History

"The past is exactly that - the past."

There is a legend of Dragons, stating that they may choose to take human form for a short period of time if their desire is great enough. Kael's father was a dragon who excelled in casting illusions and mind spells, while her mother was a rookie dragon hunter. Her father did not want to kill such a pretty thing and kept her in his lair for a time until one night he desired the human form. He mated with the woman and she killed him while he slept using Dragon toxin she had been keeping hidden. Nine months later she had Kael and ran from the humans to live in hiding. Kael grew fast, quickly becoming stronger than her mother and showing the ability to shift between human and dragon form from an early age.

Whenever Kael entered her dragon form she would be stronger and faster but when she eventually did transform back she would sleep for days at a time, recovering the strength it took to hold the form. Kaels mother was frightened of her child and of the other dragons that would no doubt come to find her. When Kael was 11 and started hunting for larger prey Kaels mother attempted to kill her own daughter. Kael defended herself and ended up killing her instead. Realizing that humans would always kill Dragons and their kin she grew a deep hatred for them.

This started her killing spree. She entered into her Dragon form and began killing off as many humans as she could find. This didn't last very long as where she was killing them was close to a valley of many high dragons. They used their magic together to seal away the young hybrids Dragon form and half her magical power, saying she could only have it back when she learned her Dragon name. Leaving her with this they relocated. Kael made it her goal to find the dragons to convince them to release their seal, and to discover her Dragon name. She does not know how.

Shortly after she was cursed Kael met a large black High Dragon by the name of Screthin. He taught her how to control her rage, how to hide among the humans and how to train to get stronger. He gave her a book full of Dragon spells and studies on different kinds of magics, poisons and cultures. He trained her and cared for her for 6 years before he tested her by having her survive on her own for a year and a half. She passed with flying colours and Screthin determined it was time for her to start on her quest. The day she turned 19 he sent her to a village that was in need of help and there she met Malik. Something about the winged man made her feel like she could trust him and she accepted his proposal to go kill a demon with the group. She also met another half Dragon but has lost contact with her since the demon was slain.

After the demon was killed Kael smelled something familiar and ran to a clearing. There her mentor dropped to the ground, injured and dying, and told her demons had attacked him and were going after the High Dragons. He told her to eat his heart as she would gain all his magic powers and abilities. Crying and cursing the gods, Kael obeyed his last request and became stronger. She then decided that she needed to find out the source of the demons coming back to the world and stop whoever was responsible for it. She went back to the inn and met Valera, Cruth, and Sir Blue.

At first she hated Blue, as she knew his scent to be that from a Dragon Slayers family. But slowly Blue showed her he was different and it got to the point where not only did Kael trust Malik and Blue with her life, but she also felt a very strong desire to protect the both of them.

A necromancer is responsible for raising demons from the grave and for summoning more into the world, for some reason he wishes to use Kael. She suspects it has something to do with the poison she carries, and that he may be plotting to kill the Queen Dragon. She vows to stop him and to reawaken the High Dragons.

Blue relaxed on Coon’s back as they flew to Ebar, taking in the sights. He always liked flying, it made him bask in a sense of freedom he didn’t normally feel that he had. Flying reminded him of the times he spent with his brother. He would get excited whenever his brother would invite him to go into town with him. It was too far away to walk and much easier to fly on a gryphon. His brother often flew in just to get him so they could fly back to town together. Adam always wanted him to help in the forge, and Blue happily obliged. He would spend days with his brother the blacksmith, learning how to make high quality swords. Blue was a fairly decent blacksmith, being able to craft basic weapons and equipment with ease. His skills never grew anywhere near that of his brother, the famous Adam Adavahr, but he could repair and rebuild some of Adam’s highest quality creations. Adam has made many masterpieces that are used to this day by well known men and women everywhere. His weapons were famous for there durability and functionality, which means they were created with only the finest and most expensive materials.

Blue smiled as he remembered all the time he had spent with his older brother in his forge and all the happy go lucky trouble they would get into. He hardly even noticed how far they were into the flight, when he saw the smoke in the distance. He took a better look and scanned the horizon. Over the tree line to the west, he saw smoke rise in huge plumes. He realized the smoke was coming from the small fishing village of Acirema, which he had taken shelter at only three nights ago. He looked closely and saw no movement, everyone seeming to be dead or gone, except for the burning of large fires spread across the town that were in the process of going out of control. Blue wasn't sure what was the cause of this, or what could have destroyed this peaceful village, for this town was close to Ebar, which was protected by a powerful army. He yelled out to the group and pointed to the smoke in the distance, they slowly took notice as to what he was concerned about.

