"How DARE you defy me?" he yelled at her. "After ALL I do for YOU, you STILL defy me!"

"I didn't think it was that big of a deal. It was just a little get together. Not a real party." She touched her cheek as she sat on the floor. She stared up at him with big eyes that were brimming with tears. She placed one of her small hands on her cheek. It wasn't the first time he had hit her, and it wasn't going to be the last. She winced at the thought.
"Can we...just go home?"

She turned to look at him again. He looked so angry, but he was cute when he was mad. His eyes got those blueish color and his cheeks flushed a little red. She wanted to kiss him, but she was a little frightened to get close to him. After all, her cheek was a constant reminder of that. What was she going to tell her mom?

She placed a small hand on his arm and sighed. "I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. You're right." He had driven her home. He could have left her at the party. She ignored his threat because he'd never actually make her. At least, she hoped he wouldn't. After all, this was her Alex. The Alex that talked to her the first day of school, who was her first kiss, who was her first love. This was her Alex. He would never hurt her. She ignored her throbbing mouth.
"Babe...."

Alex took two fingers and patted his right cheek. "It's not so hard, is it?" he said slyly. "Prove to me that cha love me." he said, his normal, sickening-sweet honey dripping voice returning.

She restricted a sigh, and she leaned forward. She brushed her lips across his cheek up to his ear. She smiled. "I love you too," she whispered in his ear. He always loved when she whispered in his ear. Always. But that was before. Before he hit her. Before somewhere inside, she was terrified of him. Before he changed. She mentally slapped herself.
No, this was still her Alex. It had to be.

Alex couldn't control himself anymore. He locked his lips with hers, and without skipping a beat he cupped his hands on her cheeks. The same cheeks he had slapped in numerous occasions. The irony present wasindeed noticeable, even by him. He knew she would eventually forgive him.

She finally broke off the kiss, but she didn't move from her spot. "I have to go," she whispered on his lips. "I need to go talk to, nevermind." She wouldn't say her best friend's name. Alex would explode. He somehow got it in his head that every time she saw her best friend, she cheated on him. "I just have to go."

She only stopped because she was waiting for an apology. "Sometimes, Alex, I don't get why I put up with this. You never even say you're sorry." This was the first time she ever spoke up for herself. She was so nervous that she began shaking and crying. Then, she got out of the car and slammed the door. She walked a few steps away and then took a few deep breaths. She hoped nothing would happen while she tried to calm herself.

She walked over to his house, knowing that she looked like a mess. Her cheek was red, her make-up was running, and her eyes were bloodshot. Not to mention, a bruise was forming, in the shape of fingers, from where he had grabbed her to pull her from the party. She looked at her arm and she felt ashamed of herself. She went to the party and caused this.
It was her fault.
She made it to Jae's front door and noticed that his parent's car was gone. Thank goodness. She rang the doorbell and waited. She bit her tongue. She refused to cry. At least, not while standing on Jae's doorstep. She glanced behind her, checking to make sure Alex didn't come back. "Come on..." she muttered.

The stairs stretched out before him, it seemed. He was at the gym all day and had worked himself to the bone. He was in dire need of a shower. One step after another, he climbed. The bathroom growing closer with every antagonizing step. He had just gotten the faucet turned on when he heard the doorbell ring. "God, dammit." he muttered.
He wrapped the towel around his waist and climbed his way back down the dreadful stairs. He opened the door to a teary eyed Hazel. The mark on her cheek catching his eye and the make-up sliding down her cheeks unbearable. "What the hell happened to you this time? Was it that ass again? I swear Hazel, I don't understand what you see in him! Come in." he sighed, walking ahead of her and treading into the kitchen. He reached up into one of the cabinets, his towel falling around his ankles. "Oh lord, my bad." he laughed.

She calmed herself a little, and glanced up to see him grabbing two cups out of the cabinet. She was fortunate enough to witness the slip of a towel. "Oh my goodness," she cried. She jumped out her chair and ran into the living room. "I didn't see ANYTHING," she hollered. She blinked, recollecting on what she just witnessed. Oh, fuck.

He kissed her forehead then. It was something he did rarely, but knew showed true compassion towards her. He wanted Hazel to know he cared. He would never let her down, and whether she knew that or not, she still ought to some how. It wasn't like he was hiding his feelings in any way or shape possible. He had nothing to hide. He wanted her to know he loved her, but when it came down to actually saying it, that's when he cluttered into his tiny shell and hid. He could show it, but couldn't say it. But in his opinion, that's how it was with every male.

When he kissed her forehead, she sighed. He was making an effort to make her feel better, but it wasn't working. She felt terrible. Her entire body was in pain and she felt terrible on the inside. Sighing, she looked back up at him. Her hazel eyes brimmed with tears again. She was in so much pain, she could barely think. She wanted to see Alex, talk to him, and make sure it was all okay with them.
If it would ever be okay with them again.

The feeling that filled his gut was horrible. He could physically see the pain she was in and now he felt like he was making it worse. He had yelled at her. Jae had actually yelled at Hazel! He couldn't believe himself.
"Hazel, I give you permission to slap me... If that makes you feel any better. Any better at all!"

Then, he told her to slap him. She shook her head. "No, I couldn't. I'm...I'm okay. I'm fine. It doesn't even hurt." She looked up at him, forcing a smile that didn't read through her eyes. "Can you..promise me something?" She didn't wait for him to answer. She just continued on, "Don't tell my mom, please." She was desperate.

He wanted her to smile, but looking at her, he could see all the bruises she wore. They were ugly and reminders that Alex was in control and uncontrollable. But he promised he wouldn't hurt him. Jae couldn't possibly break that. "Hazel? You promise me, this time. Don't tell me it doesn't hurt when I know it does. I hate it when you lie to me." he croaked. His voice became insanely dry at that moment, causing his words to crack in places they weren't meant to. Tears rimmed his own eyes.
"I promise I won't tell your mom either." Just as he says this, the phone rings. "Speaking of moms," he said, looking down at the caller I.D., "you need to leave. Call me in the morning, okay?"
He waited for her to nod and walked her out the front door. "Dammit, I'm still in my towel!" he shook his head and headed back up to the shower.
