Jake hovered just above the water. The new sensation of being away from the ocean was weird...so he soon dived back in again. Suddenly he stuck his head up out of the water again and spotted Olivia. He had never met or even seen an otter before! He wanted to investigate. He cut through the waters and stopped at the edge of the beach, and looked at Olivia. He studied her, from head to toe..wanting to discover if she would notice him. He moved away from the see and onto the light, sandy beach. Even if nobody could see, or feel him...he could still see them and feel his surroundings. The sand was nice and smooth. He glanced at it's beauty, then turned his look back to Olivia.

"Shoot!"

Olivia barked, staring down at the two empty sides of the clam shell the sea otter had just managed to break in half. With a rumbling stomach, the otter growled as she looked around at the split clams around her. Only three out of the ten clams she had managed to salvage from the sea bed had been filled with the salty flesh of the crustatian, and even they had been pretty weak.

"I'm so hungry... If I weren't so hungry I'd have the energy to catch fish..." With a sigh, the sea otter lifted herself off her empty belly and started the long trawl from the beach grass, across the sand and towards the soft, lapping waves.

Jake was kind...and he didn't like to see animals starve. He may be able to help Olivia..but that wasn't at all likely. He hovered just above the smooth, white, sand and hovered across the beach. He was certainly no expert on otters..he didn't know a single thing about them! I mean...what do they even eat? Jake glanced upwards at the verdant trees, covered in bushy, green leaves. "Maybe otters eat leaves!" he thought to himself. Now...getting those leaves would be tough. In fact, it would be practically impossible for a fish to pick leaves off a tree. It just isn't natural!

Jake was stuck. He wanted to help but he couldn't. He wanted to pick leaves for Olivia but again that was impossible. "Life and death suck!" was all Jake could think to himself. He knew he was overdoing it but still...he wanted to be alive again..and see his family, friends, and dear little Angela!

"Yessah, a ghost fish. Watch your tail, sah." the dillusional small fish said to Okari, before swimming off to warn everyone else he could. Okari glanced at the trail of bubbles that the supersticious fish had left behind, wondering what exactly it was talking about. Ghost fish. Well, since he can't see ghosts, and ghosts can't do that much to him, why should he care? Unless he hadn't been keeping up on his folk lore, and ghosts were really demons that posses souls...nah, he was just scaring himself.

The otter returned to his buisness, which was spying for any humans that might be near by. Those blasted humans ruined everything, his recreational time included. When he affirmed that the coast was in fact clear, Okari swam the remaining stretch of shallow water until he reached the beachfront. From there, he trotted along the cool sand, coming to a rocky outcrop that was extended above the water. "Perfect." Okari said simply and with a grin. Laborously climbing atop the rocks, Okari found a thick patch of mud that had been left from a recent rain, which he planned to slide on, off the ledge, and into the water. It was a great idea, and had worked, though he landed akwardly in the water, giving him a tail that would be sore in the morning. Ah well, it was a fun plummet. Life has no rewards if we don't take risks!

Nuff splashed around in a small puddle, ignoring her loudly grumbling stomach. What use was looking for food if she never even learned how to? She should just enjoy life before it ended for her. Eyes bright, she rolled around, oblivious to her surroundings. "Hmmhuhm..." she hummed, squeaking in surprise as a leaf fell from above, landing on her head. "What in the blue world?"

Jake felt as if we were to shiver...though it was impossible for a ghost to feel the cold. However he did like the ocean more than out here on the beach. He gave up finding the food and went back to the waters edge. Looking across, he noticed another otter, enjoying themselves in the water. He smiled at their happiness and sighed. He wondered if all the world could be as happy, and alive! Jake looked over only to see another otter, also with a smile on their face. Then he wondered to himself if anybody actually DID know he was there...and if they were scared or not. He certainly didn't hope so.

