The most powerful man in the world has a son...A son he can't claim and can't protect.

Introduction

The world of Patriaelux is a unified land. The entire world marches under one banner and Anitia smiles on her children, the human race. She has gifted them with the ability to use light itself for good deeds. There are seven regions in this global nation, each one ruled by a master of one of the colors. They are known as the Spectrum. Then there is the White, both blind and unable to use light at all and yet favored by Anitia for reasons that none dare ask. Finally, there is the Prism. The ruler of all. The defacto emperor, even if it is unofficial. The only man to be able to craft all colors of the spectrum. His will is always carried out, his back is always a target, and the world watches him with a mix of fear, respect, and love. And even as the world's science continues to evolve and grow, now reaching an age of industry, the Light still guides the path. But not all is well. Hidden behind the veil of peace and tranquility, secret wars are wages, alliances are made, assassinations are attempted and some even go through. Corruption is rampant if well hidden. And the Prism. A man who is supposed to have sworn off all earthly sins has a bastard son. More importantly, he has a weakness. A weakness he needs to keep hidden and safe. He has sent his son towards the backwater town of Rekton, to keep him safe. But eyes have watched...and are on his trail.

The Light is divided into seven colors. No one choses which color they use, or how gifted they are. That is left to fate. However, once they begin to use magic, whichever color is their primary attribute, a ringed halo slowly forms in the center of their irises, matching their gifted color.

Sub-red, invisible to all and unable to be made solid or even into a liquid. Sub-red is the color of heat, and aside from superviolet, it is the rarest color to be used by mages. It has no other use than to be a source of heat. Its functionality in combat is incredibly flexible. It has many uses but none of the really practical, save if you want to attack someone. Has no smell.

Red, which is fire and explosives, can be made into a liquid or a jelly. It is highly flammable. And if condensed, it is explosive. It is incredibly stick, so it can be used as an effective foundation laying tool. Smells like coal.

Orange is semi-unstable, and kind of flammable, but not nearly as powerful as red. Orange is mainly used to defensive type magic, shields, armor coating, and is the main substitute for metal, at least in the sense of weaponry. Smells like citrus.

Yellow is very unstable and is only a liquid. When exposed to white light, it tends to re-enter the spectrum with a blinding flash. If combined with other colors...it can be very effective. Smells like morning dew.

Green is the universal construction magic. You can use it to build just about anything really. Its the most stable. Its hard to impliment into combat but its do-able. Green is wild, unpredictable, and tends to affect the mind of whoever uses it. Makes them feel chaotic. Smells like pine.

Blue is the most solid of them all. It has its uses in all fields, like a jack of all trades. It is also the main component for armor, usually combined with green. Smells like chalk.

Superviolet is invisible but solid, unlike sub-red which is the only color not able to be crafted into luxin. Being invisible, it can be used in a lot of ways. Smells like rain.

All colors, aside from sub-red, can be crafted into an either solid, liquid, or jelly like state called luxin. Depending on the color, it can be either really soft, or incredibly hard or anywhere in between. This applies to longevity, stability, and texture as well.

There are differentiating stages of power with all the colors. Most mages, or luxiants, are monochromes, meaning they can only use one color. Then their are bichromes, uncommon but not unseen. They can use two colors. Then, finally, there are polychromes. They can use three, and in cases of extreme rarity, four colors. If anyone chooses to be a polychrome, you must tell me before hand. You have to be able to see the colors you can cast, so most mages where spectacles with colored lenses. They don't work as well as the real color, but its better than nothing.

Then, there are the color wights. When light is abused and used to such an extreme, Anitia sometimes chooses to curse her ungrateful children. She shatters the halo of color in their eyes and makes it so that they can only see the color they are most skilled with. This grants them with an extreme amount of power. But at a price. Their sanity, and their bodies slowly decay, and the speed of this deterioration increases overtime. They are mistrusted, hated, sometimes hunted, and viewed as less than human.

