For questions beyond what can be found here, direct yourself to the OOC, my PM box, or, if convenient and logical, my character. The bookstore will serve as the main info/plot dump.
Obviously these aren't you're typical "all humans must die" monsters. Most of the typical lore applies, but there are notable exceptions. With the added bonus of civility and manners.
WEREWOLVES
Change during full moon and the day before and after.
Extra large wolves. Think biggest dog in the world.
First change is difficult and painful, beyond that is easy going.
Very often stoners.
Eat a lot of red meat.
Very cuddly and tactile.
VAMPIRES
Don't usually like to be touched by strangers.
Can go out in sun, but need 50+ spf sunscreen.
Drink coconut milk in lieu of blood. Might have bagged blood for special/ritualistic occasions.
WITCHES/WIZARDS
Have one specialty that doesn't require a wand and is usually rare, e.g. transportation, empathy
Brew potions and cast spells.
Usually very spiritual
I will add more species, roles, and/or story arcs upon request. These are just the baseline.
Feel free to add information or pictures or gifs. Reserve in OOC. I will not reserve your character if you reserve via PM. You can state your face claim up front, but it is not necessary.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 7 authors
June 10th, 10:00 a.m.
The town of Orchard Valley was unusually awake at the moment, everyone bustling to prepare for the Summer Moon Festival that would start at noon. Shopkeepers and artists were setting up display booths, and restaurant owners had called in more help than usual to get ready for this day. Until six o'clock, tourists and townspeople would visit booths to learn about the latest in silver detection, magical aids, coconut water cocktails, and other supernatural crafts and inventions. At eight, everyone would gather in Plum Square, aptly named as it was plum in the center of Orchard Valley, for the dance. At mifnight, the dance would end, and tipsy townspeople would stumble on home while buzzed tourists would trip their way to their hotels. That's how it happened every year, and there was no indication that it would be different this year.
Nothing except the new family. They would be the first humans in attendance. But it was no matter. Everything would go on as it always had.
Ari Byron stretched his muscles from his place in the sun. He had fallen asleep on the window nook in the Owl Barn very soon after he had dragged himself down to the shop at six a.m. that morning to prepare for the festival. A lot of good that had done him. He jumped of the nook as a cat, which was his favorite animal to nap as, and landed on the ground as a human. Stretching again, he yawned hugely and started his way to the storeroom. He had no idea what Perry wanted for their booth this year, but it wouldn't hurt to see what new things they had and get a cup of coffee. Just as he was about to pass through the storeroom door, the back door's handle jiggled, and the door swung open.
Not enough sunscreen... Belinda added yet another coat of sunscreen as she delayed her leave from the apartment. Usually this wasn't a problem, only she had decided to 'dress modern' which meant to her form-fitting shorts, a t shirt, simple greek sandals. Nothing extremely out there, except she was certain that 1) she was poorly dressed, 2)she looked ridiculous, and 3) not enough sunscreen.
She reasoned she had to learn. Maybe getting laughed at would be good for her, allow her to gain experience in the dress fashionably department. And be aroundYou know what, a hat would be fantastic. She plopped a sun hat on her head. ...Now I look more ridiculous, but hey, now it's hard to see if they're laughing at me unless I raise my head. Ha HA!
She walked out of her room, all the way down to the lobby...
And began slowly back pedaling. You know what I can totally miss the summer moon festival after all there are lots of customers and it's not like I can wander around anyway besides I look absolutely ridiculous so I'm just gonna go back to my room-
Dana woke up that morning knowing what today was. It was the Summer moon festival. She had woken up at the normal time of eight o'clock. She got up out of bed and went to the closet grabbing a pair of pants and a top and blouse to put over top. She grabbed them and went and changed into her outfit.
She went downstairs and made breakfast. She made some oatmeal, toast and waffles. Lots for her husband and daughter to eat before the event. "Breakfast! Make sure your ready its the Summer Moon Festival!" She shouted up to her husband and daughter.
They ate breakfast in silence and had an hour to kill before her daughter Dylan left she had a question to ask. "Are you going with your friends or driving with us?" She asked looking seriously at her. After this she wanted to kill the time by finishing marking some of the exams from school. It was heading into exams and she had a lot of marking to do then.
She put on her glasses and marked and with that she ended up finishing and took off her glasses stopping and calling up the stairs. "Time to go come on!"
