard Miiko," Jace warned worriedly, fretting over his little family. "Mommy, guess what? I'm going on a mission! Rose and I are gonna bring Stella home!" Athena smiled gently, ruffling Miiko's hair in a way that only a Mother could perform. "Of course you are Miiko, come inside girls, it's going to snow soon." Did Athena not believe her? Did she not believe in Miiko's ability to bring her big sister home? Miiko did not question it, she followed her Mother inside, beckoning to Rose to come inside with her. "Mommy, Rose is teaching me how to fight. She says I'm not good at it though." Athena sent an unreadable expression in the direction of Rose, unease perhaps, it was clear that she didn't want Miiko involved in dangerous things. "Miiko, a little birdie told me you've been running around with something that doesn't belong to you," Jace began and Miiko swallowed, prepared to receive a lecture.

Yui lay curled up on the floor, clutching her stomach. Stella's nose was bleeding, there was a large bruise over her eye and a cut above her right brow. "I-I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," Yui whimpered, looking up. Stella dabbed at her bloody nose with a paper towel. "It's not you," her nose was definitely broken. "I didn't want those bastards taking you," they had taken Yui despite Stella's efforts, but Yui wasn't going to point this out. "What do they do to you in there anyhow? You're not injured, no bruises or lacerations, are they just pulling you out to ask you questions?" Yui looked away, clearly uncomfortable. "Sometimes," she said, her voice near silent. "Sometimes they ask me questions, other times L wants to test the extent of my ability. He hates light bearers, even though-" the outer door opened with a creak, interrupting their conversation. "Hate to intrude, but it's dinner time."

Ah, that logic wasn't going to work on Rose! "If you think tackling someone will let you win a real fight, I'm so very sorry, but you're mistaken, Mimi." A tackle was in the end, just a tackle, and this wasn't even that, but a hug. Of course Prisca had to feel unsettled, however. Her whole career as a light bearer has been fighting against trained opponents that knew how to observe your enemy and plan around that. So for someone untrained like Miiko, it was frightening to learn that her ability was useless in fighting someone like that. "Um, my parents..." Her parents were a large part of why Rose had made the final decision to rat out Callum. If it wasn't for watching Father being taken away, and seeing the demented smile on Mama's face, the utter euphoria she had of winning at last, was it really a surprise she ended up doing what she did? "W-well, they're dead, so it doesn't matter."

It was a rush to get back up to the top of the World Tree in time to beat the snow. Gavin was likely letting Callum rest, Jellyfish was probably back down in the clinic with Daisy and it wasn't a stretch to figure that Sanaa and Kennan were there as well. This left Miiko and Rose to go and meet up with Jace, who was waiting, and Athena too was there. Neither of them seemed to take Miiko seriously, they were merely humoring her, really. Even after she succeeded at Aurum they weren't respecting her as a rebel. Maybe it made sense - they lost Stella, why risk Miiko too? But as the Spirit of her Caster, this was almost like an insult. "As her Spirit, i-it's my job to tend to Miiko's wishes." Rose fumbled, wishing her battle mode didn't disappear all the time.

If only she could be as strong as that version of her, if only she could bury her real self deep down, far away from the surface so no one could see the pitiful true Prisca.

And so the lecture began, and it took everything Prisca had to not cry halfway through. She hated herself, she hated how timid she was, she hated how easy it was to intimidate and frighten her, and as she was put back into the plastic rose and sent back to her personal purgatory until Miiko saw fit to summon her tomorrow morning, she would continue to hate herself and wonder why she was brought back, wonder why she never did anything right. One way or another, everything Prisca did ended up a failure.