Dazen Phyrex rubbed the grin from his eyes and tried to stretch his impossibly stiff muscles, which only resulted in bringing him pain. He groaned and wanted to just collapse. All this trouble...just because of who his Dad was? At least now he could see the town on the horizon. Yesterday, it felt like he'd never find the place and he had long ago run out of fresh water to drink. Being this close to the Golden Waste meant it was pretty hot outside, and his clothes were matted with sweat. He staggered into the town, trying not to draw too much attention. He saw a few houses, twenty at most, and what looked to be a town hall and a general store. Closer to what he guessed would be the The Bridge, he saw rising smoke. Which was probably the blacksmiths. Which meant even more walking. He needed to rest though. Needed a drink. Avoiding all indirect attempts at communication, he walked into the store...and saw it was mostly bare. He looked around at the jars of fresh water on the shelf and almost burst into tears. "Thank Anitia..." Everything about Dazen's posture and the way he carried himself made him seem weak. And the fact that his voice almost broke while he was paying for his refreshment.

Inaoro Shadows 's eyes surved the small store. His target was in sight, and he planned to keep it that way. He moved through the aisles almost like a ghost. Most of the customers didn't even give him a second glance. His eyes narrowed as they saw the older male's eyes fill with tears at the mere sight of water. Hadn't this boy ever done any survival training? Inaoro guessed not, since his client was in fact the son of the Prism. He moved ever so slightly closer to Dazen, but not close enough to be detected. He still wondered how somebody older than himself could possibly seem so...weak.

Stella Minro??a stayed in her corner, not interacting with anyone. She was sitting on a chair in a dark corner that light barely reached, her knees pulled to her chest, her arms around her legs. Meredella was perched atop another chair, watching anything, Greylan laid down next to Stella's chair, listening and smelling intently. Stella felt the breeze from outside and heard the door creak open, the weak shuffling of feet and someone ordering want faintly. She did not hear Greylann growl though, so she paid no heed to it. Absentmindedly she stroked Meredella's feathers, somehow knowing where the hawk was.

Sufferance Tural looked up from her book when she noticed a few newcomers enter the shop. She straightened up slightly and looked over each in turn for a moment. She had offered to help the shopkeeper for the day in return for a place to sleep that night. He'd accepted fairly quickly, wanting a day off and not minding someone staying for a night. She carefully marked her place in the book and made herself look as welcoming as possible, waiting for either to come over and pay.

Dazen Phyrex approached the counter with a few jars...enough to water a horse actually. He almost dropped a few, blushing under his hood from his own clumsiness. He stuttered, his voice very minute and young sounding. "I-I'd like to p-pay for these...I-I didn't see how much they were though..." He began to ruffle around inside his pockets, his hand clenching around a full danar. Was he stupid? How could he pay with a danar? This place couldn't possible exchange that much money..."Uh..." He set the money on the counter, his head down.

Inaoro Shadows shook his head and rolled his eyes. Was his charge stupid as well? If his charge wanted to make a scene, he couldn't very well stop him...but he would definitely stop anybody who wanted to hurt Dazen. He picked up a small bag of fruit and went in line behind Dazen. It made him seem less suspicious if he bought something. He pulled three dasar out of his pocket and had them waiting in his hand to pay.

Sufferance Tural smiled at the first to approach. He seemed pretty weak and...maybe a bit confused, too. He just pulled out a danar, didn't he? Woah, woah...Don't take that much, Suffie, don't take that much...She bit her lip for a moment and then returned to that peppy smile and laughed a little. "Darling, those'll be about five danarites...I can't give change for that much, unfortunately. Poor town and all that," she stated with a soft tone. He seemed pretty young...She motioned for the next customer with the fruit to just hold on a moment, giving another perky smile.

Dazen Phyrex sputtered and wished he had a small knife. "I can cut off a few...I-If's it okay for me to borrow a knife?" He gulped. He hated when people thought he was weak and he could always tell. He could feel the wild side of Green try to make its voice known in his mind but Green barely touched him at all. "I know its a lot to ask, but could I just do that?" His voice had a little resolve now and he lifted his head, his hood falling back. If anything, she'd notice the red halos in his eyes first. He sure did notice the clear rings in hers.

Inaoro Shadows shook his head and pulled out five danarites and placed them on the counter. "Here. I'll pay for his order and mine at the same time." he said, also handing her the dasars. "I'm sure that will cover the cost?" he asked coldly. His face not showing any emotion at all. 'Why oh why, did he have to get stuck with the most ignorant of people as his charges' Inaoro thought to himself.