Blue thought about landing in the village. He knew that they were in a hurry and the village under them seemed deserted. He wasn't sure weather anyone else wanted to investigate, but he didn't. He could tell what events took place there and, somehow they still transpired even though the village was under the protection of the city.

He turned back to Kael and yelled loudly so as she could hear, " No, we are in a hurry, we will inform the guard once we get to Ebar, if they do not know already."

As he said this he encouraged the rest of the group to increase pace. He wanted to hurry to Ebar so he could get help for the village that kindly took him in. The group made Ebar in less then an hour at that pace. As they flew over the city, Blue could see hundreds of elf guards on the walls, in their light armor, with bows in hand. Effective warriors to defend the city from attack, each one well trained and battle hardened. Blue noticed that there were too many soldiers, almost like Ebar increased their guard recently to defend from attacks. They must be getting attacked by these demons he kept hearing about, unless they are defending the city from some other attack.

Once they flew over the wall everything seemed pretty much the same. The city was bustling with life, people walking around without a care in the world. He waited to see where Malik would want to land the mounts, and then he would quickly go inform the guards about the small fishing village they flew over, and the status of the cities defenses.

Malik looked around a bit to find a safe place to land " there !! " the stated " lets land right there " He pointed down to the place. Malik was the first to land and he quickly moved out of everyones way " We'll staned the mount away before we make are move.. dont worry they'll be back" Malik looked around some more " now the Library is this way " he pointed to the right " and the guard tower closest to us is over there " he pointed to the right " now we should inform the guards first and then to the library to get Kael some fresh close and are infomation we need... sound like a plan? "Right." Blue said as he gave Coon a rub goodbye. "But we should split up to get all three tasks done at once. I will head to the guard tower. Kael will go to the market stall to replace her tarnished cloak, she can choose who to take with if she so chooses. Malik you can head to the library with the two others, you will need the time and manpower to find the books you need. I believe that is most important and we don't have time to head to all these places together.

We will all meet up at Ravencroft Library once we are done with our business and figure out what we must do when we get there. I'll inform you of my findings once we meet back up and we can come up with a plan."

Blue then walks up to Kael. " I'll have to answer your questions later if that is ok with you?"

He looks to Malik to accept or deny the modified plan.

"Sounds alright" says Cruth. He was really confused and scared of this city. Some people walked by and looked at him strangely. All he was thinking about was finding his murderer of his mother. He then looks at this Malik an awaits for agreement with this plan.

Kael nodded in agreement and turned to the elf woman Valera.

"Would you like to come to the market with me? I'm sure there will be some interesting stalls to buy from and we can listen in to any gossip we hear about these demons or the royalty." She waited for a response before leaving and turned to Blue for a moment to give the other girl a minute to think. She must be slightly overwhelmed at the large city they were nowin. "You see what you can find out as wll knight. As well as finding out if any High Dragons have been spotted recently." She smiled kindly "these demons threaten my kind in ways we didnt expect and I'm going to need all the information I can get. Do this and you'll have my trust and any answers you seek from me. Or a dinner if that sort of thing pleases you. Whatever price you wish for helping me is yours. "

At that she turned back to Valera and waited.

She dismounted Ton-Bar and stroked his fur gently and spoke to it. "Thank you for the Safe journey," She turned to Kael who asked her to accompany her to the markets, she thought for a while. It might be a chance to see if anyone still knows the name of Nightingale... She would smile at Kael and nod. "That would be nice, Now. Which way?" She pointed to her left leading downwards and then to her right leading upwards. "Perhaps Right would be the most suitable?" Valera fixed her hair while wondering about both paths.

Kael smiled at Valera and waited until everyone had walked away before looking around. The market was always the busiest area in cities such as these and she closed her eyes to sense wher the majority of the sould were gathered. Valera had been right about the direction and they headed that way, reaching the bustling marketplace in no time at all. She turned to the elf woman, hoping to keep her from getting too overwhelmed at the suffocating mass of people.

"Where would you like to start my dear? We can wander around and see the many stalls for our purchases or we can just listen to conversations for a bit before buying what we need and joining the other. I'm sure someone will be talking about something of interest."