It was the middle of the night when the Red Fleet came to Yavin, with a very specific intent. "Annie, you know what to do." Varus spoke with an eager grin. His red haired spirit nodded and waved her arm. "Ghost Fleet, rise!" And so they did, ghosts of ships rose up from beneath the water, they surrounded Yavin like an occupying force. Havran was overlooking the scene with Fox at her side, smoking a pipe of whatever substance. "I'm clever, right, coming up with this strategy?" The black haired girl asked her Spirit, who grinned mysteriously at her. "It's a good strategy, isn't it?" Fox swung his legs from the lookout post, wondering how things had changed... and yet, were so much the same. "A brilliant girl from my time did a similar strategy." He said with a wink, deciding not to tell Havran how it ended. "Jace Miya, I have a proposition to make!" Captain Varus said in a booming voice, on his mark, the Red Fleet would open fire, but only if Jace didn't come out for a meeting.

Falling asleep with the window open had become the norm for Miiko. It was something that had begun after Stella left, just in case she ever needed a way to get back inside and the front door was locked. Ever since that day, Miiko had otherwise been unable to fall asleep with the window closed, no matter how much the temperature dropped. She lay on her side, head on her pillow, wondering what tomorrow would bring. It was easy to fall asleep in this position, with the plastic rose beside her on the pillow. Miiko was becoming incredibly attached to Rose, as evident by the fact that she had gone to her to cry instead of her Father, who had been awaiting to receive a tearful Miiko with open arms. "Goodnight Rose," Miiko whispered, feeling as though there was an indent of a person in her bed despite the fact that the Rose made no such markings. Miiko fell fast asleep soon after, which was why it came as no surprise that she did not hear her window shimmy open.

A hand wrapped around Miiko's middle, lifting her out of bed. Miiko, whose hand was closed around the chain that her rose was connected to, unconsciously lifted it, seeming unperturbed despite the fact that she was being carried out of bed and through the window. Jace Miya was waiting right outside for the pirate, his arms crossed, his expression one of fury. Without hesitation he pulled the trigger on his gun, electricity shooting out. Jace carefully lifted Miiko off of the ground, his daughter fast asleep, and carried her back through the window. "Did you stop him?" Athena burst in through the door, beads of sweat dotting her forehead. "Yeah, I stopped him." Jace locked the window and turned around, his hands balling into fists. The fact that they had targeted Miiko was unforgivable, a strike that they would never be able to undo.

Jace had been warned of the fleet of red ships approaching from the north east at approximately 12 AM, two hours before they had landed. Little did Captain Varus know, Yavin was well prepared to handle and combat such an attack. "Had you opened discussions before attempting to attack my family I would have welcomed you with open arms!" Jace replied, arms crossed, expression stern. His silver hair glinted in the light of the full moon. "Come out of your hiding place and perhaps we can make a deal! Otherwise I am fully prepared to retaliate whatever tricks you might have up your sleeve!" Appearing from behind Jace were not only Gavin and Callum, but a full fleet of rebels armed to the teeth. They might have fancy boats and ghost ships, but Yavin was inhabited entirely by rebels whom Jace could call to his command at any moment.

"Show your face Captain Varus or you may as well leave with your tail between your legs while you still can!" Jace didn't trust the pirates, if one had made it up the world tree it meant that there could be more hiding around the island. Families had been warned, the people knew how to protect themselves. What was a leader who was unable to rely on his allies?

The plan was as follows: While they keep Jace distracted here, someone is sent to extract the little princess Miiko. Not to harm her or anything, but just to use her as a hostage. Unlike what most people thought, the Red Fleet didn't really buy and sell people - and they refrained from hurting children whenever possible - but they also knew just how protective the rebellion was of Miiko. If they managed to take the girl, she would be the perfect bargaining chip. "They killed the taker." A scout reported to Havran and Varus, much to both of their displeasure. "How barbaric, we didn't kill anyone and they take first blood." Havran muttered, clenching her fist.