Sufferance Tural was about to bend down to get her knife from her rucksack, it would've been no problem...But she paused when she realized the halos in her customer's eyes. She blinked a few times and then looked at the other customer, too, in a daze for a moment. Wait...Did this person have halos, too? No way...She gulped slightly and nodded. "Of course, it will. Thank you for your business, sirs," she stated, hiding away her slight nervousness. "Come again." She even forced that perky smile. Her eyes drifted to the young woman in the corner...She'd been there for a while, now...Maybe she should check on her?

Dazen Phyrex tried to smile, pulling his hood back up. "Uh...thanks. Both of you. Sorry for being any trouble." He collected his jars and hurriedly ran out the store. He was pretty fast. As soon as he found a place to sit down, outside to almost run-down Church of Anitia, and began to guzzle down his water. He examined the town more carefully now. It had more houses than he thought, but was still in pretty bad shape. There wasn't anything that looked like an Inn but he did see a place that seemed to be a tavern of shorts. There was no horses or corals in sight, not that the land looked fertile enough to grow anything more than potatoes and beats. He had seen a few chickens running around though. Finishing half his jars, he started to make his way towards the blacksmith. He was almost three days late now...

Inaoro Shadows slipped out of the store and stayed twelve paces behind Dazen, enough for Dazen not to notice his presence, but not too much as to where he would loose him. His eyes strayed around to look at everybody around Dazen, trying to analyze the possible threats to his safety, all the while keeping one eye trained on Dazen too. He groaned slightly as his charge made his way to the blacksmiths. At least he would be in one place for now....less chance of loosing him this way.

Sufferance Tural watched the two males leaves and let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "Well, that seemed a bit close, didn't it?" she muttered to herself, putting the money in it's place and wiping the counter, shaking her head a bit. "They still get to me, I guess..." She sighed softly and looked over at the woman again. Okay, best check on her...She walked over carefully, mindful of the two wild animals. "Hello, Miss. Need any help shopping today?" she questioned, back into her helpful, perky voice. Oh, how that voice grated on even her own ears...

Dazen Phyrex arrived quicker than he expected. It wasn't that far away from the town, maybe a ten minute walk from the closest house at best. But his feet still hurt, even after their rest. He suddenly realized that...he had no idea to smith. At all. He gulped as he walked into the store, surprised to see the house had no back wall. Wait. If it did, it would've made it even hotter in here. Suddenly, someone turned him around, as soon as he had closed the door, and started yelling at him. For being late. For being very late. He winced and asked what he needed to door. The smith master, much to the amusement of his other apprentices, threw a bucket at his head, which he barely managed to catch. "Go get water from the river...Go!" He yelled again, even as Dazen was full out sprinting for the river.

Inaoro Shadows almost growled as the blacksmith threw a bucket at his charges head before running to Dazen's side. He wondered how he should help him this time. He rubbed his eyes sleepily for just a moment before placing his gaze back to Dazen. "Blue...you must hate me don't you?" he said to nobody in-particular. He cupped some water in his hands and splashed it over his face to cool himself down from the almost scorching heat. But it was also probably not such a good decision to wear all black either.

Dazen Phyrex was busy scooping up the buckets of water, two now. Some stranger had appeared and thrown a second bucket at him as well before crouching down to cool off. He couldn't help but sniffle a little, not expected such rough treatment right off the bat. He began to draw in some red, which fed his anger but then he had to stop. He couldn't afford to expose himself to anyone...Then something dawned on the young man as he looked at the other boy. "Hey...you were at the store...you paid for me water, right?" He was suddenly wary that he was being followed...

How had he survived this long? he wondered while standing at full height. He glared at the still taller boy before making his way back to the smiths shop. "He's counting on you for that water you know." he asked trying to get back to the smiths shop to hide once more.

Dazen Phyrex sighed and actually shied away from the intense glare...What had he done to deserve that? Probably everything...He watched him go for a moment, wondering why he put up with everyone's shit. Sighing, Dazen hefted the water, glad they weren't too heavy, and made his way back to the smith's house, sitting the water where he was, harshly, told to do so. The smith master turned and tossed him a hammer. "Pull the products from the second furnace. New fence post for the Church. Smash them flat, cool them, and stick them back in." The bastard child sighed and began his work...

"I have a cup and a jar of water, will that work?" she questioned, still a bit perky, but kinder sounding now.