Izzy Bennet flounced her way to the lobby to see Belinda backing up out of it. She smiled. "No way, Bell!" she announced. "I'm not letting you out of this." She threw her arm over Belinda's shoulder and started pulling her to the doors. "You have plenty of sunscreen, I can feel it coming off on me. I won't allow you to skip another social function."
Izzy pushed her way through the double doors, hoping her friend was following. "Nice hat, by the way," she said, not looking behind her. Belinda would (hopefully) follow. Her hair bounced with every step she took, and she got more and more excited for the festival. They weren't doing a booth this year, so they would be able to simply enjoy the festivities and see what everyone else had to offer.
"We've only got a few hours to see everything, Bell, let's go!"
Dylan woke up that morning still felling exhausted she still couldn't believe they moved but whenever she tried to discuss it with her family they looked at her funny and would say "Well get over it nobody ever gets what they want." so even though she didn't want out of bed she got up looked at the clock and saw it was 7:13 a little early but thought What the hell I'll sleep when I'm dead". She went over to her desk and started typing away about her story that she told know one about and that no one knew about she kept on writing until she heard her mom call.
Dylan came down and sat at the table her mother asked her a question and answered to her mom "Uhh Mom I have no friends here but I'll walk I prefer the walk just give me some directions?" Dylan finished up breakfast and walked away saying thank you.
Dylan went back up to her room and went into her closet looking for something to wear and thought "I really shouldn't be to picky I don't know anyone there" so she picked out a top, a pair of shorts and runners and put them on. She brushed her teeth grabbed her bag and went out the door.
She was a very weak resistor most of the time. She quietly walked behind Izzy, with short, quick steps, occasionally looking up and around, sticking close to her." Um, Izzy, maybe today's not a good day for me to go out, I mean, there will be lots of people, this is more something you like...doing."

The scent of the first pot of fresh coffee in the morning always got Mason, no matter the fact that he owned a Cafe and he was the one making that first pot. Every day. He just couldn't get tired of it. Pouring himself a cup, he glanced out the door and watched as the townspeople bustled around trying to set up their booths for the Summer Moon Festival. His watch showed that it was just past 10:00 AM so that gave him another two hours to finish setting up.
He never understood why they made him put out a booth, all he does is make coffee and food. So by putting up a booth he's basically giving away his Cafe for free. One day he would say enough with this ridiculous festival; but it was a tradition, and people in this small town were all about traditions, so he said nothing. Instead, he did his duty and set up a booth, displaying the pastries and other small food items he offered accompanied by a large coffee dispenser.
Taking a sip of the coffee, he recoiled from the mug when the hot java scorched his tongue. "Hot!" Maybe that was enough coffee for right now; at least until it cooled off. Mason set his mug down and walked into the back, checking on the muffins and pastries he had slipped in the oven. After checking to see if they were done, he brought them out and arranged them nicely on different trays. Once he had lay the trays of food on a rolling cart and loaded the coffee dispenser on there as well, he walked outside to set up his dumb booth and joined in the hustle and bustle of the town.
"This is more something you like doing," Belinda said. Izzy stopped in her tracks and turned on her heels.
"Of course it is!" She replied. "But how do you expect to meet new people if you never leave the apartments? There's a whole world out there you're missing! I know it's hard sometimes, but we gotta keep trying. I don't even have to leave your side. We can go the whole day together."
This time, she grabbed Belinda's hand. "Now, she said, are you going to leave me to face the festival alone, or are you coming with me?" She gave her best pleading puppy-dog look.
Then Izzy did it. The puppy-dog look. Oh she did not like turning down the puppy-puppy-dog look, whenever she did she felt guilty for days onward. "Isobel, this is how you remind me I'm much older than you and far too soft hearted, you know I can't say no when you put it like that," she sighed. "It is only a few hours anyway..."
Dialogue Color: light sea green
Alastair had just awoken from one of the best night's sleep he's had in the past couple of weeks. He's been up late preparing for his booth for the festival, this was one of his favorite things to do every year. Many of the tourists always seemed to be interested in the town's magic and of course, just like every year he had to deal with the fact that people questioned why he owned a magic shop to begin with and he would give them the same answer every time, just because he was interested in it. There was no other way to answer it.
He fixed himself a drink, laced with a bit of blood of course before going on about the rest of his day. He dressed in his usual grey t-shirt with a black jacket covering his arms and a pair of jeans before stepping out of his home and making his way out to the magic shop, Moondance Spirits he called it those many years ago he decided to open it.
Once arriving he stepped inside and started to set up his booth just outside of his shop. Alastair couldn't wait until the festival started.