Valera grabbed Kaels hand and lead her over to a stall selling silk robes. "Ooo These are nice arent they Kael?" Being with so much people made her happy and full of life and so she was dragging Kael everywhere from stall to stall they looked at various clothing and heard many conversations but no one mentioned the name of Nightingale anywhere.

Kael was a bit shocked when her hand was grabbed but Valera seemed to be happy enough walking around in the crowd and looking at all the stalls so she allowed herself to be led around by the elf woman. They stopped outside a silk stall and Kael brushed her fingertips along the various bits of silk. There were piles of fabric and a stack of already made clothes. Silk was hard to keep clean and nearly suffocating in certain circumstances so it was not her preferred choice of fabric. Plus it was not an ideal outfit for battle nor travel... yet Kael felt the urge to buy something 'pretty' even though it would be mostly useless.

She picked up a small black dress with purple seams and asked the woman how much it was.

"Oh that thing? Pft. Four gold will do me, it was made for a customer but my apprentice made it way too small and I haven't been able to get rid of it. Bloody waste of silk it was. Try it on if you like, theres a curtain behind the stall."

She nodded and told Valera to stay there while she went behind the curtain. After discarding her ruined clothes and putting the dress on she examined herself. It was a light material, black all over with the seams a dark purple that reminded her of her scales when in Dragon form. She scoffed at her memories, in no time at all she would be able to be free of this curse. The dress came to her midthigh and was slightly lowcut but not too revealing. The sleeves were quarter length. With a nod Kael decided it would not be suitable in the long run but it would have to do until she found some other clothes. Perhaps tomorrow if Malik didn't mind, she hadn't eaten all day and would prefer it if she could have a rest in an inn or something before they had to march themselves to another fight. She walked out and paid the woman, leaving the ruined clothes behind the curtain. Saved her getting rid of them. She spun once for Valera to let her see the dress and allowed the Elf to lead her around the rest of the market. She heard a few interesting bits of gossip, things that she would tell the group about later, but nothing that required immediate attention.

Turning to Valera after the sun was positioned to show late afternoon she let her eyes turn a tired blue and smiled at the woman. "Do you require any other things from the market or would you like to find the others and get a meal and some rest?"

Blue walked out of the building, closing the loud wooden door behind him. Closing his eyes, he breathed in the fresh air as he stepped outside. He always enjoyed training or a good fight over asking questions or diplomatic missions. He opened his eyes and started down the marble stairs at a fair pace. He wanted to hurry to the library to tell the group the news. He knew Malik would be a bit disappointed that he didn't learn anything about the shadow beasts, but he also looked forward to telling Kael about the information he received about the dragon.

Blue walked from street to street, looking around at the busy city. He had not been to Ebar in many years, and the town had livened up since then. The elf guards were more numerous, and the merchants seemed wealthy and happy. He had entered into the merchants quarter without realizing it. As he was walking along, heading toward the library, he saw a group of people huddled around a shop. He leaned in to see what everyone was gawking at. He caught in just in time to hear the old merchant in the middle of a sentence.

"a fine item there if yhou ever did shee one." The man obviously drunk, slurring his words. He held up a small silver chest, about the size of a brick, with some kind of crest on top. He couldn't tell what it was from but it seemed familiar. He took a closer look, moving a man out of the way so he could pass. The drunk merchant took a better look at Blue and sized him up. The merchant then offered the item to Blue, for a fairly high price. As Blue looked it over, he thought about haggling it down, but instead he just handed the man the gold he requested and began to walk away.

As he walked away from the group of people someone called for him.

"Sir Knight! Might I have a moment of your time?"

Blue stopped mid stride and turned to the man. The man was human, about 5'2 and skinny wearing fine cloths with a short sword on his waste. He was at first glance someone from the upper class of the city. The man seemed to eye the box in Blue's hand with an almost hunger. He broke eye contact with the box and looked up at Blue.

The man said, " My name is Lenderman, Charles Lenderman." pausing for effect, which he didn't receive. Blue just stood there, not knowing the name. Charles didn't seem to like the fact that the knight didn't know his name. " Maybe you heard about me, I am a famous writer, known for my work on ancient blood lines. Anyway, I would like to take that off your hands." He looked again at the silver box that blue was holding tight in his left hand as his other hand went to his sword. " No need to get hasty Sir Knight, I would just like to buy it off you." he spit out quickly.

