Introduction
Yet that is history. In this time there are no nameless tribes but vast empires covering this world. These kingdoms are called Aur, Adeverat, Noapeta, Duminica, and Umane. War has broken out between Aur and Noapeta. Of why, the commoners do not question, but when history is written it will not be important. What will stand through history is the story that starts in the small town of Riman.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright!! That is the basic backstory for this RP. This RP revolves around characters called rune bearers who bear what look like tattoos on their body. The location of the rune varies from person to person but the shape is unique for that rune (It may be a symbol or whatever; I will leave it up to you.)
TECHNOLOGY
The Tech Level for this RP is in the late middle ages. Swords are still in use mainly and pikes are a standard foot soldierβs armament but cannons have been introduced. However cannons are still bulky and require several men to operate. Yet they are in good use for a long siege and for defense against a siege
RUNES
I mentioned a few of the runes in the first Paragraph but I will list all of them here to select from for your character. As Runes are taken, I will cross them off the list by bolding and italicizing them. I will also include a description of the abilities of the rune, but if you have an idea you want for a rune, PM me. ALSO, not all runes are included in this list for plot reasons. Finally characters are born with the runes and there is only one rune of one kind alive at one time but there may be no bearer of the rune alive at one time. Runes also lay their mark on the person at birth but their powers cannot be accessed before the person is a young adult as otherwise the sheer power of the rune would tear the body apart.
Rune of Soul β Healing and protects against other runes also senses other runes in others.
Sun Rune- Creation and manipulation of Fire
Rune of Tears- Manipulation of Water
Vortex Rune- Manipulation and creation of Wind
Gaia Rune- Manipulation of the Earth
Moon Rune- Creation and manipulation of Ice
Rune of the Forest- Manipulation of plants
Rune of Storms-Creation and manipulation of lightning
Rune of the Body- Grants superhuman strength
Inner Eye Rune- Telepathy, telekinesis, and other psychic abilities
Phantasm Rune- Creates Illusions. The larger and longer the illusion, the more energy used
Rune of Cleansing- Healing rune and removes ailments from the body
Rune of Dawn- Light Magic and minor healing
Rune of Twilight- Darkness Magic.
Rune of Echoes- Can distract opponents briefly (Except no distinction between allies and enemies) Change voice, throw voice
Rune of MasteryβPick up abilities and techniques remarkably quickly and become at master level fast, but no other benefits
Rune of Destruction- Creates explosions. Takes time to set up but is extremely powerful
Rune of Vision- Scrying areas youβve seen, improved vision, Better ranged attacks and dodging ranged attacks. User can see weak points and abnormalities very easily.
Black Hole Rune βCreates a field of high or low gravity that nearby people and objects are sucked into that affects allies and enemies in area. Can manipulate gravity on oneself at will though outside set field. Cannot create 0 gravity anywhere though. (Technically they can but then they would have no oxygen and die. Remember, as gravity decreases so does oxygen supply so lower gravities take much more energy.)
Mind Rune- With cartain verbal "ticks" the bearer can control the mind of other people for an action, such as a command, if the "tick" is used. To establish this rune it takes approximately three months, however. And it is harder to control more people obviously.
KINGDOMS
The Kingdoms have a precarious balance of falling alliances at this time. With the introduction of cannons there have been no large scale invasions since there is nothing to counter the cannons that are in the forts and castles. Star forts are being introduced at this time too making sieges even less possible. However there has been a large military buildup during this time due to the need for the increased manpower needed to take a single fort. All kingdoms also have colonies on a land across the water from their main capitols and kingdoms (Similar to the colonization of America except earlier) These colonies are mostly a patchwork of claims and it is still settling who really owns what. As of right now Aur controls most of the warm south with great farming land but is also inhabited by the most hostile natives. Adeverat controls most of the northeast that is filled with wet forests that are great for shipbuilding and have excellent quality lumber but has poor soil for most crops. Noapetea controls a portion of the southwest that is fairly average country with no real major benefits or downfalls. Duminica controls the largest colony in the west and Midwestern area of the country. It is inhabited by the most friendly natives and has great quantities of gold and has average soil, but this area frequently gets hit with monsoons that wash away crops and force inhabitants to miss their crop. Umaine controls a small patchwork of well developed cities that are located on the eastern coast that are excellent trade spots. However these cities do not take up much land compared to other kingdomsβ colonies and do not provide many resources themselves.
Each Kingdom has their own views on rune bearers but the cities themselves are quite varied in their opinions of them. Some devout followers of one religion revere the rune bearers as descendants of the gods; others view them as harbingers of destruction, and anything in between according to their beliefs and their values.
Characters
I donβt really have any problems here. Just don't make a Mary-Sue. Just follow the fields that are in the character submission section. List your rune under equipment for ease of me finding it. I would prefer that nobody puts that they canβt remember anything for a bio. So if you do I will PM you and please have a good reason for it. If you want any specific thing excluded from your character, just PM me about it.
RULES
1) I am not against romance but keep it PG-17 guys. IF you insist on spelling out all of the details, take it to PMs!
2) Make literate posts. I do not want to see one lined posts in this. You really are giving nobody else anything to work with if you do that!
3) ABSOLUTELY NO GOD MODDING!! This is an absolute MUST!! If you god mod this stops becoming fun. This includes making your character never get hurt. This is War. You will most likely be injured many times.
4) No excessive swearing. I donβt think your character will say βRat Fartsβ When he gets captured, but at the same time I donβt want characters swearing every two words.
5) Make your character grow.
6) I am co-GMing this with Chari. What we say goes.
THANK YOU FOR READING THROUGH THIS AND ENJOY!!!!