With that Dana smiled at her daughter who left. She was growing up and it was hard to come to terms with it all. She hated the idea of it all and with that she knew sooner rather then later she would be moving out and experiencing her own life.
With that she left with her husband.
When they got there she saw Dylan and said hello with a wave. Wondering if she even noticed or was pretending otherwise not to act like she knew this woman. Teenagers were harsh remembering her teenager years she wish she did it differently for her mother who died when she was sixteen of cancer.
She looked around couldn't wait for the buzz of the party and festival to begin.
Dylan was walking she couldn't remember the last time she just walked it had been so long. As she was walking she was humming a tune in her ear but she couldn't remember what song it was and eventually she knew this song was going to annoy her but she thought right now it didn't bother her.
After and short walk (which felt like a really long one) she arrived at the summer moon festival and she was pretty excited to see what was going on as she was walking she saw her mom wave at her she didn't want to be rude so she waved back and kept on walking to find the first bench that was free.
Izzy beamed. She knew Belinda would go for the puppy dog look, just as she always did.
"Great!" she announced. She grabbed her friend by the hand and pulled her through the doors, not wasting any more time. "Now, it's not important that we hit all the booths, but it's important that we hit most of them." She continued down the sidewalk to Plum Street, not looking behind her.
"There's something different every year," she said. "I know you'll have fun."
"I think everything will be new and different for me, Isobel," Belinda said softly.
~~~
They were having something. An event or something. Not that Henry cared.
They had been unpacking, and hadn't really left the new house, but now that everything was unpacked and neatly arranged in the house, Henry really couldn't figure out a new excuse to sit in the house. Especially with whatever the hell was going on outside. His dad was probably itching to go, if he hadnt already.
He reached for a key he had placed on his night stand, which he had found while he had been unpacking. It was probably silver, though it was pretty damn tarnished when he found it, but some soaking in baking soda was all it needed for polished glory. It had a rococo design, like those old timey keys. What where they called again? Skeleton keys? Was it supposed to open something?
As he ran a thread through the key, wondered why the owners had left it behind. Or why he barely knew anything of the owners. In fact he knew next to nothing of this place, they moved so suddenly.
Whatever. They would probably only stay a few months, it wasn't that great. This place.
It was an early day at the shop for Perry. She doesn't even remember if she slept, but that's probably because she hadn't. She was up through most of the night knowing she had to do a booth yet no idea on what. She spent most of her time in the shop for a reason. It was her sanctuary, her happy place, her second home. Plus, she didn't need to speak to people most of the time if she was at her shop. It wasn't that she necessarily hated, well, everyone. It's just she had a little too much fun getting under peoples skin. It was amusing to bring something up and watch them squirm. Either way, she wasn't too excited to do this. She walked around the shop, placing books here, moving a few their, trying not to spill her tea. All the while Lucifer, her black cat with orange eyes, followed her around lazily, its eyes watching her like a young child watches his/her parent. Looking at the watch that hang from her wrist, Perry sighed. She might as well start getting some of the stuff from the back.
Going into the back room, Lucifer on her heels, she began grabbing all she could. Last year, she had quite a lot on the history and action of shape-shifting, using her friend as a short of example as he turned into a cat along side Lucifer, who had given the man-turned-cat a very exasperated look, not at all amused. This year, hearing about the new human family that had came to town, she thought in passing about how she could mess with them. She has never had the best experience with humans. They just don't understand, in her opinion. A cat-like smirk crossed her features and she looked down at her cat companion, a knowing look in its eye. Grabbing all she could on simple magic and illusions, she headed out of the room only to run into Ari, almost dropping the stuff in her arms. Lucifer let out a scared cry, darting around their ankles and out of site.
"Come to help?" Perry said, her voice flat as she walked around him, still holding all the books and supplies in her arms.
Breathe in, He thought to himself, taking in a deep breath. Breathe out, He let out the breath and smiled, opening his eyes to the black silk of the inside of his night-mask. Today was a big day with whatever it was type of celebration that this town was having. He sat up, stretching his body. Carefully, he removed his mask and sat it neatly on the nightstand, aligning it perfectly in front of the clock. His smile, now in a fake-like grin on his face, stayed as he intensely stared at the clock, waiting until it flicked a number then the alarm went off, to which he promptly stopped it then stood from his bed. He went about his morning duties and ended promptly on time before looking out the blinds of the front living room of the house, eyeing someone suspiciously that walked down the sidewalk.