Annie grinned, however, because this was where she shone. The Red Fleet had liberated cities before that were previously under Republic rule, so this was of no concern to them. "We're only here to force them to let us borrow their light bearers." Varus reminded her so that she wouldn't go overboard. "We need to make them on our team, so we can attack Capitol City and rescue everyone." Annie nodded, teeth gnashing on the leaf she was chewing on. "Drop the oil!" She shouted, and looked to Fox who jumped down from his perch with a sardonic smirk. "I suppose I burn the oil once it's close enough, huh?" That way they could light the sea itself on fire, and the Yavinese fleet would not be able to approach. At Annie's command, all the ships released quite a bit of their oil stores in barrels, flinging them out into the open sea, close to Yavin's shores. And then Fox dutifully fired bursts of flames at each one, making them explode and an inferno burned over the sea.

Jace moved Miiko's hand to touch the plastic rose and then with a flash of light, Rose appeared, completely naked and surprised because she had expected to get more sleep. "H-huh? I - uh - uhm?!" She stammered, not understanding what was going on. Jace threw a robe at her, something for modesty's sake. "There's a fight, we'll need your help." Jace said, and then that was when Rose noticed the dead pirate. Her gaze hardened with a snap, Rose was focused now, completely ignoring her lack of clothing. "I'll keep her safe, so I trust you to defend the island, boss." She wouldn't leave Miiko's side. "Can you take her to the clinic?" Athena asked, twisting to look at her daughter's Spirit. "We need someone stationed there to keep them safe."

And that was how Rose - with Miiko on her back, sleeping or otherwise - arrived at the clinic with the order to make sure no enemies could enter. Gavin and Callum were already at the front, where the main fighting was at, but Rose didn't really mind, she wasn't bloodthirsty or anything. As long as Mimi was safe, she didn't have to fight. The problem here was Jellyfish, who instead of trying to help defend, was sitting in front of the still-asleep Daisy, eyes red yet wide and unblinking, almost like if she blinked, Daisy would disappear. "Jellyfish, get some sleep, Daisy will be okay." Rose muttered but the mute shook her head and gestured at her Spirit, saying with her eyes that if she closed them and slept, Daisy would never come back.

The Red Fleet had shot themselves in the foot with this one. Did they really think that Jace Miya would be open to debate after an attempted kidnapping of his daughter? "Show your face Varus! Or are you too much of a coward?" Perhaps Varus needed to send people to do his dirty work for him? Jace lifted his gun, leveling it with the outline of something moving on the horizon. Not one of his soldiers, no, Jace knew the outline of most of his rebels. "Gavin, Callum, go check that out." He ordered in a near silent whisper, the two of them setting off towards the figure that was scaling the rocks. "Jace," Athena hugged her arms, her thin coat doing nothing to protect her from the cold. "Go lie down Athena," Jace replied, tucking his gun into his waist band. He needed to work, he couldn't have Athena out here in the open, where she was vulnerable. "I want to help sweetie, I'm just as much a part of this rebellion as you are."

Jace had seen this coming, he knew Athena was going to want in now that she was feeling alright. "Athena, if you really want to help, then you need to stay out of the way." Athena slapped him hard across the cheek. "I'm your wife Jace! I'm not Miiko or Stella, I can hold my ground just as well as you can! Now give me the damn gun!" Jace relented, handing her his spare. Athena loaded it without hesitation and stalked off into the darkness. "Just carry a whistle or something with you! That's all I'm asking!" Athena's silhouette flipped him off. Jace sighed and turned, "that's my wife," he couldn't help but well up with pride at the thought that his wife, the one he loved most, was back in action. Was she cured? No, but Sanaa had done something with acupuncture that not only had woken Athena up, but made a vast majority of the symptoms seemingly disappear. If she was well enough to fight with him then she was well enough to use her rage against whoever they were up against.

With Rose looking after Miiko, Jace knew that he could focus his full attention on the boats surrounding the island. He could see the black oil oozing in the water, could feel the heat of the flames. Yavin was not going to burn, not while it was under Jace's jurisdiction. He pulled out a walkie talkie, the most advanced piece of technology Yavin had to offer and spoke into it. "Emergency evasive maneuver number four, counter attack number three." He waited a moment, a crackling coming in from the other side. "On it," if Captain Varus was going to put out his best power play, then Jace was too.

