Namari Shioh

A Practitioner of Bastardry

0 · 1,889 views · located in The Horat-verse

a character in “The Great Guild Fortune”, as played by AtlasAtrium

Description

“You desire the prestige of a hero, with the conduct of a charlatan? Your greed truly knows no bounds.”

Image

Name: Namari Shioh
Sex: Female
Age: 27
Race: Human

Physical Description: Namari is a deceptively strong woman, her toned physique commonly obscured by regal dress. Her features are described as conventionally pretty, if otherwise a tad unremarkable -- more noted are the ugly, scrunched up faces she oft makes when annoyed, angered, or looking down on others.
Clothing: Namari regularly wears a kimono with hakama, adorned with flowery lace and colors associated with her family heraldry, red and green.
Height: 5'5
Weight: 125 lbs
Skin Colour: Light
Hair Colour: Black
Eye Colour: Dark Brown

Occupation: Sword Sage / Noble
History/Bio: Namari was born blind. An heir to the lineage of Shioh sword masters, nipped at the bud before she even had the chance to prove herself. She was simultaneously loved, and cursed, by her family as they tried for another child to make up for their failure.

But to their surprise, she began to show signs of awareness of her surroundings at age three. An uncanny awareness, even. They found that she was able to sense the space around her body using chi, an ability attributed largely to a type of Sayein-Sae warrior known as a ‘sword sage’.

They put their faith in her blessing, and were rewarded as she grew to surpass their expectations by leaps and bounds. Her swordsmanship was exquisite, but not without flaw. She sought the greatest title of all, that of the Sword Saint, and foolishly challenged them to a duel. Namari was defeated with spectacular ease in front of a live audience and her own family, and the humiliation has not left her conscience since that day.

She was denied a rematch, told that her privilege of challenging the Sword Saint again was revoked until she could prove herself with a worthy feat. And so, she continues to train, in search of a way to restore her lost honor.
Home Town: Sayein-Shu
Home Country: Byeonsu

Personality: Namari is a wilted flower, each thorn of her twisted personality shaped by projections of her various insecurities. Her grace is shallow, and she knows only to sting others in order to keep others from peeking behind her veil. By arrogantly judging others, she assures her own superiority. But, underneath it all…
Fears and Desires: As a woman with many responsibilities, she too carries the burden of many fears. Bringing dishonor to the family name, staining her reputation as a respected sword sage, and losing the favor of her loved ones. But, perhaps most of all, she fears what would be left of her should life’s blessings be stripped away from her.

Equipment and Weapons: Namari wields the Waishi, a blade which supposedly houses the spirit of an ancient dragon. While she has never seen it herself, her advanced chi sensory abilities certainly detect something.
Styles and Abilities: Namari practices the Han-Ken school of martial arts -- the ‘Half-Drawn Blade’. She fights almost explicitly with her sheath, hilt, and the blunt end of her sword to perform mostly non-lethal takedowns. Although it is a difficult art to master, most people are unused to engaging against such an unorthodox stance and are usually caught off guard by its movements. A style most appropriate for a woman who deems most foes unworthy of her blade.
Chi and Augmentations: Namari is able to use her chi to activate her ‘eye of the sword sage’, which allows her to block out all distractions and read the flow of space around her. She claims that it is impossible to sneak attack her.

So begins...

Suiken struggled to stand up at first his hand gripping his neck where the Tengu had clawed at him. "Definitely...gonna need some bandages for that," Suiken grumbled. He quickly went into a stance and launched his palm forward, striking the Tengu in the side in the hopes of him freeing his two captives.

The sniper cried out, his hand pulling back at the impact. The arrow fired, flying passed Xanth's head. The sniper went still, as suddenly Xanth was before him. And before he knew it, he was shot. Not by arrow, but by dagger. The archer looked down, placing his good hand on his gut before falling forward onto his longbow...

Suiken struck his foe head-on. The massive Tengu was pushed off balance, dropping Yuwen and Shuin both, before collapsing sideways and landing atop Namari- crushing her beneath his girth. Yuwen landed on his feet, catching Shuin in his arms a moment later. The two men looked at each other and after an awkward moment Yuwen dropped Shuin to the earth.

The katana wielding Tengu was knocked back by Lo-Muna. He smashed into the ground, a trail of dust behind him. "Okay!" The skinny Tengu said, launched forward, his wings spread like a predator eagle diving. He brought his sword down upon Lo-Muna, threatening to cleave her in two. She blocked, but not before he sent a kick to her stomach. "Whats wrong, can't ya' fight?!" The tengu laughed, sending another slash with his blade...