"Anyway, I'll tell you about my friends later - you'll like them - , I live somewhere over there, see?" she said, directing a finger vaguely towards one of the many spires
"ah, alright" Kana said softly whilst Marcelyn dragged him off to wherever her friends were.
"Do you live here"? he asked quietly he had no idea who she was or where she came from, and hopefully e could find out before she found something shiny.

With that Karen sighed, startling the "proper" lady that had been walking by her as she hurried off with a glare in Karen's direction. But Karen took no notice. The thought of fairy tales had brought her to Marcelyn. Was she alright? She had abandoned Marcelyn.
Was she still alive?
Karen's heart sank. What if she was wrong? What if they did kill Marcelyn? She would have killed that girl. She was so... protected... innocent. She had no right to die yet. Karen emerged from the castle in thoughts of fairy tales and heroes but by the time she got to the barracks she was feeling the weight of the king's proposal again. She had decided to come to the barracks immediately to check on the other rune bearer. After all, even if she didn't join the army in the long run she should still meet as many like her as possible.
They all carried the same burden. They were literally marked men.
Karen approached and asked for Andaroth from the guard. He stared at her as if she suddenly sprouted wings or rose the dead and insisted she didn't want to see him. Then in no uncertain terms she insisted that she DID want to see him. Reluctantly, the guard entered the barracks.

"I live in this room, waaaaaay up in the sky." she breathed in two rapid breaths, emphasizing the height with her hands - they stretched into the air dramatically, then created two large arcs and fell back to her side. "And there's this really big window too!" she continued, her enthusiasm faltering for a split second before she proceeded with a hint of ruefulness: "I always used to look down at people when my caretakers were away - they don't let me, because they say it's distracting." she explained, pausing to examine the town around her, as if appreciating the opportunity to look at it on level ground. It wasn't quite the same without the bustle of residents, but it was better than watching from the sky. From there, she had grown so accustomed to gazing down that she had nearly memorized the town's layout, and now weaved through the streets as if she belonged amongst it's most seasoned traffickers.
"And there are my books, my bed, my other books, some flowers, my other other books, the door..." she proceeded, pointing a finger to an invisible spot in the air each for object, imagining it being there. "Oh, but... I don't know much about past the door." she noted, interrupting herself.
"I used to think that there were just clouds, but one time, I saw somebody come in - and past him was stone, just like on the walls!" she exclaimed, earnestly expressing the surprise she felt at the time. "And this one time, I crept down at night, and there was this long staircase!" she whispered loudly, "And past that, another room! And a hallway! And another room! But then someone heard me shouting and I had to go back." she finished, sighing with disappointment as she walked - closer and closer to the very home she described.
It was not that she didn't intend on finding her friends - more so that she didn't know where to look, at least not in the mid of night. She was only vaguely aware of her destination anyways, and even now she only walked forward, subconsciously taking the turns and paths she memorized during her many nights spent peering wistfully through the glass of her room. I would not be long before they reached the premises itself, in fact.