Downstairs, Miiko was just waking up. It was incredible to think that she had managed to sleep through the entire ordeal and was only just rousing, rubbing at her eyes and wondering how the heck she had gotten here. "Rose?" Miiko asked, slightly panicked. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and slipped off, bare feet padding across the roughly tiled floor. Miiko pushed past the curtain, finding Daisy laying still as a corpse with Jellyfish watching over her. Standing at the edge of the bed, awkwardly patting Jellyfish's back was her spirit, Rose. "There you are, what are we doing down here? Why am I still in my pajamas?"

The Yavinese fleet was coming in, scorched and yet they were doing their best to try to put out the oil fire, with sheets to smother and suffocate the fire as much as they could, while having a front line protecting the fire stopping ships with their heavy armor. So this was how they wanted to play, huh? Varus could play with that, he definitely could. Crossing blades with Jace like this, it felt so nostalgic, it reminded him of the good old days, back when he was a Yavinese, when they worked together to make the Rebellion succeed in it's early days. But then for a tumultuous battle in trying to protect Ondern from a Republic invasion, his strategy was what lead to Stella being captured. It was very tense - either rescue Stella and abandon Ondern, or leave Stella to her fate and rescue the city.

Jace was stuck between his duties as a father and his responsibility as a leader. In the end he was frozen, so Varus did what had to be done, and let Stella be taken, resulting in Ondern's continuing independence from L's rule. But because of this, Jace could never forgive him and he was exiled - and thus, he gave birth to the Red Fleet, to fulfill his vow to defeat L however he could, with or without Jace and the Rebellion. "We met after you were already exiled." Annie commented with a snide grin as the sea war continued. "I hope this Jace is as good as you say he is, Caster." She was most definitely looking forward to a good fight. "We're close enough to send boarding parties to shore now." Little Havran reported. "Fox will protect me, so I can go, right?" Varus nodded, grinning proudly at his second in command. "Hit them so hard they don't even know what happened!"

Jellyfish really wasn't handling this well whatsoever. Daisy wasn't as pale as before but she still hadn't woken up yet. "She'll be fine." Sanaa repeated with a slight frown. "Daisy isn't in critical condition anymore, okay?" Meanwhile Kennan was being a brat, jumping around the room, looking out the window. "The Red Fleet!" He yelped, grabbing Sanaa's attention. "I want to fight! Let's go fight, we'll beat the crap out of them, we'll be so cool!" Sanaa gave him an almost disappointed stare, you'd be very hard pressed to believe that Sanaa was the twin born second. "Our orders are to stay here and protect the sick and injured, Ken, we're needed here."

"But it's so boring!" Kennan wailed, every bone in his body was itching to go and kick butt. Rose knew though, the twins were going to need training if they wanted to be of any use in a fight. They never actually fought anyone before, they didn't have what it took, living a life reading books and doing research wasn't how to be strong. "Jace told us to guard the clinic." Rose said, gripping her rapier tightly. "The Red Fleet is attacking, and he doesn't want us on the front line because-" Kennan suddenly grabbed Miiko by the arm. "Hey! Isn't it boring to stay here away from the action?" He was prodding the princess with his eagerness. "If you go fight, then your Spirit has to follow! And then Sanaa and I have to come, to help guard you guys! Please, it'll be so cool!" Rose shot him a frigid glare. "Please don't give my Caster silly ideas, no one can protect the clinic if we leave."

Jace was armed to the teeth. While it certainly didn't look it, he had two knives, one sword, four guns, and a machete on his person. Over the years you learned to hide these things well and Jace hardly looked like the type to carry about weapons. On the outside he had the appearance of a good in nature, slightly trendy man that was in good shape. He was handsome, yes, but otherwise unassuming and forgettable, which was just the look you needed to blend in. Athena on the other hand, was stunning. Her looks were almost otherworldly and no matter where she went, people starred. From her glittering brown hair to her two mismatched eyes, one a deep sapphire, the other close to emerald, and those lips! Jace shook his head, he couldn't think about how kissable those lips were right now, he had to focus on the task at hand, that task being taking down Varus before he kidnapped Miiko for whatever plot he had.