"This bastard can sure take a hit, huh?" Suiken commented, furrowing his brow. His chi began together around the palm of his hand. "Shuin! Yuwen! ..." The oni paused briefly, wondering why the two of them seemed to have similar sounding names and dispositions in life. That of a goofus. "Let's launch a three-pronged assault."

For some reason Yuwen hallucinated Namari being crushed by the tengu despite the fall actually being very slow, which she easily side-stepped. Or at least, that's what would've happened if Suiken hadn't accidentally stepped on the chain. What instead happened, was that she was suddenly nailed to the floor by the snow oni's foot, and she face planted into the rock floor. Admittedly, her thoughts were wandering a tee during the battle she was observing-- oh SHIT!

A great shadow fell upon her and Namari swiftly kicked the snagged chain out from under Suiken's heel, rolling over just in time to catch a cloud of dust that billowed out from the tengu's collapsing body. She let out a few hoarse coughs through her sleeve, making an uncharacteristically slow rise to her feet.

Certainly, she had no reason to fight when she was dragged here against her will... She scowled to nobody and dusted her off for the third time.

Yuwen nodded at Suiken, raising his single remaining ebony blade and shifting into a one-handed stance. The now injured Tengu rose. He staggered onto his feet and came face to face to Namari. He gritted his teeth at her, his eyes consumed by blind rage.

"Wow, you guys really don't hesitate, huh?" Samyan noted as conflict broke out around her, tilting and turning this way and that as arrows and bodies whizzed past her.

"What's wrong, can't ya fight?!" Samyan turned her head to see one of the tengu giving the bunny girl some trouble, apparently not realizing there was someone else within arm's reach. This oversight was promptly corrected as Samyan's fist shot into the side of his ribs like a steel hammer striking a gong.

"It's rude to taunt women," she chastised, ducking her head back and spinning around as the tengu slashed at her in reprisal, screaming in rage. Samyan's elbow crashed straight into his jaw, knocking him to the ground and away from the beastwoman. "You also interrupted our introduction scene, which is likewise impolite. I'm Samyan, by the way."

Namari tilted her head up as the beast of a tengu towered over her.

"Don't look down at me, you disgusting swine. You should be..." The little noble lady delivered a sudden and surprisingly thunderous kick to his kneecap, instantly dropping him to one leg. Her head weaved back from an attempt to swipe at her and she responded by jamming her sword sheath-first into his maw, smashing through all his teeth and ramming it straight into his windpipe. "... on your knees!" Taking a brief stance, Namari let out a single sharp exhale and smashed her elbow into the hilt of the weapon, driving it down with a burst force that left only the handguard visible below the handle.

The Snow Oni's eyes widened at Namari's sudden assault of the Tengu. She hadn't dare enter the fight before, but after being tossed about to and fro (and nearly interrupting his concentration) her rage boiled over and the results were...quite brutal. Too much so for Suiken's taste. His next technique would be as much to end the brutality upon this massive fool's life as much as take him out of the picture. His chi gathered into the center of his palm, Suiken shot forth a great ball of wind. Hot and high temperature, unlike the frigid climates back in his homeland, the high heat force of air struck the Tengu directly into his side. "Song of Summer: Natsuta!"

The large tengu grabbed at his throat at Namari's attack. He looked at Namari, green-eyes staring out at the woman. Tears began to drip from his cheeks. Black droplets hit the floor. He wept tears of blood. Half-dead he rose hand to Namari's face but before he could reach he was hit from the side, burning air and fire smashing into his form. The tengu fell onto his back, blinded.

Yuwen Fortune sauntered forward, blade drawn, and in one, precise move, he struck. Yuwen's ebony sword impaled beside Namari's blade into the tengu's throat, finally putting the tengu out of his misery. He grabbed Namari's sword hilt and with a final, upward push he ripped the blades out. Yuwen turned to Namari. From the collection of bloody blades in his arms he offered hers.

Across the tunnel Samyan suddenly felt hands grip her neck. The katana wielding tengu spun her round before socking her in the face. "You dumb broad!" The tengu said, his wings flapping as he rose in the air. "You think a couple girls can defeat me?!" He smiled as he looked down at them. "You don't know nothing yet." The tengu dove at terrible speed at the downed Samyan, and with a grunt he managed to send his blade forward and penetrate the cloth of her robes...

Samyan stared reflectively up at the stone ceiling, feeling something hot and wet dribbling down her cheek near her eye. When was the last time someone had knocked her down like that? Oddly nostalgic. She clicked her tongue, then got to her feet, running the rabbit woman's blood off her face.