And that scared Karen to death.
She wasn't really sure why, mabye it was the day catching up with her. But this deadly grace that this woman possessed was so effortless that it was frightening. It was so much unlike herself that she began to feel inferior to this woman, and as such reached into her bocket, clasping her charm she got earlier. Then Karen spoke to her, trying to keep her voice level and even with the inner turmoil she had,
"I... I am not here to sign my life away. Not yet... I... Was sent here to meet someone."

While Andrioth sharpened his weapons, he had concentrated on his thoughts, of payment after the war, wondering what he would do afterwards. He grew a grin on his face thinking of the other warriors of Aur, remembering striking fear into their hearts with the disturbing deeds he would commit to one person after another. As Andrioth pondered his thoughts and memories he could hear the sound of armor clanking nearer and nearer until finally it had stopped behind him.
Andrioth stopped sharpening his sword and prolonged the silence for about five seconds before saying βWhat do you need?β he said darkly only tilting his head slightly toward the guards direction. The guard could feel his sense of fear grow inside him, just by looking at Andrioth, even though he never knew this man. The silence stood for a second before the guard said βSomeone here wants to see you.β The guard said nervously while staring at Andriothβs back.
A silence filled the air again for a few seconds before, Andrioth placed the sharpening stone in a pouch at his side, along with the two dagger like swords into their sheathes at his side. βI will be there shortly.β Andrioth told the guard before standing up. The guard simply replied back βYes milord.β before walking off, back to the entrance of the barracks. Andrioth began to rummage through another pouch at his side taking out a few seeds seeming to count them. βHmmmmm I think I should plant more for later useβ He told himself putting the seeds back into the side of his pouch he took them from.
βNow....time to see who came to see meβ he told himself as he began to walk toward the entrance of the barracks, seeming to look around the place for anyone else. The barracks seemed to be empty and a bit eerie at the moments seeing most of the soldiers and guards were out doing who knows what. Andrioth finally arrived at the entrance of the barracks and stepped through the passageway arriving in the area where the guard and the person named Karen stood.
He began to inspect the girl in front of him, trying to figure out why this person needed to see him. He leaned against a nearby wall and crossed his arms, inspecting the female figure more, before saying βGreetings, I am sure you know who I am, but let me formally introduce myself. I am Andrioth Surku, Demon of the Roots.β He said in a polite manner bowing slightly before looking back up at Karen.β I have been given that title in Aur if you are wondering.. So now who are you?β he asked Karen, leaning back against the wall crossing his arms again letting his eyes look directly into Karenβs, waiting for a reply.

Her eyes narrowed when he introduced himself. Demon of Roots? Where have I heard that before⦠There were two sets of rumors in she had heard in Umaine of men selling their souls for runes. One had been thrown out of Umaine and its army; the other was infamous in other countries but such gruesome tales spread. She dropped her shoulder, sending her saddlebags sliding down to her left hand, and her right hand twitched for her sword hilt, but then she realized he had just come from inside the barracks. She fisted her hand instead and forced it to relax. How desperate is this country that they would make pacts with such people she thought grimly.

Kana chuckled as Marcelyn began describing almost every inch of her room to him.
"Wait you live in the sky? As in a tower?" Kana asked quietly.
He looked around the street was full of Shops and Taverns, with red Lanterns hanging off the different signs and doors. Kana eventually fell in love with the warm atmosphere of the place.
As Marcelyn led him through the City, taking turns here and there he saw a familiar tavern, the Roaring Ram, Kana stopped walking.
"We've gone in a circle." he said sighing. "Are you sure you know were we are going?
Kana Blushed as he realized it was the back of the tavern, "Oh, there's two entries." he said going red in the face.
Setting