Of course Jace knew exactly who Varus was, how could he ever forget his second in command that had allowed his daughter to be taken by L's forces? A father never forgets the face of a man who steals his baby from him, much less when that face is that of his former best friend. What did the traitor want now? To take Jace's other child away? He would not let such a thing come to pass. Had Varus learned that Miiko was a light bearer? Did he know about the plastic rose that his little pinkette had claimed for herself? Miiko always was grabby, it shouldn't have come as any surprise to her parents that one day the item she picked up would be enchanted by the Light Goddess. They just hadn't expected it to be that item. Jace walked down the mountain side, his breath fogging in the darkness. He could see Varus's buoy that was making its way from ship to shore. Jace would be here, ready to face his enemy when that time came.

In the meanwhile Athena was on the other side, assisting in dismantling the ghost ships. It was hard to kill something that was already dead and majority of the rebellion members jumped in front or tried to take hits from her. Athena was of course frustrated but also touched by the sentiment and the fact that they cared. "Let's regroup!" It was clear that they needed a new method, the ghost ships weren't going away no matter how many holes they poked into the mast. "We need a new plan of attack, I think the person controlling the ghosts is on one of the ships full of live sailors." Athena mused, melodic voice nearly enchanting all those who heard it. She paced the ground, her cheeks flushed pink from the wind, her hair a mess from having been awoken in the middle of the night.

Miiko, on the other hand, was ready to fight. She was bouncing on her heels, knowing that she had an important job. "If Mommy and Daddy want us to stay here and protect the medical clinic then we'll stay!" Miiko declared in a huff. "They entrusted this job to me and Rose! So we're not going anywhere!" Miiko crossed her arms, "It is a little boring though, but I'm sure once the battle picks up we'll have plenty of people to fight, so just hold steady until the time is ripe! Part of being a rebel is knowing when to lay down and wait!" Miiko nodded as though she were a genius.

"A pesky rat is taking out my ghost ships." Annie said thoughtfully, glancing at her Master. "The one leading those rats definitely looks special, her eyes are different colors and her hair is mesmerizing." The pirate noted, which of course, was surprising for Varus, who looked up. "Wait, you're describing Athena." He said suddenly, and Annie too, looked surprised, but only for a moment, before she smirked. "Oh, that explains it. We're going to have to deal with this problem directly." Luckily the small dinghy Havran and Fox were on was already on it's way to Athena's location. Varus cracked his knuckles, pulling out his cutlass eagerly. "The little one can handle her. We've gotta take on Jace, head to head!" Oh, he always was this type of person, a romantic, finding excitement in big meaningful battles like this, where leaders face off against each other, even if it wasn't necessarily the best strategy.

So the main boat of the Red Fleet careened straight on, Annie summoned a ghost ship right in front of the flagship to ram into the Yavinese fleet to clear a path to where Jace was no doubt waiting. And then there was a strange sight, one of their pirates was launched high into the air with a punch, two light bearers were there, guarding their leader, Callum and Gavin. "Hah, they're just like ragdolls!" Callum sneered, dashing forward to charge up another rocket punch, sending another pirate flying. So Varus fixed the angle on his necklace full of gold treasure, and light flashed off of it, directly into Callum's eyes, blinding him temporarily. "Jace!" Varus pulled out his cutlass and jumped onto shore, ignoring the fact that his Spirit's ability only worked over the water. "Let's have a duel, man to man!"