Blue was not going to sell this newly found object, especially because he didn't solve the mystery of where he knew the symbol from. He did however want to know everything he could from this so-called writer, so he asked questions.

"I may not want to sell this to you sir, but I would however like to know what this means to you. What is the symbol on the top, and where would I have seen such a symbol?"

"Oh you have a good eye Sir Knight, That box is used for holding precious jewels, or jewelry for people of a specific bloodline. It is said to hold mystic jewels to enhance magic powers. The only catch is that you have to be of a certain blood line to use this magic item."

Charles touched his finger to his chin for a moment in thought. " That box belonged to an old blood line. A very powerful family once owned the contents of that box. I believe the owner of the crest on that box was a family by the name of ... what was it."

"Nightingale!" the man yelled out, not paying attention to how loud he said it.
"It once belonged to a woman of the Nightingale family, and she was a very powerful sorceress indeed. If you do not sell that item to me, can you at least promise me it will end up in good hands. Hands that will protect its contents from harm?”

Blue let everything the small man was saying sink in. Valera would be so happy if he brought this back for her. She seemed so intent on knowing anything about her family, or bring its name back into everyone's hearts and minds.

He thanked Charles and promised to do as the man said. He left the stall area that he had now spent too much time at and headed back in the direction of the library. As he was walking he spotted Valera walking away from a stall with a woman Blue didn't recognize in tow. She held her hand as they ran toward the next stalls.

Blue called out to Valara and the two woman turned around. Blue was awestruck as he saw who the other woman was at Valera's side. It was Kael in a new black and purple dress. She looked beautiful, and blue had to look away to stop from blushing. Blue didn’t even notice his jaw was dropped until he looked away, but luckily he fixed it before he looked back up at the two women.

" Hello Valera, Kael! I trust your shopping went well?"

" I have some important information for you Kael, but I’m not sure how you will react, I think you will want to investigate, but I don't know how that will effect our mission." after he said that he quickly turned to Valera. " Before I tell you what the information is, here is something I picked up at a merchant stall. It seemed important so I bought it, and as I walked away I met a man with a most interesting story. As he told Valera about the man and everything he said, he handed her the silver box. He then left her to her exploration of the new object, and turned back to Kael to tell her of the news of the dragon he had heard about that lived north of the city."

She saw how pretty Kael was in her new dress, it was absolutely amazing, "You pick good Kael," Valera smiled at her. Hearing Kaels question she turned around to her, "No I dont believe I need anything and a nice bed does sound nice," She would laugh quietly. Suddenly she heard her name, turning around she saw Sir Blue walking towards them and noticing Kael in her new dress, Valera would laugh for a bit and be given a small silver box with the Nightingale crest on the top. "Sir Blue where did you get this?" She started to jump up and down with joy and then she remembered something her mother told her, "Your grandmother was a wonderful sorceress, it was said she had magical jewels to give her power but then one day they were stolen," The words rung in her head, she suddenly looked around and hid the box in her cloak, "It would be best if we left for the library," She whispered to Kael and Blue as she somehow felt like she was being watched.

It appeared as if the library was the next destination. Blue had brought her rumour of a Dragon and she would look into it soon.

"Well then. To the library, I am quite tired however, do you want to lead the way Sir Blue?" Turning to Valera she smiled widely "Thank you Valera, it does feel nice to no longer be covered in blood hah! This will do until I find a more suitable outfit." Kael was glad the woman had finally gotten something from her family.

Blue slowed his normal pace to match the two women at his back as he led the way through the city to the library. They passed through several markets and stalls before they left the market district. As they left Blue had the feeling they were being followed. He looked around but saw nothing out of the ordinary. He wasn't sure what it was, but he knew something or someone was following the trio. They continued walking until they could see the library, with its large pearl white columns and many painted windows. A group of people were sitting outside on the steps, reading books and talking. They walked up the stone steps and stepped into the front door. As they walked in they caught the attention of a woman sitting behind the counter and she gestured them over. As they drew near, she said in a hushed tone, " can I help you?" Blue simply explained in an equally quiet tone that they were looking for their friends and he described them to the woman. She then walked them over to the group, curtsied and left them to their studies. He stood there and waited quietly to see who would start them off.