"Two entries...?" asked Marcelyn - she turned briefly to the tavern. "Oh, yes, there are." she answered right away, only somewhat interested. Despite that, however, she took a note of the tavern's name before continuing her brisk step inwards Felber. The taverns became lacking as they walked ever closer, with the few exceptions being notably lavish, and the domestic structures bore hints of expressed wealth, accenting their owners' greed and desire for status.
"Well, of course a building has two doorways." she noted, pointing a finger into the air for attention. "Just in case, if, like, the hero needs to make a daring escape, or if the villain needs to make a dramatic entrance! Oh, or if, like, maybe the hero needs t- Oh."
She stopped walking, taking a moment to blink in confusion before craning her neck upwards - the walls of the surrounding buildings rose high into the sky, pointing at the clouds with great spires and baring lavish windows to the street. One such building stood out ever so slightly from the rest, and it was this building Marcelyn had stopped for.
It was not particularly great, at least not compared to it's companions. It's size was only slightly larger than they, and only slightly wider than the neighboring behemoths. The stonework was much the same as well, consisting of stone blocks of varying shades layered over one another. A double door stood atop a short but wide staircase of stone, and, only a few feet above it, a gaudy and attention grabbing banner had been plastered across the building's wall; it was deep red in shade, like apples, or like blood. In the very center lay an outline of the sun, halved so that only the top would show. The sun was sky blue in color, and the prongs which could only represent sunlight had been drawn unusually long and sharp.
"Ah! This is it, this is it!" remarked Marcelyn, forcibly tugging Kana along. In a flash, she was at the wooden doors, battering it's surface with an iron knocker - naturally, the knocker had been placed upon a plate also emblazoned with the half sun crest.
After a long slew of knocks, the clacking of a chain rang out from behind the door, followed shortly by the pulling of many latches and locks. When the locks were finally undone, the door inched open, revealing the light of a small candle and a black, cautious eye peering from within. What could be seen of it showed deep irritation, but after eventually settling on Marcelyn, the candle bearer swung open the door to it's fullest.
"Miss Hartbell." spoke the figure, politely surprised. "It's been only two days since your leaving. I'll admit, we did not expect it to be such a short lived venture."
"Hi Mister Julius!" answered Marcelyn in return, smiling brightly - as customary for Marcelyn with recurring meetings, she hugged him briefly.
Julius was a tall man, with a stature that called to mind an aura of command and the countenance of morning mist: cold like ice, but aloof like air. His black, swept back hair revealed the cleanly shaved face of a man in his prime, and his eyes bore the bemused expression of a father with his eight year old as he returned Marcelyn's hug.
"You have done well, then, Marcelyn." he continued after wrenching off Marcelyn's arms. "Then, if you have returned, you must have slain the Aurians?"
"The who?"
"...The soldiers at Riman."
"...Rebahn?"
"..."
"Oh, look, I made a friend!" she shouted suddenly, grabbing Kana by the neck and pulling him forward.
"...Ah...Erm, very well then." said Julius, looking upon Kana curiously. "...Ahem, well a friend of Miss Hartbell is a friend to the Lux Aedes. I will be with the two of you in a moment. Especially you, Miss Hartbell. Look at you, you've got mud all over your nice gown. And where's your jacket? You'll catch a cold out there, you know." he said motherly, gesturing for the two to come inwards. He shut the door once more, taking ample time to reattach the absurd amount of iron bolts and chains.
The inner chamber was large, to say the least. It appeared that quite a lot had been put into making it visually pleasing, and it had obviously been designed to fit a large sum of people. Several thick wooden benches attested to that fact, with each positioned to encircle what appeared to be a fairly large altar, directly at the center of the room. The shrine, a simple construct of thick slabs of stone, appeared to be surrounded by several halberds, each one bearing a large and glaringly reflective blade, planted equal distance apart around the altar in intimidating solidarity. The platform itself bore few materials save for an iron bowl filled with burnt herbs, coupled with a particularly large plate of glass. The glass itself was cased within a halo of decorated metal, which too had been emblazoned with the image of the half sun, with handles built into it's sides. At an angle above the altar, a large window had been carved into the ceiling, revealing the now dark sky.
The walls of the room were lined with unlit candles, so that the only light in the room emanated from Julius'. However, minimal as the light may have been, it did reveal three separate archways at the other side of the room. The leftmost revealed a thin set of stairs leading below, whilst the right most seemed to simply lead into a hall. The center, however, had been curtained with a design much like that of the banner outside, obscuring what lay behind it.