Okari had repeated the process another time or so, before giving up. Having eatin before the experience, he was in no way shape or form hungry, and since those blasted humans were the only creatures who hunted out enjoyment, he didn't hunt on a full stomach. Instead, he rolled over onto his back, letting the current take him where it would. The white pieces of cotton in the sky accented against the blue backround was a nice view, and he enjoyed watching the occasional seabird fly over head. The beach nearby was not regularly visited by humans, so he was suprised when he had heard a voice. Cocking his head towards the direction of the sound, his eyes eventually set on a young otter on the beach. She seemed ever so slightly intrigued by something. Curious, he flipped back on his stomach to swim, and made his way back to the beach. Watching her from the shallows, he felt a strange chill come over him, even though the water and the surrounding air was quite warm. The chill caught him off guard for a moment, and he had forgotten what he was going to call out to the otter on the beach, so he was left staring blankly at her.

Nuff stopped splashing around and looked up, resting her eyes on another otter. Older. Squeaking in surprise she slipped, landing in the puddle on her stomach. "Eh!" she said, running and ducking under a bush. The sight had startled her. Poking her head out slowly, she stared at the other. "What do ya want?" she asked.

"Hm? Whadda I want? I want a peaceful world without humans, but that is besides the point. I heard a cry of suprise, and came to see what the matter was. Can't saw I expected an otter." Okari responded bluntly, before taking a quick glance around to see if he saw the source of the supposed danger. Seeing none, he suspected that this otter was afraid of her own shadow.

Nuff sniffled, crawling out from under the bush. "Neh...you wouldn't happen to have any food?" she asked, her stomach growling loudly. Tail tucked between her legs she approached the other slowly, eyes bright with curiosity. "Do ya?"

Food? She was asking him for food? How unusual in the wild. But she was small, and young, and alone as well. "Where is your family, miss? I'm sure they would be happy to hunt with you, and I'm sure they'd rather them hunt with you than a total stranger like myself." Okari suggested, remaining in his position as the young otter slowly made her way towards him across the sand. The strange chill from earlied had departed, must have all been in his head...

Okari instantly felt a twinge of regret for bringing up the matter, though was suprised at how quickly she seemed to turn around. "No, but I suppose I could help you get some if you would like that...know how to shuck a clam?" Okari asked, knowing he would feel guilty if he just left her here.

Nuff blinked. "Clam?" she asked, turning her head to the side. "I..I was never taught how to do that..." she mumbled. "I don't even think I've had a clam..not sure." Eyes bright, she bounded the last steps towards the other otter, her tail twitching.

Although it would have been nice to say 'sorry kid, you'll have to find someone else to find food for you', he didn't. Having both of his parent gone for some time now, he naturally felt a small connection to this otter. "Well, I'm assuming you can swim alright. Clams are delicious little morsels found on the sea floor." Okari responded brightly, starting towards the water.

Nuff bounded forwards, emitting a surprised squeal as she slipped on mud and landed in the shallow water. "Oi...!" she said, standing up and shaking the water from her coat. Feeling her face grow hot under her fur she looked at the other otter. "By the way..my name's Nuff..! Or..something like that."

"Nuff...whaddya mean something like that. Not sure what to call yourself? You can call me Okari" he responded, looking at this otter with more and more interest. He suppressed a laugh but had a small grin on his face as he watched her slip in the mud, before bounding out ahead of her until he was able reach swimable waters.

Nuff squeaked, paddling after Okari. "Well...my mum..called me something else, but..ah..I only remember part of it, Nuff." Beginning to breathe heavily, she caught up with him. "Okari..that's a nice name....interesting, if I could say!" Feeling rather bubbly she splashed. "Hm..haven't swum in a while...been too busy with that puddle and being hungry..heh!"

Nuffy, Anuff, Nuffalooza, Tanuff...Okari was thinking of all the possible fullnames that she could have. How could sue forget her name...that is like an otter forgetting how to swim! "Aye then...I'm sure you can hold you breath Nuff, the best clams take plenty of time to reach, and even more time to uncover. How you dove before, or ya just a surface swimmer?" he instructed, adding the important tidbit at the end.

Re: [OOC] The Haunting Of A Fish

Interesting plot. I'm partial to animal roleplays, and have yet to try one with sea creatures. Otters are awesome, so I was planning on submitting one before I saw that there was one already created, so don't think I'm stalking you Olivia. Yet.
