Heywood Raincaller

Pokemon have much to teach us, if us Humans would quit barking orders and listen to them.

0 · 1,464 views · located in Mossdeep City

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by LawOfTheLand

Description

Heywood is a fairly meek individual that's older than he seems. He was born after the invention of the capsule system known as Poké Balls, but his traditional upbringing from parents that did remember that time led him to respect the ways of those that lived off the land, remembering various tips and tricks about how to get along in the wilderness. As a card-carrying Liberte member, Heywood firmly believes that Pokémon and Humans should be equal in all respects under the law, and anything that gets in the way of that equality should be shunned, whether it's the League's insistence on gadgetry, Chain's preoccupation with slavery, or the Revolution deciding to segregate themselves. That being said, a Poké Ball is mighty handy.

As knowledge of the old ways is one of the few reasons for his continued freedom, he seeks out younger folk to preserve his legacy of living free and wild. Sometimes he has to do some regrettable things to maintain that independence, which draws dark-types to him like a Volcarona to a flame.

"Awesome!" Noelle trotted happily to the net, and started tugging, until she finally hoisted it up onto the dock. Its contents spilled out, in the form of three Krabbys.

"Absol, you know what to do." She glanced down to him, and he opened with Shadow Claw.
The pokemon made a slashing movement with its arm, and a black, smoky claw of shadows was released, which hit the Krabby directly, almost making it faint.
"Night Slash!" Noelle called out, and Absol tensed up, waiting for the Krabby to look away, before dashing to it and attacking, finishing it off.

The other two looked over, and began coming as well.

"Blizzard!" She said this time, and Absol stopped, and the crescent on its head glowed for a second, before a blast of snow and ice came from somewhere out of sight, and surged into the remaining two ones, and one of them became encased in ice (Frozen)

"Now! Bite!" Absol leapt onto the unfrozen Krabby and bit it, making that one faint too. Now, they turned to the last one.

"Finish it off! Night Slash again!" Absol once again waited, then once the krabby looked at Noelle instead of the other pokemon, Absol surged to it, and dealt the final blow.

"Yay!" Noelle walked over to the now fainted Krabbys, scooped them up, and turned to Heywood, happy to get some dinner that isn't instant noodles.

The old native chuckled at the youth's quick and powerful attacks. "Growlithe, why don't you help her out a little bit." After all three Krabby were felled, a simple Ember got the fire started. "Careful, they're still able to get out of the net when they're fainted!" Noelle and Heywood both dragged the net to the camp. One almost got away, but Growlithe was able to subdue it with a Bite attack. "Up and over you go, and before you know it, dinner's ready!"

He used the campfire to light another wad of pipe weed and took a long drag. "So, youngster, what made you come over here to help out an old man? Perhaps you are interested in learning about the old ways?"

Fennekin wandered into a small town, right out side of the forest. It was full of people young and old. They all didn't seem to notice the young fox. This made him a little sad. Fennekin decided that he had to take matters into his own hands. He ran up to a random person, and attacked.

Heywood Raincaller could only be startled as a new Pokemon came out of the forest and made a Beedrill line for his humble abode. "Whoa, boy, whoa! By the spirits...Growlithe, get 'im!" The Puppy Pokémon ran out from the warmth and safety of the Ursaring-hide throw rug to confront the strange fox. It growled menacingly to take the edge off of the foe's attacks. "All right, Growlithe, use Bite!" It followed the old man's commands even without the benefit of a Pokeball...just what was this geezer up to?

Meanwhile a young woman in cargo shorts and a tank top looked up from her portable gaming system, distracted by the commotion. Frowning, semi-famous tech jocket Ilene Evans lowered the game system and watched with a certain level of angst to see what was going on.

Fennekin used flamethrower, setting tuffs of the growlithe's fur on fire. He spoke, but he knew the man only heard. "Fenne- Fennekin!" The young fox used quick attack, moving so fast it looked like he teleported in for a tackle.

The Growlithe barked in dismay as the flames washed over him, but he wasn't very effected even as he tried to sink his fangs into Fennekin's flesh. "Growlithe, get back, he's too..." Heywood was cut off as the quick attack sent his friend sprawling.

"I've had enough of this! Use Roar!" Growlithe let out a loud series of barks, trying to scare the Fennekin back into Ilex Forest.

Fennekin didn't want to hurt the Growlithe to much, he just wanted to prove he wasn't weak. He said to the Growlithe, "I'm so sorry," The fox then unleashed flame wheel on the small puppy.

Growlithe yelped in pain as Fennekin cloaked himself in a ring of fire and smashed into its body. It wasn't very effective, but the Puppy Pokemon was still feeling the heat of a tense battle, something he hadn't been in for a long time. "Growlithe...I know you're in pain, but we can't give up yet," Heywood panted. "Here, eat this!" He tossed out what looked like some kind of herbal remedy from his belt pouch, which Growlithe ate. The taste was awful, but he stood up straighter after that, ready to keep fighting.