Of course this was all from his posture as he was masked but Karen was glad for the mask. She was sure what was hiding behind it was worth hiding. She took a slight breath to get herself to breathe again and looked at him, focusing on the nose of his mask so she didn't have to look him in the eye. Then she opened her mouth. "I am Karen Thestler. I was sent here to meet you... Andiroth? Is that how you wish me to adress you?" With that Karen made the mistake of looking at the black holes in his mask, but quickly looked at the nose again. "I was told that you are in the service of the Noapetan army and... that you bear a rune. You see, I've been offered a position in the army, as I bear the same title of 'rune bearer' as you. I was told to meet you as you were the only runeberer in the army, I would be working with you if I should accept."
Karen almost slapped herself. What was she thinking? She didn't know aything about this other woman and she was obviously a swordswoma not from Noapeta. What if she was somebody from Aur? They would then know that Noapeta only had a single runebearer, that apparently Aur had crossed paths with before, giving him the title of demo of the roots. Karen simply clenched her fist and hoped for the best.

While Andrioth stared at Karen he could see she looked him in the eyes by staring through the black holes of the mask, before lowering her eyes to another part of his mask. He continued to listen to Karen without interruption saying "I was told that you are in the service of the Noapetan army and... that you bear a rune. You see, I've been offered a position in the army, as I bear the same title of 'rune bearer' as you. I was told to meet you as you were the only runeberer in the army, I would be working with you if I should accept." Andrioth stopped tossing the seeds in the air after hearing this seeming to grow a grin under his mask, " I've been hired by the Noapeatan, as in I am in service to them, and I do happen to bear a rune, in fact you are correct I am the only one who bears a rune in this army right now, should you choose to join we will be most likely to be paired up with each other." he said in a calm tone, while clenching his hands with the seeds in it. He begins to analyze Kora at the side seeming to keep his guard up if they should try anything.

βAnd is Noapeta paying you enough to ensure your loyalty?β Kora asked with blunt cynicism as she returned her mind fully to Androith.

But still...
Did it really matter now? If Noapeta was resorting to using these people as soldiers, then what ws their situation? Could they really defend themselves against the best horses in the world? And to ask, beg her. A girl that happened to be carrying a rune and could simply lift a blade to enter into the army? Was their situation really that desperate? As she thought she looked behind this demon into the barracks. Soldiers were slumped along the wall with malformed helmets and broken lances were scattered throuought the weapon rack. She had been wrong. That soldier earlier hadn't been trying to be a snob, he just didn't want to believe it. There was no way Noapeta could win this war.
Unless she helped. Her rune could make a difference in this war. And if she wanted to protect anything, she had to fight.
Karen looked back at this demon. "Well", she thought "Guess I'd better get used to looking at this mask" she spoke up to the two people there "Well thank you for coming out Andiroth. I think I've reached my decision, but I'll sleep on it. Goodbye."
With that she turned and headed off back toward Hank's shop.

"Let me talk to my brother" She said as the odd pair approached and towered over her "Come on. I was on my way there now." With that she turned, half losing herself in her thoughts about becoming a soldier. Would it be worth it? Of course. She could help SAVE Noapeta. And that, even more than Felber, was her home. Sure, it was a banner to follow behind, but what it represented meant more to her than her own life.
Snapping out of her daze she realized she had taken a wrong turn along the way. As this was not a very familiar section of street. So she decided to start talking to Jon to at least give the appearance she knew where the hell she was going. "So." She started hesitantly "How did you two meet? Oh! And what's your name?" She asked to the towering man.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soon after Karen left a group of guards came from the direction of the castle. They were finey dressed in more ceremonious garb than practical. Their shiney brestplates were engraved with the crest of Noapeta and were half covered with black cloaks with gold embroirdered into them once again in the crest of Noapeta. At a slow march they approached the odd pairing and adressed Kora. "My apologies" Began the head of the guards, completely ingnoring Andiroth. There had been a misunderstanding. I understand that you were instructed to come here, while we were informed to meet you at the west gate. I am capitan Marchelo, Miss Vanth. Please, do come this way."