Samyan walked casually over to where the pair had fallen, fixing the hem of her kimono where it had started to slip down her shoulder before leaning down to pick up the tengu's katana, paying no mind to where her foot had come to rest at the end of a man's family line. Bloody spittle bubbled up on the tengu's lips as he made a noise like a tea kettle. Samyan weighed the blade in her hands, then threw it aside and offered to help the beast woman to her feet.

The swordsman tengu fell to the ground, disarmed, and tightly grabbing his crotch. He looked up at the two warriors, seemingly defeated.

The archer tengu gritted his teeth as Xanth and her hound approached. Before the small human could finish him off the beast-man who'd shot him from afar ran forward. The straw-caped tengu glanced up as Takai and Xanth grew closer, until the two were standing over him. The tengu was sweating, crimson red-skin coated in sweat and pokey black stubble. "Who... taught me...?" The tengu beckoned with his fingers for Takai to come closer. Sparing a glance to Xanth Takai did as he was told, going to a knee beside the injured tengu. The archer leaned forward, his lips moving to the beast-man's monkey ear. "I was taught... by my master."

The tunnel shook. Xanth and Takai would notice how far forward they had strayed from the group, having entered a vast chamber- the walls covered in honey stone matching the statue and the tower. The walls shook again as the tengu archer smiled. "He's here... right now." Suddenly the stones lit up, magic within illuminating the chamber in blinding light. Stalactites plummeted, honing in on them like a bird chasing a rabbit.

The tengu at Lo-Muna and Samyan's feet began to laugh as the tunnel shook, the stones in the walls glowing brightly. In the light they for the first time they could see how strange and hideous the tengu's face truly was. "Your friends are done for now. My master doesn't lose... and neither do I!" With an angry snarl the tengu leapt up at Samyan, clawing and showering her with punches.

Namari paused, her fingers hovering briefly over the weapon before she reached down and relieved Yuwen of her bloody blade.

Does he even remember me?

She turned and shoved her sword into Shuin's hands with a stiff arm. "Clean this, dog."

"Gross! Why!?"

"Because I'm wearing an expensive kimono, and you're wearing a potato sack," she explained matter-of-factly. "Maybe that line of reasoning is a little too advanced for you."

Probably not.

Her senses abruptly flared as she detected alarming movement down the passageway. She retracted her sword back out of Shuin's hands, leaving faint blood smears on his fingertips.

"Hold that thought, actually. Something's happening."

"Oi." Samyan stepped back and around as the tengu lunged at her, swinging wildly. His attacks were manic and unfocused, the act of someone too blinded with pain and rage. His fists lashed out over and over, meeting only with empty air and Samyan's pitying disinterest in this fight.

With a final howling scream, the man's wings beat furiously against the floor, throwing up dust as he launched himself at Samyan one last time, grasping for her throat. She stepped casually to the side, left hand going to the back of his neck while her right gripped the base of his wing. She pushed him forward, using the momentum of his own dive, and in the same motion wrenched back on his wing, splattering the floor and wall with bloodied feathers as it tore free from his back. The tengu fell to the floor in shock, mouth agape with no noise escaping. Samyan sighed and placed her foot against his shoulder, rending the tengu's wing off the rest of the way.

"I'd heard it said even tengu know when they're beaten," she remarked, dropping the severed wing to the floor. "What does that make you, then?"

With an annoyed huff, Ginchiyo surveyed the scene before her, it would have been easy enough to channel her chi and simply walk into the volley of arrows, but doing so would leave her between Yuwen and the tengu, which was not an enviable position. Grumbling to herself, she made idle notes of the battle slowly playing out before her. The sniper in the distance was aiming reasonably well, either he was decent with a bow and aiming to kill, or he was amazing with a bow and faking his kill shots.

Certainly, it felt like Yuwen and company were doing their best to put down the Tengu, but perhaps these were simply pawns meant to be disposed of to gain her trust. Regardless, eight on three seemed a little cruel, and as such she simply walked past most of the fighting. It got hard to move in certain parts, but being born double-jointed had its perks and before long Ginchiyo found herself watching the Tengu sniper begin to bleed out. The Red Monkey was lamenting his death, something about not wasting a skill, whatever that meant. The sniper had been about to die a dog's death, who knew the dog's skills were so prized?

Taking a moment to scrutinize the Monkey, she realized that he was genuinely distraught that the wisp had almost killed him. Perhaps their allegiance was more tenuous than she had thought. Her thoughts turned to what lie ahead, what had those three been stalling for? "Wonder if the Rabbit can hear that far..."