"You shall not hurt the people of Azalea, fox spirit!" the old man cried. He glanced over at a young, dark-skinned woman who seemed more interested in her gadgets than the battle before her. Should he fail, she was his only chance of getting away...

"Sorry?" Growlithe snarled at Fennekin in Pokespeak. "I try to end this peacefully, and this is how you repay me?!" Clearly furious by now, Growlithe leaped at the fox in a powerful takedown attack, not caring if it hurt itself on the landing.

As the Growlithe hits the young Fennekin, there is an audible crunch. He is thrown back at least ten feet with a loud yelp. Fennekin know he couldn't make another attack. Unable to get away, Fennekin curls up in the grass. He wraps himself in his tail for protection. "I guess I am to soft to be a trainer's pokemon," he manages to say in pokespeek, preparing for the last and final blow.

Ilene seemed to have gotten up, hands on the hips of her shorts (which were very comfy and easy to wear!). Next to her was now a magneton with its three magnets ominously directed towards the downed fennekin with a certain intent. An experienced trainer might recognize that it was locking onto the small pokemon. The young woman met Heywood's gaze and jerked her head away, signalling for him to run. She seemed to be assuring him that she had his back, or perhaps she simply thought him an old man that couldn't properly defend himself. Either way, she was offering.

Heywood saw the Magneton getting ready to fire and gulped. "G-Growlithe, get back here!" The pair of them ran past Ilene and her partner, the human of the pair offering an appreciative nod as they didn't so much run as jog. Given his apparent age, it was a wonder Heywood didn't need a cane yet.

After getting a safe distance behind the younger duo, they watched with a mix of eagerness and fear to see what the girl would do next.

Fennekin knew it was over. Peeking through his tail, he tries to limp away on his now broken leg. Hearing the voice of a Magneton, confirmed that the battle was over. Fennekin limped as fast as he could toward the forest. On thunder bolt from Magneton would either kill him, or at least make him unconscious.

He looked at his new opponent, and said one word in pokespeak, "Mercy..."

The Magneton quickly floated over, blocking the fennekin's path.

"Nuh-uh." Ilene said out loud, of course not understanding a word of what was being said to her. She too closed the distance, looking at Fennekin with thoughtful eyes. "..." A long moment passed before the young woman produced a single pokeball and casually primed it. She would then proceed to casually toss it forward at the evidently helpless pokemon in an attempt to catch it.

Fennekin was immediately sucked into the small pokeball, having no strength to resist. He struggled weakly, but was unable to escape. The pokeball finally clicked shut.

Ilene bent down to retrieve the ball, nodding with quiet satisfaction in that the global PC and pokeball security she'd installed appeared to be working exactly as intended--Not that she was surprised. She peered into the top of this translucent ball at the miniature form of fennekin within, whom would also be able to see and hear the world around him.

"...Now what's a cutey like you doing attacking old men?" Ilene quietly asks, virtually inaudible to anyone who wasn't within a couple of feet. She seemed to be debating what to do with this new pokemon. She was sure one of the professors would appreciate a pokemon like this.

"I was trying to prove myself that I'm strong enough to be a trainer's pokemon," He said quietly in pokespeak, knowing she couldn't understand. Fennekin could do virtually nothing inside the pokeball. Unable to use his abilities in side he was stuck.

An old man sitting at the coast with a fishing rod in one hand and a net in the other patiently waited for a bite. And his students. While he was waiting, might as well reel in some breakfast. As soon as he felt a bite, a practiced flick of the wrist brought up a Goldeen. "It's a big one! Sic 'em, Growlithe! Use Bite!" The puppy dashed forward and sunk its fangs into the fish, trying to prevent it from using its fearsome horn in combat.

"Good boy! Now bring it over to the stone circle and use Ember!" This would simultaneously finish off the thrashing fish and start the cook fire for breakfast as he got out a knife from his belt. "Great Spirit, thank you for providing me and my friend with the nutrition we need. We shall pick the bones clean and cast them into the sea, that they may reform and begin the cycle again."

After this little prayer and some blood, the Goldeen was cleaned and in the iron cooking pot. "Growlithe, take that out of the fire when it's done. I seem to have misplaced my oven mitt." With that, the elderly man with the leathery skin returned to his fishing. "I wonder if that one girl is going to be on time..." he mused.

Richie spies the old man, he watches him as he and his growlithe work together to catch the fish. He smiles at the cooperation and teamwork, but it is a low smile. Frosslass floats around him and nudges him, "Im going!" He stands and looks around at his surroundings.

Richie smiles at the beautiful scenery. He gets caught up in the Pidove flocking over the academy.

Richie takes a step, but freezes. Am I supposed to be here? Do I realy deserve all of this? Richie shook his head, he was already getting intimidated, he couldn't let anyone in his team down, especially the newest addition of Frosslass. Frosslass was an abandoned pokemon Richie found a while back wandering in the forest. Frosslass had high hopes of being useful, and if Richie quit now it would let her down. Richie put that in mind and approached him, "Excuse me? can you help me?"