The Red Fleet's second in command was on the other side of the island by now. They needed to extract Miiko to put an end to this fight because the more they wasted lives here, the less power they'd have overall when it was time to fight L at Capitol City. Everyone was being stupid, why couldn't Miiko have just peacefully been kidnapped? It wasn't like they were going to hurt her or anything! "My, this is so nostalgic." Fox laughed quietly as they infiltrated the island, headed directly for Athena's position. As long as Havran continued to touch her enemies and give them hallucinations to make them unable to fight, they could land the perfect sneak attack. There was Athena, and Havran crept up behind her, reaching to touch her elbow and inject her with hallucinations of Stella's corpse.

No matter how much Kennan pleaded, Miiko wasn't going to budge, she was more loyal to her parents than she was to her whim to have fun, thankfully. Jellyfish looked at her fellow loli and gave a relieved nod then returned to her duty of staring at Daisy. That was when Rose suddenly had a very, very bad feeling rise in her chest. "Be on guard!" Her eyes focused, and then saw the grenade flying in through the window. But in the other window, a bullet, it was going to hit Miiko directly. Rose didn't have time to think - she moved, kicking the grenade out and then she jumped, trying to swung her rapier to deflect the bullet. But because of the rush, she messed up her aim and the bullet went into her shoulder, knocking her back into Miiko.

Miiko wasn't sure what she was thinking when Rose got shot, all Miiko knew was that she wanted Rose to stay. Rose couldn't leave her, Rose couldn't abandon her. She didn't want to lose Rose the same way she had lost Stella. "No!" Miiko screamed, catching Rose before she could hit the ground. Miiko eased her partner down, panting slightly due to the fact that Rose was nearly twice her size. Sanaa came over immediately and began to apply pressure to the wound. Kennan in the meanwhile lifted up the grenade and tossed it out the window to evade that disaster from happening. "Rose, please, stay with me. Don't disappear," Miiko whispered, clearly frightened. She imagined herself like Jellyfish, stationed over a stationary Rose, who had lost too much blood and was probably not going to wake up. Would Daisy ever open her eyes? If Rose fell into a sleep like that, would she become the Sleeping Beauty?

"Don't worry Miiko, I'm going to take care of her. Kennan!" Kennan came over, assisting Sanaa in moving the injured Rose. They placed her on a bed beside Daisy and moved her behind the curtain in order to remove the bullet and stitch up the wound. "Close the window!" Kennan ordered and Miiko went to the front of the slightly dilapidated building, slamming both windows shut. "Jellyfish, we have to stand guard!" Miiko spoke in a most determined voice, doing her best not to cry. This was her fault, she wasn't sure how, but it was. Now Rose was going to leave her, because Miiko was an awful caster and hadn't been able to protect her spirit. Miiko was never going to live it down. No one else would either, she was certain of it. "Please don't leave me all alone Rose." Miiko whispered, clutching the hilt of her knife. "I need you."

Jace was now standing face to face with his old friend, Captain Varus. If the Captain hadn't stabbed him in the back, they would still be close. Now, they squared off as enemies. "So, you let the rebellion down, then you dare to show your dirty face on the island. Getting a bit big for your britches, ain't you?" Jace spoke in a low growl, his tone casual, but not enough to mistake it for that of friendliness. No, his inflection was cold indifference. Varus coming here would have no effect on the rebellion, they would either sink or flee. Varus probably knew the measures that Jace took to arm himself, he was no stranger to the rebellion Leader's methods. "A duel?" Jace laughed, "we're not children Varus. Look around! You've started a war by coming here! I should have known you would have come back, because taking the one daughter just wasn't enough!" Jace drew one of his swords, "there's a reason you were exiled."

Athena was quick to dodge. She had seen the little brat coming from a mile away and ducked underneath the needle, pushing her hand up to grip the wrist of the near assailant and knock the weapon out. Athena crushed the vial underfoot, her expression reflecting an non approving Mother who was disappointed in their child. "Look at you so young, what are you doing? Running around with these pirates?" If they were a member of the Red Fleet, then it mattered not what appearance they took. After all, appearances could be deceiving, take Miiko for example. Almost sixteen and still cute as a button. This child, however, was not. She was dirty, with black hair and snarky expression, as though she thought herself to be something clever.