She wondered if it was worth going ahead of Fortune, perhaps disrupting his nefarious deeds, but decided it really wasn't worth her time. The favor had been returned as far as Ro was concerned, but she was curious to see where this whole thing was going. Scratching the back of her head she decided it was worth her time to stay just a bit longer; her thought was interrupted by the tunnel lighting up and beginning to shake, bits of rock falling on her person as she made her way to the end of the tunnel that abruptly changed material as it became a cavern. The Tengu prisoner said something about a master's presence, and it was true that she could sense someone else in the chamber, but they were expertly concealed.

Steeling herself, the warrior waited for the inevitable battle with the Tengu Boss.

As battle erupted into the small, confined cavern, Ren had quickly unsheathed his traditional Yeuxkyenan blade and took up a defensive stance. As arrows were propelled around the tiny battlefield, the other warriors had sprung into action, quickly striking back at the ambushing Tengu bandits. Ren felt a sense of relief as his comrades of convenience took control of the situation, though a little disappointed that it seemed to end so quickly.

His disappointment was short lived as the room began to shake and light began to emanate from further down the tunnel. Rock began to fall from the ceiling of the tunnel, with little shards bouncing harmlessly off of Ren's armor. The raven haired woman he'd spoken to before made her way to the source of the light, and Ren decided to follow shortly behind. Something was said about a 'master', and this seemed to probably be them.

The Yeuxkyenan sellsword stopped when he finally took in the sight of a tall, pale blue skinned woman ripping off the wings of one of their enemies. Ren cocked his head to the side, taking in both what she did and said.

"Just kill him." He spoke evenly, but in a tone that almost sounded chastising. "It's already over for him, so just finish him off and cut it out with this torture." His eyes met intentionally with the Rabbit Beastwoman's, as if to subtly indicate his disapproval of the treatment of the Tengu, and to ask her to assist in putting an end to it.

Samyan's eyes flicked toward the armored human, then back down at the tengu, her brow furrowed. "He's still alive, isn't he?" She lifted her foot gingerly off the tengu's back, careful not to set it down in the blood spatter. The pebbles falling from the shaking ceiling felt a bit like raindrops where they struck her kimono. Samyan shook her head to loose a few rocks that had gotten caught in her hair, sending them skittering across the ground.

Samyan stretched a bit, then spun around on the ball of her foot to face the warrior fully, a cheerful smile spread over her face. "If he's still alive, he can learn from this and get a new start. A victory all around! Let's go fight the boss now." She then jogged briskly past him, not waiting for any response.

The tall human woman with the dark tangled hair had beaten her to the entrance of the cavern. "Fellow party member!" she greeted, sounding perhaps slightly desperate in some regard. Samyan's eyes caught a number of stalactites break off the ceiling as she approached, quickly picking up speed as they curved in midair to veer toward the dog rider and monkey archer who were already inside. Without breaking stride, Samyan grabbed the human woman by her belt and flung her with terrifying force through the air. "Nice to meet you!" She called after her, watching the raven-haired woman's flight intercept one of the stalactites before it could skewer the mute.

"So their leader's down the tunnel..." Suiken frowned. "Time to see what these bandits are truly after, then." The Oni then rushed towards towards the same direction Xanthe and Takai found themselves in, towards the glowing stones, extending his palm and smashing the stalactites descending upon the two into rubble on his way there.

Lo-Muna met Ren's eyes but she gave her own look back, one that said, You want me to stop her?? The one who literally just ripped a Tengu's wing off???? The incredulous look on her face became blank as Samyan retorted to the man clad in black before cheerfully running off. Lo-Muna sighed as the Tengu continue to scream his head off, sniveling as he felt intense pain from the huge, gaping wound the missing wing had left.

"She's not wrong," was all Lo-Muna said as she kneeled down besides the Tengu. She was about to look into her bag when the cavern shook, the rabbit beastwoman looking and hearing ahead to where stalactites were honing in on Xanth and Takai. Lo-Muna gripped the chakram tightly and saw Suiken going after some of the stalactites falling on Takai. Using her pumped up arm, she threw the chakram towards another stalactite Suiken had missed. It shattered but the chakram kept going, Lo-Muna hearing it hit a wall further into the chamber before clattering onto the floor.

"Not if he dies from shock though," Lo-Muna sighed as she pulled out a small bottle and shoved the last of the powered contents into the Tengu's mouth. After a few moments, the Tengu stopped screaming, quickly slipping into sleep. Lo-Muna pulled out another small bottle and poured some of the salve onto the gaping wound. A foul smell came from the wound as the salve bubbled.

Looking up at Ren, Lo-Muna said, "My own personal brew. We can deal with him later if he's still breathing."