Going into the kitchen, he poured himself some coffee, took a sip, spit it in the sink, poured the coffee out, then got himself a glass of water. And all in only a few minutes. Then he remembered he had a son. Smiling impossibly bigger, he went up the stares to his sons room, knocking a little tone onto the door before entering. "Hey, sport! How about you come with me to see what this little celebration is all about, hmm? Maybe you could, oh, I don't know, make some...friends?" His smile was cheesy, the way he spoke sounded scripted from some sitcom. The only time he seemed to show any real emotion was when he hesitated to say friends at the thought of his son interacting with such creatures.
((OOC: Sorry for taking so long to get this up. To be honest, I didn't even know it started until I got on and saw the notification today. #Embarrassed))
He returned his attention to the key. Maybe someone knew the previous owners and knew what the key opened.
Maybe he could try to be less weird than his dad today. His dad was probably the weirdest person in the area, with his uncanny, goofy expression that seemed to be his default. As far as he knew, his expression was normal...ish. he wondered why his dad was so loopy. Was this his future?
"Sure, I'll be out in a moment." Between having to introduce myself to the people here, and thinking about....THAT, I'd pick the former.
"Come to help?" Perry asked, and without missing a beat she sidestepped him to continue on her way.
"'Come to help?'" he repeated indignantly, following her. "I've been here since six this morning, I'll have you know." He jogged a little to catch up and continued. "So what's the plan this year? Please tell me it's not shape shifting again and please tell me you've thought about it." Although their booth had been a hit last year, Ari had no desire to be the focus of everyone this year. One day was enough, and if you asked him it was a little too much.
"You know the humans are here now. Do you think they'll come?"
"Yeah, that's the point!" Izzy replied. "We gotta get you out of your comfort zone. Let you see the world. It's different now than it ever was and it ever will be."
When they made it to Plum Square, Izzy check her phone for the time. There was still quite a ways to go until the festival started, but it was still a sight to see. Vendors, shop-owners, and inventors were setting up stalls lining the sidewalks and even in the middle of the square. The ones that were lucky enough to be located in Plum Square, like the café, the magic shop, and the bookstore were set up in front of their places, which Izzy was sure would bring them many customers the next day. Tourists usually stayed at least one more day to see the town as it usually was.
Orchard Valley was a rare place, having only nonhuman residents to speak of. Of course, that had recently changed, but it hadn't been changed for long.
"Maybe we should get a booth next year," Izzy said.
"I feel a bit old that I recognize so little of this area, but of course it would seem like such a drastic change for someone who hasn't really left a small area for a little over two centuries." Her eyes suddenly fixed themselves on the cafe. She pointed," What do they serve there, Isobel?"
Also, I decided I'll make a CS for the human parent, because that will be fun to play and, if I do it right, tongue-in-cheek hilarious, especially if I use the FC of Ben Stiller.
(Especially since he's in so many movies where he looks different, he could be a disguise freak and always changing to look different since he's there to spy on the town. And his wife can be the serious one, if she's NPC)
Re: Orchard Valley
Re: Orchard Valley
@Sovryn: you certainly may reserve the Owl Barn owner! As for the parent, did you want a human or a supernatural parent? We have a possible reserve on the supernatural parent, but both human parents are for sure open.
I'm sorry, I'd do it myself, but stuff happened. Also! I live in the Pacific timezone, and though I usually check the site every 2-5 hours, I usually post at night or in the morning , so at my slowest, two posts per day.
Re: Orchard Valley
Alright. Seeing as almost all of our characters are in, I will announce that I want to start this by about Tuesday if we can. Juilii just took on another character, and BleedingLover hasn't submitted even WIP yet. So if that's impossible, that's okay, but I want to set a concrete goal. I've tried to get in contact with BleedingLover once, but they did not respond, so I may have to give that role away.
Juilii, take all the time you need! I'm really excited for this, so hopefully we can get it up and running by Tuesday.
If anyone wants the Owl Barn Owner, feel free to ask. I want to open it up to you guys first, but hopefully they just forgot to respond.
Re: Orchard Valley
@Juilii: awesome, yeah! Don't worry too much about the photo. Worst case scenario, I can put one in.
Re: Orchard Valley
edit: the computer is not kind to me at the moment, i apologize for lack of photo
Re: Orchard Valley
@Sunshine and Whiskey: yes. They are naturally nocturnal, but like humans their circadian rhythms can be altered to fit their desired schedule
